This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of May, 1927, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [2671].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Florida.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [2671] of …, Florida, and the dream this body had on the date which I will give you. You will give the interpretation and lesson to be gained from this dream, as I read it to you.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [2671].
-
Dreams, as we see, and as we have given, are the action of the subconscious forces of the body, manifested through that state when the conscious forces of the physical body are subjugated; or are the effect or action of physical conditions within the body; or are the combined effect of a highly developed consciousness of the body mind, with the correlation of experiences of an entity through its various experiences in the material plane.
-
In THIS body these are as LESSONS ever, for the body may gain the better understanding of those conditions [which are] is presented to the body through such experiences. For, as given, the mental forces and the subconscious forces of this entity, [2671], are highly developed, through the experiences in the material plane.
-
Ready for dream.
-
(Q) Morning of May 6, 1927. I was standing in the back yard of my home - had my coat on. I felt something inside the cloth on the cuff of my left hand coat sleeve. I worked it out, but it was fastened in the cloth and broke off as it came out, leaving part in. It proved to be a cocoon and where broke a small black spider came out. The cocoon was black and left a great number of eggs - small ones - on my coat sleeve, which I began to break and pull off. The spider grew fast and ran away, speaking plain English as it ran, but that I do not remember, except that it was saying something about its MOTHER. The next time I saw it, it was a large black spider which I seemed to know was the same one grown up, almost as large as my fist - had a red spot on it, otherwise was a deep black. At this time it had gotten into my house and had built a web all the way across the back inside the house and was comfortably watching me. I took a broom, knocked it down and out of the house, thinking I’d killed it, but it did more talking at that time. I remember putting my foot on it and thought it was dead. The next time I saw it, it had built a long web from the ground on the outside of the house in the back yard, near where I first got it out of my sleeve - and it was running up toward the eaves fast when it saw me. I couldn’t reach it but threw my straw hat in front of it and cut the web and spider fell to the ground, talking again, and that time I hacked it to pieces with my knife. (A) In this there is see the emblematical conditions of those forces as are being enacted in the life of this body. And, as is seen, both the spider and the character of same are as warnings to the body as respecting the needs of the body taking a definite stand as respecting the relations of others who would in this underhand manner take away from the body those surroundings of the home - that are in the manner of being taken, unless such a stand is taken. For, as is seen, the conditions of the relations of the entity, the body, with another, as seen, are of the nature as is emblematically shown by the relations of this body with this other body; that its relations at first meant only that of the casual conditions that might be turned to an account of good, in a social and financial manner; yet, as has been seen, there has come the constant drain on the entity, not only in pocket but in the affections of the heart, and now such threaten the very foundations of the home - and, as seen, threaten to separate the body from the home and its surroundings; and unless the entity attacks this condition, cutting same out of the mind, the body, the relations, the conditions, there will come that condition that will be, as it were, as the condition as seen.
Take the warning then. Prepare self. Meet the conditions as the man, not as the weakling - and remember those duties that the body owes first to those to whom the sacred vows were given, and to whom the entity and body owes its position in every sense, and as well as the duty that is obligatory to the body or those to whom the entity, the body, should act in the sense of the defender, rather than bringing through such relations those dark underhanded sayings, as are seen, as said by that one who would undermine, as well as are being said by those whom the body may feel such relations are hidden from; yet these have grown to such extent as may present a menace to the very heart and soul of the BODY of this entity. Beware! Beware!
- We are through for the present.

R1. 5/27/27 EC’s letter to [2671]:
My dear Mr. [2671]
As you will see from the enclosed, we did finally have the opportunity to get the dream reading. You will be able to check up on this better than anyone else can, for I am, of course, not in a position to know whether this has any reference to things in your life or not - but anyway, it seems that you must make a very radical change, if the conditions are true.
I’ll certainly be very anxious to hear from you, for - as you know - we can get nothing except what the readings give.
