This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of February, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [1472], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [1472]; this we have had before.
-
Now as we find, in many respects conditions show improvements.
-
Yet there are still those conditions especially with the head and through the soft tissue of the face that at times disturb. Or when there is an abundance or so much of the atmospheric reaction as to produce irritation to the tissue, disturbances come.
-
As we find, in making for changes in the applications in the present:
-
We would continue with the use of the Radio-Active Appliance as has been indicated.
-
Occasionally - at least once a week - we would take the Cabinet Sweat. NOW we would use one time the Spirits of Camphor and the next time a liquid solution of the Balsam of Tolu - or Balsam of Tolu in Solution. In each, for the three-quarters or full container of water put a teaspoonful of the properties.
-
With these other applications we would add those treatments such as may be had from Miller; corrections in the neck, the face and the upper dorsals, see? There would be required at least eight to ten such treatments. Make these about three times the first week, and the rest about twice a week.
-
These as we find, with the other precautions as we have indicated, should remove these disturbances entirely; aiding the eyes, making for better conditions through the nervous system, the digestive system and the whole reactions of the physical forces of the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Are my tonsils the seat of the infection that involves the sinuses? (A) Not necessarily; and as we find - if the corrections are made as indicated, with the vibrations that are created - there should be brought about the removal of the causes of the disturbances.
-
(Q) Would you advise the removal of the tonsils? (A) Not unless there is greater irritation than as we find indicated in the present.
-
(Q) Would it be advisable to return to the nose drops prescribed for me by two sinus specialists? (A) We would first have these applications and these corrections made as indicated here.
-
(Q) Does the sinus condition which is causing such intense pain through my eyes endanger my sight? (A) Not if the corrections are made; for as has just been indicated, this will remove the strain and make for the better conditions throughout the system.
Do that.
-
(Q) Why have I had so little relief through the treatments recommended in my last Reading? (A) The exposure in atmosphere that makes for specific pressures upon the system. And there has been the attempt first, through such treatments recommended, to make for removal of a great deal of the disturbances and so adjust the conditions that the corrections - which we have suggested here - would make for a removal of the specific and deeper causes.
-
(Q) Is a moderate use of wines and other alcoholic drinks detrimental to me either physically or morally? (A) If they are taken as food, and not as a stimuli, no.
-
(Q) Have my teeth anything to do with the condition in my head and eyes, and if so should I have them removed? (A) The conditions in the teeth rather are the RESULT of other disturbances, or of the poisons in the system.
And with these corrections made as indicated, and with the vibrations kept as we have outlined, we should find the disturbance being removed.
Then local attention may be necessary for the teeth, AFTER the adjustments have been made.
- (Q) How can I avoid an inherited tendency to deafness? (A) By having corrections in the areas that lack the proper adjustment of the auditory nerves’ activity and their supply from the cerebrospinal system.
When the adjustments are made, of course, it is necessary when treating the face that the eustachian tubes be cleansed by the corrections that are made; so that those inclinations for congestion to disturb or produce a prolapsus in same are removed.
-
(Q) What help from the other side did my nephew, […] have in his transition January 29th, and was he in my apartment the night of Feb. 2nd? (A) In the apartment, through those vibrations as created by those activities of the entity’s influence upon those sources of activity that make for that as called, to each, the guardian angel.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/16/38 Letter reporting on her Life Reading, 1472-3: “Thank you for the physical ‘check’. I shall follow the instructions it gives, and hope it will lead to a greater sense of fitness on my own part, for I have been rather miserable physically.
“Now I must say good-night as I fold each and every one of you in the mantle of my love and friendship.”
R2. 2/20/38 “I had my first treatment from Dr. Miller yesterday. She thinks she can help my physical condition, and I hope she can.”
R3. 2/25/38 “I am beginning to see results and am real hopeful.”
R4. 3/4/38 Dr. Mary A. Miller’s report via Mrs. Florence Evylinn Campbell:
“Mrs. [1472] has been making very satisfactory improvement to date, but a recent cold has put her back. Dr. Mary enjoys working with the patients you refer very much indeed, and appreciates your friendliness and cooperation. The Ellis machine most interestingly localized the areas mentioned in the reading.”
R5. 3/6/38 [1472]‘s letter: “Dear Hugh Lynn: This is mainly an appeal for advice.
