This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Artic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of June, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1180], through Active Membership of Mr. [257] in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Hotel Seville, Time of Reading Madison Ave. & 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. 29th St., Room …, N.Y. City. (Body and enquiring mind, also his properties in Valencia Co., New Mexico (as per map and correspondence which I hold in my hand). You will please inform him which section of this property is the most valuable and what developments can be had, giving sands, depths, and amount of production. You will answer the questions he has submitted, as I ask them)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [1180]; this we have had before.

2. As to the properties or holdings in Valencia County, New Mexico, it will depend - to be sure - upon the way of handling, the manner in which the fields or operations are carried on, as to which would prove the more valuable.

3. To be sure, the greater depth in those portions of the holdings as indicated that there shall be through the operations the greater depths would prove to be - if handled properly. To say that such and such exists at twenty-nine hundred (2900) or three thousand (3000) feet, or thirty-two hundred (3200) feet or thirty-eight hundred (3800) feet (as the different portions or fields are indicated), or that at such a depth will be produced this or that is with the provision that these are to be handled in such a way and manner. And this to be sure depends upon the activities in the minds of men.

4. Those fields of activity where there is lesser depth or the higher gravity oils to be sure are very valuable, provided same are handled properly. Not producing such great quantities as in some others, yet the excellency of the quality would indicate these to be good.

5. As we would give then, in a practical manner, the greater portions of the holdings are EXCELLENT properties.

6. As to their evaluation, this depends upon the manners in which they are handled, yet the very quality, the very character as well as the quantity of production - as we would find - indicates these are worthy of exploration by those that would of their own accord investigate or invest in such properties.

7. As to the manner in which this entity has approached individuals or groups that are considering same, this as we find would be worthy of consideration, yet there will be the necessity of there being investigation by those that are HOLDING at the present time a claim in a manner for the time being.

8. Do not allow this to become then so dragged out as to become detrimental to the period of lease holdings by the body [1180] or to jeopardize the interests in such a way and manner that there becomes a loss to self of some of the holdings; or that portion of it becomes so involved that there is not sufficient of the moneys for the protection of the greater interests of [1180].

9. But as indicated these are worthy of serious consideration, and if there is the word given or the bond prepared, well. And don’t take the word alone, but let it be prepared in such a measure or manner as has been indicated, and then there can be some dependence. But do not let the time element jeopardize the interests.

10. There are others as we find that may be interested in this undertaking, though their operations have been and are of the natures that there have been the greater operations in other fields. But while the entity [1180] is IN the present surroundings, through associates or the individuals acquainted with the activities of one Davis [Edgar B. Davis] in the Luling field [Luling, Texas], meet or contact WHILE IN New York those interested WITH him in such operations. He can be trusted, even though it becomes necessary to communicate with Davis in Luling, see?

11. Ready for questions.

12. (Q) Who should he see in N.Y. to contact Davis? (A) Get in touch with those in his New York office, or New York associations.

13. (Q) How many paying sands and depths? (A) These will come more by investigations than by laying these out here. This would depend upon location, and upon the manner of handling.

As we find there are from three to five sands in various localities.

14. (Q) Is the proposition offered (as explained in the letter) satisfactory or best for me? (A) Just as has been indicated, do not allow the time period to jeopardize the own interests; though it will require time for the investigation of the holdings or the conditions on the part of the individuals to whom this is addressed. For if they are to invest sufficient of the capital they will not SIGN same without some investigation. And should they attempt or should they desire or indicate that they would without such investigation, then be afraid of them!

But do not let this period of their investigation be of such a long duration that it jeopardizes the holdings or the interests of [1180].

15. (Q) Will these people be able to go through with their bargain? (A) Be able, if they will carry on in the way that they have in themselves outlined.

16. (Q) Is George Grober, a refinery man at Artesia, able to be of any help to me in developing shallow oil on my property? (A) Able to be of help, and especially with the associates of Grober - both in Arkansas and Louisiana.

