Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:20 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1472].
-
Now as we find, while there are many conditions that are very good, and there are resistances in the system sufficient to keep the physical and mental reactions such that the body may carry on, yet there are disturbing factors.
-
And if measures were taken for the removal of same, or the applications made during periods when these become more and more disturbing, we would find we might eliminate much of the distress and disturbance that is produced.
-
Thus we would give a much better physical reaction; and thus the opportunities of the mental and physical reaction would become better and better coordinant in their relationships.
-
These then are conditions as we find them with this body-physical, [1472] we are speaking of, present in this room:
-
First, in the blood supply we find there are indications of disturbing conditions through the system. Two very definite reactions are indicated; in the upper and lower portions of the circulation, or as related to the hepatics and the circulation through the sensory system.
-
From this we find there are periods or seasons when these disturbances become factors in bringing about dis-ease, rather than disease in the system, by the poor eliminations as related to all portions of the circulation.
-
Thus we will find that if there is produced a better coordination in same, we would bring about a much bettered condition.
-
The hindrances we find through the soft tissue, in the face, head, nasal passages - also as related to the throat at times - all become irritating.
-
These also are indicated in the activity of the lower hepatic circulation, or the overactivity of the kidneys in attempting to eliminate things or conditions from the system which should be carried through other portions of the body.
-
A part of this disturbance in the lower hepatics arises from the effect of a character of scar tissue through abdominal areas, so that under certain cycles of activity - when there is not the activity through the superficial circulation as there should be - there is a drain or a heaviness.
-
Thus we find not only an organic but a functional disturbance of the kidneys, or lower hepatic circulation, and at times irritation through the excess amounts of acidity - or of the uric acid that produces an irritation to the bladder, and even to the clitoris - or those irritations in these portions of the system.
-
The effect of these conditions, notably the flow of circulation through the lymph activity in the torso or the trunk portion of body, causes pressures upon the nervous system; so that at times the body becomes easily tired, there is a DRAIN upon the system as it were producing irritability - when it is not the MENTAL desire nor of the consciousness of the body that it is irritated, but the reactions are to become irritated with same for not doing this or that, or not being able to think or act as the body itself desires.
-
Hence we find these irritations or pressures coming through the coordinating of the sympathetic or vegetative nerve system to coordinant activities of the system itself; internally, or deep circulation.
-
Hence the tiredness that comes between the shoulders at times, the head and the neck, and the heaviness through the lumbar and through the lower portion of the abdomen; at times extending itself to the lower limbs, so that the lower extremities become a part of disturbing activities.
-
These then as we find become the conditions. If these were eliminated, and the causes, and the better conditions set up in the circulation, the better eliminations reacting, and then the cooperation and coordination of the eliminating systems as one to another, we would bring better physical reactions to this body, [1472].
-
Then, we would find these as the applications for same:
-
First, we would use the Fume Baths, such as may be had by the use of Atomidine (or Tincture of Iodine), Oil of Wintergreen and Pine Oil. Use these properties alternately; one time the Atomidine (or Iodine), the next time the Oil of Wintergreen, the next time the Pine Oil - a tablespoonful in the pint of water for the Fume Bath, in the Fume Cabinet that allows the fumes to settle over the body, see? We would have such Fume Baths once or twice a week, or they may be oftener or farther apart - or when this heaviness or tiredness occurs, or when there are disturbances through portions of the system.
-
The activities of these Fumes are to produce a heat and stimulate a superficial circulation that helps to carry off the poisons and thus reduce the pressures and the activities to the nasal passages, the antrum and the soft tissue in face, as well as in the rest of the body.
-
Of course, take a thorough rub after same in tepid water, and then an alcohol rub preferably. All of this may be done by self, if so desired, by using a Cabinet Gown such as made by Berg. But take the TIME to carry through ALL of same. The Bath or the Fume will be found to require about twenty to twenty-five minutes, then there should be at least an equal length of time taken in sponging and massaging the body, all over, downward, and most of the strokes over all the body, especially between the shoulders, with very heavy towels so as to produce stimulation - not irritation - but rather a glow to the body.