Just as soon as I have an opportunity, I want to go into the matter of the treasure search at Broad Creek [See 1274-1— 1274-18] and Bimini [See 996-3—996-11] also. Just at the present time we are getting everything to-gether for the perfecting of our organization. I would like mighty well to have you as one of the trustees of our Association, if it is possible. We have our first organization meeting on the 4th of June. The State has granted me a charter and we are having the organization meeting on the 4th, as I said, out of which will come the first unit of our institution work. Can’t you arrange to be with us?
I’ll try and write you again just as soon as I have the opportunity. Please let us hear from you whenever you can.
With kindest personal regards from all to all,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
R2. 6/6/27 Wife [4498]‘s letter: “Mr. [2671] has not said a word to me about his reading and some way I fear he will not… He has gone to N.Y. to try and get some financing through but so far has been unsuccessful.”
R3. 7/14/27 Son […] wired for a Physical Rdg. on wife, [4496].
R4. 10/30/27 Wife’s letter: “Inasmuch as you have told me that you would treat anything and everything I told you confidential, I just want to tell you that Mr. [2671] has never returned home since he left here in May. So I am going to request you to please destroy the letters that I wrote you, and I pray you will do this, and some day I shall know the truth about this.”
R5. 11/10/27 EC’s letter to [4498]:
Dear Mrs. [4498]:
Yours of the 30th received, and I want to assure you again that everything you have said or written me will be treated in confidence, and your wishes complied with. I am sorry indeed to know such conditions exist. I wish I knew how to be of some help in the matter, and I want to assure you that if you ever feel that I can, don’t hesitate to call on me.
I am glad to know Miss [4501] has been getting along alright, and I’m in hopes that you are feeling a whole lot better yourself. We often think of and speak of meeting you all, and would be very glad to hear from you from time to time.
I’m glad to say we are all fairly well, and all ask to be remembered very kindly to you.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R6. 10/3/30 Mr. [2671]‘s son’s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
A voice from the dead! Well, very near that. My intentions have been to write but I never have.
Business here has declined ever since the boom stopped. We are out of the … [See 2671-3] property now and are taking the case to the Supreme Court. I don’t know what the outcome will be.
Do you ever hear from [943], [4825] or Mr. [287]? You know after three years of thinking over, at various times, the information on Broad Creek Channel I don’t believe we were in the right place I think we should have been further East and I won’t be satisfied until I have a chance to search there. I haven’t Reading No. 7 on Broad Creek would you send me a copy of it and if any have been made since No. 8 I would appreciate a copy of them. Some time when I get time and some money I’m going down there and try to follow the directions as to the channels and I believe I will be successful.
Hope you are enjoying good health.
Give my best regards to Mrs. Cayce and also Miss Davis if she is still with you.
Sincerely
P.S. Our boy (that you saved) is three years old this month. All well. [Copied also under 4496-1 Reports]
R7. 10/17/30 EC’s letter to Mr. [2671]‘s son:
Mr. […] …, Florida
Dear […]
I was indeed glad to have yours of the 3rd, and to hear a voice from the past - if not from the dead. We have spoken of you, and of all you people there, and have wondered just how conditions had developed. I certainly hope that they will come out in the proper way and manner, and in a satisfactory way to you all.
I often hear from Mr. [287]. He is in …, and is back in the coal business in some way. Indirectly, through him, we have heard from the [4825]‘s - who are now in Washington State - all doing very well.
Peculiarly enough, in the same mail with your letter I had a note from [943] - the first I’ve had for many months. He is still working in the oil business in Kentucky.
It seems rather strange, […] to us - after all these years
- that you should again be questioning about the Broad Creek; for, if I remember correctly, in some of the information in the first readings regarding Broad Creek it gave that YOU would be the one - or SHOULD be the one - to make the explorations, and I’m feeling that you will yet discover the treasure. We are having a copy of the #7 made and will forward it to you in the next mail. I’m just hoping it will all come out right.
