This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of May, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [2505], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘37 - yes - ‘29 - sudden changes - ‘18 - a change - ” etc. on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the record here of that entity now called [2505].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, it will not be easy to give the differentiation in the changes that have come in the present experience of the entity and those that have been a part of the entity’s experience through sojourns in the material plane.

5. The records written upon time and space are the activities of the entity, and what it has done about the ideal chosen through the experiences in the material plane.

6. To be sure, there are influences that are termed astrological. These are not because of the position of any planet - sun, moon or stars, but because of the entity’s attainment through those interims. Thus, being within this present solar system, all are a part of the entity’s experience, as they - the planets, the experiences - are consciously, unconsciously or subconsciously, a part of the entity’s experience.

7. Thus they are latent or manifested, according to that use the entity may make OF such under periods of activity when in those environs. The urges come either through the influences from the application of self in the material plane, or - latently, through the deeper spiritual urge - from those consciousnesses in the astrological aspects.

8. Certain names or conditions are accredited to the planetary influences; not because of their position, but because what the entity has done about such urges yields or wields that influence.

9. Yet no influence of any nature - astrologically, hereditary or environmental - surpasses the will of the entity, the birthright of each and every soul.

10. For, the individual will is that influence making an entity above other influences in creation; thus being a part of all creation, depending upon the application - or the adherence to the ideal that is set.

11. As indicated, many changes as to ideals and as to purposes have been a part of the entity’s experience through this present sojourn.

12. Hence in interpreting the record as we find here, these are chosen in the present with the desire and purpose that this information may be a helpful experience for this entity; enabling it to better fill the purpose for which it chose to enter this present experience.

13. For, it is not by chance that one enters, but purposefully; that the Creative Forces, or God, may be manifested. He has given opportunities into the keeping of each soul, and through the activities of this entity - because of the abilities entrusted to the entity - His glory, His grace, His love, His mercy may be more magnified.

14. Thus may the activities of the entity be such as to minimize the faults and magnify the virtues, as it walks among and before its fellow men.

15. Astrologically we find Jupiter as a universal consciousness in the experience of the entity. This is not acquired, yet - through application in the present experience - it has become a part of the entity’s consciousness, as a universal influence for good, for that as may be helpful and hopeful.

16. There are the abilities of the entity to enable others to gather, by experiences, that as may be of individual natures; whether real or imaginary; as to become helpful influences in the lives of others.

17. For, as an individual entity finds self in a three-dimensional world, - as illustrated in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, - so the body, mind and soul are the shadow of that to which the entity grows, and from which it emanates. Thus the individual does not GO to heaven, or paradise, or the universal consciousness, but it GROWS to same; through the use of self in those things that are virtues, through the applying of the abilities towards that consciousness.

18. Hence, in the abilities as an instructor, as a writer, as a lecturer, the entity may find - in its activities among its associates - an outlet not only for self but for a hopeful, helpful influence in the experiences of others.

19. Know that good alone lives on, as may be manifested in love, hope, kindness, patience, brotherly love, long-suffering. These alone are the fruit of the spirit of truth. Those things that bring doubt, fear, distrust, inharmony, are the seed of sin, and grow - as tares - in the experiences of others.

20. In Mercury we find the high mental abilities as a reasoner, as one that directs the thoughts by comparisons - as lessons. Hence much of that as may be written or depicted in tract, leaflet, or in speech, may be done in the form of parable, or in drawing conclusions from those activities that would bring such into the consciousness of those who would THINK on such things.

21. Also in Uranus we find the extremes in the entity’s experience; and its interest in those things of an occult or of a scientific nature, those things that may be used in depicting characterizations of individuals in their activity - the use of the unusual and the great extremes.

22. Know that only in Him - the way, the truth and the light - do extremes meet; that which emanates from that force, that power, that might, is indeed the way, the truth, the light.

23. Hence in thy conversation, in thy activity, in thy writing, in thy emulating those influences for the edification of others, tie all to THAT life, that light - which is the light of the world.

24. As to the appearances of the entity in the earth’s plane, - to be sure, not all may be indicated here, from this one interpretation. However, these are indicated as those influences that have brought about certain characteristics in the personality of the entity. Just as the astrological sojourns indicate some individualities of the entity, and the manner in which the mind develops, or acts, or reacts to conditions and things about the entity. So in the earthly appearances we find the emotions, combined with the influence latent in the individuality of the entity. The individuality is that builded. The personality is that with which the individual works in its associations with others, and thus finds expression more often in the emotions - or the phases of consciousness to which the entity responds.

