GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
We find there are changes from that as we have had here before. And while the conditions may be disturbing to the body, we find that with the proper precautions taken, there should NOT be allowed too great an anxiety.
-
Those conditions as we find that have been indicated by the examinations are NOT true stones, nor even substance that is other than the accumulation of inflammatory forces.
-
If there had been the use of the conditions which were indicated, that would have equalized the balance in the system, we find that these would have prevented the arising of such disturbances.
-
But with the proper precautions, we find that - if there are the applications used as being administered in the present, without confusing same with OTHER applications - these should eradicate the disturbances.
-
This is more of pus than of stone. However, this is SUFFICIENTLY disturbing; causing the great amount of heaviness and - naturally through the system, without a great amount of eliminations, causes its distribution through the system affecting other portions of the soft tissue; and especially where there is close affiliation with the activity of those portions of the body one with another.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What is causing the gnawing pain in the left side of my back; the nausea, sinus infection, and nervous condition? (A) As just indicated; all of these effects arise from the accumulation of inflammatory forces in the form of pus in portions of the capsule of the kidney.
-
(Q) Is Dr. Irene Gates giving me the correct treatment and diet and will I get well under it? (A) If this is not confused with others, so as to form that which will produce reactions that will be warring one with another, it SHOULD remove the disturbance - as we have just indicated.
-
(Q) Is moderate drinking of alcoholic beverages harmful in my condition? (A) Any alcoholic beverage is harmful in such conditions. The beverages that are mixed with the carbonated water are rather inclined to be beneficial; especially such as Coca Cola.
-
(Q) Have you any further suggestions for the recovery of my health? (A) If those administrations are to be followed as indicated, then to attempt to mix or to give others - unless it would be that as would be working in conjunction WITH same - would be superfluous.
-
(Q) Will my new apartment be conducive to better health conditions? (A) When the vibrations and the surroundings have been attuned to creative or helpful forces, it should be.
-
(Q) Am I in any danger of losing my present position because of continued poor business on the … and can I do more than I am doing to improve these conditions? (A) This as we find APPARENTLY is a problem to be considered. But such should not make for anxiety. If the conditions in the minds of those who manage same justify the changes, or alterations, or eliminations entirely - it should not make for such anxieties to the body as to undermine the better health vibrations.
For as is understood - anxiety is like fear, and is as canker to any disturbed NERVOUS condition of a body, if it takes hold.
But rather do that the hands and the mind FIND to do; knowing that what is best - and that will give the greater opportunity for the self to be of greater service - will be thy lot; if that is thy purpose and if thy life is lived in that manner.
-
(Q) When, where and what was my relationship to J. Halloway Tarry in any other incarnation and how can I effect a more harmonious business relationship with him now? (A) We haven’t J. Halloway Tarry. This would necessitate the comparison, rather than the approach from the association here.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable for me to invest money now controlled by the Young Management Corporation in the oil syndicate in which [1561] is interested? (A) Owing to the general circumstance of BOTH organizations, we do not find it would be well to change - until there are definite policies formulated in the activities of the oil association or corporation.
This does not indicate that it would not be a good investment, IF there are the definite purposes followed as have been indicated for those associated in the oil syndicate or corporation.
-
(Q) Should I eliminate milk and wheat products from diet, and take tablets number 107 and 408 as prescribed by Dr. Minnie Black, of East Orange, N.J.? [Iridologist] (A) If the body is following those outlines by the one ministering for the removal of the disturbance, follow that! DO NOT mix them! Ye cannot serve two masters!

R1. 10/12/38 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
My physical check was received Monday evening a few minutes before Hugh Lynn arrived to take me to the [1602]‘s for dinner. It is encouraging to have your information state that the interpretation of the X-Ray pictures given by Dr. Gates and a consulting physician are incorrect. If the round spot they believe to be a stone IS a pus capsule, then its dissolution is possible. The doctors say that nothing of the sort could have been shown in the picture, as even the kidney itself did not photograph because its substance is not hard enough to do so without advance special treatment. They state that nothing but a hard mineral, or stone, would have shown up at all in the pictures.
