1. GC: You will have before you the entity [1472] born May 5, 1880 in Bowling Green, Va., and who is in her apartment at the …, New York City. This entity seeks enlightenment and help in her work, in her human relationships and problems which are presented. She seeks release from her present duties for the utilization of her gifts and talents along lines more in accord with her training and abilities. In answering the questions which she has submitted, give both the retarding and developing factors in her relationships that the entity may serve more and find the greatest possible development in this experience.

2. EC: Yes, we have the records of the entity here, now called [1472]; with the information that has been given respecting same.

3. In the study or the analysis of the conditions and circumstances that are a portion of the entity’s experience, if these are still considered problems, detriments, because here or there there is a latent or manifested aversion, then these will - with the under standing, as the entity should have - still remain problems; and little there may be done to release self so long as there is the recognition of problems, of animosities, of likes or dislikes as related to the purposes

4. This has been a portion of the entity’s training, and yet the entity seeks for the use of that in which it has been trained?

5. How readest thou those conditions that were a part of thy development through those periods in which the entity as the teacher, as the prophetess, sought to prepare its peoples, those with whom it came in contact, for those lessons that were and are a part of the experience of each and every soul that enters the material sojourn for a purposeful life?

6. Have ye learned that as He gave, and as ye proclaimed as the manner and way in which paths would be made straight? that if thine enemy smite thee, turn the other cheek? and he that looketh on a body to lust has already done those things that are not in keeping with true, pure lives? or if ye listen to those who would tempt thee for this or that purpose wherein it might make thy activities of ease and comfort without the thought of that it would bring into the experiences of others?

7. What meaneth these? As He gave - love alone begetteth love; purity alone begetteth purity. These things then should be cultivated in thy experience, and in thy dealings with thy fellow man.

8. Do ye have one standard for he whom thou likest and to whom ye are drawn, and another standard for they that would despitefully use you? Do ye have one measurement for those who would praise, and another for those who would counsel or rebuke thee?

9. Have ye forgotten that whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, He purgeth? even as His own, in those experiences through which He was led, in those associations and relations with those He loved as His companions, as His neighbors?

10. These are all a part of thy own experience, and in thy dealings with thy fellow man these must become not only tenets, not only for the use and application in the experiences of others but they must enter into, they must be a part of thy own dealings with problems (as ye call them), situations (if ye like), stumbling-stones (if ye set them up as such).

11. Rather let them be that upon which ye will rise as upon the wings of thought, that make for that building into the experiences as to bring those awakenings, those awarenesses of Him whom ye proclaimed so thoroughly, into the hearts and minds.

12. For as Mind is the Builder, that ye dwell upon, that ye cultivate, THAT is the manner of fruit ye bear in thy daily life.

13. For the fruits of the spirit - yea, that as is sought; and to be loved in thy own life - are peace, harmony; not at the expense of thy Lord, but with Him keep the paths straight! “For if ye love me, I and the Father will come and abide with thee.”

14. These are not mere words. They may be thy own experience, they may be thy very life!

15. Seek not for the fame or the fortune that alone makes for those things that hinder and belittle humbleness and service. For he that is the greatest is indeed the servant of all. He that would have life must indeed give life, if he would know that life is indeed the expression of that we worship as the Father-God.

16. Ready for questions.

17. (Q) In answering all the questions asked regarding my work in both my former readings I was given great spiritual impetus and valued it - (A) [Interrupting] Then USE it! Then apply it! Then keep it, and cherish it!

18. (Q) [Continuing] but what I most want and seem to need at present is guidance and help as to how I may break the continuous obstruction to my writing and to my radio work. Can you advise and instruct me in the matter? (A) What you WANT and what you have may be entirely different! Then change that ye want to be in keeping with THAT He would have thee do! Not the prayer, “Lord, do this - do that - for I am thine!” Rather let thy prayer be, “Here am I, Thy servant, Thy handmaid - USE ME in the fields of service, in the fields of activity where THOU seest, O God, I may be the greater service to my fellow man!”

