This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of August, 1941, in accordance with request made the by the daughter - Miss [852], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading At home, 6:10 to 6:15 P. M. Eastern Daylight Savings Time. …, Ky.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, giving the causes of same, also suggestions for help and relief; answering the questions that may be asked.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1312].

3. As we find, there is a great deal of disturbance with the digestive and assimilative system, produced by the conditions existent in the liver and gall duct area.

4. The upsetting of the stomach is from regurgitation, produced by the stoppages in the area where the jejunum and the pylorus connect.

5. This is producing some little temperature, a quickness in the pulsation, nausea, and an irregularity in heart. Naturally the kidneys become involved, and this is producing poisons in the system.

6. Also there are tendencies for the loss or lapse of consciousness.

7. These as we find are the conditions and the causes.

8. If the temperature continues, use ice - over the liver area, and have a surgeon make examinations.

9. Give a colonic irrigation, using the high tube; not just an ordinary tube, but a colon tube, see? for this must empty the colon, so that there will be a reaction of the peristaltic movement. In the first water use a heaping teaspoonful of salt and a level teaspoonful of soda. In the last quart and a half of water put a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline.

10. If there is the response from the colonic irrigation, - then give the Castor Oil Packs - for at least an hour or hour and a half; and massage the body - especially in the area from between the shoulders to the 9th dorsal.

11. Then give the combination to settle the stomach; at least a teaspoonful about an hour or two hours apart, of this compound:

12. To 1 ounce of Lime Water, add - in the order named:

Cinnamon Water…1 ounce, Iodide of Potassium, 10% solution…10 drops, Bromide of Potassium, 10% solution…10 drops.

13. Follow this with half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and a few drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin stirred together in half a glass of water.

14. Necessarily, this should be followed with a mineral salts. As we find, Sal Hepatica as an alkalizer also would be helpful to use in this respect.

15. Do that.

16. Ready for questions.

17. (Q) If there is no response to the colonic irrigation, should the Castor Oil Packs still be used? (A) If there is the continuation of temperature, call the surgeon, see? If there is the reaction, this may not be necessary. Of course, there will be SOME reaction from the colonic - hence necessarily use the Oil Packs afterwards.

18. (Q) Should any stimulant or nourishment be given? (A) Do not give much of anything to eat, but that given should be that easily assimilated. Beef juice, milk may be given with a little burnt whisky in same; that with egg and milk, and burnt whisky would be very well.

19. (Q) Any further advice? (A) We would do these. This is a lot to do for at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours! But do these.

20. We are through for the present.

R1. 8/13/41 Daughter [852]‘s letter:

Dear Edgar:

It was certainly nice of you to give the reading for Mother so promptly and I know you understand how very much I appreciated it. We received the Air Mail letter containing the reading yesterday afternoon and Aunt […] is trying to do everything stated therein. Some of it is rather hard, too, with Mother suffering so terribly and continuing to be so nauseated.

Monday night, Edgar, she woke Daddy and me up at two-thirty in the morning with a weird moan, and when we got to her, she was unconscious. While Daddy worked with her, I called Aunt [760] and [419] and they came immediately. I’ve never seen anyone that near death before, and Aunt […] said when she got there she thought she was nearly gone. Aunt [760] had [419] call Dr. Dade and when he got there he said it was just a “faint”, but both Aunt […] and […] said that was “no faint”. She has been getting worse ever since, and, now, is suffering night and day. All of us at home are simply “groggy” for sleep, as you can hear her moaning and groaning over the entire house - and you can imagine how well anyone could sleep, if they had a chance to do so.

There has been practically no results from the colonic irrigations, and she has been deathly sick at her stomach. However, the latter has not been as frequent yesterday afternoon and last night. She is eating nothing except liquids, that is when she eats at all for food seems to be the last thing she wants. Aunt […] has to force nearly everything she eats or drinks. She cannot sleep - day or night - and has not slept any since last Saturday night, she says.

And, one thing that is simply wearing her but is the awful pain in her left arm and shoulder, especially in the shoulder. She cannot use that arm at all, in fact, cannot even move it. She cannot lie on the left side for this reason or on her back as the pressure against the bed increases the pain. So from lying on her right side so constantly, the right hip and back is now beginning to ache but more from a tired strain than anything else, I believe. The pain is simply terrible and whether it is a neuritis condition or is caused by the toxic condition and poisons in the system I do not know. But, I do know that I have NEVER seen a person suffer like she has and is with that side. It isn’t a slight stroke, do you think? I thought of that by her not being able to use that arm.

Do you think Dr. Beard could help to alleviate that pain, or would it be advisable? The reading did not state any osteopathic treatments but did mention massaging along the back to the 9th dorsal - or something like that I remember. I wonder if she couldn’t do this? I just want to be sure that we do everything possible - and right - to help her.

Sometime in the next day or two when you can, I would appreciate your giving a check reading on Mother, for she is certainly no better and this pain is becoming more intense and prolonged at times. Aunt […] said when you did please ask the question “what is causing and can be done to eliminate the pain in left arm and shoulder”? She has had that pain, slightly, for about a year I guess thinking it was neuritis.

I’m writing this at the office and have so much work that I simply must stop and get busy. I’m so sleepy that I find it almost impossible to think and concentrate and I hope I haven’t forgotten anything in this letter that I should have said.

Will let you know if there is any decided change in her condition.
