This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of April, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1472], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of reading 3:25 to 3:40 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [1472], New York City. To clarify instructions given in her Physical Check Reading on April 11th, Dr. Fenton Taylor of New York would like the following questions answered:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind; together with the information as given regarding the body, [1472].
-
While there has been and is the production of monolated Ichthyol, it may require some time to obtain same.
-
Hence, the use of the Elliott Machine with the antrum tubes - with the use of the correct solutions, to be sure - the fifteen to twenty percent saline solution with the other combinations that usually go with same - this given daily for at least a week to ten days - would be the better manner for reducing and correcting the disturbances.
-
Also with this we would use an inhalant; not a spray, but the fumes inhaled that arise from this combination of ingredients in a six ounce container prepared with two vents in the cork of same so that it may be corked when not in use, - neither of the tubes entering the solution, to be sure, but the vacuum above same.
-
To 4 ounces of at least 90% Pure Grain Alcohol, add - in the order named:
Oil of Eucalyptus…20 drops, Rectified Creosote…3 drops, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…15 drops, Rectified Oil of Turp…10 drops.
Shake the solution, then remove the corks and inhale through the nostril AND into the throat, once or twice through each nostril, once or twice for the purifying of the throat.
-
As to the hydrotherapy indicated, - this should include a light sweat AND a thorough rubdown with THESE combinations of oils:
-
To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil as the base, add - in the order named:
Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Oil of Lanolin, liquified…1/4 ounce.
-
Shake these thoroughly together before a small quantity is poured into an open container to be massaged especially along the spine, around the neck, and over the chest.
-
These will aid in stimulating the circulation and prove beneficial for the body.
-
The high colonics may be occasionally given, but these should NOT be as oft as the general therapy - for these, the general hydrotherapy treatments, would be given at least once a week. The colonics would be given according to the conditions existing in the general eliminating system; the first two, to remove all the mucous from the colon, would be closer together - but the others not closer than a month or six weeks apart.
-
Do these.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is Dr. Taylor correct in his belief that I have no serious adhesions in the pelvic region, or elsewhere? (A) As we find, with these general applications it will be proven that this is correct.
-
(Q) Dr. Taylor suggests sulfadizine treatment for sinus and other possible infections. Would it be advisable to take it? (A) As we find, in this PARTICULAR instance this is not the best, - it would be rather severe and NOT as good as the use of the heat treatment with the inhalation suggested. This is not to be a spray, now, but merely the inhaling tubes suspended and only the aroma inhaled and the effective activity of same that arises when the solution is shaken. Keep the small openings or corks closed when not in use. DO put the solution in a container almost twice the size of the quantity of liquid.
-
(Q) Any other advice? (A) Do these consistently, and we should find relief.
Of course, plenty of vegetables are advised that add to the stimulation to the activity of the sensory system; that is, at least one meal each day should consist in part of lettuce (preferably the green, rather than that which has been bleached). Also plums, pears and yellow peaches and other fruits should be included as the season progresses - but these as the main ones.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 5/1/42 [1472]‘s ltr. to Dr. Taylor:
Dear Dr. Taylor:
Many thanks for your kind letter. It is very good of you to thus help me experiment with the Cayce “reading”. However, I have struck a serious snag.
Upon investigation I find the Elliott Machine is no longer manufactured, and even if it were the purchase of one would be impractical for two reasons.
First: They cost $150: which would be more than I could afford to pay for a ten day treatment.
Second: I am told the equipment is such that I could not use it myself, but would require a doctor to do so.
A personal friend is Manager of one of the Liggett stores. He tells me that the machine is part of the office equipment of many doctors, altho not usually used in any ear or nose treatment. He said Bellevue Hospital uses the Elliott Machine in their Physiotherapy Dept., and suggested I call Dr. Billing, who is head of that division.
I called Dr. Billing this morning. Realizing he would probably be prejudiced against anything coming through Mr. Cayce, I merely said “an out-of-town doctor friend has suggested the use of the Elliott Machine treatment for a chronic sinus infection from which I suffer”, and asked if the treatment would be available at the hospital, or if he could tell me of any doctor who has the machine, and could give me the treatment.
