This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of March, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1387], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:35 to 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (After mumbling over the address - “Something wrong with the address.” Then, after quite a pause:)

3. We have those conditions and the desires, and the conditions surrounding same for this body, [1387].

4. As we find, there are much greater resistances in the body than we have had heretofore; though there continues to arise a great deal of distress from the lack of proper assimilation - now - in the body.

5. This is rather from an improper chemical balance in the body.

6. While there is a deficiency of the acids, this had best not be corrected with the taking of acids - UNLESS they be taken in certain ways or manners.

7. We would continue with the adjustments occasionally, and the white light treatments, - but these varied to meet those resistances AND weaknesses indicated as existent in the system.

8. At the present time we would take ACIGEST, about once or twice each week. This would be taken ONLY in raw milk; a teaspoonful to a full glass of milk, preferably taken at the evening meal when taken.

9. Do not overtax the system with sub-acid foods, nor with too much alkaline foods, nor with those carrying any soda.

10. Each day with preferably whichever is the heavier meal of the day, take half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth in a full glass of water with six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin stirred in same.

11. These properties as we find should reduce this sickness from the lack of digestion, and from the pressures produced through the alimentary canal causing sick headaches and poor elimination.

12. The lack of this balance has caused some irritation to the eliminations - and their channels - through the kidneys.

13. With the first one or two doses of the Acigest there may be caused some burning at the time of urination. If so, then reduce the next dose to about half the quantity but keep on taking in the manner indicated. Do this for at least the period until these channels have been clarified, or purified. But do not take the Acigest oftener than indicated, nor larger quantities; and do not take the acid in other forms than in the Acigest, see? but take it only as we have indicated.

15. (Q) What produces, and what should be done for, pain in back? (A) As indicated, it is the strain upon the eliminating systems by this unbalancing in the body. We would take the properties indicated, to produce a better balance; changing a little in the diets in such ways as indicated, - though don’t overeat at any time, of course.

Do not take too much of sweets but a little of same. Take those food values needed; don’t have too much of the raw nor too much roughage, but a well balanced diet, see?

16. (Q) What is the condition of the kidney? (A) As has been indicated.

Do these things as we have indicated here, if we would now make for better conditions with this body.

The body is better in many respects. This unbalance causes anxiety. With the chemical changes, the conditions should be corrected.

R1. 3/3/41 Miss [1387]‘s letter to EC:

Monday Evening

Honorable Ra-Ta;

Thank you so much for the check reading which arrived this afternoon. I never expected it to come so quickly, not till Tuesday at best. Poor Miss Gladys must have worked on it on Sunday to get it to me so soon and I certainly do appreciate your effort and everyone else’s in the Cayce Family in my behalf.

The reading seems to bear out Dr. Miller’s contention that it is the kink in the elimination system that causes the headaches and the pain in the back. That has been relieved quite a bit, incidentally, since I took the Senna pod tea those three nights.

I’ll get the ACIGEST and the Milk of Bismuth and Elixir of Lactated Pepsin mentioned.

I’ve read the report over a number of times and I’m not completely certain I understand it all. This is how I interpret it:

Page 1, Paragraph 4 [1387-4, Par. 5]. This speaks of greater resistance in the body - I take this to mean that the vitality had risen as was indicated in the White Light Check reading.

Page 1, Paragraph 6 [Par. 7]. This mentioned the taking of acids - Does this mean I should avoid acid foods as lemons, oranges, tomatoes, etc? I have tried for some time to cut out vinegar, pickles, catchups, and relishes, containing vinegar. I slip off once in a while.

Page 2, Paragraph 1 [Par. 9]. I really don’t know which foods contain the things mentioned in this but I think I can locate that information here so as not to have to bother you about it.

Page 2, Paragraph 5 [Par. 13]. This mentions reducing dose of ACIGEST if burning occurs and reads, ”…If so then reduce the NEXT dose to about half the quantity but keep on taking in the manner indicated…” I don’t know if that means to just reduce the dose following and then the next one to go back to the teaspoon full, or to continue with the 1/2 dose during the period of taking.

The same paragraph continued, “Do this for at least the period until these channels have been clarified…” How will I know when to stop taking the Acigest? I was happy to see that Mrs. Cayce had conducted the reading and hope that means she is feeling more herself.

