This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of June, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1472], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will have before you, here in this room, the body of [1472]. You will give the physical condition of this body at this time with especial relation to the X-Rays made of it May 23rd, confirming or correcting the diagnosis of the conditions as indicated by these X-Rays [kidney stone], and interpreted by Dr. Irene Gates, and Dr. Edward Burkhardt. You will advise the best corrective procedures, and answer the questions as they are asked:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1472]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, respecting the X-Ray, - this indicates the presence of a stone. But, as we find, this is not a true stone, - it is that from which there is found those properties as may form into a stone. This is the result, as we find and as we have indicated, of the inability of the body to throw off poisons or accumulations that have arisen from those conditions which have so long existed in the body.

4. As is understood, or should be by a physician - as well as the body itself, there are those activities of each eliminating system. Some of these are carried off, naturally, in the perspiratory and respiratory system. Much is carried off in the alimentary canal. Other characters, - as any form of inflammation, - produce an overtaxing condition in the kidneys. Thus there will be times when there are capsules of pus. This may eventually form into stones.

5. There are few individuals that don’t at some time or another have indications of stones; just as there are few individuals that don’t at most all times have indications of some infections or spots in lungs. These conditions come and go, dependent upon the manner that is used to relieve or correct those causes producing same.

6. In this condition here, with this body, - if there is the desire of the body to have it “done with,” have the operation; but it will not correct the condition! For it arises from those formations of pus in the soft tissue of the face and antrum, - sinus. These are the sources of same. To operate and not correct the sinus condition will merely mean that the body would from then on be near an invalid, unless measures were then taken.

7. As we find, the better manner of procedure here would be to use not only those applications to assist the activity of the kidneys to eliminate or eradicate those accumulations, but those applications to relieve the sources of the existent conditions causing same.

8. We find that these, to remove the sources, would be the use either of the Mono-Icthyolate or the heat from the Elliott Machine for the sinus; using with same, of course, the inhalants and sprays that have been indicated as reliefs for the body.

9. Also, for aiding the kidney condition, through the pressures produced upon the whole of the pelvis activity:

10. Apply, about twice each week, the mild Turpentine Stupes across the kidney area. Put about a teaspoonful of Turpentine (Spirits of Turpentine) in a gallon of water, - not hot and not cold, but rather tepid - or at least about ninety. Then dip cloths in this, preferably of flannel, - old flannel is preferable. Apply these across the kidney area for at least an hour.

11. Then, when these are taken off, massage in the area a combination of oils prepared in this manner:

Peanut Oil…1 ounce, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Lanolin…1/2 teaspoonful,

• this thoroughly mixed by heating the Lanolin and adding.

12. Each day take internally at least two teaspoonsful of Olive Oil. However, it is better that this whole amount not be taken at one time; rather taken a quarter to half a teaspoonful sufficiently often during the day to consume that amount.

13. These, as we find, should bring those conditions so that, when there is a feeling of the sinus having been bettered, if there is then desired the proofs by the X-Ray, there will be the indication of this having been disseminated to a great measure.

14. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) Is it necessary to omit meat, fish and fowl from the diet in order to eliminate the present disorders and bring better health to this body? (A) Fish and fowl may be retained; lamb may even be taken occasionally. Owing to the activities of the body, do not depend wholly upon vegetable forces. To be sure, eliminate meats as much as is practical. Do not take beef, nor even breakfast bacon or ANY type of hog meat.

16. (Q) Will an occasional alcoholic drink have any appreciable bad effect upon me in my present physical condition? (A) If this is ALWAYS made with what the body doesn’t particularly care for, GIN, it will not be harmful. Other things would be harmful. Especially the sloe gin we would suggest.

17. (Q) Is a hot bath sufficient to induce the light sweat advised before taking the weekly massage, and have you any further instructions regarding the character of the massage? (A) Here would be found more beneficial the Fume Bath rather than the Sweat Bath, - even the hot bath or hot shower. This means the body either under a sheet or in a cabinet, or in a dry cabinet, with the fumes of Witchhazel boiling in the cabinet so that the fumes settle over the body, see?