19. (Q) How may I break the continuous obstruction to my writing and to my radio work? (A) Just in the manner as indicated. Let that be held and cultivated, “Where Thou seest, O God, that it may be of service - and that I may serve - use it in the way and manner as Thou seest.” And as ye open your body and your mind and your heart to these probabilities and possibilities, then ye become imbued with that power. It is not what is said, it is the spirit and the purpose for which it is sought and said. He that would break down, he that can stumble for Christ’s sake, he that can be made ashamed for His sake winneth that which fame or fortune or power may NOT bring - the consciousness of His presence abiding within!

Tear aside, as it were, the veil that separates thee from the pure white light of the Christ-Consciousness. Ye have experienced it again and again. Then harken not to the fleshpots that would make thy way easy, for Easy Sake. Trust wholly in Him, and He will do thee good!

20. (Q) Will I ever have sufficient financial freedom to enable me to work without consideration of money, and if so when? (A) This of course - as to every one MINDED of material welfare - presents a problem.

When self is turned entirely loose, and the reliance is upon Him - .

How did He give? Consider the lilies of the valley. They toil not, neither do they spin; yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as one of these!

When taking thought of the morrow, do you add one cubit to your stature? do you add one hope? Rather you add one stumbling stone or a stepping-stone.

Consider, as He gave, the birds of the air they are His and He provideth for them. Did He not give you these? Do you hold to the world and to spiritual truths also? Or do you apply them in thy hopes, in thy problems, in thy activities?

Yea, ye call this impractical - for ye are in a practical and a commercial and a business world, and these must be considerations. Yea - but how usest thou them?

Yes, it will come to thee if ye apply thyself. Whose IS the silver and the gold? Whose IS the power, the might, the light, the hope? Who is the giver of these? They that serve Him. These are lent to those who are His. They are opportunities, then, in thy own experience.

21. (Q) Should I withdraw the money I have for investment with the Young Management Corporation, or leave it there? (A) For the present, leave it there. After October, remove it.

22. (Q) If, as you stated, I have always come to the earth plane at periods of great awakenings to forward the progress of the human race, how can I best achieve this purpose in my present incarnation? (A) By making practical daily application of the knowledge thou hast in hand.

23. (Q) Have I ever been, or will I ever be the wife of the entity now known as [1151], and if so when and where? (A) We do not find the entity having been. As to whether there will be - this is a possibility but not a probability, unless there are great changes in the experiences of each. For the ways and manners take different directions of activity.

24. (Q) When, where, and what was my relationship to my daughter, the entity now known as […] in any other incarnations, and why are our concepts and purposes so far apart in this present earth sojourn? (A) There may have been many. There is this association that arises from the activities that have gradually grown to be a portion of the problems (as ye make them) in the present:

In the Palestine sojourn, then the daughter was the sister - and averse to the entity’s making those activities in associations with the sect or group with which the entity was then affiliated or associated.

Hence we find the greater problems have been between self and daughter in the present regarding individuals and associations with groups or corporations and the activities of same. One is an outgrowth, the other an ingrowth from the applications of those experiences during that particular sojourn. [See 1472-13, Par. 20-A.]

25. (Q) Have I ever had a former relationship with my two grandchildren, the entities now known as […], […] and if so when, what and where? (A) These we find again, in that same experience, as friends or associates; and helpful experiences.

And as ye find, to the one ye wish to give all; to the other ye wish to continue to correct in the choices - which is the outgrowth of the experiences and activities that were a part of that sojourn. [See 1472-13, Par. 19-A.]

26. (Q) When, where and what was my relationship in other incarnations with the entity now known as [2505] and what is the purpose of my present association with him? (A) This as we find might best be had by the paralleling of the activities of [2505].

As we find from thy own associations - in the Palestine experience the entity [2505] was one who DIRECTED the entity in a portion of its training.

