This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 20th day of December, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1196], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:30 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, if there would be the persistent and consistent use of the Elliot applications for the prostate disturbance, and a consistency in keeping better eliminations, we would find much bettered conditions for this body.

4. We would insist upon applying these, if there would be had the better forces.

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) Would use of Thermalaid Instrument made at Steubenville, Ohio, benefit my condition? (A) As we find, the use of the Elliot application for the conditions, as just indicated, would be much more preferable. These may be obtained locally, or in Birmingham either.

7. (Q) What causes, and what may be done for, soreness in pelvic area, hips, legs, and shooting rheumatic soreness in various parts of body? (A) As indicated, these are all from a prostate disturbance.

8. (Q) Stiffness in lower back? (A) Prostate pressures upon the nerves, and the inflammation and disturbance produced by same.

9. Do as has been outlined. We are through for the present.

R1. 2/10/40 P.S. - I am still suffering - at times a great deal. I tried the Elliott applicator, but it did not help me. Last x-ray I had taken of my colon showed it very spastic in the descending portion. I have mucous colitis. Am on a diet now, and hope to make some progress. I shall write you later about this.

R2. 3/19/40 Dr. Smith’s report to Dr. Buresch:

HUBBARD HOSPITAL Montgomery, Ala.

To Dr. Buresch:

X-Ray of gall bladder - [1196]

Flat plate reveals a shadow in region of gall bladder, and there are some very faint shadows within what is interpreted as gall bladder shadow that resembles soft calculi. After taking gall bladder dye: First film made at 13 hours. There is a very small concentration noted in gall bladder. The major portion of dye is demonstrated in intestinal tract. 15 hours. - Concentration is practically the same as at 13 hours. 17 hours, after taking fatty meal. - There is practically no dye in gall bladder. With the shadow that is demonstrated, which has the appearance of soft calculi, and such a small amount of dye being absorbed, is interpreted as gall bladder disease with soft calculi.

R3. 4/9/40 Dr. Smith’s report to Dr. Buresch:

Montgomery, Ala.

To Dr. Buresch:

G.I. Series made for [1196] Fluoroscopic examination. - Esophagus was observed, throughout its entire length, which appeared to be normal. Barium on entering the stomach rapidly passed to pyloric area. The rugi were demonstrated, which appeared to be normal. There was no filling defect noted on lesser or greater curvatures. Peristaltic waves were normal. Cap filled readily, which was smooth in outline. It was also freely movable on palpation and no pain complained of over cap.

Films. - Stomach was demonstrated, which was smooth in outline. Second and third portions of duodenum and jejunum were demonstrated, which appeared to be normal. 5-hour file. - Stomach is entirely empty. There is a small portion of barium remaining within ileum. Cecum, ascending, transverse and descending colon are demonstrated. Cecum and ascending are well filled out and smooth in outline. Transverse and descending reveal a spasticity. 24-hour film. - There is a small amount of barium demonstrated throughout entire length of colon. Appendix was demonstrated, which is incompletely filled. There is also a spasticity noted in transverse and descending colon. Normal stomach and small intestine. Spasticity in transverse and descending colon.

R5. 4/22/40 EC’s letter to [1196]:

Dear Mr. [1196]-

Have just returned from a two weeks stay in N.Y. City - and open meeting on the 15th, quite a nice meeting big crowd just hope we did something to help those who came to see us.

Thank you for the report, still think from the experience of others you can do something about the condition besides an operation - would suggest you give it a thorough try.

Friends of ours have recently moved to … - in fact Miss [288]‘s brother [391] and his wife [934] and boy [1208] - the boy a little fellow is the one that I wish you go see - think you and Mrs. […] will find him worth knowing - see him then will tell you an interesting story that you will wish to follow up am sure. The address is … Let me know about it won’t you. And can we be of help - just call on me.

R6. 4/27/40 [1196]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Your letter of the 22nd inst. Certainly glad to hear from you and to learn that your stay in N.Y. City was pleasant. I do hope those you gave physical readings for may be cured.

I called on Mrs. [934], … St., this city, and met the little boy. Now tell me the story, please. I am sure it must be interesting.

The Ouija board has quit talking to me. I can’t account for it. I had such remarkable contact for several months.

Yes, it is a most stubborn physical condition that I have had to endure, with other troubles quite as unpleasant, for a number of years. I want to run up there to see you all, but finances have been rotten with me. My wife and I both had the flu recently, quite a severe attack for each of us, but my wife had the worst time, for both of her ears abscessed. Had to have her taken to the hospital. I felt so sorry for her. Had to have two doctors and another, an ear, eye, nose and throat specialist, with her. Had one doctor with me. Our drug bill was heavy. This in addition to my trials and expense with X-rays, gall bladder, colon, etc. Then, had to have my wife’s teeth worked on, and must have mine filled in a few days.

Thank you for your kind offer of further help. I just dislike to be an imposition on you, but I value your readings. I would give anything to get rid of my physical troubles anyhow, if I had the “anything” to give. Perhaps things will eventually come my way. I shall greatly appreciate your prayers.

Enjoyed meeting Mrs. [934] and her little fellow. She seems much interested in psychic matters. I had to sit down and tell her all about various seances I have attended, what I saw and heard, etc., about my Ouija board experiences, etc., etc. Did not meet Mr. [391], as he was not at home, but his wife says he is deeply interested in such things. She surely was appreciative of your readings and help for her little boy.