I am having a great time trying to get used to my new bifocal glasses and don’t know who is going to win yet, the glasses or me. So far we seem to be even. It certainly is a task with all the levels I have to look at things.

R2. 3/6/41 EC’s letter to Miss [1387]:

Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Miss [1387]:

Thanks for yours of the 3rd - No - we need no thanks, we were just anxious that you be feeling good, and have so little other ways to try and help but with the readings. Just hope they come in in the right place. Miss Gladys, makes promises to her self now and then to keep up with the readings but is when have several checks at once does it give her trouble. Saturday was one of those days, so think she did work far in to the evening.

Hope you find the things suggested working to keep you in proper shape feel sure, if the TEA has helped then Dr. M. line must be on the right road.

Now for my opinion on the things you ask.

Page 1, Par. 4 [1387-4, Par. 5]. Yes, think this refers to the resistance built in the body tho evidently not yet coordinated.

Par. 6 [Par. 7]. No, rather take citrus fruit, while they are acid they react well with the system, and should with the Acigest - for that is hydrochloric - but by all means cut out the use of vinegar - this is one of the hardest acids on the system.

Page 2, Par. 1 [Par. 9]. If you do not find this drop Miss Gladys a line, think she has a long list of all these that have been given from time to time - and has been compiled. [Alkalin-Forming Foods]

Page 2, Par. 5 [Par. 13]. Should you have to reduce the quantity - (think this refers to the action of acetic (vinegar) with Hydro-) continue with the reduced dosage for some time.

When you find you can digest most any thing - you will have the correct balance in the system - you should - if the cause is as suggested - be practically free of the headaches.

Yes - Gertrude is better, hope to get her off to the Dr. this next week she is much improved. Started bith [with?] Bifocal, so have never had any trouble seldom do I realize they are bifocal. Hope they work out all OK.

R3. 4/3/41 [1387]‘s letter: Enclosed is my report on the Fourth Series of the treatments under Dr. Miller [See Par. R4 below] and I don’t imagine you will be any more pleased with it than I am.

Out of the 49 day period I had headaches 24 days or 49% of the time and felt very well 20 days or 41%. As far as I can feel I do not see any improvement although the check reading had my resistance at 97 which should certainly be good. It is hard to understand. I have gotten the Acigest and the other drugs mentioned in the last reading ad have been taking them according to directions but the headaches continue, from last Friday on with increased strength. I’m just about ready to give up on the whole thing and stop doing anything, just make up my mind that I’m stuck with them the rest of my life and adjust myself to it.

I went back yesterday to start another series and the place was quite busy, I was waiting in the hall and Dr. Miller came through and saw me and said, “How is the young lady?” I said, “Just the same.” She said, “No better?” I said, “No.” Then she walked away and I did not see her again. I suppose that she figures she is doing all she knows so there is nothing else to say.

R4. REPORT OF THE FOURTH SERIES OF TREATMENTS UNDER DR. MARY MILLER AND TWO WEEKS REST. Period from February 12 to April 1, 1941.

TREATMENTS CONDITION

2/12 Holiday - Did not have 2/12—13 Feeling O.K. treatment.

2/14 Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and Felt O.K. Two lights.

2/15 Dr. Jacks - Two lights. Slight headache all day.

2/16 Fine.

TREATMENTS CONDITION

2/17 Headache - bad back ache.

2/18 Fine. 2/19 Dr. Jacks - Two lights. I Fine. talked to Dr. Miller about condition and she is to check the White Light next time.

2/20 O.K. except for backache.

2/21 Dr. Miller checked me and Fine. found the resistance now 97. Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and two lights.

2/22 Holiday - did not go. Awoke with headache - had all day.

2/23 Headache still active.

2/24 Fine.

2/25 Awoke with headache

• cleared later.

2/26 Dr. Jacks - Two lights Developed cold.

2/27 Cold worse.

2/28 Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and Cold. two lights.

3/1 Adjustment helped cold. 3/2 Cold better. 3/3 Feeling O.K. again. 3/4 Feeling O.K.

3/5 Dr. Jacks - two lights. Developed headache from new glasses. 3/6 Awoke with headache

• still from glasses.