Dr. Billing said yes, Bellevue has an Elliott Machine, but that it is not used for sinus treatment. I asked if he would be willing to thus use it, and he said he would not. I then asked if he knows any doctor who would do so, and the reply was again no. Then he launched forth on the various regulation treatments for sinus, such as I have already had with no permanent help.
In view of all this, would you further help me by telling me of any doctor you think may have the equipment, and who would be cooperative enough to use it as outlined in my Cayce “reading”? I hate bothering you again, but I am very eager to give this thing a try. Knowing without any shadow of doubt of complete cures that have come to my own personal friends through the Cayce suggestions I do want to give myself a sporting chance with those given me.
Thanking you again for all your kindness and courtesy in the matter, I am Yours gratefully, [1472]
R2. 5/7/42 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Edgar:
I have been wanting to write you since the second “check” came to clarify the instructions of the first. While it did this as far as the quantities of things is concerned it gave no information as to where the Elliott Machine treatment can be obtained.
I have moved heaven and earth to get this treatment, as it seems the main thing in the “reading”, nullifying any value of the information given if the machine cannot be secured for treatment.
I am inclosing the carbon copy of a letter written Dr. Taylor a week ago as it will explain the situation. He has not answered it or phone me, so I judge he does not want to be bothered further. This makes me sorry I wrote him again as per inclosure. However, he was so nice about it when he came down to see me after the first “check reading”, and then offered to do whatever he could to help, that I felt I might take my further problem to him. Please don’t write him again in my behalf, as I would not wish to be a nuisance. I offered twice to pay him, and he refused remuneration for the help, so I feel I have done all I can.
I am still making inquiries, but there seems little hope of getting the treatment recommended. It is a puzzle to me that such a treatment would be suggested when the machine is no longer manufactured, unless proper information was given at the same time as to where the treatment could be secured.
Well, I guess I’ll “call it a day” with attempts at physical readings if I now fail to find any one possessing an Elliott Machine who is willing to use it as directed for me. I feel very discouraged about it all. However, I am following the reading literally and faithfully for the rest of the treatment prescribed, altho I am sure the Elliott Machine business is the main thing recommended, and maybe I will yet be able to find somebody having the apparatus and willing to use it for me. Certainly that Dr. Billing at Bellevue Hospital was nasty enough when I asked him to do so. This was because he has never heard of using the Elliott Machine for SINUS, and said THE TREATMENT HE DOES USE is much better. I am afraid I’ll not find a doctor willing to give me the treatment even if I find one who has the equipment, and both the laboratory formerly manufacturing the machine and my druggist here tell me I COULD NOT DO THE TREATMENTS MYSELF.
R3. 5/18/42 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Edgar:
The demands upon my time and strength during the past two weeks have been so great that it has been impossible to write any personal letter that did not absolutely have to be written. Hence my failure to write you at once in reply to yours of the 11th Inst.
Further investigation re the Elliott Machine and the Monolated Ichthyol prescribed in my two recent readings, make the possibility of using either for the sinus very remote. I am told by the hospital heads of several of the best hospitals here that the Elliott Machine cannot be used for sinus as the tubes are too large to enter the nose. And that even if this were not so it would be inadvisable to try it. I would not let this opinion interfere however, if I knew any doctor possessing the machine who might be willing to use it for me. I am wondering if the two people your letter mentions as having come to New York from Washington for this treatment could tell you just who gave it to them, and give you the address for me. If you have their addresses, will you try to find out for me.
I have heard nothing further from Dr. Taylor. He never answered the letter of which I sent you the copy. I judge he felt he had done enough, and I feel embarrassed to have asked his further help. However, I did offer twice to pay him for it, and if he would not accept remuneration, that was not my fault.
