This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of October, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1387], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1387]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, while there are many changes in the general physical forces of the body since last we had same here, all of these are not towards improvements.

4. These conditions we find existing in the present:

5. There have been congestions of long standing through the antrum, nasal passages; and in the attempts to eradicate these through the circulatory forces, and stimulating activities to same, these have tended to be removed in some ways - yet the disturbance has been rather distributed through the system.

6. Also there are pressures upon centers throughout the system, and we have a resultant effect at times - especially in periods of low pressure, atmospheric pressure - of more severe headaches, more disturbance with the organs of the sensory system, - the eyes, ears, nose, nasal passages, throat at times; and the tiredness.

7. This as we find is not of an arthritic nature, but rather neuritic tendencies; that is, the stiffness, the acute pains at times in wrist, arms, portions even of the lower limbs and through the body. These are from the poisons distributed through the system, from the breaking up of those tendencies for congestion; so that the nature of these is to become at times as a neuralgic or nerve pressure. At other times the indications are more of an inflammatory nature causing the disturbance.

8. Then, in aiding to remove these disturbances, now:

9. We would change the administrations. We would have such as Dr. Mary Miller. To be sure, these treatments in the most part would be chiropractic adjustments, but a massage with same; USING a low electrical heating current for this body. And we will find that these as combined with the White Light will prove the more helpful for the body.

10. Stimulate the centers as associate with the eliminating system; as the upper dorsal, through the upper cervical, and the muscular forces all along the cerebrospinal system.

11. Give the electrical forces in relays; that is, give them two to three periods close together, then have the reaction in the system from same - and use more massage than electricity. Then again have more of the electricity and just sufficient of the massage and reaction from corrections to aid the system to eliminate.

12. These as we find will bring the better forces for this body.

13. Ready for questions.

14. (Q) What is the condition of the kidney? (A) At times overtaxed, owing to those excesses of poisons as indicated.

15. (Q) Can the cause of the headaches be removed entirely? (A) The cause may be removed entirely. It will take a little time; it will take series - not too close together, but periods when there will be the applications and periods of rest, see?

16. (Q) How long should the periods of application and periods of rest be? (A) About three weeks of application, and about two weeks of rest.

17. (Q) What specific electrical treatment is referred to? (A) As indicated, the low heat form. This will be understood by the one making the applications. But have them made by that one suggested!

18. (Q) Will I ever regain my strength enough so that I can live a more normal life and not be eternally tired? (A) You should, if there will be the use - and the keeping of those applications suggested for the better normal balanced activities.

Do not overtax the body with the raising of the high vibrations mentally [psychic sessions?], with so much disturbance in the body.

19. (Q) Any advice regarding diet? (A) This should be well balanced, with plenty of Vitamins B-1 and G, and A and B, see?

20. We are through for the present.

R1. 10/12/40 “This time I will be a good girl and follow it to the letter.”

R2. 10/18/40 “I went to Dr. Miller on Wednesday. As luck would have it I awoke that morning with a terrific headache so she had a chance to see what I looked like when one of them was in action. She gave me a short treatment and I am to go this Wednesday for a complete examination with the White Light, and after that she will know what has to be done. I think I am going to like her very well. She has known Dr. Cappel many years and spoke very highly of him which made me feel better that my judgement of the man and his work was not wrong.

“She is a strange and interesting person herself. My mother went with me and listened when she talked with me. The first thing she said just about made my mother’s hair stand on end. It was, “We have to get you well as you have a work you came in to do this time. We doctors have lost so much in these last incarnations that we knew before and we are just about getting to the point where we are getting back to the source.”

R3. 10/28/40 “I do like Dr. Miller very well indeed. I’ve had three treatments so far. The adjustments that she gives are quite different from Dr. Cappel’s less thorough but perhaps combined with the White Light just what I need to get the proper reactions that seem necessary. Even though it will take a series of the treatments I feel that I am in the right place at last.

R4. 12/3/40 “Tomorrow I start the second series of treatments at Dr. Miller’s office having had the two-week break suggested in the reading so I wished to send the Association a report of progress to date so that the records of the case will be complete.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to stand the strain of Dr. Miller’s prices. She is having me go three times a week for three weeks. One visit comprises both the adjustment and the White Light and the other two visits just the White Light. As she charges 2.50 for each treatment that means 5.00 on the double day or $30 for the three week series. Also of the five adjustment I have had SHE has given me only two the other three taken care of by her young assistant Dr. Jacks. I am NOT criticizing their handling of the case I am just stating what is happening. As you Forces sent me there it must be right.

