This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Dayton-Biltmore, Dayton, Ohio, this 11th day of December, 1935, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [1025] and father, Mr. [4219] and Hugh Lynn Cayce.]
Time of Reading 9:30 to 9:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1025]; this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find, there are changes in the general physical forces of the body. Some are for the betterment. And in some conditions, if those suggestions as given had been followed more closely, we would have found a more ready response.
-
The conditions are such that the causes of the disturbances, that produce incoordinations in the reflex forces of the nerves to the cerebrospinal and sympathetic system, are such that the reflex effects are produced which at times appear to be more severe; but these are the system’s attempting to adjust itself to conditions that would be, that are being, brought about by same.
-
These are conditions as we find them in the present:
-
As indicated, the lesions - or adhesions AND lesions - in the lacteal ducts are the basic cause for the disturbance in the nervous system. And these arise from the inability of the assimilating system to function with the sympathetic nervous system in its reaction to the nerve reflexes or impulses. For these conditions, as we find, exist:
-
When there is an expression or activity from the sympathetic nervous system, or the sensory system that responds through the sympathetic nerve system, we find there is the movement or impulse to and from the brain centers themselves. Then with a lesion or adhesion, the impulse is cut off - or deflected. For, as indicated, we have lesion in the lacteal duct area, from an injury there in times back; this the right side, just below the liver area.
-
Hence we have first an intestinal disturbance through the activity of the assimilating system, producing at times disturbances to the liver; at others producing to the pancrean secretions, at others to the activities through the peristaltic movement; not only in the lower intestinal tract but to those activities through the jejunum itself.
-
Then this coordinating or connection with the solar plexus nerve centers, making for an incoordination with the cerebrospinal nerve system, produces at the base of the brain - or through the medulla oblongata - and incoordinant reaction.
-
Hence those recurrent conditions that have occurred and that do occur.
-
As to the applications that have been indicated for the body, then:
-
It is necessary that there be sufficient of the Castor Oil Packs taken to relax the lacteal duct area, the caecum and the central portion about the umbilicus center.
-
Also in giving the adjustments necessary from the 9th dorsal to the lumbar axis, or 4th lumbar, there must be the massage - or the kneading, gently, of the whole right portion of the abdomen, specifically. And then there must be the relaxing of those centers also in the coccyx area.
-
The lights and the other applications as indicated would also be kept.
-
Be very mindful that the diets are such that congestion does not recur.
-
Thus we will find that these lesions, the tendencies produced by the adhesions, will be absorbed - and those tendencies for tissue to become as a filament through the circulation, either on nerve impulse or the lymph activity, will be eliminated.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) For what period of time and how often should the Castor Oil Packs be given? (A) These should be given regularly for periods of two or three days each, see? for a period of an hour to two and a half hours each day they are given. Then a rest period.
But during the rest periods, as well as on the days the packs are given, the massage of the abdomen should be given - as well as the adjustments of the cerebrospinal system from the 9th dorsal to the lumbar axis, AND the coccyx area.
-
(Q) The adjustments should be given every day? (A) Adjustments should be given every day. It would be more preferable for these to be in periods of three, four, five, six days. Then a rest period of two days; then again.
-
(Q) Is the light being used by Dr. Johnson as suitable as the Mercury Quartz? (A) Not as penetrating - inter-penetrating - as the Mercury Light would be. This is penetrating, you see, but not of the same nature or character. But if the green lights are used with same, this may be substituted for the Mercury Light.
-
(Q) Should the massage be osteopathically or chiropractically given? (A) This may be given in either manner, if given properly. It is necessary for a massage, rather a KNEADING of the area; gently, to be sure, that there is not more irritation.
-
(Q) Can Dr. Johnson give this massage, and these adjustments, correctly? (A) He can give these properly.
-
(Q) Should the Luminal taken before first reading be continued? If so, in what quantities? (A) Luminal is a sedative of a hypnotic nature, and is habit-forming. Not as much so as those of the poppy nature, that form greater congestion. When necessary, this may be taken - but keep as little of this as can be accomplished without the body suffering under the congestion.
-
(Q) Do you find any condition existing in the brain, or is it reflex? (A) As we find, and as indicated, the accumulations that have been there are rather reflex - and are PRODUCED by the condition in the lacteal duct area.
