This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of April, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1472], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with further suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1472]; this we have had before.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) As far as I know I followed all instructions given me through this source in all former Rdgs. and would therefore be grateful to be told why I received no help through the information, that I may now correct the cause of former failures in order to make this Rdg. and the advice it offers more effective. (A) Because they didn’t do what was indicated to be done! It was not always the fault of the body, [1472]. Mostly it was because of the manner in which administrations were made by others. These as we find are the faults, if faults they be.

It is not meant that information given through this channel should be interpreted as being infallible, but these are the conditions existent as viewed from the condition of the individual entity.

The interpreting of the information in the minds of others, as well as the manner in which the individual entity is influenced by others - by their material or physical knowledge, does not imply that the information given is incorrect. But it does imply that if these are met under certain other administrations, and done in the same manner and attitude that the information may be given, there may be produced a oneness - and response in its own kind.

Here, for this body, as we find, - and as we have indicated, - there are disturbances in the lymph circulation, especially in the soft tissue of face and head. The antrum, the frontal and the inner area has shown infection, from the congestion and a general catarrhal condition. These arise from many sources, but from long standing have begun to be of a constitutional nature.

This does not imply, then, that these are incurable; but, as is the influence in ALL healing, whether the administration be purely suggestive, of a vibratory nature, from the laying on of hands, or by the spoken word, the administration of medicinal properties or even the use of means to remove diseased tissue, we find that the same source of individuality in the cause must be attained. That is, that which has been dissenting in its nature through the physical forces of the body must be so attuned to spiritual forces in itself as to become revitalized.

This then, as we have indicated, does not mean that NO condition cannot be improved, or that no condition cannot be healed.

As to what is that necessary influence to bring about curative or healing or life giving forces for that individuality and personality of the individual with same, as related to the spiritual forces, may be answered only within the individual itself. For, no source passes judgment. For, the spirituality, the individuality of the God-force in each entity’s combined forces, must be its judge.

For this body, then: We find that these healing influences may come from two sources, - yea, three sources.

Not that these are all the conditions existent at this time. For, to be sure, the inflammation or the infection that drops through the capillary forces, as well as the circulation from the antrum, the soft tissue, to the tissue in the digestive forces, also produces upsets to the digestive forces of the body. But IF those influences are removed, then each portion of the body, each source, has that within itself which may reproduce its own needs.

While the soft tissue of the nasal passage, as would have to do with the activity of the nerves that produce the response to the olfactory system or the sense of smell, or odors, does not produce the lining of the stomach, we find that ANY infection of one may produce a condition that is contradictory in comparison to some other portion of the body.

For, as man experiences in his relationships to his own self and those influences of attraction, heredity and environmental forces, the weeds seem oft to grow much better than flowers. Here, then, as indicated, there are two sources - yea, three manners - wherein this condition may be particularly aided, and in the aiding of same may bring about much better GENERAL conditions of the body.

The first method would be to change the environment. This is not practical. Then either of the other two manners is practical and may aid in bringing helpful forces, yea, even curative forces, if there is the consistent application in the manner indicated.

Let those that make application use a diffusion of oils that may be prepared for such, from the rectified fish oil - ichthyol - preferably the monoichthyolated, or treated through ammonia and prepared for same.

Or there may be used the hot water treatment with the injection into the nostril of the Elliott Machine, or the preparation of such for the treating of such conditions.

This kept for a period of some three to four weeks, given every other day, should bring about such conditions as to dissipate all the inflammation from these areas.

These as we find are the manners, as combined with the increasing of the amounts of the elements in the system as related to the metabolism balance, or the chemical balance as would change or alternate the chemical forces. The excess amounts of the Vitamin A would hasten the curative process.

Either of these methods would also require such hydrotherapy treatments as to keep down the poisons that may be disseminated through the system by such measures.

5. (Q) Do you advise that I take the hundred thousand unit capsules of Vitamin A, put up by the Bio Products Corp. of Astoria, Oregon, as recommended by Dr. Egon V. Ullman, as a cure for sinus infection, in his book on proper diet for sinus troubles? (A) As just indicated. These may be taken, but we would NOT take just these alone! Use with same either the spray as indicated, or the hot water Elliott Machine Application. The addition of this combination of elements for the system would be more active if ALL of these are taken together.