I have wondered, Edgar, why the questions I sent for my second “check” reading were not asked? My very first question asked if monolated ichthyol could not be obtained if straight Ichthyol could be used, and if so what oils should be used as a base. As the Ichthyol spray was recommended as an alternation for the Elliott Machine, it might have been used had this question been asked and answered, Monolated Ichthyol is no longer obtainable. The questions following related to this one, so I judge they were not asked because this one was not. It does seem too bad not to be able to follow the instructions given, but I have tried every way I know to locate a doctor with an Elliott Machine who would use it for sinus irrigation without success. Also I tried to get the monolated Ichthyol through a druggist who is a good friend, and who made a thorough search of the laboratories and manufacturers for it. I am doing the other things recommended, such as the massages, and the stuff to inhale through the nose, but these are but minor parts of the treatment. I have, however, gotten the vitamin A. capsules from the Oregon laboratory and am taking them. I AM feeling a bit better, but this I do for a day or so, and then go down again.
Well, that’s enough about my body.
McDermott [Raymond McDermott, blind astrologer] did a swell job on my natal horoscope. He wrote about twenty-five thousand words in his analysis of it, and it is a masterpiece of astrological learning. He plans a trip to Sunbury, Pa. soon. As this is much nearer than Pittsburgh I hope to get there to meet him when he is there.
Now for something which will interest you. When I told Flower Newhouse last Fall that I thought of buying a place at Virginia Beach she said it was not the locality for me. I did not ask her why at the time, and thought little about it. However, since I did actually buy the house over by Crystal Lake I recently asked her why she said that. I am going to quote from her reply: Here is what she wrote:
“When we talked that night in September in my hotel bedroom, at your mention of the possibility of your living down at Virginia Beach, I saw a red curtain trying to enclose you, and then I heard the word ‘scandal’. It is a habit of mine to turn these things off so that I am not influenced by negatives. I would interpret this experience as a premonition of some power in that area bringing you in contact with a scandal. Whether this would come to you through friends, or through the events which touched the Cayces, I do not know. But do treat strongly for your safe- enfolding, and theirs. Never in my whole life have I been deceived or misled by such prophetic warnings”.
Now what do you think of that, Edgar? Seems strange after all my beautiful sense of rightness in buying the place; [1100]‘s lovely experiences about it, and your assurance that it is the aerial center of the White Brotherhood, doesn’t it? I would certainly like your reaction and opinion of Flower’s experience, for she is 100% honest and pure and true, and if she says she had this experience she had it, and that’s all there is about it. But the interpretation may be something other than the one she has given. However, if she heard the word “scandal” it would seem to indicate that her interpretation is correct. Well, it beats me!!
I wonder if you’d mind showing this letter to Hugh Lynn? I haven’t time to write him separately, and I’d like him to know all that is contained herein.
Where is Edgar Evans to be married? And will you and Gertrude attend the wedding? And what about the Congress? Is it to be held this year? I have twice asked Hugh Lynn to send me some of the little brochures to stick in letters, and he has not done so. Please get somebody to do it, as I have other people who are willing to send them out in their letters, and I am entirely out of them.
With lots of love to all of you from [1472]
R4. 5/20/42 EC’s ltr. to [1472]:
Dear [1472]:
Have yours of the 18th. Certainly do not understand about the Elliott machine, have never known the readings to give anything for help that could not be gotten - save once and then they were told how to make that. But suppose that there has to be a first time some time - but why did it have to be for my best friend and one am most anxious to be of help to. When I saw the machine used it was operated by the maker Dr. Elliott who was working with Dr. I. Daniel Shorell the office was then on Park Ave., but have since moved do not know where he is at present. Am perfectly aware the machine was made for other purposes - especially for Female troubles, BUT do know there were appliances made for the treatment of sinus trouble - for as said have seen it used. The machines were made by the Westernhouse [Westinghouse?] Electric Co. Met the man who had much to do with the development of the appliances for other kinds of treatment. Possibly they are out of use now that do not know. Sorry wish knew what to say or do.
As for the questions - when it had intimated or said what treatment to use Gertrude did not wish to risk getting the balling out the information sometimes gives by asking about something else for treatment when it had said what to use - will be glad to check up now and make a list of questions - asking why and etc. if you will let us, or have the time to give to it next Sat. afternoon will you let me know if that suits you - do not like to leave anything in such a undecided way as this.