17. (Q) Who is the right one to trust in a deal of this sort, and how should I manage myself? (A) As has been indicated, these through the counsels with those - as with the Davis’ INTERESTS; may be eventually with himself, his interests. These can be trusted; as can those that have been contacted if they are IN the position to handle same; that is, if they will carry on in the manner in which these are being undertaken at the present. But do not let the time element jeopardize the conditions.

18. (Q) Is the present bunch a good one to be tied to, or not? (A) You might say Yes and be correct, and you might say No and be correct. The indications, or those things that are to be warned of, have been given. If they have once given their word, very good.

19. (Q) In what way can David E. Kahn of 206 Lexington Ave., N.Y., be helpful to me? (A) Only through connections or the leads that might be given to operations in other fields or those in the immediate surroundings.

20. (Q) How can Edgar Cayce of Va. Beach, Va., be helpful to me? (A) This will be of its own self. Let this be dependent upon the helpfulness that may be given to the suggestions from those who seek through such channels.

21. (Q) Are there any other people in N.Y. who could be interested in aiding this work, or assisting me financially? (A) These have been indicated, and do those.

22. (Q) W. S. Mitchell of 32 Terrace Rd., Medford, Mass., is the representative. Advise me about his standing, financially and otherwise. (A) If he is able to carry to those interests in the manner as he is attempting, fine. DO NOT let the necessity of investigation jeopardize the conditions!

23. (Q) What could Perry Osborne of Fleming, Osborne, 20 Exchange Pl., N.Y., do to help? (A) That would depend upon what he desires to do! We wouldn’t rely too much upon him because he has other interests and they are not in this direction. There may be some friends that he may interest in interesting themselves, provided they are able to see a great holding within themselves. But his interests do not lie in this direction to the great extent.

24. (Q) Can Dr. H. H. Francis, 3541 Harrison Blvd., Kansas City, be of assistance to me in developing this property? (A) Can be of the assistance and help in developing, ONCE there has become operations! Must reach this point as we find before the great interest would be or could be shown.

25. (Q) What advice can you give me that would be helpful at this time? (A) We have given that, and don’t lose sight of those things given.

The properties are valuable; hold to them. Do not allow self to become so involved as to lose hold of that thou hast.

I certainly wish to thank you for the reading on my property until you are better paid I am well pleased with it as I well know you should have a definite location in order to give much information as to production etc. But as a hole I think I have a real property and have been busy since the reading. I shall keep you posted as to progress we make on same.

My dear Mr. Cayce:-

Mrs. […] just suggested that I drop you a line as we know you are anxious to know what progress we are making if any.

Well, so far it seems like my trip to New York was of no value but time may prove it different, that man Mitchell fell down. I have heard nothing more from Dave since leaving New York but he is terrible busy. We study the reading and wish that we could contact that Mr. Davis [11/26/49 See article in THE NEW YORKER, “Mr. Davis and his millions, WHERE ARE THEY NOW?”] [8/51 American Magazine, HE GIVES AWAY HIS MILLIONS.] of Luning, Texas. Dave was in contact with him so I dislike to write him.

This man Grober we asked about in the reading is a very practical man, has considerable production, a large refinery in the south eastern part of the State, he uses an instrument of some sort to locate his oil, but he finds it, so who can question it. Well he was here a few days after my return, and has been much enthused over my property for some time, and very anxious to drill some of it, but he has about all he can handle at present, but I am turning him 10,000 acres out of the southwest corner of my property to drill on, we are completing the contract this morning so have that much done.

I feel we have a wonderful property here, and hope I am able to hold on as the reading said, until I do put it over. We read your letter often where you say the readings have said for a long time that eventually something good would work out for us, and we sincerely hope this is it, and big enough to really mean something worth while for all concerned in us, and if you have any suggestions please feel free to make them.

I believe I told you I have Mother and Father in Kansas City am pleased to report they are coming along nicely. I expect to see them the middle of the week.

