This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of May, 1927, in accordance with request made by Mr. [2671] and Mr. [943].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 12:00 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. Monroe County, Florida.
-
GC: You will have before you the treasure as has been located in readings by you from Broad Creek Channel, Monroe County, Florida. Diligent search as been made for this treasure. Many stakes have been driven as markers. Will you tell us which one of these stakes, or probes, is nearest the hidden treasure, and how this stake is marked, and how treasure may be located from same? You will answer any questions I might ask you.
-
EC: Yes, we find that treasure as has been located still IS, and is where same has been located.
-
Now, diligent search has been made for same, without success, and many stakes have been driven that there may be a location made from stakes driven.
-
These locations will not be made from stakes.
-
The conditions as have surrounded and as do surround the search for this treasure, have brought about many complications in the minds and in the actions of individuals.
-
The information has been given as to how this treasure might be located by two individuals [[943] and [2671]‘s son] who might make their minds as an open book and correlate information as given concerning the location of the treasure.
-
To give stakes as have been marked, these may be given - but is the mind of individuals seeking treasure or testing the authority of those who would assist in giving information to be beneficial to individuals?
-
Information as is being given should be sought - not seek to test, nor to try, the powers that be, else we find condemnation is brought to one’s self through that very act of the creation of contradictory conditions within the mind, the heart, and the purpose of individuals that would trust - for, as has been given and said of old, “A stiff-necked people seek a sign which shall not be given unto them,” is as applicable in the present conditions as it was in and among those seeking that they might test and give to self satisfaction as to the source and supply of information concerning things seen and unseen.
-
Now, we have given the information aright, and when same was followed aright the result would be satisfactory to all that seek to do that which is right and just before those forces as would bring aid, help, understanding, strength, and the correct division of the words of truth, which are of life - for in application does one find understanding; not in questioning as to whether the source is or is not endowed with the super normal conditions of an unseen world. This as a sign to such:
-
Mend thine ways, oh men, lest a greater fault overtake thee in thine own household, and in thine acts in and before men, and the good as is thought in thine heart turns to gall, and the good be evil spoken of that would seek thine undoing - for the heart of man is - of MAN - ever ready to seek evil, and the heart of him that would declare the glory of the Creative Forces are in that manner of APPLYING that already obtained.
-
Then seek first to make thine own heart aright within thee, that the ways of the Lord may be known and shown in thine actions, one with another, for he that would do good must first make SELF aright, and in thine own self find that at-oneness with Him; for well has it been spoken, that “My spirit beareth witness with THY spirit,” and unless that bearing of witness is perfect within thine own self, then thou shalt find thine own heart troubled, and the day of reckoning is near at hand.
-
Repent, then, thou, of thine worldly understanding, and seek to do that as is well pleasing unto Him who gave himself a ransom for him who would seek to do as was given, “Love the Lord, thy God, and thy neighbor as thyself.”
-
We are through.

R1. 5/5/27 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [943]:
My dear Mr. [943]-
As you will see from the [reading] [which was enclosed], we had the opportunity to get in some questions on Broad Creek Channel. We were all quite a bit surprised to get what we did, but I’m sending it to you just as we received it. I don’t know as I would dare make any comment on same, for it is evident that I talk and think quite differently when asleep from what I do when awake.
A copy of this, of course, has been sent to Mr. [2671], and I am quite anxious to know what, if anything, you all are able to make out of it.
More and more it grows on me that I am really tempting my own abilities and jeopardizing the real good that I may be able to give humanity, by attempting anything outside of the purely physical and mental aspect of man’s being. What do you think of it? I know you have given the work considerable thought, especially since we were there in person, and I would appreciate - if you could find the opportunity to do so - your writing me at length just what your reactions have been in respect to the phenomena as you have viewed it. Don’t be afraid of hurting my feelings, for you know I don’t profess to understand it - and as I told some people yesterday afternoon - the only way I can judge in the results that it brings to the lives, the minds, and the hearts of individuals who contact it from time to time. Now, I know your mind and life is worth while, and I’m anxious to know just what you make out of it.
Let me hear from you whenever you have the opportunity.
I’m glad to say that that we are all quite well, and keeping quite busy.
With kindest personal regards and best wishes from all to all,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R2. 5/11/27 Mr. [943] requested an oil well reading which EC was too busy to get.
R3. 6/1/27 He wired for 1279-4 on Lostman’s River.
R4. 12/24/27 Xmas telegram: “Spent two days at Broad Creek Channel but found nothing. Intend to try again sometime after first of year.”
R5. 1/6/28 Mr. [943]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I interested some other parties to furnish boat and expenses to make trip to Broad Creek channel to make another search for the buried treasure there. Of course they are skeptical and it is for their information that I would like to have another reading on the trip which we made down there to convince them of the power of the unseen forces. Have prepared a question which you may use if you think proper and if you think that you should not use it there will be no hard feelings on my part, as you know my faith is still as strong as ever and with no intention on my part to test the powers that be. The question which I prepared is as follows:
“You have before you the buried treasure near Broad Creek channel, Monroe County, Florida, which you have had before and certain individuals who made search for treasure on the 17th and 18th of December, 1927, and failed to locate it. You will give the names of the individuals and full details of their actions from time they left Miami Dade County, Florida, until they returned and if any one of the party was near the treasure and if possible give direction and number of feet from certain 12 inch square block found buried about six inches under mangrove roots by one of the party and should these same parties make another search for the treasure.”
One of the party is in position to obtain boat and other expenses to make as many trips down there as we think necessary and the above question is for the purpose of convincing them that what I am telling them is true according to information obtained from the Forces through you. Upon receipt from you of another reading it is our intention to go down there for several days to make a thorough search for the treasure. If we should find it, I would want the forces to give reading as to what disposition to make of the money and I have so instructed the parties that this would be done in the event we found it. I would want to pay [2671] for all expense that he incurred with reference to same and I think that the forces would so direct. The square block was found where we made many trips over the same ground and it is possible that we have covered the ground where the treasure is many times too. I believe it is there and we will find it if we keep at it. Weather conditions are good now for doing work down there and will be good for the next several weeks and if you can get the above reading in soon wire me if you obtain any information that is good.