We may find in the present, then, the attempts to deflect the entity’s activities into those fields that may to the entity often be questionable ones; yet they may be demonstrated in manners in which in the last day may be such as: “Did we not in thy name do this and that?” and He will say, “I never knew you.”

27. (Q) Do I understand that I should develop or curtail the association? (A) Just being forewarned, be forearmed. Running away or hiding from contacts or associations that are met through the activities does not alter the situations; nor does it alter the problems. For to hide from one only makes it more concentrated in another.

Being forewarned, then, be forearmed. How did He give? He that is aware of the thief that would break in would be prepared for same. [See 2505-1, 5/21/41.]

28. (Q) Will the conference regarding a moving picture contract I recently had in Hollywood bring satisfactory results, and if so how soon will the arrangement be concluded? (A) As we find, it may bring offers not satisfactory in their first premise. Later, if changes are brought about, these may bring about associations and relations that may prove to be an OUTLET for the entity’s abilities in many directions. But not before the beginning of another cycle or year.

29. (Q) Will I ever get into the moving picture field, and if so will I be successful in it? (A) Will I ever get in the way of an automobile, or go up in a balloon? This depends upon choices as are made by and through opportunities sought the application of the mind in those directions!

As has just been given, there will be presented an agreement - or an OPPORTUNITY. As given, it will NOT be in keeping with the greater desires but later may be changed.

Then, if the choice is to do or to keep in the way that has been set - this is a matter of today, now, CONTINUALLY meeting the opportunities that are set. But what is thy measuring stick? What are thy desires? What are thy purposes?

30. (Q) Why was my microphone program in … discontinued, and what can I do to get it continued? (A) As we find, fear was the basis of the cause. How many reported to thee favorably on the program? That same number may ask for its continuance. If only one-tenth answer, it will be continued.

31. (Q) What work can I do to lessen the crimes and injustices against the children of the world? (A) Whose children are they?

These problems are only - ye may sow the seed day by day and leave the results of their growth to Him that doeth all things well. Great is the inclination in many - and it groweth in thee - “I would see that I would do come to full POWER in the moment!”

The knowledge of God, the correction of things and conditions, is a growth.

He then that would be the greater must be content - not satisfied, but content - in doing today; wherever it may be spoken, wherever it may be written AGAINST such - not as Ye deem a crime, but that which is against the tenets of His “Suffer little children to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of God.”

Only in that attitude and that approach. He careth for them.

All of thy boasting, all of thy ranting or raving may not change one. It is only what ye do with those ye meet day by day.

As ye speak to those even that are CONSIDERED not capable of thinking, ye may do so in such a manner that the crimes against the young in every walk and phase may take root and grow to be miracles or crimes!

That ye have become cognizant of it shows that ye must do something about it! Not that ye may make laws, not that ye may control laws; but ye can LIVE that ye believe! [See 1472-3 Reports, letter of 8/1/39 in re children and karmic relationship.]

32. (Q) Before my spiritual awakening I had ample opportunity to use my writing ability. Since I have been thus enlightened the utilization of this gift has seemed blocked in every direction. Why is this and what can I do to regain that opportunity? (A) Whom He loveth He chasteneth, and He purgeth every one - that they may bring forth MORE fruit, BETTER fruit!

Or how did He give? The children of this world APPEAR to be wiser, in their OWN generation, than the children of light.

Are ye not able, are ye not willing to drink of the cup of which ye have taken hold?

33. (Q) If, as you have said, I was a prophetess, healer, teacher and writer in my Palestine sojourn, why does so-called sacred history give no record of me or my work? (A) Ye were of the Essenes; not of the Jews nor even the Samaritans!

34. (Q) Please explain the discrepancies in the dates given me in my Palestine reading. If, as stated, I was 24 when Jesus was born; he was 33 when He began His ministry, and I lived 67 years after his crucifixion, I would have been 124 when I died, - instead of 91 as given. (A) It’s the change in the period from which the reckoning was counted. Or as ye have 24, this SHOULD be 4 - and then the change in the reckonings.