18. (Q) How many times daily should I use the inhalant prescribed for the sinus condition? (A) Whenever there is the feeling of irritation in the mucous membranes of nasal passages. This would mean at least three to four times a day, if this is practical.

19. (Q) Am I to understand from former readings that colonic irrigation will be unnecessary if elimination is good? (A) An occasional colonic irrigation is well for all, and for this body as well; but not necessary so often if there are good eliminations.

20. (Q) When I am able to secure the Elliott Machine treatment for the sinus infection, would it be better to have the treatments every other day for three weeks, as recommended through this channel May 11th, or every other day for ten days as suggested in the subsequent reading May 23rd? (A) This possibly may be better decided by the one making the application of same, and the first three or four reactions to the body from the use of same. It is not a pleasant thing in the beginning, but this may soon not be unpleasant in its use - if the body makes its mind in accord with same.

21. (Q) When taking the Elliott Machine treatment, should I continue the nose drops as described by Dr. Ann Becker? (A) As indicated, keep the nose drops as well as the inhalant. You see, take into consideration the practical value of the various treatments as suggested. The Elliott Machine, as so oft indicated here, is for infection of any nature in mucous membrane activity. This, of course, can be heated too hot. It can be run so cold as never to be effective to mucous membranes. Hence it is necessary that there be the proper temperature, - so it will run even to one-eighty (180) for such conditions; but gradually it should be raised to this temperature. These are set in the machine itself if properly applied. Use those solutions, in the application of same, that are sterile in their activity, through the water that passes or is pumped through same - of the saline solutions, see?

22. (Q) Have you any further instructions to give regarding diet and treatment for the healing of this body? (A) As we find, if these are followed, we will find help.

R1. 7/8/42 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Edgar dear:

I have been in such a jam since my return from the Beach I have not been able to command any time for personal letters. Not only has there been a tremendous amount of work at the office, but my maid has been desperately ill, and I have had to keep the apartment clean and in order besides all the rest, which has meant getting up by 5:30 daily in order to get my breakfast and straighten things at home before coming to the office. Also the treatments recommended by the readings you recently gave me take a lot of time. I am following all of them except the main one, which is the Elliott Machine treatment for the sinus condition. My doctor still has not received the antrum tubes. And she leaves this week-end for a three weeks vacation, so there is no chance of my getting the treatment for another month even if the tubes come. When she gets back there will not be enough time between her return and my leaving for the rest of my vacation (two weeks) to get the treatments in I fear, so it is all rather maddening. I do not know how much good the balance of things I have been told to follow will do without the Elliott Machine treatment, but I am doing them all nevertheless, - the diet; the massages; the turpentine packs; and the olive oil. The whole situation has been most discouraging, but I hope to eventually get the entire treatment at one and the same time, altho it will doubtless be September before I can now do so.

I greatly enjoyed my week at the Beach. I am devoted to the [1100]‘s, so it was nice being with them. I was also glad to see Mrs. [2174] again, and to meet [2441]. And I think you must know without my telling you how great was my satisfaction in having some good long talks with you. The one we had on the Cosmic Christ drew me closer to you than ever before in my life. I find few people on earth who really know what the Cosmic Christ means. So few recognize the fact that Jesus was a man, - as you or any other man, - only one who so met all conditions of scripture as to be a perfect channel for the Christ, and thus became Christed. There have been others, like the Buddha, and Vivekananda who have been Christed, but none so perfectly in my estimation as Jesus. Each of us can become Christed, - may even now be Christed, - in proportion as we gain that consciousness. Your complete realization of this gave me great happiness in my talk with you about it. That is why I saw the white radiance around you the Sunday I was there at your class meeting in church. For only the pure of heart see God, - i.e., gain this consciousness.

