This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of June, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [958], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by her sister, Mrs. [1100].

Born April 8, 1909, [3:22 P.M., see Par. 60-A below.] in Mobile, Alabama. Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:55 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Texas.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [958].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these are chosen from same with the desire and purpose that this be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling it to realize the purposes for which it entered this present plane.

5. For, the entity is one of those from the Atlantean activities; and thus, in a manner, will be one that will either advance through the hardships and disappointments which have arisen, and may arise, or that will allow such to become the stumblingstones for the bringing of disturbances to make the entity dissatisfied; and thus losing the opportunities that are given each soul.

6. For, He has not willed that any soul should perish. Thus it will behoove the entity to rely upon, and to search self deep, and to know that which is the prompting of the entity, - as to whether the purpose and desire finds its inception in self-indulgences or in that which may enable others to take hope and to find that which brings harmony in their experience.

7. In interpreting the records, - we find there are latent and manifested urges arising not only from the material sojourns (which find expression in the emotions of the physical nature) but from the astrological sojourns (which bring latent urges deep in what may be termed the dream state, or the deeper mental self).

8. Thus the injunction again to search deep within self, comparing motives, comparing desires, with that which is the entity’s latent and manifested ideal.

9. Astrologically, as combined with the aspects of the material sojourns, - we find:

10. The entity is one very affable, and yet gradually growing to question, - yet periods when the entity has been so sure of self emotionally.

11. These have been as conflicting experiences in the present.

12. For, being an Atlantean as well as a Uranian, the emotions and Venus have worked influences that are very good and also very bad.

13. The entity is an ideal companion for those who are of the tend or trend for creative activities of a mental and spiritual nature; yet, unless these are kept balanced through the oft analyzing of self, they may become as stalemate to the individuality of the entity, - as from the Atlantean period, in which so much disturbance arose that finds expression a bit here and there through the material experience in the present.

14. Yet, the opportunities are before the entity, - the abilities for its comprehension.

15. The associations and environs tend to make for great changes in the material and mental experience, more than would ordinarily be found, - because of experiences not only in this sojourn but in others.

16. Also in Venus we find the love life or marital life disturbed; also the abilities in the artistic temperament as related to mental as well as material or mechanical conditions and experiences.

17. Thus the entity may oft find itself comparing a companionship, or companionships, to certain days, or certain periods of the day with individual environs that would go to make harmonious beauty in the experiences of those who would find same. This is the manner of thinking of the entity, as it might be termed, owing to such influences.

18. From Mercury we find the high mental abilities, and yet these may at times cause rather harsh judgments.

19. Remember those injunctions given of old, which are not as sayings alone but as truths and proper standards of living: If ye would be forgiven, ye must also forgive; if ye would be lovely, show thyself lovely to others; if ye would have friends, show thyself friendly.

20. Not that the implication is that the entity is inconsistent, but the high mental abilities, the high emotional body, and at times the activities dealing with relationships of individuals to the entity, do not always become helpful forces one for the other.

21. In the Uranian influences we find the extremes, and yet the interest in spiritual and occult forces. These are well if they are analyzed in the light of that held as the ideal, and NOT in the light of desire or of the emotional mental self.

22. For, He is not mocked; and whatsoever any soul shall sow, so will it reap.

23. From the appearances, as they affect the entity in the present, - and the indications as to the abilities of the entity in many fields of service, especially in being of assistance in creating thinking in the minds of associates or companions, - we find that home building SHOULD be the BUSINESS of the entity; as in that disturbances first began!

24. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those early periods of settlings in the land; following the inflow of many from a foreign land.

25. The entity was among those in that land of the nobility, or those who had been in authority. With the changes that came about, the entity, then in the name Marsai (?) Michels, still brought helpful forces into the experience of many, - in the appreciations of liberty without indulgences.

26. These brought hardships during some of the experiences, and even when there was the return of many of the associates, the entity was kept in this land.

27. Thus we find in the present the entity oft fears being left alone, and goes to some effort oft that such may not be the case, - even to associating with those who are not altogether to the liking of the entity. Not that the entity dreads to meet self, but rather the finding of those who think or feel in the same direction or manner is the dread for the entity.

28. In the present we will find that this may be overcome most by looking within.

29. Also the ability as an instructor, as a help to those who desire to be of help in the way of more helpful thinking, arises from the material and mental activities of the entity through that particular sojourn, - as will be seen from abilities in others also.

30. Before that the entity was in the uppermost portion of the Promised Land, when there was the establishing of the Greek church, - following the dispersing of the followers of the Nazarene.

31. The entity was of the Greek faith, and thus worshiped rather more the abilities to bring beautiful activities into the experiences of the individuals, as well as the determined groups.

32. Thus we find from that experience in the present a material-mindedness at times towards activities that become of the physical nature; yet the entity through that sojourn - when coming in contact with the church at Thesalonica - became an ardent supporter of those teachings. However, the disputations which arose caused some concern to the entity in that experience.