35. (Q) You stated in my Palestine reading that I am now called to proclaim by word of mouth and through my writing the truths I presented to the world two thousand years ago, yet I am functioning in a largely commercial job with the avenues for both my writing and radio work closed. Can you explain this seeming contradiction and tell me what to do about it? (A) Where, in what and in whom do the extremes or contradictions meet? Only in one - Jesus, the Christ! the Christ-Consciousness representing what in thy daily experience, thy daily contacts? whether in the street, in the commercial life, in the world of every nature? MIND!

In the expressing then of those tenets, one WORD in the associations may change - as ye have so well presented from time to time.

Lay hold on that thou hast in hand and KNOW - how did He give to Pilate? that no one hath power of ANY nature except it is allowed by or of God!

Then where thou ART, sow the seed - by word, by writing. These will come to mean that in the experience of the many, as they did in thy experiences in Judea.

36. (Q) When, where, and what was my relationship to the entity now known as [1158] in any other incarnations? (A) All of these should be known by the paralleling and the studying of that given, which should explain every When, Where and What! But these should be kept in their proper relationship! Remember, these are RELATIVE!

With this individual we do not find a contact.

37. (Q) Have you any further instructions or suggestions you would care to give me for my work and service? (A) We would care to give you all! Will ye take hold of that ye have today?

Then turn within and take thyself to task. Not as to whether ye may eat tomorrow or not, but say to thy soul - not to thy body, “[1472], where leadest thou thy neighbor?”

The Divine Ideal Is Simplicity Itself, Australian Pastor Declares at Riverside

A real revolution could be created in modern life if a sufficient number of persons determined to live according to the will of God, the Rev. Dr. Frederick W. Norwood said in his sermon as guest preacher yesterday at the Riverside Church.

Dr. Norwood, who is a native of Australia, has been preaching in London since the World War. He arrived in this country several weeks ago as “Special Preaching Missioner” of the Free Church Council of Great Britain. He will lead the Sunday services at the Riverside Church for the next two months while the Rev. Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick is on vacation. Thereafter he will tour various cities as a visiting pastor.

“Who does the will of God?” Dr. Norwood asked. “Does anybody want to do it? The average man wants to do his own will. If there should be a few people you can be sure they have passed through a crisis in some way.

“Of how many corporate activities in this world would it be possible to say that they are set up to do the will of God? Are there any businesses set up with that expressed purpose? It is farcical to suggest such a thing. How many nations are there to do the will of God? Even to ask the question is absurd. We sometimes hope that the will of God may be behind our national ambitions and desires.

“Our usual escape is to say that the will of God is too mysterious. But I think that the will of God must be simplicity itself. It is the perpetual balancing of probabilities and the clashing of interests that make life so complex.

“In some strange way the will of God waits upon the will of man. Perhaps the main thing is the will to do it. All men are believers. We all live by faith. It is sometimes astonishing what men can believe and what they are willing to die for. He can’t be a complete unbeliever.

“I believe a revolution could be created here if a sufficient number of people banded themselves together in the simple determination to live according to the will of God.

“These people may not be the most ‘regular’ churchgoers. Perhaps in the last analysis people who most resist the will of God are those who mechanically declare their allegiance to Him. They are those who exploit rather than practice religion. The true believers will be the people who simply and honestly live in harmony and peace with each other.”

R2. 7/2/38 [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

Saturday,

Dear Hugh Lynn:-

I have been wanting to write you, or your father ever since my return from the Beach, but it has been an exceptionally busy week in the office, and my evenings have been devoted to the class of Dr. Norman Rittenhouse of Los Angeles, who is a great soul with a great purpose in his present reincarnation. He “sits in the Council of the Mighty” and relays the information given him, - much as your father does except that he is not in trance when doing it. He seems to “tune in” to etheric waves, and “listens”. Being attuned to the plane of the Father what he gets is worth hearing. He says Mr. Cayce will be able to do his present work without trance, thus being, himself, conscious of all that comes through him when and where it transpires.