Don’t understand about Mrs. Newhouse - she may be exactly right - but feel there must be something amiss. Do not feel that Mrs. [1100] and I would both have gotten the same thing if there was anything amiss - may have been an influence from the thing you warned me and H. L. also about the paper who wished to interview the work have seen nothing of them - tho there was one man the editor of the American Astrologer who started here, and was stopped on the way and had to go back to N.Y. the Business manager came on - but he only had a reading, sponsored by [2897] - a Life reading, seemingly a very nice man an Englishman a Mr. [2747], he was on way to Fla., and now on way to Cal. Think you have met him he has at least heard you speak.
Don’t understand the experience - one of those times you will have to be guided by your own intuition and experience am sure.
E. E. is to be married on the 13th here at the Beach at the church I believe as the young lady sings in the choir. They are supposed to fly back to Boston. Don’t know what - if the army has taken over the Air Lines by that time but he already has reservation for that date.
The notice about the Congress goes out tomorrow it is to be the 19th and 20th of June. Don’t know how many can come owing to the tire and Gas rationing, but have to have the meeting of the Board and would like to keep the meeting up for ten years at least and this is the tenth, Annual meeting. Hope it will work out alright - do wish you might be with us
- can’t you do that for that weekend Friday and Sat. it is try and come if at all possible.
So sorry about the reading - let us try and get this straightened out if possible.
With love from all.
Ever the same, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R5. 5/22/42 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Edgar dear:
As there was not time to reach you by letter after receiving yours of the 20th this morning, I wired you that I cannot have a reading to-morrow. The reasons are two. In the first place I am going out of town for the afternoon and evening. This engagement could have been cancelled, and it would have been cancelled, were it not for the second and more important reason, which is that I have gone back to my regular doctor, and she thinks I am in such serious internal difficulties she is having all sorts of X-Rays made of my “innards” to-morrow morning. If, therefore, we are to straighten out the last two readings as you express the wish to do, it had best be after we get the verdict of the X-Rays.
Thanks very much for telling me about Dr. I. Daniel Shorell. I find he is in the phone book, and as soon as all this other mess is cleared up I will get in touch with him. It is obvious that those hospitals which possess an Elliott Machine know nothing of the antrum tubes for it, as they each said it cannot be used for nose irrigation. But if Dr. Shorell collaborated with Elliott in treating patients for sinus difficulties, he will probably be willing to give me the treatment if he has a machine. However, I can bear the sinus for the present. It is no worse than always, being a chronic condition which only becomes acute if I take a cold. So we will just let the effort to treat this rest until I learn what is the matter with my female organs, and my back. Dr.
Gates says the pain in the back is due to ARTHRITIS OF THE SACROILIAC, which is one of the most painful things possible. Well, whatever it is, it is certainly torture. Also the left kidney is aching horribly again. So we will see what the X-Rays have to say. Not that I think they are always right, but it is what my doctor wants, and what she says she MUST HAVE to intelligently treat me, so I am let in for a hundred dollars worth of them to-morrow, and Heaven knows what more after they have been taken. I mean by way of treatment. however, I will try not to cross bridges until I get to them.
All this terrific expense piled on me just after paying off the mortgage on my house down there would make it impossible for me to come to the Congress, even if I had the strength, which I do not have right now. What I can command must be husbanded for my work, for it is just all I can do to get through each day in my office in present conditions. I have been to bed at seven o’clock every night this week, eating my dinner at six and going right to bed. Only thus have I been able to get along at all.
Neither do I understand about Flower Newhouse and her vision. But I do not believe that red curtain she saw enveloping me is anything to fear. You know, Edgar, it is my earnest conviction that we have nothing to fear from either person, place or thing AS LONG AS WE ARE RIGHT WITH GOD AND OURSELVES. I try to be that. So I shall certainly act precisely as I would do had I heard nothing of Flower’s curious vision. It doubtless has some meaning, but since I am unable to interpret that meaning, I do not propose to worry about it.
As we are entertaining a big South American delegation on the … in an hour I must cut this short, and get ready to receive them.
Love to all of you from
Yours in abiding friendship, [1472]
R6. 5/29/42 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Edgar:
I found your letter when I reached home last night, and, as usual, was glad to hear from you.