-
Such Fume Baths are much preferable to those as may be had in the regular Hydrotherapy Sweats.
-
Use occasionally the Radio-Active Appliance, which creates an equal balance through the system. This would be used for thirty minutes each day for periods of two to three weeks, left off for a period of a week to two weeks and then begun again; or it may be used oftener if there are those periods of fatigue or heaviness, or the tendency for the activity of cold or congestion to produce greater quantities of irritation. For these Fume Baths are not weakening on the system as the Hydrotherapy Sweats would be, and may be taken every day or so if desired - but alternate the properties for the fumes in the manner indicated.
-
When there are the disturbances from the bladder or the kidney, or the irritations in these, we would occasionally take a little Watermelon Seed Tea. Prepare same by self in this manner. Put a tablespoonful of crushed or ground seed in a pint of water just as ordinary tea would be made, and let steep or stand for fifteen to twenty minutes. Then strain off and drink this as a tea; a couple of ounces of same. This may be saved for the next day, and another couple of ounces taken. Then leave off for a period until needed again.
-
If these are followed, we will find we will bring for this body the better conditions. And alleviating the disturbances in this manner is much preferable to taking internal medical activities, either of the vegetable or mineral reactions.
-
In the diet, keep precautions as to those things that are not too much of starches; nor combinations that produce gas or acidity for the system. Do not ever combine such starches as white bread, white potatoes, spaghetti and cheese or the like - any two of these at the same meal. Do not eat fried foods at all. Have a portion of one meal each day to consist of raw vegetables; not the whole meal but a portion of same, combining in such a salad as many of the fresh raw vegetables as may be had that are PURIFYING to the blood stream yet that will agree with the system. Some of these will be found to at times disagree; then leave these off until there has been a better readjustment through the activities of these influences upon the body-forces.
-
Keep constructive, ever, and we will bring the near to normal reactions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Does death instantly end all feeling in the physical body? If not, how long can it feel? (A) This would be such a problem; dependent upon the character of which unconsciousness is produced to the physical reaction - or the manner in which the consciousness has been trained.
Death - as commonly spoken of - is only passing through God’s other door. That there is continued consciousness is evidenced, ever, by the associations of influences, the abilities of entities to project or to make those impressions upon the consciousness of sensitives or the like.
As to how long - many an individual has remained in that called death for what ye call YEARS without realizing it was dead!
The feelings, the desires for what ye call appetites are changed, or not aware at all. The ability to communicate is that which usually disturbs or worries others.
Then, as to say how long - that depends upon the entity.
For as has been given, the psychic forces of an entity are CONSTANTLY active - whether the soul-entity is aware of same or not. Hence as has been the experience of many, these become as individual as individualities or personalities are themselves.
- (Q) If cremated, would the body feel it? (A) What body?
The physical body is not the consciousness. The consciousness of the physical body is a separate thing. There is the mental body, the physical body, the spiritual body.
As has so oft been given, what is the builder? MIND! Can you burn or cremate a mind? Can you destroy the physical body? Yes, easily.
To be absent (what is absent?) from the body is to be present with the Lord, or the universal consciousness, or the ideal. Absent from what? What absent? Physical consciousness, yes.
As to how long it requires to lose physical consciousness depends upon how great are the APPETITES and desires of a physical body!
- (Q) What can I do to revitalize my nervous system? (A) Use that reionizer, the Radio-Active Appliance, as has been given.
This REVITALIZES the system throughout! For it coordinates impulses. As the cycle of impulse through the system flows through same, the Appliance, it is that which aids the vitality or vibratory forces of the body to be renewed or to coordinate and cooperate.
Hence at such periods that this Appliance is used, we would use the same periods for the deep meditation. And as the Mind is the Builder, we will find that the revitalizing of the body will bring for the whole of the nervous system and also the whole regenerative system NEW LIFE, new energies awakened in same.