I know you are glad that the Congress went so beautifully. For myself, - it was a privilege to be there. Edgar Cayce is the most Christed man I have ever met, - altho I put Norman Rittenhouse pretty close to him because he too is not only doing an unselfed work for humanity but LIVING WHAT HE TALKS, - and that is the supreme test. I regret to say I can achieve it only intermittently, finding myself all too frequently slipping down to the level of humanity. However I feel I make progress, and want to again express my gratitude for and appreciation of my last reading which so lovingly points the path and checks my failures to hew to the line. It is proving most salutary. I can truthfully say with old Brother Paul: “I count not myself to have attained, but this thing I know, - forgetting those things that are behind I press forward to the mark of the high calling of Christ Jesus”. I may not have quoted accurately, but that is the substance of the statement…

Will you please convey to your sweet mother my appreciation of her loving hospitality last Sunday, and to each of you my abiding love and friendship.

R3. 7/16/38 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:-

Thank you for your note of July 1st. I have been wanting to write you but my life is very crowded with work necessitated by my job during the daytime, and certain services to people seeking Light when I am out of the office. Between them they tax my time and strength to its utmost. Recently I am afraid I have been giving of myself a bit too freely for I have seemed to have to face an accentuated health problem - or problems - because of expending myself to the point of exhaustion.

So, whenever I don’t answer a message from you promptly please know it is through no lack of desire. I think of you daily and fold you close in the sanctuary of my inner being where all precious associations dwell with me at the roots of my life.

I spent the entire morning writing Hugh Lynn yesterday. Since I asked that you see my letter I will not repeat any of it here.

Yes, I have seen your one-time “lady love” [1468] many times since I was at Virginia Beach. She is planning a weeks vacation sometime during the summer, and to spend it at Virginia Beach, - so you just tell Gertrude to be forewarned and forearmed, for you can never tell what these gals from past incarnations may do! All foolishness aside, - […] is looking forward to her hoped-for week down there, and I am sure you will all bask in her gaiety and charm.

In the interest of humanity I believe it would be worth your while to check the work of Dr. Norman Rittenhouse in some general reading. Should you have the opportunity, and care to do so, I, for one would like to know whether he is a Christ-Messenger, or one of those “in high places who would fool the very elect” (as we are warned in the bible).

You will my remember my speaking to you of him while there and delivering a message he sent you by way of assurance that you can examine the records without losing consciousness.

Here Dr. Rittenhouse was the guest of Julian Lamar, a famous portrait painter, and man of high integrity. The Dr. himself is a Johns Hopkins graduate, is finely educated, a gentleman in every sense of the word, and APPARENTLY INSPIRED.

It would seem that Dr. Rittenhouse tuned in on a very high SPIRITUAL RADIO some five years ago, and since has been able to get on this wave-length AT WILL, and reports back from it. Now all that is fine, and I think will be scientifically established as a possibility before long. So, I am not disturbed by THAT. But I AM DISTURBED BY THE TEACHING HIS REPORTS EMBRACE, and if it has not its foundation in Truth we should know it, because his disciples are many, and growing in number by leaps and bounds.

To go into the teaching would take more time than I have at my disposal, and more effort than I have the strength for to-day, but I can and will say that it departs in many respects from my own concept of Universal Spirit - or God - and our relationship to Him. IF the teaching IS true it will revolutionize the world - absolute REVOLUTIONIZE it. IF it is NOT true than IT IS DAMNABLE.

Here in New York we all heard him discourse as he was “tuned in to what he calls “The Father wave-length”. We were all greatly impressed, - altho, like myself, others wanting greater proof than the Doctor’s say-so of the truth of his report. He has now returned to Los Angeles which is the centre of his activity, and I feel it will be a great service to members of your Association if you can and will check on him and his work, for many who have had your reading, and who are active in furthering your work, heard Dr. Rittenhouse and were profoundly impressed by what he had to say during his stay in New York. For their sakes, as well as the welfare of others, I believe the check justifiable.