In writing you as I did regarding the questions submitted for the second “check” to clarify the first one, I felt no particle of criticism for either you or Gertrude. I know always that anything you do is according to your best judgement, just as anything I say is intended for the interests of the work as much as it is for my own, for I know you want to perfect the “readings” more than any one else can possibly want to have them effective, as it is YOUR WORK. Hence my question of the reason the first four of seven questions I asked were not presented. I appreciate the answer, but none of them suggested anything that had not been told me in the first “reading.” In one place in the first “check” it said use EITHER the monolated Ichthyol spray OR the Elliott Machine treatment. In another place it said use ALL. Hence the questions relating to this.
Well, a curious thing has happened about the Elliott Machine. I did not even ASK Dr. Irene Gates (my own doctor) if she had one or knew where one could be obtained because when I asked her four years ago to cooperate with one of your “physical checks” for me she refused point blank, and has since indicated that she thinks I do myself possible injury by believing in things gained through any information which cannot be proven. However, when I was in her office yesterday morning to see the X-Rays, I did ask her if she had ever heard of the Elliott Machine being used for sinus infection. I did not mention YOU IN ANY WAY, just said I knew of cases which had been cured by this treatment, and felt I would like to try it. She laughed, and said yes, she has the machine herself, but that it has been packed away for years because the failures through it were many times more than the successes. She said she had originally had the antrum tubes for it, but has none now. Said one single patient she had treated with it got well, but that all the others were made worse. She said that my own nose, ear and throat specialist [Ann Belcher] also has the machine, but refuses to use it now because her experiments with it increased sinus trouble instead of helping it.
I asked Dr. Gates if she would be willing to give me some treatments with hers, and she said she will do so if I will take the full responsibility for them, and if she can now buy new antrum tubes. I agreed gladly to take the responsibility, and she has promised to write to St. Louis (where the tubes can possibly be procured) for them, but that it will take several weeks to get them, if at all. Dr. Gates says she knows Dr. Elliott, and the reason the machine is no longer manufactured is that it is out-moded by so much more progressive treatment for sinus. Nevertheless she agrees to try it for me if she can get the tubes, and I had much rather she gave me the treatment than some one else if possible. If she fails in getting the tubs I will then try to get in touch with Dr. Shorell.
Now that I have told you about this I will report on the X-Rays. I am pretty “blue” over them, for they show a grave condition of the left kidney. There is a large stone in it, and this is surrounded by a wide area of infection. With two such major seats of infection as the kidney and the sinuses, there seems little wonder that I have been suffering so much pain, and so generally miserable. Of course an operation is recommended, but first she wants a kidney specialist to make a cystoscopic examination. This means putting an instrument through the bladder into the kidney and I understand is excruciating pain. I am in such a nervous, run-down state from months of suffering I just don’t feel equal to the cystoscopic, and have refused to submit to it FOR THE PRESENT. In the meantime Dr. Gates is giving me a powerful antiseptic for the kidney, altho she says it will do no PERMANENT good.
In a “physical check” I had Oct. 8th, 1938 [1472-7], the “Information” said what appeared a stone in the kidney was a pus capsule “arising from the accumulation of inflammatory forces in the form of pus in portions of the capsules of the kidney”. (I have quoted the actual words), and, as you know, I then accepted this, disbelieved in the stone, and followed the instructions given me in the “reading” to the utmost of my ability. I have had no further X-Rays until now, but those taken last Saturday certainly show A GREAT INCREASE IN THE SIZE OF THE STONE, AND A MUCH WIDER AREA OF INFECTION. Dr. Gates says if I do not have an operation now it will grow worse and worse until I am FORCED to do it in much more trying conditions than at present.
In my “physical check” of April 11, 1942 [1472-14] I asked one definite question about the kidney, and pain in pelvis and back. The answer was: “Result of general condition in system attempting to eliminate the poison created by infection and the infected parts through the system.” NO MENTION WAS MADE OF A STONE, OR THE SPECIAL AREA OF INFECTION AROUND IT, which seems to me terribly strange IF the thing IS a stone, FOR IN THIS CASE I AM FACED WITH A MAJOR OPERATION, and I just feel desperate in knowing what I should do. Both as a friend, and because of all the “physical readings” I have had, I am asking what you think I should now do. I would also like Hugh Lynn’s opinion.