-
(Q) Of what nature was the injury that caused or brought about this condition in the lacteal area? (A) This was a pressure, or a lick.
As we find, if these suggestions will be followed as indicated, the lesion may be absorbed and eliminated.
When there are the periods of the apparent return, be patient; but APPLY the Castor Oil Packs then the more often and more regularly.
Let Sodium Chloride be a portion of the diet. Don’t cut the salt out of foods, then, but use a little more than ordinarily used in preparing the foods.
- (Q) Any other advice regarding diet? (A) Be mindful that those things are not taken that are hard of digestion for the body (and these change or alter from time to time). Not too much starch; not too much of sweets.
Of course, activity in the open as much as possible is always desired.
-
(Q) Any special exercise? (A) That which tends to exercise from the waist up is the more preferable, from the very nature of the disturbance as indicated.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 12/19/35 Father’s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Asso. For Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
We have succeeded in obtaining the services of a Dr. R. L. Taylor [Robert L. Taylor, D.O.] who is now giving [1025] his treatments on the basis of following exactly the instructions embodied in your reading. I am particularly pleased in this connection, because the Doctor has demonstrated a wholly satisfactory attitude of sympathy in the whole matter.
He has raised a particular question in connection with the treatment in the respect, that is, he would like to know if the treatment as far as he is concerned specified in the second reading is to be done in conjunction with that specified in the first reading, or whether the treatment in the first reading is to be stopped.
It is, of course, too early yet to make any predictions as to [1025]‘s improvement, although I am encouraged to say that he feels somewhat improved at present, and has unbounded faith in your diagnosis and treatment, as we all have.
I am enclosing herewith my check for $20.00, and will appreciate hearing from you, at your convenience.
Thank you again for your help, and also wish to reiterate that it was indeed a pleasure to meet Mrs. Cayce and Hugh. With kindest regards to all of you, I am
Sincerely yours, […]
R2. 12/31/35 EC’s letter: “My opinion is he would take the tr. where they are just now, that is disregard the former suggestion except where it conforms with the present. Isn’t that also the Dr.’s interpretation?”
R3. 1/13/36 [1025]‘s letter to EC:
…, Ohio
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am very sorry that I have not written before but I hope I may be forgiven.
In this letter I wish to tell you exactly how I feel and how I have been progressing since I saw you in Dayton last November.
On the whole, I have felt better and looked better. I have been taking the treatments advised by you, but I must say that the attacks have not become less frequent as yet, but I hope that it won’t be long now.
Last Friday I had two rather severe attacks and afterwards I had some pain on the right side of my abdomen.
I have some trouble with gas in the abdomen and I notice that this occurs after meals; also I have some trouble in getting to sleep at night principally because of my nerves. I am nervous at times during the day and I get so that I am not able to sit still and composed, instead I am tense and can’t seem to control myself.
I wish, if you could, offer some suggestions on how I can keep my nerves quiet so that I could be at ease.
I hope that you and Mrs. Cayce and Hugh are in good health.
I hope to see you soon.
Best wishes for a happy successful New Year.
Best wishes, [1025]

Mr. Edgar L. Cayce, Asso. for Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I was sorry to learn from your last letter to me that you have been indisposed. I sincerely hope that you have fully recovered long before this.
In regard to [1025]‘s treatment, as specified in your second reading, this has been followed literally and continuously, which has extended over a period of about six weeks, as you know.
[1025]‘s condition now is such that he is suffering principally from a disordered nervous system, attacks coming, in practically every instance, from a slight shock of some kind, either from an unexpected noise, stumbling over something unexpectedly, or from dropping something he may have in his hand. He had gone for the last two weeks without any attacks until yesterday afternoon when he had a rather serious one. He also complained to me yesterday of night losses, having had five in five successive nights.
On receipt of your last letter to [1025] I inquired of the Health Home Remedies Company concerning the appliance you mentioned in your letter, that might be beneficial for this nervousness, particularly pertaining to his difficulty in getting to sleep, but have had no reply from my inquiry.
I would appreciate your now giving another check reading, at your earliest convenience; the time of which you will please notify me, in order that we may conform to such instructions as you may wish to give concerning it.
With kindest personal regards to Mrs. Cayce, Hugh and yourself, I am
Sincerely yours, […]