I had a Syrian lecturer, Miss Sumayea Attiyeh, for lunch with me Monday. During lunch I told her all about you and she hopes to have a “Life Reading” when she can spare the money. I imagine she has very little. Well, Miss Attiyeh was seeing Mae Murray, the former Moving Picture actress, the same afternoon, and I told her to be sure to tell Miss Murray about you, especially as Miss Murray was planning to spend this week at Virginia Beach. I have just received a letter from Miss Attiyeh telling me Miss Murray is now down there; that she succeeded in interesting her to have a “reading”, etc., so I hope she does it. Thus do seeds sown here, there, and everywhere bear fruit. Or so I hope.

We are having a visit this afternoon from the distinguished Chinese General Hsiung, and my “Honorable Al” will play host to him, along with me, on the … As all the newspapers will send photographers, etc., it will be another crowded day, and I must stop this and get back to my work. I have written you before starting the day at all here at the office, as I knew otherwise I would never get a letter into the crowded hours.

R2. 10/19/42 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

I have been utterly miserable with an ulcerated throat during the past two weeks. It is all a part of the damnable sinus infection, and seems to be attacking me just about everywhere it can. I am having injections of a special vaccine made from a culture taken of my own “bugs” but react so violently to the serum I can take it only in very small doses. This means it will TAKE ALL WINTER TO GET ENOUGH to have any effect, - if at all. In the meantime I am lecturing at least twice a week with this sort of throat, and really am just about at rope’s end. I am going back to the laboratory this afternoon for a full blood count and another culture from new ulcers in the mouth and throat.

With this wail of misery I’ll ring off. Just remember the rest of my letter and dismiss this part.

R3. 8/15/43 Letter [See under 2067-11 Reports] tells of her vacation in N.H. “with no seeming improvement in the sinus condition; the arthritis or the kidney.”

R4. 7/4/44 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:

As I asked [1100] to show you a couple of letters I wrote her, you know about all that I have been through here during the past month. As I could answer her letters and, at the same time, let you know the situation, in two communications designed for you both, I have waited until I gained more strength to write you further.

The operation on my throat proved a major one because of the condition of my tonsils. I have been through a veritable Hell of suffering, but my throat is healing now, and I greatly hope that this is the answer to the arthritis; sinus and other ailments which all the doctors claim to have come from the badly infected tonsils. I am still going back to the hospital every week for intravenous injections to eliminate the poisons from my system, and am still feeling utterly good-for-nothing, altho doing my work just the same. I have just finished my FORTIETH program since coming here. I have written; cast; directed and produced them all, taking only four days off at the time of my operation. I worked right on, and think it was better so, as this necessity took my thought off myself somewhat.

I had a letter from [1100] yesterday telling me what a fine Congress you had. As she gave me no details I shall be looking forward to the bulletin giving same. It was a bitter disappointment to me that I could not be there. However, if nothing again happens to upset my plans, I expect to come down there for a month in September (probably about the middle of the month) for a complete rest when my work here is finished. My doctor here says it will be absolutely necessary for me to take from 30 to 90 days ENTIRE REST when my contract here ends. As I feel right now, I am inclined to agree with him.

I am sure you must have greatly enjoyed the Congress, and feel equally sure that those attending gained help and inspiration from it.

Do not tax yourself to write me, but when it is possible without doing so I shall be glad to hear from you. I have been a very ill woman, and believe the prayers […] wrote you were offering (with her) for me, helped pull me through the ordeal. Thank you.

Give my love to Gertrude, and keep always a great deal for yourself, for my loyalty and devotion is abiding.

R5. 7/10/44 EC’s letter to [1472]:

Mrs. [1472] … Street, …, Arkansas

Dear [1472]:

Thanks a lot for yours of the 4th. I want to beg your pardon for not answering sooner, but we have been so very, very busy ever since the first week in June. The Congress was supposed to be about four or five days and it is still going on so far as people are concerned. Many came and many have remained and have been continuing to come in. So you know what it has been like here.