As I must leave to deliver a lecture in a few minutes I cannot write more now, except just to say I share your regret that I cannot come to the congress. I think [1100] and Mrs. [2441] intend coming. You will also be interested to know that I have at last heard from Mrs. [2174] but merely to tell me about her new school and ask me to make it known as much as possible. She spoke beautifully of you in her letter, - as why shouldn’t she?
Devotedly, [1472]
R7. 6/2/42 EC’s ltr. to [1472]:
Dear [1472]:
Have yours of the 29th - am distressed to hear the Dr. thinks so seriously of your condition, hope it is not as bad as it has been pictured for you, while if the stone is already there there possibly isn’t much to be done save operation tho have had a case where it was so treated as to be passed by the patient [1103] - but would never suggest anything of the kind - for realize it is contrary to all the Dr. might tell you - tho know it to be a fact.
Glad you found there was such a thing as the Elliott machine and that it had at least been used for Sinus trouble.
Do hope something may be done for you but if they are sure the stone has already formed - not much to be done save the operation. Tho it may only have been inflammation in 38, for such things may form very suddenly as I have been told by those who are supposed to know.
If you have to have the operation the sooner the better provided the blood is in condition for same - that may be tested for ability to coagulate and that is best way to find out.
Have been under the weather for a week or more - have a touch of Colitis and with my old trouble from operation some years ago hasn’t made me feel very good. Gertrude isn’t so well today - had hard weekend. Hope Mrs. [1100] and Mrs. [2441] can make it to Congress - too bad you can’t make it but you must take care of yourself now and don’t keep going and so overtax yourself as to make it the harder for system to adjust itself.
Do let me hear how you are for will be anxious you know.
Love from all here.
With love, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R8. 6/5/42 [1742]‘s ltr. to EC: Edith Ellis asked me last week if she might ask Wilfred Brandon to have a doctor of the White Brotherhood check my condition. Brandon is supposed to be a Master of the White Brotherhood. It is he who has given Edith the three books published by Knopf (“Open the Door”; “Reincarnation”, and “We Knew These Men”) I told her to go ahead, and she later sent me Brandon’s report.
This report said a kidney specialist had made the examination and that HE FOUND THE STONE shown by the X-Rays, as well as the area of infection. He prescribed practically the same diet given me in your recent “physical check” for me except that he said I should eat no meat, fish, or white of eggs, but plenty of vegetables, fruits, cheese, milk, and egg yolks. And that I should take a tablespoonful of olive oil twenty minutes before breakfast; twenty before lunch and again before going to bed at night. He said if I follow this procedure for four months it will loosen the stone and it will pass, and after that the infection will also clear.
A few nights later I spent an evening with Mrs. [Eleanor] Carlton Cooley, and English woman who now lives in New York. Her husband is a noted composer and musician, and Mrs. Cooley is a student of occultism and a very learned astrologist. I told her both about the two “readings” you gave me recently, and the result of the White Brotherhood doctor’s diagnosis, and Mrs. Cooley told me she was a nurse in London before her marriage and that she had seen kidney stones broken up and passed by this olive oil treatment, and that she had known SEVERE CASES OF GALL STONES SIMILARLY GOT RID OF. I am telling you this because it is my understanding that you have gall stones. If so you might like to have a reading for yourself and ask if it would help you. It sounds reasonable, and I am trying it, altho I do not know whether I can take it four months or not as it nauseates me terribly.
In spite of all this I still doubt if the spot shown by the X-Rays IS a stone because I feel I would have been told so in your recent “readings” had it been. I asked a straight- forward question as to the cause of the ache and pain in my kidney, back and pelvis and was only told that it is due to infections which will clear when the sinus infection clears. It does seem to me IF I HAVE A STONE the information would have said so. Don’t you think it would? Since it did NOT say so I feel inclined to doubt the doctors, - both those here and those on the Etheric plane. However, the treatment prescribed by the Etheric doctor in no way interferes with that recommended in you “physical checks”, and some of it coincides with what your information said, so I shall make the effort to down the olive oil and see what happens. In the meantime I shall, of course, not have an operation, and as soon as Dr. Gates can get the antrum tubes for her Elliott Machine I will start that treatment and follow the rest of the recent “reading” suggestions.