6. (Q) Would I have to take this large dosage of Vitamin A for a period of two years as stated by Dr. Straumfjord? (A) As just indicated, it would not have to be taken so long to see results - IF the other applications are given; not one, but either the Elliott Machine or the monolated ichthyol spray with same, see? Either of these should be used with the Vitamins, with the thorough hydrotherapy treatment at least once a week or once in ten days, or three times a month, with a thorough massage. Then, with these done, we would only take half the quantity, not in the larger dose but half the dose; and half the time will do 100% more than taken alone for two years - for this body.

7. (Q) Can you suggest a doctor who would be more cooperative and progressive, and consequently better for me to have, than my present physician, Dr. Irene Gates? (A) This had better be chosen by the body itself.

8. (Q) Would it be advisable to have an examination by the gynecologist she suggests? (A) If that is desired, do so.

9. (Q) What is the cause of the pain in my breast from which I have suffered at various periods recently? Is it evidence of any danger of cancer? (A) As just indicated, when there is any form of disturbance or infection in those areas of the system where lymph glands form nobules, these may gather in any of the glands of the body. Now, those applications suggested may attune the forces that are infected in the system to such a state as to eradicate the causes, so that the body-energies may build constructively rather than still attempting to defend or ward off the improper conditions. If left alone, these may cause such congestion in the mammary glands as to produce first a center around which accumulations may gather, and thus cause those tendencies where a continued breaking down of resistances, and the inability to eradicate same, might bring destructive forces. As yet this is not other than an inclination, from the sources indicated.

10. (Q) Was the purchase of my house at Virginia Beach a wise move on my part, and will the climate and other conditions there be beneficial to my health when I am able to live in it? (A) Much of this would depend upon the pros and cons, or as to the purposes, aims and desires. As we find, when considered for the health, the abilities that may be a part of the entity’s influence when it resides there, WELL. If it is considered purely from the material, very good. If from the ability of the entity to use same for helpfulness to others, it’s wonderful.

11. (Q) Would it be beneficial to me to spend my vacation this year at the Eastern Camp Farthest Out in August? [Glenn Clark’s] (A) If that is what is desired, and the physical conditions permit, and the body is able to carry on with the indicated treatments to eliminate the disturbing forces, well. If not, don’t stay away from them too long.

12. (Q) Where would it be advisable to spend it to receive the most benefit? (A) That should be the choice of the body.

13. (Q) Please state the cause of the constant ache and pain throughout the pelvic region, back, and left kidney; advise as to proper treatment, and tell me if there is any hope for the full recovery of my health. (A) This is partly a result of the general conditions in the system attempting to eliminate the poisons created by the infection and infected parts through the system. For, this is carried to various portions of the body. Hence, as indicated, there should be the choice as to which course may be taken by the entity. Either of these, in the whole, will eliminate the disturbance - if consistently, persistently adhered to - in the way that has been indicated.

14. (Q) What is the cause of so much indigestion and nausea with me, and would any special diet help? (A) This has been indicated. We would not do other than add a little Milk of Bismuth with Pepsin in it; this not taken after every meal, but when there is the fullness felt afterward, - a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and six drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin stirred in a glass of water will alleviate it. But this will require that there be kept good eliminations.

Let at least a portion of one meal each day consist of raw fruits or vegetables. Plenty of whole grain cereal, or whole grain bread. Plenty of vegetables of all characters, and milk.

15. (Q) Please give me any further instructions necessary to the establishment of better health and greater service to the world at this time. (A) Heal the body, that ye may heal others.

R1. 4/14/42 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

NEW YORK

Dear Hugh Lynn:

I have just received the physical check made by Edgar last Saturday. I shall, of course, make every effort to follow the instructions, but it is impossible for me to do so without the help and cooperation of a doctor, as the amounts of the several preparations to be used as a spray were not given, nor was I told what the “Elliott Machine” is or where it can be obtained. As my regular physician is most unsympathetic to this procedure on my part I cannot ask her cooperation. I did so once and it was refused. I shall not, therefore, place myself in the embarrassing position of repeating the request.