It certainly was too bad that you had to have such a time of it. I don’t want to be one of these “I told you so’s”, but you ought to look at your first reading you had and remember what your doctor told you so you didn’t have it done then. I do hope though that you are getting along alright now. I know just what such things mean. I’ll never forget when mine were not cut out for in those good old days they just used a caustic to burn them out and then you had to have them taken out when they took hold and grew. I am sure it has not been easy to carry on under such circumstances, but I am in hopes that you are gradually feeling better every day.

It was indeed fine to have [470] and [1100] here for the Congress. They are certainly both looking fine. We had quite a number of others and a very good meeting. However, with the close of Congress, Mr. Bro left and we have been up in the air again about some of the work. So it goes, but it will be alright. If it should work, it will. If it shouldn’t it has no place and shouldn’t go on anyway. If being worried to death is enjoying the Congress, yes I had a wonderful time. Of course, it is nice to have so many people speak so nicely of you and be so nice to you, but I am certainly body weary anyway and sometimes I wonder if my mind is in the right place and sometimes I am soul weary. But we must all carry on to the best of our ability. I haven’t been so well, but I am still carrying on at a pace that I am going to have to cut as I am having to leave off today and tomorrow. I don’t know what I am going to do.

My Sister is with us. I think you remember meeting her with Gertrude once in New York. She will be here for a few days and it is nice to have her with us. Gertrude is fairly well. Sally and Tommy have gone to her home to be gone two weeks or more. We miss them a lot. The other baby is coming along fine. He is walking now. They are both very fine and a real pleasure to us. I suppose you have heard from Hugh Lynn and possibly you know as much about him or more than we do.

R6. 3/20/45 [1472]‘s letter to GC:

… Street, New York City 16, New York

Dear Gertrude:

A message from Gladys tells me you are passing through some physical difficulties, which is distressing news to me. I sincerely hope the X-Rays will show nothing serious and that you will soon be well again.

I remember how often Edgar scoffed at X-Rays, saying they were frequently misinterpreted, so don’t believe TOO much in yours, SHOULD they show anything disconcerting. You know the doctors all say the X-Rays of my left kidney show a large stone, but one of my “readings” said it is not a stone, but a pus capsule which can be dissolved. While it gives me a good deal of discomfort at times, it does not seem to get any worse, and has now been there over ten years. Doctors disagree so much, I do not put a great deal of confidence in their diagnosis. In any event I hope you will not let them discourage you.

I shall personally be glad whenever I have finished the experience of this present incarnation. Nevertheless I would not want to EVADE any part of it because I would only have to come back and do it all over again. But when I have “finished the race” (as Saint Paul put it) I shall be glad, especially as I have many more of my family and my most beloved friends on the other side than I have here.

Several psychic friends of mine tell me they have been in touch with Edgar, and that he reports great happiness in working on a less limited plane than this one is. Whether or not their report is true, I feel sure Edgar DOES find a wider opportunity for service in his new vibration, and since SERVICE was the thing for which he always hungered I feel that he is very happy, - regardless of whether or not he has communicated it to any one on this plane. They may have just got his happy vibration. Or, again, he may actually have communicated directly with them. Neither is impossible I am sure.

I have asked Gladys to let me know if I can be of any personal service to you. I would be so happy to do anything I could. Certainly I shall be placing your welfare on God’s doorstep, where it will be dealt with in His own way and according to His own perfect plan for each of His children.

R7. 6/12/50 She secured a bottle of Ipsab, saying she had used it previously with good results, following removal of an impacted wisdom tooth.

R8. 11/6/61 Mrs. [2970]‘s letter: “Mrs. [1472] is ill and in the [Sibley Hospital, Wash., D.C.] hospital. It seems to be a kidney or bladder infection or difficulty.

“She told me that Dr. Thomas is going to consult with other doctors and that they are to take several tests and x-rays - for gall bladder, etc. She still has some pain.”

