This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 9th day of April, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1472], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:45 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1472].

2. Now as we find, while conditions are somewhat improved from that which has been manifested or exhibited, still there are disturbances that need attention and activity.

3. These exist as we find in the present:

4. The applications that have been indicated for the activities of the body were to ELIMINATE the causes as well as the effects the disturbances have produced in the physical forces of the body.

5. In the attempts to remove the effects AND the causes, poisons and activities in the system stirred up these poisons to greater DISTRIBUTION through the system.

6. Then the effect of cold, the congestion - by the very lack of proper discretion on the part of the will of the entity - brought about greater disturbance to those portions affected and weakened by the condition in the physical body.

7. In the present then: As there are improvements and definite ideas within self as to activities in the body, and the needs for physical activities under distresses and disturbances, we would not alter from the administrations being followed.

8. Only we would give that the use of the Fume Baths occasionally would be most beneficial. But if these bring into the experience periods of anxiety, or the needs for administering to other disturbing effects in the physical forces, leave them off.

9. In the applications then, we would keep that which is being done; and adhere to those suggestions that have been made for the definite periods of relaxation and for allowing the abilities within the bodily mental forces to bring recuperation within the activity of same.

10. This does not alter the fact that those suggestions which have been indicated might have given the desired results if there had been those adherences; but in the present we would not give changes in the administrations.

11. Ready for questions.

12. (Q) Should I resume Radio-Active Appliance? (A) No.

13. (Q) Is my sinus, or any other condition due to a streptococcic germ? (A) Rather the effect of tissue in the sinus (the soft tissue) becoming involved and PRODUCING in the blood stream a FORM of strep; BY the system’s attempting to dispose of same through the activities of the circulation.

14. (Q) Is my terrible depression due to physical illness or to discouragement over spiritual and professional defeats? (A) Rather a combination of these. The natural tendency of the body, in its high MENTAL development and state, to allow those to affect the body, brings rather the combination of same.

15. (Q) Would it be advisable to continue Libbey’s Lextron Liver Concentrate Tablets till required number of capsules are taken? (A) We would.

16. (Q) Would the treatments being given [1468] by Dr. CARL Miller, of 140 West 57th St., N.Y., be beneficial to me, or should I continue with Dr. MARY Miller? (A) Not with Dr. Mary Miller; rather with those being adhered to in the present.

If there is the convincing within self that those given by Dr. Carl Miller would be advisable, DO it!

17. (Q) Was the development of bronchitis and other accentuated physical conditions due to Miller treatments? (A) Due rather, as has been indicated, to the stirring up of causes and effects of the condition, and indiscretion on the part of the BODY!

18. (Q) Any further advice for the body at this time? (A) These we would do, as has been indicated, in the present.

R1. 4/13/38 [1472]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear “Ra Ta”:-

It was sweet of Gladys to get the physical check reading of last Saturday to me so promptly. It is extremely interesting in that it conforms to my recent mental psychology. In following instructions given me in my first psychical reading in November most of my evenings have been spent in doing things for my body. Fume baths; the radio active appliance, - together consumed the best part of an evening. Then came the Mary Miller treatments for three weeks, followed by the acute attack of bronchitis. As a consequence my body has been kept constantly in my thought.

It is my understanding that my body is a form - or vehicle - through which God expresses, - or is God in expression, - just as Troward states so often in all his books (You have doubtless read something of the sort in his “Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning” which I sent you). If what I call “I” is God in manifestation it ought to be a perfect manifestation.

I believe Cosmic Law intends only perfection for it. When therefore for four solid months I devote all my spare time to this body in the belief that it is sick I ACCEPT IMPERFECTION FOR IT, and WHAT WE ACCEPT WE BRING OUT IN EXPERIENCE. Such procedure for one of my thinking is a veritable bondage, and have chafed considerably under it.

Do you ask why, then, I went on with it? Well that because I am both a loyal and thorough person, and felt it right to thus follow through after having the first reading. It didn’t seem fair to you; to the Force giving the directions, or to myself to have the reading, and not afterwards follow instructions. Further more I have great faith in you and you work, and felt these instructions must be right for me or they would not have been given. But even so my thinking habits, and my inner convictions are very strong. And both approve leaving the actual operations of the body as much out of thought as possible. It is normal and natural for this vehicle to function perfectly, but if one is going to wrap negative thought around it by constantly “treating” it for sickness how can it rise to its normal plane of light and health and beauty?

Now then, with all this in my consciousness there seems little wonder that I am now told to leave all former instructions alone, - not to proceed with further Miller treatments; not to use the radio - active appliance and to take the fume baths only if I can do so without disturbance to myself (meaning of course to my THOUGHT in the matter).

