This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of August, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [993], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:35 to 12:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Virginia. (Body & enquiring mind, in regard to her mental and material affairs; also her former incarnations in the earth’s plane and their influence in the present. You will answer the questions she submits, as I ask them:)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, the soul-entity’s activities in the earth.

2. In giving that which will be helpful in the answering of the questions here, we would first prelude this with that which may be helpful to all in understanding the approach to activities of a soul-entity in ANY given sphere.

3. That which is, IS; as the laws of the universe, as experienced by all, yet they touch the individuals in accord with that they as individuals in the material world measure through their own concept of the relation to that bringing consciousness to the individual - that is, the five senses; or coming into activity in such a manner that what is measured or meted is according to that the individual has had its IDEAL in any direction.

4. For to all minds there is a standard, a standard by which the mental activities, the moral activities, the social activities, the commercial activities are to be measured. And in some the ideal is spiritualized; in others, not. Yet the aptitude in judgements is often used in relationships to that they themselves have experienced, or have been trained to experience. See?

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Please advise my sister [560] and I regarding making some changes in our home. (A) There are those conditions that need clarification, as respecting changes. There are individuals that make for a continued antagonism in such relations. There are those that make for relations of a more harmonious nature.

Then, as we find, it would be well that there be such a change here; that those in accord may make for the activities that would bring about the better, the more ORDERLY associations in EVERY respect.

7. (Q) Are the plans we now have advisable? Please make any suggestions for changes. (A) The plans that are now indicated are advisable. To be sure, there must be considerations on the part of all concerned. But if these are made in accord with that contemplated in the present, well.

8. (Q) Does this refer to changing the house as we planned? (A) Changing the house, so the activities are different, you see.

9. (Q) How can we increase our income, as we feel it is necessary at this time. (A) In these changes that are contemplated, as we find, this should make for an increase; as will those expansions in the associations of those activities in which the body and bodies are interested, that HAVE been contemplated. For these may take ON the associations in the government activities that will make for a great advancement in the income.

10. (Q) What prevented me from meeting the entity on Aug. 17, 1929, that was suggested in rdg. July 17, 1929? [993-1] (A) The natural consequences of change in mental attitudes of individuals.

11. (Q) Will I meet him? If so, when? (A) If this is left in the attitude of expecting that which is the better, that which is the correct thing, that which will make for the greater advancement in the spiritual, the mental and the material things, and changes in the activities, then it will be brought about - if it is in keeping with that for the better or greater soul, mental and body development.

12. (Q) Will I be able to obtain the knowledge of the metals and minerals of the earth, and use of same for man’s benefit? (A) This will have much to do with the entering in of the self to the higher vibrations or associations with the universal consciousness.

These may be used, yes. As used by the body, a material knowledge of same is well. But as used by THIS body, it should be rather as the precipitation from the universal consciousness in their activity with the individual needs.

This is rather confusing to some, as we find. It is like this: The source of mineral life, the sources of vegetable life, are as the active forces through their various forms in the earth upon the atomic structure of mankind, see? As those known to exist in food values or medicinal values, as being active principles upon certain portions of the body-organs themselves for their reduction of an activity in a certain portion of the body-structural force, or an increase of activity to create a balance or a coordinating through the body-force itself. See?

Then, a superficial or a material knowledge of same is well. For an illustration: Gold and silver are elements that may be assimilated by certain glands IN THE SYSTEM for a SPECIFIC activity. These are elements that, SEPARATED or coordinated together, become as METALS, that are specific, and used as specie in man’s relationship one to another.

These are metals that are found in quantities in the relationships with other metals, in the earth, through activity that has been brought about.

In each individual that has attained an element wherein it has become a separate entity, there is the necessity of the influence of these metals in the system. Not as metals, but rather as the elements in their formation that work with specific functionings, specific activities in the system.

The ENTITY’S activity ([993] now) is in being able to raise within the vibrations of individuals that which is a resuscitating, a revivifying influence and force through the deep meditation, the attunement of self to the higher vibrations in Creative Forces that are manifested in man through the promises that are coming from Creative Force or Energy itself.

Then, when there is the need of this or that in an individual, the entity may - through its knowledge and understanding of the various metals - then MAKE for that raising within the individual activity of those influences or forces necessary to meet the needs of that required for the resuscitating of the forces in an individual or separate entity. See?

So, a knowledge of same - or a superficial knowledge, as may be said, or an educational knowledge of same - is necessary. Why? So that consciously there may be stimulated through the activities of the body, in its relationships to others, such vibrations as to precipitate or create from those influences passing through a body that necessary influence for its own activity.