As I understand it there are D’s here who ARE sympathetic to your father’s readings, and who are willing to cooperate in making them effective. If you know of such an one, and know him to also be an accredited medical man I will appreciate his name. Also his charges if you know them. And will you send this to me at once that I may try to get started on the treatment prescribed?

When you come up here I would like very much to go through this reading with you as there are some things in it I do not understand. I have not the same interpretative ability in the analysis of the physical readings I seem to have in the others.

Saturday’s explanation of why help was not forthcoming in my former physical reading and “checks” is most interesting. I always suspected that Dr. Mary Miller failed to follow the instructions as accurately as she should have done. When I once asked her if she was doing so she said: “in a general way”. Yet I paid her nearly two hundred dollars through two winters to follow the readings in detailed accuracy! Well, that is water under the mill, and no use repining over it now. But the explanation is illuminating altho there are parts of it I do not understand. Perhaps you may be able to help me do so.

Please thank your father for the reading, and tell him I shall make every effort humanly possible to carry out its instructions as soon as I can find a doctor who will give me the proper amounts of the ingredients which are to be combined, and when I can learn about the “Elliott Machine”, of which I have never heard. Maybe YOU already know about this?

As I want to get this in the mail at once I will not write more, except to tell you I had V. Perry Sargent (Mrs. Strickland) her mother and aunt as my guests on the … yesterday afternoon, and afterward for a visit in my apartment where we had a long talk. It was my first meeting with them. R2. 4/15/42 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

NEW YORK

Edgar dear:

I received the reading yesterday, and your note this morning. I am wondering IF YOU READ what the “Information” had to say? It is most interesting, but requires a lot of study. At least it does for me.

The instructions for treatment given me cannot be carried out without a doctor’s help, because the amounts of each ingredient to be used was not stated in the reading, and I would have no idea of how much of each to use, as I know nothing of such things as ichthyol and the Elliott Machine. I therefore sent a special delivery to Hugh Lynn yesterday asking the name of some doctor here who would be willing to collaborate in interpreting the instructions given. Dr. Irene Gates, who has been my physician for years is totally unsympathetic to your procedure and the information received through it, and has told me formerly in no uncertain terms that she will have nothing whatever to do with it. She said if I wanted “to follow such dangerous procedures” (dangerous because unaccepted by the medical profession, of course) that is my privilege, but that SHE could certainly have no part in it. This is why I asked in my questions for the Saturday reading to have a suggestion as to some doctor who is more open-minded and progressive. To be told that this is something I will have to choose for myself leaves me up against a blank wall, unless you or Hugh Lynn can suggest some one, as I have not the foggiest idea of who might be willing to help me with the medical end of the reading.

Naturally I want to follow the instructions given or I would not have had the reading. It is also evident from the fact of my asking for it that I have faith in help through it. Since receiving it I have an even greater faith that I, - like others, - can secure this help IF I can learn enough to properly apply what has been given, or find a doctor who will tell me how to do so, and give me the proper assistance. I therefore greatly hope you, or Hugh Lynn, can suggest some one since the “Information” declined to do so. Do you think this refusal was due to the fact that Dr. Mary Miller was suggested in former readings and evidently did not follow instructions? Of course I thought she was following them until toward the end. By that time I had paid her about two hundred dollars; was getting no better; so I asked her if she had been accurate in following the instructions given in the several readings, or “checks”. She said she she “had followed them in a general way”, which was obviously not good enough.

It would seem from all this that the urgent need of the Association is a trained staff of medical men who will follow the readings without varying them to meet their own ideas of what should be done, as I feel sure Dr. Miller did in my case.

Anyway it is helpful to know that the failure was not due to any lack of cooperation on my own part. Had I been told that I did not carry out instructions as far as I understood them I would have had no further faith in a physical reading, or “check”, because I was so very faithful in doing so for two entire years, and was terribly disappointed in the result. Of course I KNEW IT WAS NO FAULT OF YOURS. I ALSO KNEW I WAS DOING ALL I HAD BEEN TOLD TO DO. So it is very helpful to me now to learn that the trouble was due to those who did not give the treatments AS THEY WERE INSTRUCTED BY THE READINGS TO DO. It makes me feel A HOPE that I can NOW find some one who will wholeheartedly cooperate. If I can I shall follow the new reading minutely. It means a great deal to me, because I candidly do not see how I can function effectually in my work; in my service; in my personal contacts, or along any path of my life unless I can at least partially recover my health. Certainly I could not undertake living in my house down there ALONE as things now are. For that I will need health and vitality to make of the little place a true center of enlightenment and helpfulness to others. SINCE THIS IS MY PURPOSE FOR THE PLACE I am thrilled over the report regarding the purchase as contained for the information given Saturday in the reading regarding it.