- (Q) How can I become rid of the following conditions: First, distressing dreams? (A) By attuning each portion of the system to a oneness of energy. By the meditation and coordination of the activities in the system.
Dreams, visions, in the consciousness of a physical body, arise from three sources.
Because the activities in this particular system allow the poor assimilations (because of the energies being disturbed as we have described), these act upon the bodily forces themselves so as to make for the harrowing experiences at times.
Hence we have what in the reaction is the activity of the principles of the foods, or that taken for such activity acts upon the imaginative forces or the spiritual forces as connect the material body; passing through the influences that are to be acted upon by the very vibrations of the body itself.
Then there are those visions of the character to be sought, rather than rejected; as the experiences of the unconscious self or subconscious self that may come as warnings or as helpful experiences, or of that through which those influences acting about self become a part of self.
Then the third character: those visions or experiences of the superconscious or soul-self.
To rid self then of the distressing dreams is to coordinate all portions of the nervous system as combined with the activities of the assimilating and eliminating systems of this body. [See 7/26/39 letter under 1472-10 Reports in re continuing nightmares.]
- (Q) Should head be included in the Cabinet recommended? (A) The head should NOT be in the Cabinet.
If there are periods when those things given to be used DO NOT in their activity eliminate the head condition, or because of cold or congestion the head becomes clogged, then we would use an inhalant which we will give here. But if the Fume Baths are taken and the massage between the shoulders and the neck, and the rubdowns, with those properties used as indicated, these should prevent the body from taking cold; of course, with the equalization of the system established.
But if there are the periods of reaction, which may occur - by the body getting the feet wet, or the body remaining in a draft, or leaving the head uncovered too much - we would use an inhalant prepared in this manner:
To 4 ounces of Pure Grain Alcohol, in an 8 ounce container (preferably glass-stoppered), add - in the order named:
Oil of Eucalyptus…20 minims, Rectified Creosote…3 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…15 minims, Oil of Turp…10 minims, Tolu in Solution…30 minims.
Shake solution well, inhale through the nostrils - and occasionally in the throat.
This is a cleanser, you see, and also an allayer for irritated tissue in the mucous membranes of the head, the throat, the neck.
-
(Q) What should be done for the sinus infection? (A) All of this is just what we have been talking about! the mucous membranes of the face, the sinus, the soft tissues of the head, the face. All of the things indicated are for that very condition!
-
(Q) For fatigue and nervous exhaustion? (A) As given. The Fume Baths, sweats and rubs, and ESPECIALLY the Radio-Active Appliance for reionizing and revitalizing the system.
Do as has been given, and we will find all of these disturbances being eliminated from the system.
Circulate the attachments of the Appliance about the body in the ways and orders as indicated for its use; keeping the anodes clean. Restlessness, insomnia and irritation will disappear.
Do not use any sedatives, whenever possible to eliminate.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 11/14/37 [1472]‘s letter to GD:
Sunday,
Dear Miss Davis:-
Can you give me the address of Thomas Sugrue and also of the man who claims to be of the “Brotherhood of John”?
This request is instigated by an inner voice which suggests enlarged service to the universe through both contacts. Being accustomed to obey such direct guidance from my own God-centre I am merely following my usual procedure.
For several years my writing has been more or less sidetracked, - or rather diverted into channels which have seemed limiting. I have a feeling that it is to be reestablished in wider fields than formerly - in fact my life reading indicates this - and some “still small voice” within whispers that Mr. Sugrue may have something to do with it. Show this to Mr. Cayce, and get his reaction to it, please.
Believing Nancy Fullwood’s concept as given her in “The Tower of Light” that all men (and women) “in the service of the Master are called John”, I have also felt that I would contact some one of them soon. I think Milton Harrison is one, and perhaps the man to whom you yesterday called my attention is another. In any event I have made an exhaustive study of the Pyramids, and regretted there was no time left to look at the drawings you were showing me when I had to get ready for the train, - which I did catch, by the way.