I’m certainly glad to have your line about the boy, and to know that you are all well. I’m sure he is getting to be quite an interesting young man now. I would like to have a snap of him if you have one.
Please remember us all to you wife [4496], to your mother [4498], and the rest of the people there.
With kindest personal regards and best wishes, I am
Sincerely,
EC:GD
R8. 1/1/34 Mr. [2671]‘s son’s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Dad PASSED ON Dec. 7, Thurs. about 1-P.M. I am truly sorry you couldn’t help [EC was ill when wire request came.]
because I have a lot of faith in your information. He started with chills and fever and then to kidney poison [See 2671-1] and then double pneumonia and died a horrible death.
Mama [4498] called me the Sun. evening he was taken and as soon as I heard what was wrong I was afraid he would not get well and I told the nurses at the hospital that, at the same time wishing and praying I was wrong. The doctors told me he had no chance but I feel they did all they knew to do.
Mr. Cayce He is gone in as much as this business world is concerned and I wonder if you could, in your busy time give me a READING as what to do, when, and how, and what with, I want to farm tomatoes* but can’t seem to get the money if you can give the guidance now maybe I can help you later on. However, please accept my sincerest wishes to you & yours for a happy 1934.
- [GD’s note: Mr. [2671] had many interests, one was raising prize tomatoes, which he served to us when we had dinner at his house in 2/27.]
Background
Background
B1. 7/26/26 See 2671-2 in re whereabouts of Mrs. [3828], “girl friend”.
B2. 4/19/27 His wife [4498] wrote Mrs. Cayce that she had discovered her husband was having an affair with Mrs. [3828], and requested that EC give her a reading telling her how to stop it.
B3. 4/27/27 Mr. [2671] wrote asking EC to find a valuable platinum and diamond wrist watch which Mrs. [3828] had lost while visiting her sister in N.Y. State.
B4. 4/28/27 EC’s letter to Wife, Mrs. [4498]: “Mrs. Cayce gave me yours of the 19th to read…
I want to thank you very much for your expressions of faith and confidence in the work that I am trying to do. While we ourselves do not understand it fully, but here are such a great number of people that do receive such wonderful results from following out the suggestions given, that we are compelled to believe there is a great deal more in it than we are able to understand.
Now, regarding the reading you request. I am sorry indeed to know that such a condition has arisen in such a wonderful family. I don’t know that I ever in my life met people that I was more drawn to than I was to every member of your family, and especially to Mr. [2671] himself. Again I have to say, I can’t understand how such a thing could be, but we DO know that such things have happened and DO happen almost every day. I have made it a rule, Mrs. [4498] to try and steer clear of such conditions with my work. However, I am making an appointment for a reading for Mr. [2671] that will possibly throw a great deal of light on the subject. If you read his Life Reading, you will possibly remember there was considerable emphasis given on some entanglements and conditions that might arise in his life in the year 1928. He has asked me recently to see if I could tell him something about this. I’m trying to explain this to you, so you may know that I don’t want anyone to get the idea I am trying to take advantage of any information anyone may give me, or have given me, regarding what may be given in such a reading - but I’m just hoping and praying that there will be something given him in this reading that will help him get himself straightened out. Then, after this is given, if you feel like you would like to ask some of these questions as you have in this, and if you still feel I can possibly be of help, I’ll try to do it. I do not want to give anything that might cause a hardship, or that might cause misunderstanding, but I want to help if it is possible to do so. This reading will be made for him sometime in the next two weeks, or such matter. I am hoping, of his own accord, that he will show it to you, and then we’ll try to make the arrangements for the other one if you so desire. I can imagine something of the trial, something of the sorrow, that must be in your heart and mind from the knowledge of such a condition arising. I assure you anything and everything you may say will certainly be treated in all confidence and honor, and I am in hopes that you won’t be too quick or too rash about anything. I’m sure it is not your nature, and I’m sure you do not want to condemn or treat anyone unjustly.