The thing that puzzles me most is HOW to bring about a greater synchronization of my spiritual and physical bodies. The “check” repeats things said in my original physical reading, and subsequent “checks” regarding a lack of attunement between the physical elements and the spiritual elements of my nature. I am not conscious of any disharmony between them, except as the diseased conditions of my body make me conscious that I am physically way below par, while spiritually I sometimes rise to considerable heights. But, NOT KNOWING THE CAUSE OF THIS, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT IT. The reading tells me this should be corrected, but offers no information as to HOW IT CAN BE DONE. Should YOU have any thought or illumination for this side of things do let me know. The “Information” states that I must pass judgement on this myself. Well, Edgar dear, I have spent many an hour analyzing the discrepancy between my physical and spiritual life in an effort to discover the cause. I believe I am willing AND EAGER to face up to my shortcomings. I know them to be many, and WHERE I KNOW JUST WHAT THEY ARE. I try daily and most earnestly and sincerely to correct them. What more I can do I do not know. So, this part of the reading I am taking to my Creative Source - my Lord and my God, - asking for illumination and help. Will you, too, pray that I may receive the knowledge and illumination I need to bring about a better synchronization of spirit and body?

I an inclosing a letter [1100] wrote me from Pittsburgh last Sunday night. She and […] drove down there from Cleveland to hear McDermott lecture, and I think you will be interested in seeing what she says about him. I am puzzled by HIS feeling that he would incur Karma by having a “Life Reading” from you. I have marked the passage in […]‘s letter referring to this. I do not see how such a thing is possible, do you? You need not return the letter. Just destroy it when through with it. I know […] will not mind my sending it to you, as she has given me permission to send you anything of hers I like at any time.

Your note said nothing of Edgar Evans. Has he gotten home? Do write me about him, and all else of interest down there.

Dear [1472]

Have yours of the 15th. Saw your letter to H. L. he promised to write you. He should know better than any one whom to send you to, as he has been in touch with the Dr.’s there more than I have. But, poor child, he is so worried about this board here and is kept so busy with the affairs of the city - don’t think he has time to think. They recently have put some Gov. [gov’t] employees under him - the latest being some producer from N.Y. that will work up some play here about. But hope he will get to it soon - in the mean time will do best can to advise you [1472]; we have had quite a bit of correspondence with Dr. Fenton Taylor, 115 East 61st St. While he is, I think, primarily a surgeon, [I] believe if you would see him discuss your reading with him - he will be better able to tell you where to go and to whom better than any one else that I know of. Possibly may be able to give you the treatments himself. Do not know. I know this if I had to have any thing done for myself would rather risk this man than any one I know. He has had readings so you need not fear talking to him about same - he will not think you out of the way. There was a man there we knew who used the Elliott Machine, but do not think he is living now - but think Dr. Taylor can tell you about this and to advise you which treatment to take. See him! Believe this will help you get straight, and feel very sure you can rely on what Dr. Taylor tells you.

Will write Dr. Taylor today asking him to advise with you regarding your reading.

It is hard for me to say why the information refuses to give any special one in some cases and in others is so specific about such - wish I even had an idea about same. While I try and analyze the information as much as can, but to judge even the readings by the readings is possibly not always wise unless one has specific instances they can check on and there has been so few times the readings have failed to say to whom to go. It is hard to say, for it has often picked people whom we never heard tell of, and they have proven fine, when so given. But why it would not when it was specifically asked in this case I do not know - may [be] by comparison at some future time be better able to form an opinion.

Yes - to be sure - the ideal way would be to have a staff of Dr.’s to whom we might refer people. Had a very interesting experience in this connection with a person in Philadelphia recently. Told this lady to go to a certain Dr. and he would tell her to whom to go to get certain parts of the treatment. She went to that Dr. and the one to whom she was referred has become very much interested - has been responsible already for 6 people having readings (physicals) tho she has not been the one to whom all of those give readings for have been sent.