In any event, your information says the treatment I am under will be helpful, and I shall adhere to it as advised. I had no intention of mixing treatments. I went over to Dr. Black, the Iridologist in East Orange, N.J., entirely to please [1158]. Since she was so eager for that diagnosis, and so lovingly and generously offered to pay for it, I felt no harm could be done by going. I had no intention of following the advice that came through it unless it coincided with my own doctor’s treatment. If I am to lean on medical care at all I don’t feel I could have a finer physician than Dr. Gates.
I was a bit disappointed that the reading did not supplement Gates’ treatment with some helpful suggestion, but take it that she is doing all that can be done in the circumstances. I can quite see the wisdom of not confusing instructions.
For the first time in an entire month I am better to-night, and now that the tax put upon me by moving (while carrying my job) is over and things will be less strenuous I hope the improvement will continue.
I was so sorry to learn from your last letter of your own suffering, and sincerely hope the readings you get for yourself will give instructions that you can follow for the restoration of your own health.
R2. 10/13/38 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Edgar:-
Yours of Oct 10th was received this A.M. It passed my last night’s letter en route somewhere. Since that missive replied rather thoroughly to your message of to-day, this is just by way of acknowledging same, and saying there is definite improvement in the acute trouble with my gall bladder which developed several weeks ago. The doctor calls it spasms of the gall bladder. It has been very painful, especially when eating or drinking anything at all. Dr. Gates thought this was brought on by so badly overtaxing my strength in moving. It was quite an undertaking for me to move and get straight in a new apartment and carry my … job at one and the same time, and more or less “did me in”. The new apartment is so much nicer, and I am so much happier there, that I am sure it will help in the restoration of my health.
I have three different diagnosis of the kidney trouble. Dr. Gates and her consulting physician say it is a stone; Dr. Black, the Iridologist in New Jersey, that it is a glutinous ball in the intestine and not in the kidney at all, and your information that it is a pus capsule in the kidney. Well, all I know is that the pain goes on gnawing into my back but I certainly am not going on the operating table to find out who is right, and what is what, but look to my Cosmic source to make me “every whit whole”.
I am so happy that you are so much better, and hope your improvement continues until you are “perfect even as your Father which in Heaven is perfect”, - as Jesus commanded each of so [us?] TO BE. And again I say He wouldn’t have so instructed us unless it is possible of accomplishment.
Have heard nothing further from Hugh Lynn. Had hoped to do so to-day. I sent him a copy of my last night’s letter to you. Since he had not yet written you an account of the audition my letter will tell you something of it. I’m sure he’ll work out the program to the satisfaction of W O R. The fact that Mr. Seebach is willing to do so means that he is entirely “sold” on the idea of it. MYSTERIES OF THE MIND program]
Again my love goes to each of you. Something of my inner radiance, - which has seemed lost for weeks through physical illness, - is back with me to-day. With THAT LIGHT I can bear anything.
Lovingly yours, [1472]
P.S. Just as I finished this Hugh Lynn called. He’s meeting me at the apartment at 5:15. Said he wanted to have a talk with me - More anon.
R3. 10/15/38 EC’s ltr. to [1472]:
Dear [1472]
Have yours of 12 and 13th - Note what you have to say about what the Dr’s say about your condition - might if had not had some experience physically with X-ray feel there was a lot of doubt to be put in the information - but as you possibly know was for several years the X-ray man for several of the leading physicians in the South - understand the equipment for such is quite different now and then - but many is the time have seen conditions that time after time would indicate there was just such a condition as yours in Kidney - and operation would prove differently not that am trying to prove anything by this - for TRUTH needs no justification only Glorification by the receiver of same - while you may have stone - do not know but very recently had case of a man in Washington D.C. [843] where the stone was in bladder or first between the kidney and bladder - the information said it could be dissolved. Dr. said impossible - well it has disappeared - tho the Dr. and the reading said that was there
- the suggestions for dissolving certainly worked - and the very Dr. who said it could not be done has agreed it has been done. But we shall see what we shall see - but you will have to follow diet and the treatments am sure very carefully.