R7. 4/29/40 EC’s letter to [1196]:

Dear Mr. [1196]-

Have yours of the 27th - and will try and answer you at once. Glad that you went to see our boy - the [1208] boy, for we are all very very fond of him here, and expect great things for him some day - for this is the story. The information insists that he was Thomas Jefferson, in his last incarnation, and will have much to do with shaping the policies of this land again, - provided of course that he has the proper training in the formative years of his experience here, so every one that meets that child that has any conception of GOD’S plan with man has a real opportunity. Therefore was anxious that you know him, for am sure you wish to see and aid in seeing God’s plan work in the affairs of man. Personally have had many experiences with the child that has convinced me, know they are not proofs for any one else but knowing what you are looking for is one thing and finding it is quite another that I know, but you with your abilities - can am sure with a little patience have much of the same experience as I. And hope you will take the time - and are interested enough to make a try.

Now for yourself. Listen Mr. [1196], won’t you give this a good honest try for me - take three evenings a week for several weeks - take what ever days are most convenient for you - but don’t do it one time and leave off the next time but do it for at least three weeks, but each evening that you choose to do it put a castor oil pack over you Liver and gall duct area. That means have at least three thicknesses of flannel - soak it in castor oil - not just pour over, ring out and put over that area. Have cloth large enough to cover the most of the abdomen - put on warm put plenty of cloths and a piece of oil cloth over same - for it is messy - then put Electric pad on and keep it just as hot as you can stand it for an hour. After each three times of using it - take a table spoon of Olive oil. You will get rid of that trouble, even pass the stones or the obstruction in the duct. Now please give this an honest try - it will help could tell you of at least five or more cases this has been given for - and each time it has kept the body from having an operation where it was said they would have to have such.

Yes - a very fine meeting in N.Y. big crowd, lots of interest - and many very lovely people came to see me.

Let me hear from you - and do by all means give the suggestion a fair honest try - don’t do it unless you are going to give it the full time else it may only stir up more trouble - it is a messy thing to do but feel sure you can get rid of the trouble - and your physical condition will be much better.

Observe the suggestions formally given as to diet during the try - let it say be every other day not every day - but will sure bring relief try it.

R8. 5/4/40 [1196]‘s to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Your letter of April 29th. Thanks so much for the suggestion about using castor oil pack and taking olive oil. I shall try this. The Dr. says it will likely help me. It is, as you say, messy.

I went up again to see Mr. [391] and Mrs. [934] and the boy, [1208]. I can, I think, detect some traits he has which are not exactly usual with boys his age, and I intend to give him more study. His father and mother told me some things about him, too. They are much interested in psychic matters, and want to attend some of our seances. I shall arrange this.

By the way, Hugh Lynn probably told you that I had written him the Ouija board will not talk to me any more. Do you think it will do so ever again? I can’t account for it stopping - it just abruptly did so, and not a word will it spell to me now.

I am somewhat better under present treatment from this German woman doctor (M.D.) [Buresch?] - not so sore as I was before starting with her. You have no idea how much I have suffered, and the doctors did me no good at all. She is very anxious to see another reading by you, but I simply can’t spare the money. She says in Germany she was witness to some wonderful diagnoses and treatments by psychics.

Well, I am trusting in God. I have tried so hard to live right. I do believe He will finally cure me.

Just wish I could run up there for two or three days, and perhaps I can do that soon. It always does me good to talk to you. Do you contemplate going off anywhere this month? That is, if I put out up there, will I find you at home? Trip would not cost me much - no R. R. fare except for berth on sleeper each way, going and returning, incidental expenses, meals en route there and returning, with hotel or boarding house expense at Va. Beach for two or three days.

R9. 5/6/40 EC’s letter to [1196]:

Believe it is the experience of every one, Mr. [1196], that they out grow as it were the Ouija board, and either do automatic writing or some other form of phenomena, or has been my experience - for one should grow in Psychic experiences as in every thing else - for is it not given - “We grow in Grace and Knowledge of God.” And if these manifestations are not of HIM neither of us would wish to have any thing to do with it, but we do grow all of us. Don’t then regret the stopping but seek to know how He would manifest now.

Thanking you and hoping to see and hear from you again soon. Please remember me to the Boy [1208]. Does he remember me.

R10. 5/22/40 [1196]‘s letter to EC:

PERSONAL

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I am not getting along well at all. I enclose ten dollars, and when you get back to Va. Beach please assign a reading date and time for my physical reading. I should like for it to be Saturday afternoon, 25th inst, between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., E.S.T. or between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. E.S.T. You can just wire me collect. During the reading I will be at home, … St., this city. The new name of this street (lately given it) is …, at … I have to go out of town next week.

Please have following questions asked:

Is the treatment of Dr. Buresch, German woman doctor, going to cure me? What part of it is the most important? Are the injections she is giving me near hips going to help me? I don’t know what the injections are.

She is requiring me to take every morning early - first, two to three tablespoonfuls of olive oil, then, immediately after that, a glass of hot water, with a half teaspoonful of Carlsbad salts in it. Then I have to get in bed and lie on my right side thirty minutes.

I am, in addition, taking a tonic after meals she prescribed for me.

I am, three times each week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, taking the castor oil pack and heat application, with a tablespoonful of olive oil after it that you wrote me about.

Please go into my condition thoroughly, as Dr. Buresch wants to read it. If it says anything she would not like, I’ll not show it to her.