33. Thus we find the constant attraction to the entity of those things pertaining to rote and routine as related to the spiritual matters, and yet never quite satisfied with a MANNER in which many such are conducted.

34. Hence the need again for the self-analysis in relationship to the ideals of the entity.

35. The name then was Lydias; and the entity gained throughout; though there were periods of disturbances and discouraging thoughts momentarily, in the main there were developments through that experience, physically, mentally and spiritually.

36. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those experiences of the reconstruction when there had been the return of the Priest’s activities and household.

37. The entity was drawn to those of the Priest’s household, even though it was of the order of the Atlanteans. This made for the entity’s greater advancement, for the entity not only assisted those in the Temple of Sacrifice and in the Temple Beautiful, but helped its own peoples who were a part of that experience, and brought the greater helpful influences throughout the activity and the sojourn.

38. Then the name was Her-Tel-Un.

39. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land during the period of the second breaking up, when the islands - or Poseida - became the main portion of the activities.

40. And those very experiences that brought destructive forces bring about the tendencies in the present for the extremes, and the hardships that have been and will be a part of the experience through this sojourn.

41. Not that these will always be material conditions, for they - too - will pass.

42. In that experience the entity was among the children of the Law of One who accepted and forsook much of those activities because of its close associations and companionships with one of the sons of Belial.

43. This brought consternation to the entity, and also those influences the application or use of which brought destruction to the land. And Poseidia will be among the first portions of Atlantis to rise again. Expect it in sixty-eight and sixty-nine (‘68 and ‘69); not so far away! [See 958-3, Par. R5.]

44. From the activities and experiences of the entity in that sojourn, we find that hardships, pleasures, extremes of most natures, will be a part of the entity’s activity in the present.

45. Those that brought destructive forces were the extravagant use of self, as well as of the abilities and activities, with those of questionable conditions and experiences.

46. The name then was Es-Se-Es.

47. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how:

48. Remember the manner of analyzing self, as has been indicated. Look within. Judge or parallel what ye find with thy spiritual ideal; and not as to what you would desire others to be, but as to what ye would desire to have others be to thee, that be to them.

49. These are the manners that are in keeping with the proper material and mental relationships.

50. The business, as indicated, is in the helpfulness through instructions to many; but the HOME building should be the work, the life experience of the entity. For in this, and through these channels, may the greater harmony come, - as ye meet thyself in this material plane.

51. Study then to show thyself approved unto that thou hast chosen, or may choose, as thy ideal. Know in Whom as well as in what ye believe, as to Who is the author of thy faith, of thy hope, here and hereafter.

52. These be the manners, the ways, the entity may find self.

53. Ready for questions.

54. (Q) What were my former associations with my present sister, [1100], what are the urges in the present and how may I use them for our mutual development? (Q) Much as the association in the Egyptian period, which brought a dependence upon and a counseling with that entity who is the sister in the present; though only close friends. In the present we find the urges for the reliance one upon the other. Do not abuse, but USE these as a helpfulness in the experiences and conditions that arise through this material sojourn.

55. (Q) Should I continue in my present work, as secretary to Psychologist of the Houston Public Schools? (A) Get married!

56. (Q) Would marriage with the young man with whom I am going be advised, or should I wait for another? (A) There should be the answer from within as to the purposes, the desires. If the purposes of each act as a helpfulness one to another, WELL! If they do not, look for another.

57. (Q) What should I do to bring more success and advancement in my work? (A) In that same manner as indicated, that there may be a helpfulness to others, - through the creating or bringing about of a helpfulness in their activities, by the thinking more or better of themselves through their contemplation of creative energies in their experience. Or, a greater improvement in physical as well as mental education.

58. (Q) What were my former associations with my divorced husband, […], and why did things turn out as they did in this life? (A) In that experience when ye were led so far astray in Atlantis, - then could it have been any other way in the present? For, the husband was the one who led the self astray in that experience. Again there were the meetings in the experience just before this, and these were not over helpful then, for they brought many disturbing conditions.

59. (Q) What were the lessons for me to learn from this experience? (A) As just indicated, - that the spiritual things are to have their spiritual values and the material things their material values.

60. (Q) Please give the true local time of my present physical birth? (A) This as we find was on the eighth, but three-twenty-two (3:22) p.m.

R1. 7/16/40 She wrote: “I want to let you know how much I appreciate the Life Reading. Everyone says that it describes me better than I could have done myself. I just hope that through it I may have a better understanding of life. I feel as if I know you. I have heard so much about you and your wonderful work to mankind through [1100] and [470]. I had hoped to be able to come to the convention but was unable to get off at that time. May God bless you in your work.”

R2. 6/43 Sister, Mrs. [1100], reported that [958] had been married about a year to a very nice widower with a young daughter and was very happy; her husband is a druggist.

R3. 8/12/48 “Enclosed find my check for $25 for a year’s membership in the Association. I am a sister of Mrs. [1100] and am coming into the Association through her.”