I am no longer under the care of my own doctor, however, she having discharged me a week ago with instructions to finish the Lextron liver concentrate capsules (NOT lime tablets as the reading says) [GD’s note: The ques. was MISTYPED “Time” but was actually asked correctly] which I shall do. I am nearly through these, and when I am I shall try to lift thought to that plane of Light and Truth and Love where only Health CAN exist.

Dr. Mary Miller has invited Hugh Lynn and me to dine with her Friday night, and this will represent the first time I have seen him since his return from the Beach. However I have twice talked with him on the phone, and he seems to be both busy and happy, - The latter because of the former no doubt.

Edgar Dear:

I was so glad to have our little not last night. It seems so lo g since I head from you, but that is my fault because I haven’t written, beyond sending you my little flight into verse. [See 9/22/38 under 1472-6 Reports.]

One reason is that Hugh Lynn told me you were vacationing in Kentucky for about ten days, and the other is that I have been so ill that anything beyond the absolutely necessary things have had to be omitted for the time being.

All summer I have been very miserable physically, getting worse and worse, until about a month ago I developed such violent attacks of nausea my doctor insisted on my having a series of X-Ray pictures of my whole intestinal tract. When the plates were developed they showed the stomach and intestinal tract alright, but, alas, a large stone in my left kidney. I have been suffering gnawing pain in that side for the past two years, - and it has grown worse the past year.

I have seen the pictures and there seems no doubt about the stone, but what kind of a stone they say they can’t determine without more X-Rays. Also that such a thing seldom dissolves of itself and that my only hope lies in a surgical operation. As both doctors I have had in consultation and the X-Ray man say it is a development that has taken years to form I am wondering why no stone was seen; nothing of the sort mentioned in any of the tree physical readings you gave me. The doctors say this stone is the cause of all my nausea; that it sets up periodic infection which poisons my whole system; aggravates the sinus infection; affects my nervous system; is the cause of my great sense of periodic exhaustion etc. If they are right then why was nothing said about it in my readings? I have seen a good deal of Hugh Lynn since he has been here and he says he does not believe the thing the X-Ray pictures show is a stone, or the cause of all my suffering. I wanted to ask you for a check reading at once, but I am packing every minute I get at my present home preparatory to moving on Friday of this week, and I didn’t want to have a reading in the midst of this confusion, and my unsettled state of mind and location. If you could manage it on Saturday a week (Oct 8th) in the afternoon, or any time the following day, Sunday, (Oct 9th) I would like to have it, and will send you the questions as soon as you let me know.

All this doctors business has been mighty discouraging, and would be more so if I wasn’t sure that God intends perfection for His children, and that this business can be met in spite of the belief of doctors that it can’t be done without an operation. I’ve been three times already on the operating table, and half my woes are due to it, so I will consent to another serious operation only if I am persuaded there is no other way. And I’ll have to be six times as sick as I now am before I did it, even so. I can function as things stand. I do suffer this gnawing pain in the left side and back where the kidney is located. I sometimes feel I’ll just perish with the nausea, - and when all this happens I fix my faith on the Source of all Good, and through trusting the God who gives only Good, I seem to rise above it, - at least for a time. But, - strangely enough, - I don’t seem able to bring myself any permanent relief. And, Oh, my friend, I want to be made perfect in His service!

Dear [1472]

Have yours of 26th - am sorry to hear you are having trouble don’t understand - how such a condition could have crept up on you - don’t understand if such is the case why you have not been warned about same before this in the information, but have set the time for you Sat-afternoon the 8th-3:30 to 4:30 E.S.T. will be well if you will have H. L. help with the questions possible - and will see what the information has to say about it all. Of course have had many cases where such had been diagnosed and the information disagreed - and the application of the suggestion has cleared the trouble - one very specific case few years ago - man [5580] was told - stone in kidney - after his X-Ray, the information said something else, and that was done - they came for the man to carry him to the operation - he was out playing Golf.

Haven’t heard from H. L. since he has been up there this time

• until yesterday - he seems to blame us - but we have written - seems he just hasn’t gotten his mail hope very thing will work out alright - am disappointed tho that he has not been able to do what he wished - possibly tho this is best.

Can and do appreciate your feeling about these pains - haven’t I been most in the same fix for more than a year - Dr’s say I will have to have operation - but have not as yet come just to that - effects of the former operation. The information is not too optimistic at times - and keeps me on a diet - well some would not take.

Do hope we may be the channel for help - for am sure HE hs willed that we all be near perfect Physically as well as every other way - only ourselves that separate us from HIS love.

Dislike to think of any one using such a beautiful opportunity - of giving others a concept of God - as might be in - “Folk we touch in passing” or similar programme and leaving it all out. But He will give the opportunity else where am sure.