“To date there has been no improvement that I can see, in fact the condition seems to be aggravated, which of course, may be the reaction from the Light and the adjustment and the reason for the two-week break in the treatments. No matter what I think I’M determined to carry this through to the letter this time as you have performed miracles for years and there is no reason why one can’t happen to me if the Great Spirit is willing.

[1387]‘S REPORT OF THREE-WEEKS TREATMENT AND TWO-WEEKS BREAK. October 16, 1940 to December 4, 1940. Under Treatment With Dr. Mary Miller.

TREATMENTS CONDITIONS

10/16 Called to see Dr. Miller Terrific headache which who made appointment for following adjustment she gave Wednesday for examination. She me did not ease any. gave me slight adjustment to try to relieve headache.

10/23 Had examination with White Had slight suggestion of Light machine and Dr. Miller gave headache when I went me adjustment and White Light for treatment. Following Treatment. treatment headache became violent.

10/26 Dr. Jacks gave me adjustment and White Light.

10/30 Dr. Jacks - White Light.

11/1 Dr. Jacks - White Light.

11/2 Dr. Miller and Dr. Jacks gave me a very severe adjustment and White Light. Back very sore for week following this which was to be expected from treatment.

11/3 Headache started about 10 PM.

11/4 Awoke with headache, bad all day.

11/5 Pain still present but not so bad.

R5. 1/10/41 Letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce;

Thank you and Mrs. Cayce for your Christmas Greeting. As Ra-Ta it is quite fitting that you should choose a card bearing the imprint of the desert.

I love Tom Sugrue’s “2941”. It is a beautiful expression of faith and I have read it many times already. I have his book now but had not had time to read it.

Another treatment and rest period has rolled around and I am making my second report on the case.

I am glad to say that I seem to be able to note some signs of improvement since writing you last, primarily in the decrease in the number of periods of headaches.

About the third treatment of the second series I had an opportunity to speak to Dr. Miller and told her that I did not wish to be a pest but I was worried that the reading was not being carried out to the letter and having wasted a whole year by not having the right person before I did not wish to make that mistake again. The reading had also mentioned low heat treatments and massage, neither of which had been mentioned.

She said the reading was being followed and that it was all right for Dr. Jacks to give the adjustments as they used the same method. She said not to worry things were going along as they should, so I have to take her word for it.

I also asked about the Vitamins that had been mentioned in the reading. I had been able to locate all but B-1. She then recommended a Vitimineral product, Vitamin 2BG Complex and I had taken one bottle of those (100) to date.

The second week of the series she made a check-up on the White Light machine and found that my general vitality has risen from 84 when I came to her to 92 (normal being 96), so that indicated that something was happening for the better.

I am still acutely conscious of the pain over the kidney and during the rest period I developed a heavy cold on my lungs which has not as yet cleared up but in spite of these things I think I can definitely say that I am improved and am encouraged that progress is being made.

As before I am enclosing a separate report for the files.

12/1 to 12/9 NO HEADACHES.

12/4 Dr. Jacks - White Light.

12/10 Awoke with headache, grew steadily worse toward noon, eased up about 1 PM stayed in background all day.

12/11 Dr. Miller checked me on White Light Machine and found that general vitality had risen from 84 to 92. (96 is normal). Started to take Vitaminerals 2BG dose 1 before each meal and before retiring.

12/12 Awoke with headache left 4PM.

R6. 1/18/41 Miss [1387] referred Mrs. [2429] for a Physical Reading.

R7. 2/6/41 Love to everybody and best wishes that Mrs. Cayce continues to improve. Speaking of improvement, I asked The Master Abdullah under whose direction I work [psychically] why I did not show any improvement with all the treatments I had had all these years since I was first taken ill and he said that I thought of IMPROVEMENT as the END OF THE ROAD not the path I was travelling and that if I would think back to how far I had gone from the beginning then I could judge the amount of improvement I’d made. That I suppose is true.

R8. 2/20/41 Letter to EC:

New York City

Honorable Ra-Ta;

Enclosed is the next report on the treatments. I am in the most confused state of mind about things. What I am writing you here is, of course, “off the record”.

To date I have had 34 days treatments, which included 13 adjustments which made a double treatment for those days, at a cost of $125 and I cannot see one bit of change. That period of time without the headaches apparently was just one that I get when I take no treatment of any kind and was not due to the locating of the trouble which I had hoped. Also the pain in the kidney region has increased since October, until I am almost jittery about it for fear the condition is progressing from bad to worse.

I am at a complete loss to understand Dr. Miller’s attitude. When I get a chance to talk to her, I like her and feel she knows what she is doing but her apparent complete lack of interest in me is difficult to comprehend. She never comes near me unless I just happen to be under her feet. I have just returned from another two week break in the treatments and though she saw me she made no inquiry how I was progressing or showed any interest in the case in any way.