No, have never felt it was your fault that you haven’t gotten results with your readings. But has worried me no little that you had not, but just what to do about it - haven’t quite known. But hope we are on the right track and hope you will now soon see results as so many others say they have.

Yes, the best of health is the only way one may do their best work and you will especially wish to have the best of health when you come to live in your home here… This may be a crazy idea but have often felt the reason I am not conscious (or one of the reasons) is that only in the unconscious may I be perfectly well - and part of the suggestion is that I will be perfectly normal. And when the body can’t get into that state for a reading - then just can’t even attempt one. May be all wrong, but an idea, at least of mine. For would like to remember what was said or be conscious of some of the experiences. But to have an experience is rare regards a physical reading of is something else entirely if at all.

The above may apply to synchronizing the physical and the Spiritual do not know. But believe this is something no one may tell us how to do. Must be done within self - to be sure one may set formulas that might work, but we are so proned under such circumstances to give the credit to the formula and not to the real source of supply. For am sure it is comprised in the statement - My spirit beareth witness with thy Spirit - whether ye be the Children of God or not

• and when one uses some man suggested formula - well, it is the blind leading the blind - this am sure may be all in my own mind and nothing more. And maybe just that I am excusing the lack of wisdom in my own experience. Am sure many see it that way, at least. But to me the Christ Consciousness is so personal. Do not feel any one can give another other than the suggestion - seek within.

Thanks very much for the letter from Mrs. [1100]. They are such lovely people, and think so much of each of them. Do not understand about Mr. McDermott’s position. Suppose it is one’s idea of Karma - does one live by law alone. To be sure Karma is there and rules - does one live by Faith and Grace - it isn’t effective. Will always be present to be sure, so long as in the Earth. But the variation of one’s mind, I guess. Would like to discuss that with him - but seems to be the idea to me most students of Theosophy have. They may be right, but I see it differently.

E. E. came home last Sat. night, he was commissioned that day. Will be here until next Sunday, has not been assigned to any post as yet. So will report back to same camp. Looks fine, but you can possibly imagine how his Mother feels, especially when the other boy is about to be called also.

Thanks again, [1472] for every thing. Do hope your going to Dr. Taylor will work out right. Will check up again soon after you get started and not have you pay out for something that is not being done again.

R4. 4/19/42 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

NEW YORK

Dear Edgar:

Thanks for your nice long letter.

I phoned Dr. Taylor at once, and he very generously offered to come down to the apartment for a discussion of the physical “check” reading you gave me April 11th. After studying it carefully he said the instructions for the sinus treatment are not sufficiently clear for even a doctor to follow without injecting his (the doctor’s) own opinions and procedures. As he shares my feeling that the “Reading” should be ACCURATELY followed to get the results promised, he suggested that I send you a group of questions which will clarify the instructions given.

As your letter expressed the wish to follow through with any procedure which may insure the help desired so urgently by me, I have prepared the questions Dr. Taylor suggested I ask, adding one or two others I have since thought of. If, therefore, you will give me another “check” reading to get these answered I will be most grateful, for, as the reading of the 11th now stands, neither Dr. Taylor nor I can figure out the instructions with any assurance of accuracy.

I cannot be home for a further reading until Saturday afternoon, the 25th, IF IT MUST BE GIVEN AT THREE O’CLOCK. I can be home ANY AFTERNOON BY 5:15 if that would not be too late for you to give the “check”. Since it would not be a full length reading, perhaps it would not tax you to give it that late. If you feel it would I will wait until Saturday afternoon, if you would then be free to do it. Just let me know which to do, and if it is to be at 5:15 any afternoon, give me time to get your letter so that I will be sure to be home for it.

As I am going out to see my little family to-day I have not time to answer your letter in full, but will do so later. I am very appreciative of your kindness in writing Dr. Taylor. He was lovely about it all; charged me nothing for his visit, and I enjoyed my talk with him, - quite aside from the discussion of the reading, - finding myself very enrapport with his concepts.

You’ll find the questions Dr. Taylor suggests inclosed, and you’ll be hearing further from me in a few days. In the meantime my love to all of you always.
