Date: 5/24/1941 Sex: F Age: 42 ReadingID: 7107
This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of May, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1387], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1387], this we have had before, you see.
-
While at times there appears to be some improvement at others it is not so well.
-
As we find, the seat or the cause of the trouble has not been reached as yet.
-
There is in the present a form of anemia. This characterization has much to do with the digestive system, as we find in the present, and produces a form of headache that arises from a condition in which the blood appears to produce pricks, or a buzz, along the nervous system. The effect is in the reflexes from the brain, and the source or nature of these is in the poisons from this toxic force.
-
This as we find is the condition in the present.
-
The applications as indicated in the massage and corrections have NOT been in keeping with those administrations suggested.
-
The effect of the light, and the kind of electrical force, has at times been beneficial. It has at others been of a nature as to cause irritation rather than to allay or help the general condition.
-
Then, while it may appear that those applications have been time and even money badly spent, we find that they may be used as a means of help by having applications made now, as we will suggest, by one who may give greater assurance.
-
As we find in the present, we would use the hot and the cold applications twice to three times each week, with a particular movement made in adjustments in the area between the 5th and the 9th dorsal.
-
We would suggest Backman for these, who may make the adjustments also. Of course, coordinate the cervical AND the dorsal with the corrections made between the 5th and the 9th dorsal, see? but make movements there.
-
We would in the present use a compound prepared as we will suggest, for better assimilation and digestion, and for activities through the alimentary canal. We find that this will aid in correcting this blood disturbance and enable the assimilating system, as related to the glandular forces of the body, to be better balanced.
-
To 2 ounces of Distilled Water add 1 ounce of Strained Honey. Let come to a boil. Skim and set off.
-
Then, when near cool, add - in the order named:
Grain Alcohol…1 ounce, Essence or fusion of Wild Ginseng…1/2 ounce, Essence of Wild Ginger…1/2 ounce, Tincture of Valerian…1/4 ounce.
The dose would be half a teaspoonful four times each day; half an hour before meals (and eat the meals!) and at bedtime.
-
Do these, as we find in the present, until a full quantity is taken of the medicinal properties indicated. Then we will give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Even though my headaches pre-date my knowing any of the members of NESDOR INC. have my activities in the Shop and elsewhere with them had any bearing on the condition? (A) There have been periods when the association has aggravated, but it is not a source or cause and should not be considered so in the present. Rather the source is as indicated.
Those conditions for the kidneys, and as to the position of stomach, are better; but the pressures made in some respects have not been so well.
-
(Q) It has been suggested that my illness is partially psychic, a sort of semi-obsession idea. Is there any basis for this belief? (A) As we find, it is rather a physical condition, though the psychic - or the attempt to raise the kundaline - causes an irritation. It would be best NOT to be too deep in meditation until the physical conditions show improvement.
-
(Q) Is the condition the working out of a karmic debt? (A) It may be termed such, yet in the present it would be rather - as we find - far-fetched; but could be called such, by some.
We would follow these suggestions in the present; and then we would check again on that done.
- We are through for the present. [See Par. R3, for dream EC had during reading 1387-5.]
Two copies to Self (one for Dr. Louis H. Backman, 40 West 55th St., N.Y.C.) Copy to Ass’n file
(See extra sheet [which was enclosed] for druggist in preparing the compound.
Let us know when you have finished taking the medicinal properties, so we can make an appointment for a Check Physical to give further instructions.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/29/41 [1387]‘s ltr. to EC:
Honorable Ra-Ta;
Thank you so much for the check reading. I am not at all surprised at the anemia condition as I’ve been treated for many years by the medical profession for secondary anemia at different times. The fact that I feel cold most of the time when others are warm made me suspect lately that I was again in that condition, so the reading checks that certainly.
I am not clear on whether when I start taking this new medicine that I should discontinue taking the Acigest and the Bismuth and Pepsin or take them all as they may be for different things.
On Page 2 Paragraph 2 [1387-5, Par. 10] hot and cold applications are spoken of. These have not been mentioned before in my readings. Does Dr. Backman understand about this type of treatment without further instructions?
I do hope that this man will follow instructions as, if you recall, a short time ago in a letter to you I mentioned that I had heard that one of the doctors your information was sending people to was said to have made the statement that he did not believe in the bunk but took the cases and then treated them as he thought best disregarding the readings. I did not mention his name at the time but now that I have been sent to him I am naturally concerned about his attitude as I cannot afford either the money or time just to be thrown away as you can understand. Why CAN’T these people keep the faith and do as they are asked to do? Especially when there is such a vast amount of proof that cases are helped with the exact treatment?