I have no personal news, unless you would call a recent decision I have made “news”. Anyway I think it will interest you. My ever-increasing knowledge that my time and strength are a trust from the Father has determined me to renounce all social life save where it presents an opportunity for enlightenment. I spend little time anyway in what is purely social and ineffectual intercourse, but time need not be devoted to even that little. This means a deeper dedication to the purpose of my being in this experience, and a greater consecration to it. In your approach to our Infinite Source in prayer, ask a blessing for me on this new determination please.

I am happy the Congress was such a fine one, and am grateful that I could get there, even though it was for but a short time.

And now - au revoir. Let me hear from you when you have time, and know that always I fold you close in my friendship and in my love.

R4. 7/22/38 EC’s letter to [1472]:

Dear [1472]

This is one time wish could sit down and talk with you about yours of 16th instead of trying to write, for realize express myself so badly when try and write - takes too many words for me to say what I wish to say.

Appreciate your taking the time to write - for know you have a very busy life and you often put your strength to a very trying test - so for you to take the time to write as have have here - well as we say her in the south - it is something-. And want to thank you for all the nice things you said about me in your letter to Hugh Lynn, it is hard enough job to so live as to remain a hero to your own son - but if one can have so good a helper as you to put in a plug for me now and then - well can swell up once and while - and be like Jack Horner.

An how is my one time Lady Love - haven’t heard from her in some time. Do hope she does make the Beach this summer, will be lovely to see and talk with her again.

Now about Dr. Rittenhouse - funny had such a request from some one else there - that said a Mr. Lamar believe it was that works with Dr. Rittenhouse said he was well acquainted with me - possibly he is - but I just don’t know it, but there are a lot of us like that I guess - others are sure they know all about us - when we feel they do not know us at all. Is hard to know just how to check on what someone else is doing or saying - or experiencing - but will be glad to try & answer for any one who wishes to as - if know just what to ask - you know the basis of all my conclusions - conscious and unconscious the Book of Books - they that deny that to me are just on the wrong tract - Oh yes I know it may be me - that is wrong - but they that deny that the Christ has come in the flesh - am sure you as well as I question as to their motives.

And unless a thing answers to a something within our own selves - do not know how we may make it our own - do you? For until we know God as a personal God - can he be our God

• can he be real to us - as to what - how or why He tunes in here or there is possibly not for me to say - the answer surely can be found in what He gives - does to peoples lives
• does it make them more tolerant - more kind - less vindictive - do they show more brotherly love - are they more patient - if so then I say God bless him - does it replace these with any thing - I say have a care.

The renouncing of all social life - may or may not be so well

• it is in such Circles that you are often able to do some of your best work - remember your “People we meet in passing” that has struck me as being one of the biggest thoughts have ever heard - am sure if you keep writing these you will find the place for them soon.

Yes - think our Congress was a decided success - all Praise to HIM we are keeping busy, quite a few are coming down for week ends - have a very well known man coming today - that is in some circles - or the group of the “old” Friends.

Let us hear when ever you find chance to write - all always anxious to hear from you.

R5. 7/28/38 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:-

I was so glad to get your letter. Am snatching a few minutes to send you a message.

Julian Lamar does know all about you. At least he knows as much as I have been able to tell him. He is a famous portrait painter and a very dear friend of mine. He has read all the literature of the Asso. and I have also read him parts of my Life Reading and my Palestine one. So, I rather think the person who told you that Mr. Lamar claims to know you must have meant that he claims to know ABOUT you. He is a gentle man of great culture and high integrity and would never misrepresent anything, I am sure.