Dear [1180]-

Thanks for yours of 4th, had begun to wonder what had happened to you and if any thing had ever developed with your undertaking there. Do hope you will be able to work the riffle, and hold on until you do get things going.

Sounds as if you might work something out with Grober, and certainly hope you do. Am very sure you have a wonderful piece of property and you certainly deserve from my way of looking at things to get it developed and have something out of it all and feel very sure you will succeed.

Yes. My wife reminds me every time we hear from you, of what the reading said about you long before we ever met you, in fact before Dave or Major W. David E. Kahn or Major Edwin G. Wilson - early [3777] series?] met you even, and was their reason for trying to locate you and I don’t think where the reading has made such a statement, that it hasn’t eventually worked out, and can tell you it was all to the good. Hope can get it out some time and show it to you, but did not have a sec’y at the time, and and my wife took it and wrote it also.

No did not know your people were in K.C. How are they, [1180]. Be sure and remember me to them when you see them or write them.

Have had big season at the Beach this year the largest in the history of the Beach. Hope this finds you and Mrs. [2519] just fine and every thing on the move to better things. Dave’s family were here this summer for several weeks, but Dave only for a day or such a matter, haven’t heard from him of late.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I have been giving you much thought of late, especially what you said in one of your recent letters about the readings always saying I would have success in a big way, and this thought has been in my mind so much of late.

Dave was telling me while in New York that you always contend there is a large pool in Sansaba Co., and he also thinks so. Now that I have my business well in hand what do you think of the possibility of my slipping over there and again leasing up that territory, I have a man with a radio devise that has proven 97% on locating oil (his name is Dr. H. H. Francis, M.D., 3541 Harrison Blvd., K.C., Missouri if you care to check on him) between him and you I feel we would be most sure of making the right location.

As I recall it that is fairly good drilling and inexpensive, as the country is again going oil minded, Dave might be able to contact the finance in New York and I can personally see to the drilling, so it will be reasonably priced, I can do it at actual cost or will put a set price on it for a guaranteed job.

Now think this over, if you like take it up with Dave and get his idea of it, and this may be the very thing we have all been waiting on, and it can easily be large enough to fix us all for life, if this appeals to you and Dave, you can give me what information you can on the old well, the amount of acreage you think can be had, the best people there to contact, what did the drilling you done cost etc.

I expect to have a little time not far from there before long and if you think it a good suggestion I shall see what I think can be done in getting the leases together, give what we must for the money and you, Dave and I split the balance.

Dave would like to do this same thing at Comyn so let me hear what you think of it, you might in writing Dave send him this letter or a copy of it. I am at present well pleased with the condition of my business. My father and mother are still under Dr’s care in Kansas City but doing nicely and I expect to take them home soon. Hoping you the best of everything, both [2519] and myself wish to be remembered to all the family.

Dear [1180]

I have yours of the 15th. I’m certainly glad to know that things are shaping up for you and I hope that very soon you will have them in fine shape.

Before I forget it, I want to ask you what you know about the territory in the southeastern portion of New Mexico. Is there any prospect there?

Now, regarding the proposition in San Saba County, [[5628] series] the readings have insisted that the head of the pool, that Sipes Springs, Desdamona, Eastland and all those fields were only a portion of that. But the tests that have been made and the readings have indicated that it was not an easy job to drill there, as it would be necessary to go through some very disappointing shifts that had covered the pool. In the first test that the Cayce Petroleum [[3777] series] made we had a very good show and a good chance to carry on, but it was destroyed. In the last test that a friend of mine made there in the same field, when he struck this formation that they usually don’t expect to find oil in (I don’t remember the name just now; it’s supposed to be disintegrated granite or something like that), he of course threw up the sponge; though the information in the readings has insisted it is a very large field.

I expect to go to New York next week and in all probability will be with Dave a good deal. I’ll talk with him and will write you then more fully.

My dear Mr. Cayce and family:-

It has been so long since writing you, that I hardly know how to start however, we have never forgot you, and often speak of that time which we hope to be near that we can again not only see you but be together again in some good work.