Last Wednesday we started in with a very hot spell which has been hard on most people but as I always seem to work in reverse to regular human beings, I have felt very well indeed. I have not had a real severe headache since it started and I’ve been working under a considerable strain too. For this period of respite I am very thankful.
R2. 5/30/41 EC’s ltr. to [1387]:
Dear [1387]:
Well - what did you think of this reading, wish could talk with you about it. Had one of the most unusual experiences ever had in giving a reading, otherwise - believe would feel the reading was determined to have you try every Dr. in the country.
Can’t you come to the Congress this year - think will wait until hear what you think before tell you the experience - for you must have had one also at the time.
Think have the source of the trouble now - do not like the treatment you had but - am sure has done some good.
Let me hear from you won’t you.
With Love from all, Edgar Cayce
Please tell [2487] to come if possible tell
R3. 5/31/41 EC’s ltr. to [1387]:
Dear [1387]:
Thanks for yours of the 29th - had written you, and as said was anxious to hear from you, then might tell you the experience had while giving your reading this time. But I had this experience - and have never had it before. I dreamed or - was conscious of seeing your body conditions as they existed as if were a very fine being or consciousness passing along the blood stream of your body. What a curious experience, but believe if one ever had a real reading you did. Was not conscious of what was said, but was conscious of what was seen. So the reading was of special interest to me. And will be most anxious to see what happens. Yes - think Dr. Backman gives the hot and cold water treatments - he has appeared to be very cooperative, especially since a check up reprimanded him for something he did. Possibly he is one that says one thing and does another, but feel very sure you can find out by talking with him. And if he doesn’t agree to do just as suggested do not go to him at all. Will get it some where else, for am sure that you can.
Glad you have had some relief with the hot weather - but that of itself would indicate the Hot and Cold might be the thing for you - let me know please what you find out - and will see who else the information would send you to.
Am sure you will do a fine job of the Egyptian information, and there should be many good stories in that, from many angles.
Love from all.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R4. 6/3/41 [1387]‘s ltr. to EC:
Honorable Ra-Ta; Thank you for both your letters. Just for fun I am enclosing the envelope in which the second one came. Just look at it! It was never cancelled by the post office…neither the stamp itself, or the date stamp. I never had that happen before. It must have come by “Spirit Post”, what think you?
So you have been running around my blood stream have you? Well I never would have known it. I wonder if that was how Mary had her immaculate conception…some spirit was running around her blood stream…so if I should suddenly have twins I should not be surprised should I?
But joking aside, that certainly must have been a most strange experience. No I did not have any experience at the time at all. It is always rather amusing to me when the Information tells me not to try to sit and raise my vibrations, for I get absolutely no results at all so they need not worry on that score, I just don’t seem to be able to meditate, or get in that state at all.
I am glad to hear that you think Dr. Backman has “reformed” and will follow the treatments. It is so hard to judge if what people tell you is true or not. I’ll go down to him just the first chance I can get and see how he acts about the matter.
I was feeling well up till last Friday and then I had another attack and was very ill that day and Saturday and part of Sunday, but Monday I was O.K. again and today feel fine. It is certainly queer the way the darn thing acts.
By the way I asked you in the letter before this if I were to stop the other medicines when I start taking this new one or if it should be added to the acigest and pepsin and bismuth.
I am enclosing the check for this month for the building fund. I hope you are being flooded with them!
Poor [2487] is a wreck from her examinations. I don’t see how she could possible stand the strain of taking a degree. She just goes to pieces over the examinations. She is not so strong and it just breaks her all up. I had to keep her together practically by the force of my will.
Love, [1387]
R5. 6/5/41 EC’s ltr. to [1387]:
Dear [1387]:
Thanks for yours of the 3rd. Think that is the first time I ever saw a letter go through the mail without seemingly having been touched - something very strange - tho guess such does happen as it has once at least. Sure have wondered about the experience - never in the thousands have give have I had such an experience - do not know what it indicates. Would like sometime have the chance to ask a lot of questions about such experiences - and see just what would be said - might be - who knows - but would be a fearful experience.
Will be most anxious to know what your impression is when you see Dr. B. Will be anxious.
Should think would be well to keep the properties that you have been taking - didn’t say leave them off, so would take them for a time yet, any way.
Too bad that with the cool weather you had to have the old pain again - hope all that will soon be better. Gosh, but I used to have the headache until thought would butt my brains out - have actually sat and pulled with all my might on my hair, it hurt so! Haven’t had them tho to amount to any thing since began to give readings - and not at all since have done it regularly. But would never advise you to try that - tho if you ever do - please give me the first one.