3/7 Dr. Jacks - Adjustment and two lights. Awoke with headache - eased up during the day but returned at 8 pm.

TREATMENTS CONDITION

3/8 Awoke with terrific

• continued all day. In bed at 7 PM.

3/9 Awoke with active pain but it eased up about noon.

3/10 Awoke with headache

• but it cleared.

3/11 O.K. today.

3/12 Dr. Jacks - two lights. She Awoke with terrific gave me a little treatment on the headache and deafness head. in left ear. Headache continued all day but lessened a little after Dr. J. worked on my head.

3/13 Awoke with headache.

3/14 Dr. Jacks - adjustment and Slight headache. two lights.

3/15 Dr. Jacks - two lights. O.K.

3/16 Awoke with headache but it cleared.

3/17 Headache, slight all day.

3/18 Awoke with one but cleared.

3/19 Awoke with one but cleared.

3/20—23 Fine.

3/24 Headache started at 11 AM and stayed all day.

3/25—27 O.K.

3/28 Started at 3 PM and grew steadily worse TREATMENTS CONDITION

until by 11 pm deathly ill with it.

3/29 Awoke with it still terrific. This was Saturday so I went to

bed when I got home from work at 1 PM.

3/30 Awoke with it but cleared about noon.

3/31 Started about 4 PM and continued.

4/1 Awoke with it and also the deafness in the left ear.

Have followed the suggestions in the reading of March 1st and am taking the ACIGEST and the Milk of Bismuth ad Elixir of Pepsin.

These headaches have a definite relation to the weather.

R5. Miss [1387]‘s letter to EC:

Wednesday Evening

Honorable Ra-Ta:

Please forgive me for not writing sooner to tell you the date in the week of the 20th, but I suddenly got swamped with work at the office and this is the first second I’ve had.

I don’t think we have given the second reading, at least the second check reading a long enough chance to see if it is going to make the correction. Let’s wait until sometime in May so as to really see how it goes.

I saw Dr. Miller for a few minutes today and she asked me how I was and I told her no better at all that I had the pain in my head practically constantly. She said “What am I to report to Mr. Cayce?” I said “Well I’ve reported that I can see no improvement,” and she said, “I don’t understand. We have had such good results. Everyone else shows almost immediate progress.” I said, “Well maybe I’m just a hard nut to crack”, and she said, “Well I don’t like it” and I said, “Well I certainly don’t.”

Then I asked a question that has been sneaking into my consciousness of late more and more.” Do you suppose it is a brain tumor?” She said, “Oh I don’t think so.”

That Idea gets me because I have known personally four cases where no one could find out what was the matter with the patients - what caused their headaches and then when it was too late to do anything it was discovered to be a brain tumor. I can think of the NICEST things for myself!

R6. 4/21/41 She reported on a Life Rdg. for her friend, Mrs. [2487], saying:

I’m so discouraged about myself I simply don’t know what to do. Saturday I finished another three week period of three treatments a week. Thursday and Friday I felt fine, Saturday I awakened with a sore throat and Sunday and today I have been about insane with the pain in my head. I can’t understand how I can feel so well one day and the next just about ready to blow my brains out because of the pain.

So glad you are coming up. Many thanks for your kind help.

R7. 5/5/41 Miss [1387]‘s letter to EC:

Honorable Ra-Ta;

Thank you so much for giving us your valuable time last Wednesday evening, especially when you had had such a trying day. It was such a pleasure to be with you. It was nice to see Miss Gladys looking so well ad I do hope that Mrs. Cayce will recover her sight with the assistance of this doctor who is great enough to be willing to follow directions.

[2487] was so happy to have been able to know you “in the flesh” as it were. She jokingly asked me today if I thought you were really “still asleep” when you told her she should study for her Ph.D. [2487-1]

Mr. Kahn is always so pleasant and so filled with the glory of your work that it is a pleasure to talk with him. Those two little boys are lovely children aren’t they?

I have decided not to go back to Dr. Miller until after we have the check reading you so kindly suggested. I will continue taking the Acigest and the Milk of Bismuth and Pepsin as directed but hold off on the other until we get some more information. Any Wednesday or Saturday afternoon, after this week I can arrange to be home for it when it suits you.

