This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of August, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [979], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:50 to 12:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before, [979].

2. There is the tendency, as we find, to revert toward old disturbances; with the body allowing itself to become toxic from lack of proper eliminations and the lack of proper balance in that given the body to work upon. Hence we have the settlings of poisons or refuse forces that should be eliminated by the regular circulatory forces; causing dullness in the activities, headaches, upset stomach at times; tired, dreary feelings, as it were, about the body.

3. As we find in the present, we would do this:

4. Procure 8 ounces of Vinol. Draw off one tablespoonful, and in its place add a tablespoonful of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin. Shake this together very thoroughly. Take a teaspoonful of this three times each day, before the meals.

5. The active forces of these properties are upon the digestive system, and especially upon the kidneys; making for a purifying and a cleansing of same.

6. Then, as to the diet, be very mindful that the alkalin-reacting diet is rather closely adhered to.

7. And make this a rule for the body:

8. For at least three weeks at a period, then leaving off a week and then beginning again, we would:

9. Upon arising of morning, take a lemon, roll it, squeeze the juice from one-half of it into a glass (strained). Then fill the glass with water that is about ninety-eight temperature. Drink this, about thirty minutes before the meal is eaten. Do not eat unless this has been in the system for at least thirty minutes. It will tend to make for an alkalinizing of the system in a very thorough manner, and will aid in overcoming the general tendencies.

11. Continue the lemon juice in that manner for three weeks, then rest a week; and it’ll be found so helpful that the body will continue it for the next four years if necessary!

12. (Q) Would a change of climate be best? (A) Not necessarily.

13. (Q) Is the malarial climate the cause of my condition, or some other physical ill, or worry? (A) As indicated, the tendency for toxic forces and the accumulations of poisons in the system. It is a general reverting to old disturbances.

14. (Q) Any other advice? (A) Do that, as we find, for the conditions in the present.

15. We are through with this reading.

R1. 8/22/35 “Was glad there was not much expense as to medicines, etc., as there are at times given. I have started on the tr. and will adhere very closely to it. Have been eating very little meat for some time. The only thing I think I have done wrong is eating too much starchy foods such as white bread, potatoes. As a rule, however, I eat the whole wheat bread, getting the flour and making my own bread - have for years tried to be careful of my diet. I thank you for the list - that will help am sure. I shall let you hear later as to how the tr. does. Very gratefully yours.”

R2. 9/22/35 [979]‘s ltr. to EC:

Selma, Ala.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Received your very kind letter and appreciate your interest in my case have been taking the treatment as directed. Thought would give time to see how the treatment did before writing. I can not see much if any change. My feet burn & hurt, limbs ache & my head & eyes feel pretty bad most of the time.

I’m having the medicine (as prescribed) filled. I asked for the 8 ounces of VINOL. Where the medicine was sent out it was written Vinctone on the bottle I called the druggist and asked if that was the same thing. He said it was. So if there should be a mistake, would like if you will please tell me. I have taken every thing just as your prescribed diet and lemon & medicine, it may take more time before can see much result, any way will continue until medicine is gone, and will keep up the lemon & water as directed. Until I hear from you should there be any change.

The weather continues quite warm [but] cool night, and a great many in Selma are sick with malaria.

[2657] & his little son spent the week end with us week before last - [2657] wants me to come to Atlanta for a while thinks the higher climate may help me and I may go am not sure. If I do go will let you hear from me from there as to how I am getting along.

I am able to do most all my house work. However is often a fight to keep going. Almost go to sleep walking around and if I try to read at night am SURE to go to sleep in the attempt, which is not at all natural for me. Am hoping when weather gets cooler it may make a change.

R3. 10/1/35 EC’s ltr. to [979]:

Dear Mrs. [979]:

I have yours of the 22nd, and I don’t understand how the druggist could have told you that Vinctone is the same as Vinol. I’m sure this must be where the trouble is, in your not feeling better before this. You can get the 8 ounces of Vinol from most any drug store, I should think, and then you could draw off the tablespoonful and add the Elixir of Lactated Pepsin yourself. I’ve never heard of Vinctone; it must be some local preparation, as it was not listed with the druggist here; although he has plenty of Vinol. It may be the same thing, but I don’t think so. The surest thing would be for you to get the Vinol and then add the Pepsin yourself, as directed.

Be sure and let us know if you get it fixed up alright; and I certainly hope you will be seeing some results before very long. Know that we are anxious to help in any way possible.

R4. 10/22/35 [979]‘s ltr. to EC:

Atlanta, Ga.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

After receiving your last letter I called at the Swift drug store where they gave me the wrong medicine told them my Dr. had said he could not understand why they would say Vinol and Vinctone were the same. He said he was sorry the mistake was made what did I want him to do about it. I asked why he did that? It was NOT a mistake as I called him over the phone and told him the name on the bottle was spelt different and I wanted to be sure I was getting the right medicine and he had assured me it was the same thing, and I had taken it and instead of helping it had done me harm. He said “Oh no, it wouldn’t hurt you it was just a chill tonic.” Ha! Ha! You see he gave himself away in that very statement as he did not have the Vinol he first gave what he did have that he thought would not harm. I was not only given the wrong medicine but was kept so long from getting what was prescribed. I think such druggists should be punished for those kind of things, and believe it is only the reasons so many sick people are not helped. I have taken right the medicine the last two weeks or, week and a half, and believe it is helping me. I came to Atlanta two weeks ago today, have felt pretty bad most of the time in fact never have I felt like this before. No real pain any where except at times my feet & limbs ache so, but such a depressed feeling no energy, feel as if could sleep forever, this morning I feel some better. Some times I feel a numb feeling in the right side in foot & hand. I have kept as near as possible to your directions after a hard struggle to get med.

I left the folks at home about as usual, and [2657] & family are well, his little son […] was four years old 10 of Oct, [286] went to a friend who is in the wholesale Drug business & showed him the two names. One you had prescribed & one Swift had given me. He said what he gave me was a chill tonic & what you prescribed was a mineral oil, could not possibly have been a mistake that they were good at-doing things of that kind, so that is MY last dealing with THEM. Shall I continue the same medicine? and for how long? You may write me here as I may be here for a few weeks.

R5. 1/16/36 “Believe the medicine you prescribed for me helped a lot - I took 4 bottles - haven’t taken any for several wks. Would like to see what a ck. rdg. would say. [2657]‘s wife works for an eye specialist in Atlanta. While there he examined my eyes; he told me I must be careful of my health, especially my diet, as was having some hardening of the arteries. I do try to do the things I know will help; if I do the wrong things it’s just because I don’t know that they are the wrong things.