Thanks for the Bldg. fund - has been lovely the help that has come and sure do appreciate it from you as well as the rest.
Sorry [2487] has had such a time of it. Hope she is all set tho now and feels better. Do hope she can come down and rest a bit. Sure would like to have her come - and when can we hope to have you here for a week, month or like again? Think you would like the offices - and not have to be switched here and there with every new wind coming in.
Thanks again with love, Edgar Cayce
R6. 7/18/41 [1387]‘s ltr. to EC: I have been trying to drop you a line to send you the check for July for The Building Fund ever since the beginning of July but I have been so rushed with work I just could not seem to get around to it. These six weeks in Summer Session are my worst period in the entire year.
I imagine you wonder what has happened to me since you last heard…that was about the time you were “running around in my blood stream” if I remember correctly. Well lots of things happened suddenly…all bad…
Before I had the opportunity to get around to make an appointment to see Dr. Backman as was suggested in the last reading I was awakened one night at 3 A.M. with a terrific pain in my heart. I could not get my breath and it became more violent. I tried to turn over and could not. Finally I got up and walked the floor trying to get my breath. It was no better after a half hour and I had not wanted to go in the kitchen to get some hot water because I did not want to frighten my mother but it was so acute I did at last. She of course awakened and tried to help me. We massaged the side under the heart till it was so sore I could hardly touch it. Finally at 5 A.M. it eased up a little so that I dared to go to bed again. I could not lie down but spent the rest of the night sitting propped up.
The next day I felt badly but it was my 12-hour day so I could not go [to] town. Tuesday I was stuck on a research job and Wednesday while I was on my afternoon off and down town I had to go to a printers and had another attack while in his office. A friend was with me and she just took matters in her own hands and called a doctor friend of hers and took me there.
He [Max Gerson, M.D.] said that the heart attack was caused by the accumulated poisons from the kidney. I told him of the terrific headaches I had had so long and that I have gotten no relief from them. He said that they were migraine and that he COULD definitely cure them.
It is five weeks since I went to him and I have TO DATE not had a single sign of a headache! He has put me on a very very strict diet. I have had nothing to et but raw fresh vegetables and fruit and some cooked vegetables cooked in a covered pan in a little sweet butter and with that he has gotten results. It finally looks as if someone has at last been found who understands the case and went right to the source of the trouble. It is a very difficult diet to keep as I can have no salt, sugar, nothing out of a can bottled or reserved in any way. Nothing to drink but freshly squeezed oranges and grapefruit and tomato juices. No water or milk. But drastic or not he has given me the first relief I’ve had since 1934.
R7. 7/21/41 EC’s ltr. to [1387]:
Dear [1387]:
Glad indeed to have yours of the 18th. So good to know that you have found something to help with those old headaches. Think I can appreciate that more than most - for have not forgotten how I once suffered with just such, and it seems to me, one does not fully appreciate the thing unless they have themselves experienced it. Too bad that you had to have such a serious experience to be brought to the right one, but hope you have it and that you will now be able to live a more normal life - for know by my own experience one simply does not live a normal life suffering from those headaches.
Trust the diet doesn’t get to strenuous for you - but am sure you will know am thankful and glad for you - all praise to the Dr.
Yes, wish you might have been with us for the Congress - possibly tho am not sure we may have had at one a larger crowd, but the intreset [interest?] was fine - and the meetings were all well attended - and there was more spirituality there than have seen at any of the meetings. Every one must have felt that - from the way they have expressed themselves, and still do. Heard from some of them that were here this morning and they are still commenting on what a wonderful time all had at the meeting. We are keeping quite busy, some two weeks ahead with appointments. H. L. is recreation director of the army camps here, and is about the busiest boy ever saw. Rest are well.
Thanks again - and let us hear from you. Do hope the good work keeps up and you do not wear your self out. Won’t you spend a few days here this summer? Sure would like to have you about. Think you would find it not bad here.
Love from all, Edgar Cayce
R8. 8/7/41 Miss [2487]‘s letter: “[1387] and I considered VB for a vacation but that diet rules many places out and VB seemed to be one we had to cross off. [1387] is improved since she has been keeping this diet. In fact she has not had a really bad headache since. Strange too that it is almost a good Buddhist diet and a diet and regime that the high priests have recommended for ages. I haven’t gone on it completely but she looks so much better I consider it. I weaken when I see good pie or cake though.”
R9. 10/9/41 [1387]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce;
It seems about time I dropped you a line to let you know that I am still in the land of the living also to send you three months contribution to the building fund. I just checked back and discovered that July was the last I had sent. Summer is always a hectic time here and things stack up against me.
