GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1309].
-
As we find, there are general improvements in the physical forces of the body. While there is not as radical a change wrought in the hearing as expected, we find that even HERE the body is much more sensitive to sound.
-
While those applications suggested have been FAIRLY well done, there has NOT been the breaking up of the lesions in the Eustachian tube area; and this as we find will be necessary if there is to be decided improvement as we have indicated there should be for the body.
-
As to the general applications for the acute pains that occur at times in limbs, shoulders and portions of the body, - there needs to be the keeping of overactive eliminations generally through the periods when the disturbing forces in the Eustachian tube are being broken up.
-
The very fact that the body becomes more sensitive to such irritations indicates that changes are taking place.
-
Then, as we find, - under whatever direction or where these may be carried out in the best manner, these we would do.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would you advise beginning new course of treatments in … now, under Dr. Bebout, [Esther M. Bebout, D.O.] or spending October at Va. Beach and carry out treatments under Dr. M. L. Richardson? (A) If it is more convenient in …, and there can be those corrections made by Bebout, have it done there. If this is not practical, then consider the other.
-
(Q) Any new procedure to follow concerning osteopathic treatments? (A) As just outlined, there needs to be the breaking up of the lesions in the Eustachian tube area.
-
(Q) How often should the osteopathic treatments be taken? (A) There should be, as indicated, the CORRECTIONS of the lesions! THAT is operative forces by the fingers, see? This will be about two to three months apart, depending upon the RESPONSE the body makes and as to how well the operation is done! But there needs to be, at least once or twice a week, the general treatments to prevent this from adhering again and to overcome those conditions as we have indicated. THIS should be better outlined BY the one administering the treatments, than asking foolish questions!
-
(Q) Would high irrigations be advisable? How many and how often? (A) These are very well, and keep down those tendencies for accumulations through the abdominal area. They may be given once a month, or oftener as enemas if need be.
-
(Q) Is it still necessary to use the Radio-Active Appliance? (A) This is preferable, as changes are wrought. This acts as an equalizer, and thus is beneficial to the body.
-
(Q) Should I continue to take daily grape juice? (A) If there is the desire to reduce the weight, this is well.
-
(Q) Any suggestions regarding diet? (A) Keep away from those things of the high calorie content, or that are not easily assimilated.
-
(Q) Should I take either orange juice, grapefruit juice or tomato juice? If so, at what time of day and how much? (A) If this does not agree with the body, it is not well to take same. However, as we find, if taken occasionally - a small quantity of either or all of them at various times - through the day, as the activities of the body are carried on - they should be helpful to the body.
-
(Q) Would Adiron or any other tonic be advisable to take when bad weather sets in? If so, how much and when? (A) This will depend upon how well the body responds to those applications suggested. If there are the tendencies for the easily contracting cold, or for the shivery feelings, Adiron would be very well. If and when taken, take only one or two pellets each day, AT mealtime.
-
(Q) What causes frequent quick sense of suffocating? Is it a heart condition and how can it be overcome? (A) As indicated, it is the adjustments of the specific and general nature that SHOULD aid in equalizing this disturbance. It is the circulation between heart and liver.
-
(Q) Does liver cause any disturbance? (A) It causes some of the disturbance, as just indicated, by the inability of its activity to eliminate those general poisons and excesses created by the activities through the body. Thus the needs for the stimulations through the osteopathic manipulative measures, as well as the general diet of the eliminating natures.
-
(Q) How overcome occasional violent desire for sweets? (A) Just refrain from partaking of same! Of course, if desired, it can be satisfied with honey.

We are through with this Reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/3/40 Letter from Mrs. [1158] to GD: ”…Mrs. [1309] thinks she would like to have you give Dr. Richardson her four Readings, and ask him if he will take her for a few weeks the end of October, during which time he could give her the ‘finger surgery’ ear treatment. Then he could write out how he wished the osteopath here to carry on with Mrs. [1309] until the end of December, when she could return, again, for a week and so on. (She could go down again at Easter.)…
“I hope Dr. Richardson will feel happy to fit into some such program. If he does, could you find some inexpensive room for Mrs. [1309], at Virginia Beach? She will just have butter-milk for breakfast, and fruit for supper, and go out for one cooked meal per day, so it should not cost her a great deal to live at Va. Beach. How much (please, ask Dr. Richardson) would he charge for his treatments?…
“Since Schoelles did not succeed Mrs. [1309] feels she would like to go to someone who has formerly succeeded in cases like hers…”
R2. 10/10/40 Letter from GD to Mrs. [1158]: Dr. Richardson agreed to take [1309]‘s case provided his examination agreed with Reading. [GD reserved room for [1309] at Beach and arranged other details of [1309]‘s stay. Copy of letter in [1158]‘s folder.]
R3. 10/15/40 Mrs. [1158]‘s letter: “Mrs. [1309] has decided to have a finger surgery tr. from a specialist in Cleveland [R. D. Vorhees, D.O., Cleveland Osteopathic Hospital & Clinic] this coming Sat. Oct. 19th. He examined her today and said he thought it would take 6 tr. to break down the adhesions, and he would like to give her a tr. every wk. to ten days apart. We told Dr. Bebout about your work and she was very sympathetic and cooperative. She sent us to Dr. Vorhees for the finger surgery (We have not told him about the Cayce work). We feel it is right, after this week’s Saturday operation to ask a few questions thru Mr. Cayce as to whether Dr. Vorhees should give more surgery treatments, and if so how soon, or whether Mrs. [1309] should wait until the middle of Dec., or after Christmas, and go to Dr. Richardson in Va. for 10 days.”