Yours in Service
R2. 11/15/37 GD’s Letter to [1472]:
20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y.
Dear Mrs. [1472]
It give me great pleasure to furnish the addresses of the two people as requested:
Thomas Sugrue lives at 18 Windsor Place, Oceanside, L.I., Phone Rockville Centre 4873. His business address is % The American Magazine, 250 Park Ave., N.Y. City, Phone Eldorado 5-5200.
However, if you want to call him within the next few days - he and his wife are staying at the Hotel Lexington, Lexington Ave., at 48th St., Phone Wickersham 2-4400. He had to come in for a few days while he takes some treatments for a sort of “lumbago” and so he can keep in touch with his office without going back and forth from Long Island. I understand he has improved wonderfully in the last three days, so he may be moving back before you reach him. By the way, the Fume Baths were on of the things suggested for him. I’m sure he will be glad to meet you and know of the work you are doing. The great work of his life is to be a book on the Life of Jesus BEFORE beginning His ministry. He is very much interested in all the Life Readings we have then, of course, on people who had an incarnation at that period. He is a very dear friend of ours, and we expect great things of him.
Now about Brother John - none of us have met him except Hugh Lynn, who was very much impressed, and he wanted an interview with Mr. Cayce while we are here - he seems much interested and, of course, has read our booklets, etc., and we have read some of his. Somehow, I felt you would be interested in what he is doing. I am looking forward to meeting him myself. His address is:
Mr. J. Francis Small, 229 Fourth Ave., N.Y., Phone ALgonquin 4-4538
Home: 870 West 181st St., Phone WAdsworth 7-7360
Mrs. [1158] has kindly offered to let us spend Wednesday evening, the 24th, in her home and invite Brother John, yourself, and one or two others. We felt that he could feel more free to talk with Mr. Cayce about the things that are of mutual interest to them, in a Christian home. Mr. Small (Brother John) is a business man and can only come in the evening, so naturally the conversation would be quite different with our dear friends Mr. and Mrs. Kahn present - being Jewish, and Brother John (according to his literature) being so thoroughly Christian. If you meet him before the 24th, it might be that you could arrange to come out together that evening to Mrs. [1158]‘s.
Looking forward to seeing you this Thursday afternoon, then, I am
Sincerely, [signed] Gladys Davis
R3. 12/12/37 Letter, reporting on her Life Reading 1472-3:
Re. the physical condition. Things are better, and I am very hopeful. There has developed a painful condition in my left knee, however I do not know whether the treatment has anything to do with that or not. I rather think - and hope - it is merely a passing disturbance caused by stirring things up, as the fume baths are evidently doing. I shall stick to the treatments, - both baths and radio-active appliance.
Please thank dear Gladys for her letter, and tell her I feel sure I am using the radio-active appliance correctly, and that I will write her individually as soon as time and opportunity permit.
R4. 12/22/37 [1472]‘s letter to GD:
I sent you a message in my last letter to Mr. Cayce re. the radio active appliance. I am sure I am using it right now, altho I was not before starting with the ankles at any time, not knowing the first place attached set up the positive current. Here’s the cycle now, attached in the order of first named each time, with the other end of the wire stuck into the appliance before making the second attachment.
Mon. night - right wrist, left ankle. Tues. night - left wrist, right ankle. Wed. night - left ankle, right wrist. Thurs. night - right ankle, left wrist. Is that correct?
You spoke of a chart. There was no chart with my set. Just a single printed sheet of explanation and instruction, which made no mention whatever of the circuit to be achieved in the manner you explained in your last letter. This should be corrected because I myself wasted three weeks using the appliance wrongly, and would still be thus using it had you not explained it.
R5. 12/31/37 GD’s note:
Yes, you are now using the Appliance correctly. I’m so glad. Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to write out the directions explicitly and get the H.H.R. Co. to print them, as they don’t seem to make them clear.
R6. 1/2/38 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:
I seem to be making little if any progress through following the treatments advised in my physical reading. If I don’t do so within the next few weeks I will have a check physical reading. I am far from well, and desperately tired.