R9. 7/5/62 Miss [5259]‘s letter: “[1472] wants me to thank you for your kind letter and to tell you that she is giving up her apartment at the end of July…She has been very ill this last bout ever since she had her sister and husband over for dinner and day [visit] from … had a terrific blackout after finishing dishes that night. Was in hospital for most of the following week, then has had a nurse here at home ever since; has lost 15 pounds. She can hardly bear to give up her apt. and leave D.C., but she said her daughter broke down and cried (first time ever; didn’t do that when husband died), said she couldn’t keep coming down here and keep her job. So [1472] agreed to go to the nursing home until such time as she can take an apt. again; probably there nearby her daughter, within easy visiting distance.”

R10. 10/4/62 [1472]‘s letter to HLC: I hope you will be able to come out to see me when in N.Y. It is only about 45 minutes on the N.Y. … to …, and five minutes by taxi from R.R. Station. I would offer to meet you in New York but am far from equal to it. I am still in the care of a doctor, and a constant nurse. For the same reason I am unequal to fully answering your good letter, but will do so when I see you. However, my nurse takes me out for a brief walk now and again, and […] takes me to her home for an occasional meal on a Sat. or Sun., and sometimes for a drive in her car. Therefore, it will be well to let me know in advance when you are coming, as I would hate to miss your visit.

Please remember me to Lydia and all other friends down there and GIVE THEM MY ADDRESS explaining how much I like hearing from friends even though I am not able to write them at present.

R11. 9/21/63 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn, I was delighted to get your nice long letter of September 19th. I certainly envied you the wonderful trip to Egypt and Palestine. In all my trips to Europe I never got to either of these places which was a source of much regret to me. I certainly wish I could have been well enough to visit them with your Group. It was wonderful that Sally could be with you on this trip. Do give her my love.

I am glad to learn that you will be in New York around the 18th of October and hope that your schedule will permit your coming to see me. I am finding life very dull since I am not well enough for any sort of activities.

I was delighted to have your report of Tommy’s activities and shall be interested to know if he goes through with medicine.

Give both of the children my love and keep lots for your self.

R12. 2/24/64 HLC said he had received a note from [1472]‘s daughter about a month ago saying that [1472] suffered another heart attack (‘stroke’) which had partially paralyzed her, though her mind was still as clear as a bell. She had been placed in a lovely, tranquil nursing home, where the daughter could visit her regularly.

R13. She died 3/21/66.

To the research statistics department:

In November of 1979 I experienced a terrible attack and was hospitalized for Kidney Stones. They found a small stone was lodged in the urethra tube. The procedure was to enter the tube with a basket and hope that they could remove it without external surgery. That was not possible. I was told that I would have to drink lots of water and hope that it would be flushed out. That did not happen either so I was sent home.

My first thought was to secure the readings so my mother called the Beach and they were rushed out to me. I used the Turpentine Packs about three times the first week. Before I had the reading I did use a couple of Castor Oil Packs, just in case. I used the Turpentine each week for the next few weeks and then the Doctor X-Rayed me to see where the stone was and I told him I think it had moved. This stone did not cause the stabbing type pains but it did cause pains of extreme pressure type. The X-Ray taken in January showed that the stone had indeed moved down.

I continued with Turpentine Packs during the next weeks and was X-Rayed again in February. There had been no pain but the stone was still there. After that I didn’t use the packs. The old story of no pain so I forgot about it. The Doctor asked me to get another X-Ray in May to check on the case and there was no sign of it on the print. At no time did I experience any pain like that expected in passing a stone. I would like to assume that the Turpentine did indeed dissolve the stone and pass it without even knowing it passed.

The packs were supposed to be placed on the stomach over the area of the Urethra Tube but I am extremely obese and I used it on the reverse side. I surmised that the area rather that the side, back or front, would be the most important and I would say that it worked.

I hope that this will encourage any one with Kidney Stones because the experience of an attack is worse than child birth. It is necessary that the person be careful not to burn themselves by leaving the pack on too long. I used an Aloe Cream (any lotion should do) after each pack. I used the half cup Turpentine to a quart of warm water which I saturated a towel and placed over the area mentioned above.

All I can say is, “Bless Mr. Cayce, again!”