Since writing you I lost my father last March 6th in Ohio, Mother is still well, as for us we are both the same only a few years older. We are still staying with this big oil property out here, have had a hard time doing it but at last have one test pretty well down is 3047 ft. and financed on to 4500 ft. Have had considerable oil and looks sure now of a worth while producer. We are flat broke have our home in a friend’s name who took it over for us, aside from that we owe but very little, but we still have about one hundred thousand acres of that land all paid for but about $300.00 which we hope to pay this week.

Now should this continue to prove good we are in the big money, but should it not continue and we fail to sell at least some of it we will be in hard shape, so I am wondering if you could work in some place just a couple of questions, should we continue on or will we have a substantial offer on part or all if so should we accept?

I shall not bother you with much until hearing from you which time I hope to be soon, and we be able to report something more interesting.

I followed your advise or what I took as such and called on Dave David E. Kahn]. I thought being both of us have had heavy responsibilities since last meeting we may look upon life from a different angle now and I am glad I did, he treated me fine and is much interested in my business.

Now as for coming down I will not be able to at present and as for you giving me readings & etc. I do not feel I am entitled to them. I have done nothing to help you keep going or anything and such would be only imposing on you. But Dave at once outlined some questions he wants me to send you and ask that you wire the answer soon as you can possibly slip them in but I think to Mail them will be fast enough.

I am on a deal with some big people here & Dave wants to know more about it soon as possible so I am enclosing a map [See Source File Key #1180 for map of portions of town of Tome Grant - Valencia County, N.M. re 1180-8] of my property also Copy of agreement I entered into and just signed. I have marked off the part I am dealing these people also a strip off the west side which I have sold the balance I own so tell me what you can about it, I was going to make out a list of questions but will just enclose the list Dave made if you can fix it up to suit your own taste and I shall wait here to hear from you hoping you can slip it in on something and not interfere.

[2519] is pretty good only terrible lonely. I have been away two months looking after father he has been very bad but better now I shall do my best to see you soon as possible & hoping we can again get to gether on something worth while, I am

B3. 5/28/36 [1180]‘s ltr. to W. S. Mitchell:

Mr. W. S. Mitchell, 32 Terrace Road, Medford, Massachusetts Dear Sir:

Confirming my conversation with you of May 23-24 in regard to sale of Tome Grant in Valencia County, New Mexico, compromising one lease of 42,625 acres and one lease of 25,000 acres and 5 Government Permit totaling 12,500 acres, I will sell as follows:

Purchaser to enter into a definite contract within two weeks to agree to drill one well to a depth of 3,000 feet and one well to a depth of 5,000 feet within a reasonable time but commencing within 90 days of date of such definite contract, and shall accord me the north east quarter section of each section so transferred in said contract on the basis that these first two wells are to be drilled, free to me, on tracts of 160 acres each and I to have a 1/4 interest in each of said 160 acre tracts and the well drilled thereon.

I will give the purchaser 30 days after entering into the above mentioned definite contract within which time to inspect property, examine titles, etc. On or before the expiration of this 30 day period, the purchaser is to notify me, by registered mail addressed to Albuquerque, New Mexico, of the acceptance or rejection of the terms set forth in said definite contract. If the terms of said contract are accepted, purchaser is to deposit in the First National Bank of Albuquerque, New Mexico the sum of $2500.00 in cash, or a bond of like amount, as a guarantee that a well will be spudded in within the following 60 day period and when said well is spudded in, the deposit and/or bond shall be returned.

I am further to retain ten thousand acres, where ever I may select it upon which I am to have rights only to the production which I may develop in the Mancos Shale, found at or around 2,000 feet. I am further excluding such tracts as I have already sold or contracted to sell covering approximately from 5,000 to 6,000 acres.

In the event you submit a contract to me within the time limit of two weeks herein mentioned, addressing me at Albuquerque, New Mexico, I will execute it and return it to you, provided of course, that the contract conforms to the conditions outlined above.