When here, Dr. Rittenhouse was Mr. Lamar’s guest at his studio. Dr. Rittenhouse is also a very cultured, fine person, and I’m afraid I was too sketchy about him in my last letter to give you any sort of understanding about him. Some five years ago the Dr. and his wife simultaneously - while perfectly conscious - tuned in on some etheric wave where they received information regarding the establishment of the new Spiritual Government of the United States. They claim the plan for same has already been place by the Father, and will dawn upon human consciousness full-orbed within the next four years. They claim to be a Unit through which this information is coming through, and the plan is as stupendous as it is magnificent. It would be impossible to go into it, but its basic principles in no way repudiate the teachings of Jesus. In fact they claim that Jesus is still working for the earth plane in bringing about the new spiritual dispensation. (I mean the Rittenhouses claim it.) Mr. Lamar is entirely “sold” on the information and is therefore closely associated with Dr. Rittenhouse in furthering the spiritual enlightenment of the world as it comes through this channel - or “Unit” as they call it.

Since it has a far-reaching effect on the whole world, IF TRUE, I just thought perhaps in some GENERAL reading you might ask a question by way of checking its reliability.

Now another thing about which I didn’t seem to be clear in my last letter to you: I didn’t mean that I am shutting myself away from people when I said I was renouncing “social life”. By “social life” I mean those useless hours one frivols away at times. Of course I shall not cut out social contacts which mean mutual spiritual stimulation, or offer service. As a matter of fact two-thirds of my time and strength are spent (when away from my work) talking to friends, - or strangers, - who feel I can light the candle of spiritual understanding for them. Add this to a very exacting job in which I contact literal thousands and you will be able to understand the decision to be discriminating regarding the precious hours, - that none be used futilely, or in any sense wasted.

[1561] phoned me to-day that he is to spend the week-end at Virginia Beach, so you will be seeing him of course. I find him a spiritually illumined person, and feel it a privilege to know him.

R6. 8/19/38 [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:-

It was so nice to get your letters of Aug 6th and 8th. Keeping in close touch with you gives me a greater sense of security in this turbulent world. That is because you - as I

• want the eternal rather than the ephemeral. There is a direct honesty and simplicity which you represent to me which makes you very dear and very valuable. I want never to lose you - here or when we go to the next room of experience. Please always remember this.

So much has been happening to me since last I wrote you I hardly know where to begin the narrative.

The most important of numerous curious happenings is the fact that a man named Von Zehle has either stolen, or himself conceived, the identical idea as that embraced in my “Folk We Touch in Passing” program; has prepared a program on exactly the same lines, and has sold it to the Nestle Chocolate people. The broadcast is to begin Sunday night, Sep. 4th, according to their schedule.

I have engaged a lawyer, and we will get out an injunction to prohibit the broadcast if they insist upon going on the air with my idea. It would seem they intend to go right ahead, as both Von Zehle, and the advertising agency which sold his program, say their respective lawyers tell them I can’t stop them. My own lawyer is by no means sure that we can, but we shall at least try.

It has been many a moon since anything happened to me which plunged me into such deep discouragement. The main reason for this is that I know the manner in which I would present my “Folk We Touch in Passing” program would arrest thought, and do something toward quickening the spiritual aspiration and awareness of the world. Mr. Von Zehle is, I understand, approaching the same concept that I have from a purely materialistic standpoint, - just a commercial program presented for its commercial value.

I confess I find it difficult to understand just where is the protection of our Father for His own ideas and their helpfulness to the world when such a thing as this is happening. Had I wanted to do the program because of personal ambition; because of money, or any other selfish reason I would accept the slap in the face without a moment’s resentment. But selfishness is not at the bottom of all the effort I have made to find a sponsor for the “Folk We Touch in Passing” program that I might get on the air with it, and I have come nearer being bitter about it than anything has made me in many years. For a week I felt all lines to my Cosmic Source cut, but this morning I seemed, in my meditation, to regain my contact, and come to some degree of acceptance without demanding understanding. I can surely trust His wisdom whether I understand His reasons or not!