13. (Q) Please give my seal and its interpretation? (A) This might be given in more than one way or manner. As we find, as WAS given before, it - the seal - is as this:

An outer circle that is formed by the olive branch, much as is - or WAS - around the rim of some pieces of money; notably the fifty-cent pieces of the coinage of ‘90, or of ‘53 and ‘72. These carried, see? these same. This the outer rim. This is as the piece, or the meaning of same:

The peace that encircles the efforts or the life or the activity of the entity itself; while the crossing of the branch in the end indicates that the entity itself is not wholly or always understood by others, yet this should not deter the entity from the activities in that direction.

In the center of the circle would be a pyramid, preferably in purple, with a golden edge on same; indicating or representing the activities and the higher vibrations attained, higher activity attained by the entity during its activity in that particular phase of its experience.

From the lower corners to the crown or crest or seal outside, you see, there would run lines; and from the top of the pyramid to the top border where the ends of the branch meet, almost above same, you see. These lines would be BLUE; representing the Truth that emanates up and down or to ALL points of the activity of the entity itself.

On either side, at the top, would appear a BELL; or the shape, as it were, of a bell from a hyacinth rather than a BELL of a commercial thought or of such natures. These would be put on either side, two or three together, see; the little bell with a ribbon or tape from same to the top of the line that comes from the pyramid. These would be in silver with edges of the gold, while the ribbon or tape would be blue; representing the connecting, as it were, of the definite messages of help, aid, and the SENDING out to others that help which may come from the activities of the entity.

Underneath same, or across the bottom, would be a ribbon also, upon which would be put the words to represent or mean the efforts of the entity: “IN HIM I TRUST!”

14. (Q) Did I receive a mark when I was in Egypt at the time Ra-Ta was Priest? (A) Upon the corner of the lip, yes.

15. (Q) Is it visible? (A) At times.

16. (Q) To what colors do I vibrate best? (A) Blue, silver, gold.

17. (Q) Please explain question in rdg [993-3, Par. 3-A], Oct. 21, 1931, “In this experience much may be gained in an understanding of the conditions in the earth’s plane or that particular portion of same occupied by the entity. In that as may be given, do not let the entity become confused in the present, for from the appearances before this much was met and overcome.” (A) That the entity WITHOUT confusion may in the present, in its surroundings, in whatever environ it may choose to make for the activity, apply much that has been overcome in the earth’s experiences throughout its sojourns in the earth.

Or, as may be a portion of an explanation:

The entity in the appearances in the earth has been active in associations with those influences that made for the moral and the religious activities (or what would be termed such in the parlance of today). So may the entity in the present apply the truths of these in such measures and manners as to bring comfort, aid, understanding, interpretation, hope, faith, confidence into the minds and experiences and hearts of those the entity contacts.

18. (Q) What should I avoid that I do not become confused in the present? (A) HOLD FAST to Him, the Giver of all good and perfect gifts! Do not let FORM confuse thee, ever! That is, interpreted it means this:

It becomes necessary for each individual through some PARTICULAR form, some particular activity, to reach an awareness or a consciousness. It is necessary that every individual withdraw; consecrating, purifying the body, the mind. But that each should withdraw at some given hour, or that each should sit in some individual form, or each should repose in some particular angle, or each should bathe in some particular water, or each should use some particular odor, or each should have some particular THOUGHT upon entering - this is CONFUSION, see?

19. (Q) What was my full name in my last incarnation as a Fairfax? (A) We don’t get that here. (Pause) We will seek farther with this.

20. (Q) What caused me when a child to have such uncomfortable experiences when wearing anything tight? (A) That is a throwback or an overlap from the experiences of the entity THROUGHOUT most of its appearances.

These experiences occurred, or the feeling of being closed in, when there was the attempt of the body to give EXPRESSION to itself. If it sought to just “look pretty,” or to be in some particular activity, these did not occur so noticeably. But when attempting to give EXPRESSION - as in study, as in an activity, as for the giving out of self in any expression - these came; from the giving-outs of self in the Temple when the entity, as it were, LOOSENED the mental and spiritual attributes and activities of others, and it REQUIRED same in self.

As in the present experience there is to be the activity made more in accord with the activities of the entity or soul force through the Egyptian period in the Temple Beautiful, so may there be in the manners of expression thy ways of HANDLING the situations and conditions.

These to be sure, are varied according to the prelude given in the first, you see.