I am going to mail the report of the Fifth Series of Treatments [Par. R8 below] and the check for the Building Fund directly to Hugh Lynn at the Beach so that you won’t have to be bothered carrying them back. The report is as discouraging as the others. Out of the 35 day period, I had 20 days of headaches, 7 with the ear trouble and 10 days reasonable well.

We did a little research on those dates connected with May 11th [2550-1, Par. 11? 3976-26] and found that 3200 years ago Jerusalem was destroyed, 1600 years ago Constantine established the Christian church again dashing the Jews hopes, 800 years ago The Crusades went into the holy Land. Which would indicate that this May 11 may see the Moslems again drive out the British (the Jews) from the Holy Land. The military action in the present quarter certainly looks as if that could be possible. [See her 5/15/41 letter, Par. R9 below.]

I had a bad shock on Thursday. Dr. Cappel’s [J. Cappel?] son (The doctor who has done so much for me and whom I loved very dearly) came in my office suddenly and said they had tried to get in touch with me Wednesday night (when I was with you) to tell me that Dr. Cappel had passed over with a heart attack Wednesday at 1:30. The thing almost knocked me for a loop. I had just taken [2487] to him on last Wednesday and she had an appointment for that day. To the ordinary world it would be hard to understand how I could feel so close to a man you might say was a stranger to me in comparison to my own family. Still I feel his loss much more keenly than that of those connected with me by a blood tie.

It sort of gave me a jolt too for another reason. He was so sure that he was going to go back to Maya and again work there as he had done in other lives and even in this one and he passed without doing so. If such a great psychic as he was could be wrong in what he felt how can one have faith in things that are told? It has knocked the props out from under me at present, but I suppose it will get straightened out in my mind some time.

4/22 Still terrific at rising. Tried to eat breakfast but had sudden feeling of choking which caused me to lose breakfast and much mucus. This seemed to relieve the pressure in the head a little but pain continued at a lesser rate until 4 pm when it suddenly left.

4/23 Head pretty good except for cold.

4/24 Headache.

4/25 Headache terrific until 4:30 PM when it eased up a little.

R9. 5/15/41 Miss [1387]‘s to EC:

I wonder of Hesse’s arrival in England on May 11th [See her 5/5/41 letter, Par. R7 above] is also one of the things supposed to happen as he was a rabid anti-Jew and that would tie up with the other things. I see that the head of the Arabs is calling them to revolt against the rule of Britain in Palestine and extra forces have been sent there. Yesterday the New York Sun had an article that a British Astrologer had predicted that some world important things were to happen on May 11 and the 24th also.

Speaking of things happening…something has been going on around me for some time that has me very much confused and for the past two weeks I have withdrawn from all people as much as possible and tried to “go within” to get the answers to these things that are bothering me for I realise that is where they should come from but I don’t seem to have any luck at all. I have been trying desperately hard not to make a decision about anything or anybody until I can feel within myself that I am right, but I think and think and get exactly nowhere. I go to bed with the questions in my mind and my first waking thought contains them again. I just don’t know how anyone ever does make spiritual contact. I certainly have been a failure in everything I have attempted.

Now for the questions that occur to me for the reading. By the way, if any questions enter your mind about me or conditions surrounding me please don’t hesitate to ask The Information about them. I have the feeling you have some ideas and have hesitated to ask The Source because you did not know if you had my permission. You have, ask anything you choose.

1. Has Dr. Miller followed the instructions that have been given? If not, what else has she failed to do?

2. Even though my headaches pre-date my knowing any of the members of NESDOR INC. have my activities in the Shop [Psychic book and gift shop run by Nesta Crane and Dorothy Herzog.] and elsewhere with them had any bearing on my condition?

3. It has been suggested that my illness is partically [partially?] psychic, a sort of semi-obsession idea. Is there any basis for this belief?

4. Is the condition the working out of a Karmic debt?

5. Have heard about two doctors who seem to be doing some amazing healing:

One cures by diet. The second by mental suggestion, combined with adjustments, and electrical treatment where needed. Could either of these help me if Dr. Miller can’t?

If you don’t approve of my questions, you of course are at liberty to leave any out you care to.