My opinion - tho it is not worth much - is that any supplementary suggestion at present would have been out of the question - but there may be the time when it will.
Glad you were feeling better the night you wrote - the moving the anxiety - and all was something to be reckoned with - and the treatments could not do their best under such conditions
- but just hope now soon you will feel lots and lots better.
Haven’t heard from Mr. [1743] - but will write him today making the appointment but will have to hear direct before will give the reading of course.
Thought Mr. [1564] and Mrs. [1602] were very lovely they were here for a few days as you know - certainly hope everything works out fine there for you as well as them. Will try and listen in on the programme on Tuesday evening [“Quite by Accident” - WEAF] - tho can’t say will like it am already prejudiced which is awful to admit.
Hope H. L. comes out alright - unless he can make it a helpful experience from each programme - well personally would prefer he did not attempt it.
Too bad that animosities arise in the experience of anyone - but we see and hear of such every day - all the more reason there needs to be pointed out to people where the little things count - as Your “Folk we touch in passing” also that the Good not the spectacular or unusual be pointed out in the psychic experience one has.
H. L. has said very little about his worries - he is like that - feels I guess that I have plenty of headaches - without bothering me about His - however guess he doesn’t realize how sensitive Fathers can be at time - one never learns that until they ar one - and that is usually too late
- to say nothing of the intuitive influences that may be about one like myself - We seem all to however feel what we don’t know never hurts.
Wish could see your new home - don’t want to come to N.Y. this fall however if can help it - have been getting along physically very well lately - and know what it means to get in the hubbub of the City - but wherever can be of the greater service - that is where wish to be - but do want to see your place - and hope very soon you will get the feel of it as a home - with the vibrations that are most healing and helpful to you where you can really REST and MEDITATE, and where you can feel His Presence always KEEP the LIGHT Burning within and all darkness disappears.
All send love. Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R4. 10/19/38 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:
Edgar dear:-
Thank you for your nice long letter received yesterday.
I’m quite ashamed of my recent letters to you because they have been such wails of woe. I am not pleased with myself when I accept negative thoughts or conditions, and even less so when I relay them to others. I assure you this would not have happened in your case had it not been for the physical check which necessitated questions regarding my condition. Having such questions you were bound to know about it, so I discussed it in full.
I gave you the opinions of the doctors regarding the X-Rays merely by way of information. I know all too well how mistaken they can be about many things. Because I do know this, and because I believe in the integrity of your information I pace great hope in the assertion in my recent reading that the spot shown is not a stone.
As for adhering to instructions, - I am doing so one hundred percent. Since the reading says my doctor is giving the proper treatment, and that the “pus capsule” will be dissolved through it I am pursuing the course she maps out.
As a matter of fact I have never failed to follow instructions received through you when and where it was at all possible to do so.
Last winter I followed the instructions of my first physical reading faithfully for many months. Then I had a check and was told to take the chiropractic treatment from Dr. Mary Miller. This I commenced and took five of the eight treatments I was told would be necessary. At the end of those five treatments I was in bed with bronchitis and a very high fever, so I couldn’t do more. It took me more than a month to get back strength enough to function even half way decently, and when I felt equal to resuming the Miller treatment Hugh Lynn wanted me to have a check with you first (that was in May). This check told me NOT to go back to Dr. Miller; NOT to use the radio active appliance any more, - in fact to drop all former instructions except the fume baths which I was to take occasionally. This I did until about a month ago, when I was so ill I consulted my doctor (Irene Gates). She wanted the X-Rays to help her diagnose the cause of the gnawing pain in my back, - and you know the rest.
I recite this bit of history because I want you to know that I would not have a reading if I didn’t intend following it, and that I will faithfully pursue the advice and instructions given me in my last check. I consider no price too great to pay for health, and am doing all I know how to make myself fit.
So much for that! Save to say I am feeling somewhat better, and to assure you that I agree with you that it was wise to add no supplementary treatment when the instruction was to follow that of Dr. Gates. When I am all FREE OF DOCTORS I shall have another check, and see what instruction may then be given.