So, trusting that you will be patient for just a little bit, and hoping and praying that the powers that be will work out all of this to the best interest for everyone concerned, and with kindest personal regards to each and everyone, I am”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
B5. 5/2/27 EC’s letter to [2671]:
Mr. [2671] …, Florida
Dear Mr. [2671]
I have yours of the 27th. Possibly you will feel like I strain at a gnat and swallow a camel, but not since my experience in trying to tell who committed the murder in Canada have I undertaken to locate articles that may have been lost or stolen, and while I would like very much to try and help out in this matter, I feel like my experience at that time was such that I am doing an injustice to myself, and to those whom I may be able to help, in giving readings on their physical conditions - so I will have beg to be excused at this time.
Possibly in your study of the phenomena, the attitude I feel I have to take on this will be something you will want to think and study about - but I do not feel that I can afford to jeopardize myself and the interests of others in undertaking a thing of this nature, after the experience I have had.
I certainly am in hopes that the lady will be able to locate this, and without any trouble - but I cannot see my way clear to undertake anything along this line at this time.
I haven’t had the opportunity to get anything on Broad Creek [[1274] series] any more, and I am hoping that the time as has been set for the other reading is satisfactory, if you still desire it - and, as I said, if there are any more questions you would like to ask, I shall be glad for you to do so.
With kindest personal regards and best wishes from all, I am Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:GD
B6. 5/4/27 EC gave 1274-11 on Broad Creek Channel.
B7. 5/12/27 [2671]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce,
Your letter May 4th & 11th reading on Broad Creek Channel came and I have gone carefully into same.
I am disappointed in as much as we have tried to work out every direction given before as to present creek and geographical location without success and I see no reason, if the treasure is there and if there is no objection to our finding it, why positive and specific directions can not be given to us. When we go and search out locations given without success there is only one thing we can do - that is place markers and ask which is NEAREST!
I have financed every trip made to Bimini and Long Key up to the time Mr. [943] went into business for himself and paid the salaries and expenses of all concerned except Mr. [287] & yourself and I feel that I have made an honest and sincere effort to carry out your instructions and if there is a super spirit giving this information there is no reason, that I can visualize, that would prevent positive and direct information. If I am wrong personally or if I am doing wrong or if I am not desirable for any reason - in this search I will gladly drop out of it - and I believe this is the sentiment of everyone connected with it. This being true why not give us light - say who should go out.
If you understand that enough was said on this when it was suggested that […] [son] & [943] get their heads together, then I will stay out as I have no desire to do anything that will interfere with the success of the search, or I could search alone and separately from them. Yet in either case more definite information is POSITIVELY NECESSARY.
Please consider this as you think best - I assure you that I only try to give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism with a view to final success and not for any other purpose. The greatest assurance of the correctness of the information given would be in actually finding a treasure.
Please let me take up another subject for your consideration and for interpretation by a READING if necessary. On the morning of May 6th (last week) I had a dream as follows - I was standing in the back yard of my home - had my coat on.
Strange - It was a blue black very black with a red spot and always seemed to be trying to get into the house. It seemed to have HUMAN KNOWLEDGE and SPEAK ENGLISH.
Please don’t think I am any MORE silly than I am - you remember our talk while driving and there we discussed dreams. So if you have an opportunity and can tell me anything I will appreciate it. If you can’t then there is no harm. I know you have some silly question and please don’t consider this if you haven’t the time or desire or if you do not consider it important. The fact is it seemed to mean something and I did not feel that it meant anything so very bad.
I am always glad to hear from you. I don’t write about oil [[5741] series] because I feel that Mr. [943] keeps you posted on that and there is no new development at Bimini yet. I don’t know when I’ve written such a long letter I know your tired of it but some way I feel better about it, after writing you.
I will always be glad to hear from you.
I have not written about the questions on my Life Reading and what would happen in “28” but think a general further reading on that would be what I want. Thanking you and with kindest regards I am
Yours sincerely, [2671]