I hope that Mrs. Cayce’s eye condition has improved and that the rest of you are all enjoying good health, especially since the Fall weather has come.
Here is what has happened to me since I last wrote. I told you of having those attacks that led me to going to this Dr. Max Gerson. He is quite a remarkable person and though I have nothing to base it on except my “feelings” I am convinced that he gets a lot of his treating information from “The Other Side.”
Anyhow he immediately stopped the heart attacks which he said came not from the heart but from the accumulated poisons from the kidney getting around there when I was lying horizontal. Then he started working on what we thought were migraine headaches. I was put on a very strict diet, practically impossible to follow but I did and for 11 weeks I did not have a sign of a headache. Then one day while I was away I had to visit some relations and had a very simple regular meal and for the next two days I was in misery. Then I was all right again until about four weeks ago. I had of course lost many pounds with the diet and he was not pleased with the way I was responding. Then the headaches came back and he said that there must be something beyond the migraine that was causing them for if I stayed ON the diet, thought there was no cure for migraine that I WOULD have relief and the flare-ups be few and far between and not severe.
Then he decided that perhaps it was sinus, which I was pretty sure it was not as I had always feared that and had it checked a number of times and it was always O.K. Well they took two X-Rays one of the front of my head and one of the left side where most of the pain is. When he called me in he was all excited. The sinus was all right but the one on the side showed definitely what the trouble was…A most advanced case of arthritis of the bones of the head and the part of the spine that showed as far as the shoulders. He said it was no wonder that I had been in misery from the condition of the bones that he could see he did not see how I had been able to get around. Then I got out some pictures of my entire spine that had been taken in 1937 when I went to Dr. Cappel these also showed arthritis in certain places. Then he looked on my mouth and found on the roof on the right side a large lump so apparently that is another deposit.
So there it is - all this time and misery which a couple of pictures could have shown me.
I really don’t know what to think. As you know ordinary doctors simply can’t do anything for arthritis and doctors my Mother has gone to for hers tell her to save her money that nothing can be done about it. But you had success and so did Dr. Cappel and this man I believe has also so I guess the only thing I can do is continue on for a while at least. He has given me some relief from the diet and perhaps if I have the will power to stick it he may do the trick. So that is my tale of woe.
R10. 10/11/41 EC’s letter: “Sorry you have had such a time. Do hope you are on the right track and will get the relief you should have. From all the other experiences, don’t just get that being the trouble, but know I may be all wrong. Just hope, though, you do get help and relief - whatever it may be. You are too fine a person and do too much good to have to suffer like that. Please let us hear how you come along, and if we can help know we are glad to try.”
R11. 1/13/42 “I don’t know what to think of my health. I have been going to Dr. Gerson now since June and I still have my sieges of the headache. That period of so many weeks when I did not have it in the heat of summer I am now afraid was just one of the free periods and not the diet as I had hoped. He admits that he can’t understand why I don’t respond. I guess I’m just stuck with this and might as well just give up trying to find someone to help me. It certainly is most discouraging.”
R12. 1/22/42 “I am sort of plying around with the idea of having a check health reading if I can scare up the money somewhere. I seem in a lot of ways better and perhaps might get some direction that would finish the job.”
R13. 1/23/42 EC’s letter: “You know will be glad to try and help at any time.”
R14. 1/26/42 “I somehow feel that Dr. Gerson has done as much for me as he is able and I really think he has helped a lot and that his system of diet has a way of purifying the system. Perhaps I no longer need the care of a doctor. Just as soon as I can see my way clear I’ll have that reading and see how it all stands now. I do want it and will do it as soon as possible.”
R15. 2/4/42 “I have just had another two day attack with my head. I just don’t think there is anything that will help it.
“Oh, I always meant to tell you. When you gave me the last reading, the one suggesting I go to Dr. Backman, there was a prescription to be filled. I tried all over and no one would fill it for me. They said one ingredient in it was not possible to get, and another they could not use without a doctor’s prescription.”
R16. 2/6/42 EC’s letter: “Too bad about the headaches. There must be something that would help. If you would care to try the formula given, could get a Dr. here to write this for me and have it filled and send to you, tho might not be bad to ask about it before hand as it has been some time, and am sure many changes have taken place, especially with the changed diet, but will be glad to get it for you if you wish to try it.”
R17. 2/6/42 She wrote also: “I think when you get around to it I’ll have you set a time for another check health reading for me.”
R18. 2/13/42 She submitted questions.