This thing just can’t be that some one is taking your idea “Folk we touch in passing” and capitalizing upon it - certainly hope not any way, you know have been so anxious about that idea - for you have one of the best have ever heard - and there must be something you can do about it - goodness that would be just terrible, but just hope every thing will work out alright - and they can’t take it away from you.

Thanks for the nice things you say about my feeble effort - but gosh if they do this to you - well doesn’t seem right - but let’s hope they don’t.

Think can appreciate the feeling you have about “Folk we touch in passing” from an experience had once, in writing a story - tho with me must have been the other fellow had the idea first - but with a game made once - had the same experience - but this just musn’t happen to you.

Hope it is all fixed up with out hard feelings of any kind - and that it can and will do the good you had felt it would - for am sure there is more to be gotten from such a message as you gave in your scripts than have even seen in any have heard over the air.

Hope the information given for Mr. [1561] and friends proves helpful - if dreams mean any thing it will - Sorry to hear Miss [1468] has a cold, hope she has gotten hold of her self and thrown it off.

Was pretty sure the Mr. Lamar that was supposed to try and get in touch with me - was not the one you knew.

Well, soon the fall and winter work will start in every direction and you will be hearing something from all the irons you have in fire - believe tho you are going to West Coast.

Yes - you are right - God is Just - we may not always see it or feel it but just doing our duty as we see it - then keeping quiet about it is best.

Hope you do make that week end trip - to see you only for a day would be lovely, hope you can and will do that in the very near future.

• been away two weeks, think you will be hearing from him - but one doesn’t like to be neglected, or put off for something else. We seem to be made that way.

Have had two very lovely groups here recently - people that have enjoyed very much - the first Quakers believe was aware of that were interested have been here now for more than week-end have come in ever so often to talk with me - do hope have been of some small help - they [Mr. [1662] & Mrs. [1661]] express themselves as being pleased with what has been given - the other a lady [Mrs. [1663]] the wife of one of the Prof. in a very prominent So. College - the work is new to her - but has travelled a great deal, and an exceptionally fine person I think she has become very interested - and is in a place possibly that she may be able to disseminate the good if she has found any. Both have been very interesting for last ten days or two weeks as they have come in ever so often.

Haven’t heard from the [1151]‘s - guess they have had their vacation up on the island.

I am going to assist [1602] with her tea for you Tuesday afternoon, April 25th, and am wondering if you would feel equal to going with me that same night to see “Family Portrait”, which is a most beautiful and reverent presentation of the family of Jesus and the reactions of his own relatives and neighbors to his work. Judith Anderson gives a transcendent performance as Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the whole play is beautiful and beautifully done. I have already seen it but it would give me great joy to go again if I might give you the privilege of seeing it while you are here. If you would like to do so, and feel you can go Tuesday evening, LET ME KNOW AT ONCE that I may buy tickets, as they are hard to get unless bought far in advance.

I think something I had to say to a woman yesterday may interest you. She is a Miss Gluckert from Philadelphia. I do not know her but she would seem to be one of my radio fans, so she wrote Albert Mitchell, “The Answer Man” on WOR, asking him to tell his audience “what is the religion of [1472] as they would all like to know.” Mr. Mitchell did not feel this a subject to broadcast so he asked me to answer her letter privately. I am inclosing you a copy of it. It is the first time I have been asked to state my religious platform to a perfect stranger, and it brought me a curious experience. As I don’t know the person asking the information I felt I should write her something superficial,

• by which I mean shield my true concepts in the matter. With this in mind I penciled a note to her on a pad, and sat down at my typewriter to copy it. As I was about to begin typing a voice said: “Tell her the truth. If she asked she is ready for what you actually are and do. Why camouflage it?”

Being obedient to my Inner Voice I didn’t copy a word of the note I had written out in pencil but instead wrote and sent her the letter of which the inclosed is a copy [See Par. R14 below].

To me MY LIFE IS MY RELIGION.