“Immediately following my ‘physical check’ reading I made an appointment with Dr. Mary Miller as per it’s instructions. To date I have had five of the eight or ten treatments the ‘Reading’ advised, at the end of which I am very ill; confined to my bed; and today forced to call in my own doctor, Irene Gates. Dr. Gates has known me, and been my physician for years whenever I have had medical help - (which I resort to only when I seem unable to function on that spiritual plane which knows no inharmony). Dr. Gates would not be receptive to my interest in your father’s work, and would most certainly frown on my following advice received through ANY PSYCHIC channel. I did not, therefore, tell her anything about it beyond saying I had been having chiropractic treatment for my sinus condition, without stating who had advised it. On Washington’s birthday I contracted a terrific cold, which developed into bronchitis. I paid no attention to it, and for nearly two weeks have kept at the office in spite of it. Dr. Miller has never diagnosed it, and her treatments have in no way helped me as far as I can see. Dr. Gates said this morning that I would have been saved two weeks of misery, and my present condition, had I sent for her to start with. I didn’t feel I COULD and continue with Dr. Miller and the instructions as given in the Rdgs. Now, I’m down and out, - and don’t know what to do. I have such faith in the high character of the Force - or Forces - controlling your father’s work that the seeming failure of the instructions regarding my health disturb me more because of what they do to that faith than because of the physical suffering. Also there is the great experience of combined Readings; from bath cabinets and equipment; radio-active appliance; Dr. Miller, etc., which is a considerable item for a self-supporting woman.
“Dr. Miller says the difficulty lies in stirring up all the poisons in my system, but she has ALSO SAID EACH TREATMENT WOULD CLEAR THAT SITUATION, - but I have only become worse each time, which naturally makes me wonder if the course prescribed is the right one for me to follow. Please advise me what you think I should do - go on with it or drop it? Are the physical Readings always reliable? Are the instructions - if followed - always successful? Please write me at once - AT MY HOME.
“I had hoped you would be in New York ‘ere this. When do you come?
“Love and blessings!”
R6. 3/24/38 Letter from [1472] to EC: “You probably have already fully realized that only illness has kept me from answering your letter received a couple of weeks ago, since Hugh Lynn has communicated this misfortune to you.
“After my first treatment with Dr. Mary Miller I contracted bronchitis. Despite the severe illness it brought me I continued the treatments and did not call my own doctor until, after five of them, I ran a temperature which forced me to bed, and to consult my regular physician. This physician is Dr. Irene Gates, and is a friend as well as my doctor. She has attended me ever since I have been in New York, and knows me so well that I have greater confidence in her than I have in most M.D.’s. In any event she thought it rather dreadful that I had lashed myself into the chiropractic treatments in the condition I was in, but of course I didn’t realize how sick I was until I finally had Gates and she told me so. Because of allowing three such weeks to elapse before calling her I’ve had a bad time, and am still far from being out of my wilderness, altho am better. She is giving me injections or vitamins now and hopes to thus build up my strength.
“When Hugh Lynn arrived he found me in bed, but I have now been back at my office for ten days, altho able to do very little. However, I’ve done the broadcasts, and made a few other gestures, and am now getting hold of things gradually, which is well, for on April 11th we go back to the six-day-a-week schedule for ‘The …’ program, which is a terrific strain on me. Dr. Gates begs me to take a week’s vacation before attempting this larger schedule, but I don’t see how I can, as there are so many things pending at my office.
“Hugh Lynn was insistent that I have you give me another physical ‘check’ to learn where I go from here, - i.e. how to now proceed re. the former instructions, - for I don’t know whether it is best to ‘call it a day’ as far as Dr. Miller is concerned, or make another attempt to effect the adjustments she is supposed to make. It may be that the five treatments I had are sufficient, since I was told that eight would be enough in the first place. I feel hesitant about accepting this ‘check’ without payment to the Assn. for same, but Hugh Lynn seems to wish me to do so, so if YOU feel the same way about it I shall not be ungracious about it, and shall feel gratitude and appreciation as I have been, and still am, under considerable financial stress and strain due to illness; taxes; insurance; help to family and what not.
“In presenting the occurrences since my last ‘check’ please understand I am neither judging nor criticizing. I might have contracted bronchitis had I not been so stirred up by Dr. Miller, and certainly I need not have kept on going to her after I was so ill. I did it because of HER INSISTENCE THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. In any event it is now all ‘water over the mill’, - something to be forgotten except where it is necessary to take the lesson meant out of it. That is what I am trying to do, and have asked questions for the reading which will, I hope, clarify matters, and be a guide to further and correct procedure.
“I am delighted to know you have gotten back to par. I am always ashamed when sick because I know down in my own soul that God never created any sort of inharmony, and when I am experiencing it, it is because I am out of tune with the Infinite. I have no business dropping to such a plane of consciousness!”