But, as may be seen in the present, there are times and experiences when others misconstrue the importance to the entity and to themselves of the INSTRUCTIONS that may be given TO or by the entity at some given exercise. Is this understood? [The answer from [993], “Yes.”]

21. (Q) Why was I always partial to silk and light weight clothing? (A) In keeping with the same conditions as just given, or the same EMOTIONS - as it may be expressed.

22. (Q) Should I marry in this incarnation? (A) If this is to be a period of expression in that direction, it will be SHOWN thee in the manner as has been indicated.

23. (Q) Was I associated with Jesus Christ when He was on the earth as the son of Mary? (A) As this IS to become a portion of the experience, this may best be given later.

You were!

This may not be wholly understood. It is as this: Individuals in the earth move from cycle to cycle in their own development, in their relationships with individuals and with the activities having to do with that which may be accomplished in a given experience. They have, as it were, taken this or that road in meeting certain conditions. And ONE experience at one portion of the life, then, is as a lamp or a guidebook. Then when they have come to the crossroads again, as it were, there is another experience or another lesson.

This might be illustrated in a very simple, yet a very direct way and manner as follows: In training the mind in material things, that pertaining to the care of the body is not that used in meeting a friend; yet it is at times a PORTION of the same, see? Yet in meeting the friend, various portions of the development come to the forefront; as to what has been the manner of activity, the social custom, or the needs of the individual - whether friend or foe.

So, as that association is to be, as it were, the crowning of the efforts, the experiences of the entity in this particular experience or sphere of activity, hold fast that thou hast; and then it may be given thee.

24. (Q) Please give the association and relationship I have had in the past incarnations with my present brother Walter. (A) In the experience before this, when the activities were in the Virginian land, the associations were then very close; in that the self depended in part upon the present brother for the social, the moral understandings; for he was the minister that thou acted with.

25. (Q) With my brother Willie? (A) Rather in the Persian land do we find the close association, when there were the periods of the understandings in the bringing together of MANY peoples for the distribution of the tenets that were to be the moral codes as well as the justification of activities with individuals. The brother Willie then was in the capacity of one that came TO the entity. Hence resentments at times arise because of the judgements the entity gives at present.

26. (Q) With my sister Sadie [Sarah]? (A) We don’t find these associations in that which may be given in the present.

27. (Q) My sister [560]? (A) These associations were in those periods that are to be the crowning of the experience, as well as in the Egyptian activity when they were very closely associated in the Temple Service; one as the prophetess, the other as the leader or the director of those who came to the entity for the ministering of the rites that made for the greater purifying of the mind and body of the individuals. They were very closely associated in body-experiences, then, that will and do make in the present for very close relationships in the social, the moral, the mental, the commercial activities; drawn very close together.

28. (Q) My father […]? (A) Again in the Egyptian we find the closer associations, for the father was then the father in the EGYPTIAN association - or the father in the flesh; while the relationships in the Persian brought a different character of association but such that it made for the associations as the father again in the present, see?

29. (Q) My mother […]? (A) These associations were very close in many of the entity’s activities. They drew rather one upon the other in the Egyptian, in the Persian, in the American; that is, they were DEPENDENT one upon the other for their relationships in the earth.

30. (Q) Please interpret the experience I had on Aug. 1, 1935, a copy of which I hold in my hands. [See 993-4, Par. R2.] (A) These experiences, as we find, are the interpreting of much that the entity has given out to others in former appearances; as it were, returning in the various forms for the interpretation in the present. And as the entity, or body-consciousness, become more and more aware of those influences and how they work upon the minds of others, the greater will be then the abilities for the giving out of self in these activities.

31. (Q) The experience of Aug. 6, 1935, a copy I hold in my hands. [See 993-4, Par. R2.] (A) Again there is the experience given in an emblematical manner of these things to which the entity may attain in the present, see?

32. (Q) Of Aug. 12, 1935, a copy in my hands. [See 993-4, Par. R2.] (A) This needs an interpretation all its own. We wouldn’t confuse this with the others, yet it is a portion - or builded upon those. We will give this later.

33. (Q) As I have for some time been leading the worship service in the Junior Dept. at … Methodist Church, and also teaching in the same department, which of the two should I accept this Fall? or should I give up both of them and devote all my time to the Glad Helpers work? Please advise. (A) Do not give up the work in association with the church. As we find, that which leads in the worship, rather than the teaching, would be that to hold fast to. For as thou hast through all the experiences led in the worship or in the expressions of worship, this fits thee rather to keep that which may raise much in the experiences of others.