R7. 1/13/38 Letter from [1472] to EC:
Dear “Ra Ta”:-
Had I been satisfied with writing you briefly and casually it might have been accomplished before this. Because I craved time for a real talk with you when I did write it has been put off from day to day, and, now that I am doing it, I cannot be sure that I will have no interruptions, as I am in my office.
[1468] and I had dinner together last night and she told me you have been ill. I grieve to hear this. Are things well with you now? The universe cannot afford to have you incapacitated for even so much as a day!
As a matter of fact one of my greatest puzzlements is that any one who approaches your understanding of Spiritual Law can experience inharmony of mind, body or emotions. The Man of Galilee at whose side I spent so many years of a past incarnation said we should not only do His healing work, “but greater works shall ye do because I go unto my Father”. There is a reason that we don’t and that reason does not lie with Him. It is some block in us. Either failure to “keep His commandments” or lack of understanding in some direction. I can’t and won’t and don’t believe man is intended by God to be sick because MAN IS GOD IN MANIFESTATION AND IT IS UNTHINKABLE THAT GOD COULD BE SICK.
A couple of years ago I was sitting at my desk in my office. A deaf-mute lad somehow got past everyone in the reception room and into my office. He handed me a card saying he was deaf and dumb, and asking that I buy some scratch pads he was selling to make a living. I bought the pads, paid the young man (he was about sixteen) laid the pads on my desk and turned with a sigh to my work for I was feeling very ill indeed that day. I thought no more about the boy until suddenly I looked up. He had reached the door; turned and looked at me and with a smile returned to my desk, and with a pencil wrote these words on one of the scratch pads I had bought:
BE WELL!
And INSTANTLY I WAS WELL.
Furthermore I believe the Christ was in my office that morning - made manifest through this dear afflicted child who could not heal himself, but who left the Christ with me in healing blessing.
I have since had much illness with this abominable sinus trouble but for a time I was quite free, and have wondered why the healing was only temporary. However, it was beautiful to have had such a glimpse of the Christ.
R8. 1/18/38 EC’s letter to [1472]:
Dear [1472]
Yours of the 13th was just what was needed to make me ashamed of my self - still I think we could have a right good arguement, about this being subject to material law while in the material plane - but guess had better not start it on paper, for am not so good as you when it comes to wielding the machine for recording thoughts on paper - yet just one dab - the “BE WELL” on that pad awoke you to a plane of consciousness, not of the material, so you over came, but you lapsed into the material - just as Peter in the presence of the divine began to sink - Oh I agree one doesn’t have too - but one does - is self evident in us all, but better hold up will wonder away - But that is the most beautiful story ever heard - and tells the whole story of the Christ; even when he said “If I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee” but he didn’t - tho many thought he had, because that one lived to a ripe old age, and the only one to see a natural death.
Some very interesting revelations in Miss [1468]‘s reading, haven’t had chance to follow that up, but hope to do so, and find out a few things that have and do disturb me at times.
Well the less I say about my being sick - maybe - the better
- for haven’t any thing “fitting” to say. There is no doubt, when these things come to any of us that “Sin lies at the door”.
Glad you heard from Tom - he has a new daughter and know he like every other Father is very proud of the first born, Tom is a lovely character, and believe he will go far in his chosen field of activity. Yes that story and experience, will do any one good that is the least in the thought of truth. Do write Tom about it, he will appreciate it, and will do him a lot of good. Tom still has a lot of strings pulling him - don’t censure him at all, but observe, Life in its evolution through the mind of man, and each soul is a study in its self.