I am going to Sunbury, Pa. this afternoon to see Raymond McDermott. He is visiting there. I shall not visit his friends but stop at a hotel over the week-end and thus be able to have him to myself to-morrow and Sunday. Sunbury is a five hour ride by train from New York, but even so I feel I shall be justified in granting Mr. McDermott’s request to come, as he seems to have a vast fund of knowledge in subjects which especially interest me. The horoscope he did for me is a masterpiece. It is about TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND WORDS LONG, and a magnificent piece of work.
R9. 6/17/42 [1742]‘s ltr. to EC:
New York
Dear Edgar:
Well, after all, I’ll be giving you a nice fat hug Saturday afternoon. I certainly have made a fight to get there, and persistence would seem to have succeeded, for my tickets are now bought and Hugh Lynn has again made my reservation at the Essex House, where the Dillmans will already be installed by the time I get there.
Will you please reserve a period for another “physical check” some time next week? I am DETERMINED to straighten out the recent physical readings IF I CAN, for it is just incomprehensible to me that nothing should have been said about the stone in the kidney with the infected area which the X-Ray shows, IF IT REALLY IS A STONE the picture gives in large size. I ASKED A DEFINITE QUESTION ABOUT THE KIDNEY in my first “physical check” of recent date and absolutely nothing was said in reply to indicate the stone. I shall think out my questions regarding this, and others to get the last two “checks” straightened out and be there myself to inject any other that the reading itself may make advisable.
I am inclosing a letter received this morning from Dr. Enid Smith. I hope Mrs. Emmet will be down there for the Congress, and that I will have a chance to talk to her about Dr. Smith, as I think they would work well together.
If you have a free period MONDAY, TUESDAY, or WEDNESDAY one of those days for another “check” for me would be best as I am not sure how much longer than Wednesday I shall be able to stay, altho I HOPE TO DO SO UNTIL FRIDAY.
As I will be seeing you so soon, I’ll leave the balance until then. Hugh Lynn phoned me this morning and is having dinner with me to-night. I’ll be glad to see him.
Hoping both you and Gertrude are your WELL selves again, I am
Yours in everlasting friendship, [1472]

1: To clarify instructions given in physical check reading for [1472], April 11th, 1942, Dr. Fenton Taylor, of New York, would like the following questions answered:
a: If monolated ichthyol cannot be obtained for nose spray recommended for sinus condition, will straight ichthyol do? If so what percentage of Ichthyol should be used, and what oils should be used as a base, and in what proportions?
b: Should aromatic oils be added and if so which ones and how much of each?
2: Should both Elliott Machine irrigation and ichthyol spray be used, and if so should they be used at the same time, and in what order? Dr. Taylor assumes it is meant to follow Elliott Machine irrigation with ichthyol spray, using both at same time every other day. Is this correct?
2 1/2: Should saline solution or just plain water be used in irrigation for nasal passages & sinuses? If saline, what proportions?
3: Would it be as satisfactory to use dropper in nose for ichthyol instead of spray?
4: What is meant by the hydrotherapy treatment instructed once a week or once in ten days? Does it refer to pelvic douches, enemas, or colonics?
5: Dr. Taylor suggests sulfadizine treatment for sinus and other possible infections. Would it be advisable to take it, and if so should it be taken internally or used as nose drops or spray? (If answer to this is yes, please ask following)
6: Will sulfadizine interfere with ichthyol or Elliott Machine treatment, and if so what should be eliminated?
7: Is Dr. Taylor correct in his belief that I have no serious adhesions in the pelvic region, or elsewhere?
Memo for Gladys: Will you please make an extra copy of this “check” and send it along to me (with my copy) for Dr. Taylor? Thanks.