As the Glad Helpers work, this - to be sure - will become more and more a portion of self; in the ability, by the laying on of hands, by being present with them, to bring to others a QUICKER response; or precipitating strength through those knowledges, those understandings, those livings of the self in the light. Keep all of this.

34. (Q) How should I sign my name, that would give me the best vibration to carry on my work? (A) In the manner as it is in the present, except be more free in the manner of the connections and endings of the name.

35. (Q) Can you now tell me what was my full name in my last reincarnation as a Fairfax? (A) Nettie F.

36. (Q) What was the full name of my father at that time? (A) John D. Fairfax.

37. (Q) Is there any record of this? If so, where can it be located? (A) There is a record that may be had from a MRS. Fairfax (whose address may be had) in Washington; from the beginnings. It is of the Edwards family but brings is this. [GD’s note: The Mrs. Fairfax referred to is: Mrs. Charles W. Fairfax, The Highlands, Apt. 210, Conn. & Calif. Sts., Washington, D.C.]

38. (Q) Please give details as to how my sister [560] then, Geraldine Fairfax, lost her life in being crushed in the earth. At what age was she? (A) Just the beginning of the teens, when there were those cave-ins from the preparations of some buildings in that period.

39. (Q) How did it happen? Was she just playing around them? (A) Playing around; and then there were those activities from the earth trembling.

40. (Q) Is there any other advice? (A) We would give both the interpretation of the experience of the 12th and the appearance with Him; but these need consideration; these need much thought, much prayer. We will give these later.

41. We are through for the present.

“My sister and I, wish to express at this time what Mr. Edgar Cayce means to us. We have known Mr. Cayce for seven years. And during that time we have grown to know and love him for his great service which he is rendering to others. We feel that he is expressing in his daily living the teachings of Jesus.

R2. Dreams, Experiences. [See 993-4, Par. 31-A.] Aug. 1, 1935:

I was told to marry. The one whom I was to marry was much older than I. He had dark skin. There were those who seemed to think I should not marry a man much older than I. My sister, Mrs. [Sarah], was persuading me not to do so. She began telling me it was in all the papers and everyone was talking about it. I was impressed that I must do it, by so doing I could help save the world. There was a woman there who seemed very fond of him, and I was standing with her and others waiting for him to come. I saw coming through the air, as I thought, a dirigible. As I looked again it was like a covered wagon drawn by horses. They were coming through the air as fast as an airship. I spoke to those around me, saying I thought we should go out to meet them; and someone answered no, they would land there where we were. We were standing in a field. We had no more than spoken before they were there. I was unable to remember just what followed. My sister again, after I had married and had quite a number of children, tried to get me to leave. I told her it was impossible. It then began raining. She and I ran for shelter and as we did he appeared before us. I did not want him to think I was trying to run away, so I said to him, “We were trying to get out of the rain.” And as he was coming up I turned to my sister and said, “You see now, I could not get away from him if I wanted to.” I realized it was something that had to be met. My children some of them were light skin and others dark skin. There was one whom my sister said looked like me when I was a child, only it was very light complexioned and light hair. But it was to the dark skinned little girl that I seemed to be drawn, and put my arms around. She seemed to understand.

Aug. 6, 1935: [See Par. 32-A.] I saw a woman dressed in a flowing robe, and there was a serpent wrapped around her beginning at her feet and continuing until it reached her head. She seemed to be thrown overboard, but instead of drowning as they expected, the serpent seemed to swell; it looked like a cork serpent, and she was standing on the water. The interpretation that came to me at that time was; that which had dragged her down had now been raised and was saving her. As I was looking out upon her there came a beautiful boat which was called the ‘Queen of the Sea.’ She was attached to the bow of this beautiful ship, the glory was indescribable. She had now turned as if to gold. Also the serpent. I could see both the harbor and the ship. The ship was moving and coming into harbor. At times I thought it was Norfolk harbor and at other times New York. All the buildings were modern.

Aug. 12, 1935: [See Par. 33-A.] As I was coming down a hall I met a little girl about twelve years old. She impressed me as being a Persian. She stopped me by holding my arm. I was not afraid as I have often thought I would be if I saw someone from the other side. I said to her, as I have often expressed myself to others, “I am not seeking to communicate with those who have gone on. I am seeking Jesus Christ and His way.” As I was speaking, she just put her hand to her head and upon her head was a band, and in front was the Cross. Again she put her right hand and pressed her fingers together, and there appeared the Crown. And I said, “Crown!” Again she did the same thing and there appeared the Glory. And I said, “Glory!” I then seemed to understand the glory was felt by me, and after I awakened I was impressed that the little girl was myself as a child in Persia.