R9. 2/4/38 [1472]‘s letter to EC:
Dear “Ra Ta”:-
As soon as convenient to you I would like a physical check. Not knowing what will be brought out in the reading itself it is difficult to know just what questions to ask. I am inclosing six, - five of which pertain to my physical condition and one to the death of my sister’s son last Saturday night. I do not know if such a question is permissible in a physical reading, but if so, and it is answered, I think it will be a great help to my sister, both by way of establishing the continuity of […]‘s consciousness of life, and knowledge that he was helped through the transition we call death by loved ones. My sister has a double burden in that her son’s death seemed so unnecessary, being due to the criminal neglect of his doctor. I won’t go into this beyond saying it has added bitterness to my sister’s sorrow, so if I can get a question answered regarding […] it will comfort and help her. When with [1470] in my apartment last Wednesday night I was conscious of the presence of children, altho I did not SEE them. [1470] DID SEE THEM and heard their laughter. Once during the evening I felt very sure of my nephew’s presence and thought I heard him say “Aunt […]” (which is what he called me). Since I feel this may have been imagination I would like to check it, and have worded my question to do so if it is answered. If any of you feel my questions could be more effectually stated please don’t hesitate to change them.
Now for my health. I have devoted most of my evenings since my physical reading here in Nov. to the treatment prescribed, and have seemed to have little result from it. The pain through my eyes and head (especially the left eye) is almost continuous, and sometimes so intense I can hardly bear it. My only relief is in taking aspirin which is only a temporary help, of course. Between the constant pain and fitful sleep at night the strain on my nervous system is so continuous I find it all I can do to check irritation and depression. I had hoped the fume baths, radio-active appliance, and the concoction prescribed for me to inhale would help, but, if anything, I seem steadily getting worse. Of course I can bear it, - but it all leaves me rather unfit for my work, and I am in such a state of weariness and exhaustion when night comes that I want nothing except to go to bed. The treatments prescribed during my physical reading take so much time I can do little else with my evenings when taking them, so my winter has been pretty much devoted to same. Perhaps the check will point out the trouble - or reason for not getting the proper relief from the treatments, or bring help somehow. I hope so.
I seem a bit confused re. the cost of this check reading. My understanding is that a physical check is $10: Is that right? Am inclosing this amount and if it isn’t correct please ask Gladys to let me know.
R10. 2/5/38 [1472]‘s letter to GD:
Saturday
Gladys darling: -
Since my letter of yesterday to my dear “Ra Ta” it has occurred to me to ask in my physical “check” if it would be advisable to return to the nose drops prescribed for me by two sinus specialists here. Will you add it to the questions asked? You see, I stopped them when beginning the new regime outlined in my physical reading, as I was told to take no other treatment except that prescribed. I don’t know that these two prescriptions did me any good, but they did seem to me to help SOME in the SINUS matter.
I am feeling much better this morning than when writing yesterday. This is the way it goes. I have days when I feel quite “peppy”, and when the pain in my eyes and head lets up considerably, but they are rare. I notice that I am always better after using the PINE OIL in the fume bath. I did that last night and believe it accounts for to-day.
I dislike all this negative talk, but if I am to have the physical “check” I should give all the information for it I can, and ask questions to bring out the help I want and need. If any of you think the questions sent could be better worded don’t hesitate to do so. Or to add any you think would be helpful, - THE LATTER ESPECIALLY DURING THE READING, AS THAT MAY SUGGEST SOME I HAVE NOT ASKED.
Please let me know if the money I gave [1470] for his new life reading is correct, and also if my yesterday’s check for the physical “check” is what it should be. It is my remembrance that a “check” life reading within a year of the first one is $10: and “check” physical reading always that. If I’m wrong let me know.
Heaps of love from [1472]
R11. 2/6/38 Letter from [1472] to GD:
Sunday Night,
Dearest Gladys:-
This is another postscript re. my physical check. I suddenly remembered that a specialist who treated me here for more than a year for sinus said the seat of the infection is in my tonsils; that these are infected, deeply embedded, and should be removed. In view of this will you make my very first question read something like this:
Are my tonsils the seat of the infection that involves the sinuses, and would you advise the removal of the tonsils?
I have fought this operation because I don’t believe it necessary, but in view of the diagnosis above mentioned I think we should ask about it.