I don’t mean to be unreasonable but I can’t seem to understand the situation. I was so upset yesterday that I finally told Dr. Jacks that I would like to see Dr. Miller and I told her that I wondered if after this length of time I should not be able to see SOME sign of progress in some direction. She said I should and that there must be some “kink” which they had not located and she would check me again on the White light when I came in Friday. I explained to her that the reason that I was so worried was that at the same time that I was first taken ill my cousin had had an abscessed kidney too and that she had passed over from it and when my back hurt so and I thought I saw traces of blood I just got in a panic.

To be sure that it was not my eyes that might be causing the head trouble I went to a specialist yesterday and had them checked. He said that the slight correction made in the glasses would not have caused the trouble and it had an appearance of sinus to him but nothing else was wrong. I been getting scared that perhaps it might be a brain tumor. I certainly am getting myself into the nicest frame of mind about the whole thing.

Have others mentioned the rather unusual attitude found at Dr. Miller’s? The funny thing is when I talk with her I have complete confidence in her. It is certainly a strange situation. Do you suppose that I should have a check reading? This time I certainly am following directions.

Excuse me for being such a bother but you can understand my position I hope? I’ll let you know what she finds when she checks the White Light on Friday.

I have not been able to get to the library to do any more looking up of THE CAYCE FAMILY but I’ll do so as soon as I can.

I hope that Mrs. Cayce is continuing to progress.

REPORT ON THIRD SERIES OF TREATMENTS AND TWO WEEKS REST UNDER DR. MARY MILLER, January 8, 1941 to February 13, 1941.

TREATMENTS CONDITIONS

1/8 Dr. Jacks - White Light.

1/10 Dr. Jacks - White Light.

1/11 Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and White Light. Also bought another bottle of Vitamins.

1/15 Dr. Miller - Adjustment and Waked with headache White Light and Her own Machine. which continued to get worse. Went to Dr. Miller at noon and she gave me thorough adjustment and two lights. NO EFFECT AT ALL. In bed at 6 PM.

1/16 Headache in background - very annoying.

1/17 Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and Awoke with headache - two lights. increasingly worse all day. Had two lights and another adjustment but no help at all. Bed 7:30.

1/18 Dr. Jacks - White Light. Slight headache back of eyes. Had White Light and it brought it on worse.

1/19 (Sunday) In bed all day.

1/20 Headache all day, but not terrific.

1/21 Still with me.

1/22 Dr. Jacks - White Light. Headache in background.

1/23 Headache in background.

TREATMENTS CONDITIONS

2/5 - 2/13 Came on and off, but not continual.

Remarks: The severe pain in the back in the kidney region continued. This had been constant since October.

As far as I can see there has been no change in my condition. The slight change I thought had come in the last report must have been just one of the periods of feeling better that I have when I take the treatments or not.

R9. 2/24/41 Doctor Miller kept her word on Friday and did a retest on the White Light machine and the general vitality had gone up to 97. She said that in spite of all the things that were wrong with me there was improvement. She seemed quite certain that the headaches did not come from the kidney condition, neither did the pain in the back. She had come to the conclusion that there is some kink in the intestine somewhere that gets clogged up and that caused the trouble. So I am to make a tea with senna pods, 15 to a cup of water and take for three nights. Then after 15 days do the same thing for three nights and do this for three months and see if this does not head off the attacks.

She certainly is a strange person. When you are talking to her she is just as nice as can be and seems interested. I told her I did not want to pest her but that I got just plain scared for fear I was letting things run along that should be stopped and that they might get beyond control and I might have to lose the kidney. She said I would not have to and not to think of permitting myself to be cystoscoped again.

Thus it stands. I was feeling very well on Friday but awoke on Sat. with a terrific headache which I had all day and Sunday. I started the Senna tea Saturday night and today I seem to be all right again. Anyhow we will go along with this and see what happens.

R10. 2/24/41 Letter to EC:

Honorable Ra-Ta;

I mailed your letter and then went to lunch and upon my return from it found your letter.

It is very kind of you to offer to make the check reading and I very gratefully accept. Saturday will be all right and I’ll be home at that time, … Street.

I imagine you do have a lot of trouble to get the doctors you are advised to send people to to follow the instructions as they are given. I have heard from a couple of sources that some of the doctors in New York who are supposed to be doing as instructed use their own judgement many times when it should not be done. Not only that but will tell the patients they think they know better. Which does not seem to me to be following the spirit of the Divine Help that is being given through you. Funny how the human element always enters in to upset the best laid plans.