R4. 8/10/60 GD’s note: Mrs. [1100] told me that THE BIRDSONGS, BOB & PEG, now in Hawaii, had given a “Life Reading” that was very interesting, for Mrs. [958]‘s stepdaughter’s little five year old son, saying that he had incarnated at the time of the Master in Palestine, etc. The name, they said, was John Mark, the same as given in a Life Reading by Edgar Cayce for Case [452].

Did Atlantis exist? For hundreds of years archaeologists and historians have been debating the old legend of a lost city. Recent discoveries of a sunken temple in Bahamian waters have reopened the debate. Was Kentuckian Edgar Cayce right when he said lost Atlantis would re-surface in the 1968-69?

Edgar Cayce predicted it would happen. Is it happening?

Recently, a Miami archaeologist was reported to have said he had discovered in Bahamian waters and ancient “temple” he thought might be part of the legendary lost continent of Atlantis.

In the 1940’s, a man named Edgar Cayce predicted that parts of Atlantis would begin to reappear in 1968-69, that the first appearance would be that of a temple, and it would be found in the waters of the Bahamas.

The archaeologist, Dr. Manson Valentine, told the Florida-Times-Union that he is not sure that the underwater find is an Atlantis temple.

“It could be,” he said, “but the fact that it’s so near the surface would make it too young to be a temple of Atlantis. But if it is not, I think one is out there. Yes, I believe there was an Atlantis. As a scientist, I believe it.”

John Beakley, who has worked with Valentine, said, “I don’t think there is an Atlantis. I have to have more facts. I don’t say it didn’t exist, but I’m not convinced.”

Beakley, who is an oceanographer and head teacher at the Duval County Marine Science Education Center at Mayport, knew Valentine at the University of North Carolina where Valentine taught zoology. He also taught the subject at Yale where he received his Ph.D.

Beakley said he and Valentine explored hundreds of caves in North Carolina, and that he (Beakley) has known Valentine for many years.

“He is one of the most brilliant men I’ve ever met,” Beakley said. “I know he believes in Atlantis, and I understand that this thing on Atlantis is serious enough that a national network is going to work with Valentine on a TV program on Atlantis.”

Valentine does not say Cayce’s prediction is incorrect. He is just not sure this temple is the temple of the prediction.

“The structure is man made,” Valentine said. “It couldn’t be a freak of nature. It is about 110 feet long and 75 feet wide. The top is about two feet above the ocean floor. It is rectangular, with the east end and southwest corner partitioned off. At the east end are three rooms.

“I don’t know if its the foundation of a building. It could be. The age of it is what is puzzling us. I’ve found other temples with this pattern of structure, which has to do with metaphysical rituals. We’ll wait and see if Cayce is right.”

Who was Cayce?

Born in Kentucky, he believed he could go into some sort of hypnotic sleep, and while asleep, diagnose a person’s ills and recommend the cure. He also gave life readings, and in these readings he often gave predictions.

When he died at Virginia Beach, Va., in 1945, he left more than 14,000 documented records of his statements, or readings. These readings can be seen at the Association for Research and Enlightenment at Virginia Beach. More than six books have been written about Edgar Cayce.

His predictions? He foresaw two world wars and picked the years they would start and end. He forecast the 1929 depression. In the 1920’s, he saw racial strife in the future.

His Atlantis prediction, in part, goes: “The temple will rise again. Also there will be the opening of the temple of records, and those records that were put in the heart of the Atlantean land may also be found there. Poseidia (Cayce’s Atlantis broke up into five islands, the three largest being Poseidia, Aryan and Og) will be among the first portions of Atlantis to rise again. Expect it in sixty-eight and sixty-nine. British West Indies or Bahamas.”

Valentine, who is curator of the Miami museum of Science, said “The whole Bahama area is a mass of strange geology. There are walls that have been discovered under water near Bimini that we will investigate, and there are a number of suspicious areas about 50 miles south of Bimini that we’ll look into.”

Working with Valentine is Dimitri Rebikoff, Fort Lauderdale oceanographer and underwater explorer. Of Cayce’s Atlantis prediction, he said, “It is quite a coincidence. It is not impossible that the structure is part of Atlantis. This one is in about six feet of water, and obviously was originally built on an elevation.

“It has to be from 600 to 1,000 years old. It is the first sunken building to be discovered in the Western Hemisphere. You know, there is a basic legend in Mexico that says years ago a white man with a beard and blue eyes arrived from the sea to teach. Many people think the man was from Atlantis.”

Valentine and Rebikoff have asked permission of the Bahamian government to excavate the ruin, and are not revealing the location to keep away souvenir hunters and the curious.

“The edifice could be Mayan,” Valentine said. He has discovered many important Mayan relics during his explorations in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. “The Mayans are, I believe, a part of the Atlantis people.”

Whether you believe in Atlantis or not, or whether you believe what Cayce predicted, if you are at all curious, keep your eyes on the Bahamas.