25. Before this, then, the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods when there were turmoils caused in the minds of many because of an unprecedented manner in which individuals might enrich themselves with this world’s goods - or the discoveries of gold.

26. Thus the entity is imbued, latently, with the seeking for the unusual. For, the entity was among those who attempted to join in those activities, by the journeying westward; though little of the experience of actually seeking out treasure was a part of the entity’s experience.

27. Hence little of this is a part of the present experience, but that as prompts the movement, that as of adventure, that which causes men to react in given directions because of physical and mental and spiritual import is a part of the mental experience of the entity in the present.

28. The name then was George Gancroft, and it may be said that the entity gained more than it lost, though - from the purely material judgments - it might appear that the life was ill spent in gaining material things.

29. Thus in the present we find the activities in which the material things have never been the first and foremost purpose, but have rather been - as they should be - the result of spiritual and mental interpretations of divine laws that bring their own reward, as does virtue.

30. Before that the entity was in the Promised Land, during those periods when there were the activities among special groups that had been preparing themselves, materially as well as mentally, as channels through which there might be the fulfilling of that which had been the promise to those of old.

31. Thus the entity was with that group of peoples known as the Essenes, and acquainted with those in the positions of the priests as well as those in authority among the various groups.

32. Hence the entity was acquainted with Zacharias, with Judy [1472], with those of the household of faith, with Anna, as well as others who sought and who interpreted for the peoples of the day that happening.

33. Thus the INNATE psychic force that is a part of the entity’s interest, as well as from the astrological aspect in Uranus.

34. Thus the entity was a part of that activity as brought into that experience those influences from which arose the awareness that brought not only the Wise Men of the East but those of other groups who were looking for the awakening which might again bring hope into the lives and hearts of men; that light which shines in the darkness ever, since God became manifested in the earth.

35. There is the continual looking forward again, in the present, for that necessity of groups and of individuals to prepare themselves for that great and mighty day of the coming of the Lord.

36. Throughout that experience there were material hardships at times, yet great mental and spiritual understanding was attained by the entity.

37. Thus we may find in the present much of that indicated through the abilities for deep meditation, awakening itself to the experiences of old, that may bring the awareness and the abilities for opening the ways to many for the greater understanding.

38. Tie them ever - in thy interpreting, in thy admonitions - to the Cross, as well as to the Birth.

39. These were the experiences of the entity throughout that sojourn, as Jarael, - among those that led in that group that aided John, as well as the Master, Jesus, in their early periods of education and interpretation of the various tenets that were the experience of that group during that particular period.

40. And it was owing to much of the efforts of the entity that THAT group became one with that known as the Christian way, - or Christianity.

41. Before that the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land, during that period in “the city in the hills and the plains,” when that center was turned into a meeting place for the groups who journeyed east and west, north and south; where exchanges were made, as that center grew into a commercial place as well as one for edification and education and practical application of the tenets of truth.

42. The entity was among those of the household of the King in that land and period, but with the activities begun by Uhjltd the entity joined in same, - when there was the practical application for healing as well as the hopeful experiences brought into the mental associations of the groups in various lands.

43. Hence the entity is a very good linguist in the present, as well as an interpreter of language of various groups. And these abilities may stand well in the activities of the entity in making known that truth - would that all should learn - KNOW THE LORD THY GOD IS ONE!

44. This in all its phases means much, once comprehended to its fullest meaning and as to its activity.

45. The name then was Esdrahel.

46. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there were those turmoils that had arisen when there was the breaking up of Atlantis and the entry of those individuals into Egypt for the preserving of records.

47. The entity then was the scribe of the Atlanteans who entered Egypt.

48. When there was the reestablishing of the Priest, and when there was the unifying of the endeavors for the material as well as the spiritual and moral uplift of the peoples, then the unity of thought of the various groups was directed by the entity.

49. Thus those from the land of Said [Saneid?], of On and other lands, were unified under the directions of the entity then, - as Esser.

50. In the present there are the abilities of the entity to interpret for varied groups that have taken a small portion of a truth and so twisted same as to be only half a truth, and to aid in unifying those influences in the lives and in the minds of others.

51. Thus as a lecturer, as a writer, as a director in such, the entity may find the outlet for the betterment of that place in which the entity finds itself working here or there.

52. As to the abilities of the entity, then, and that to which it may attain and how:

53. First, analyze self and its purposes, and know in Whom as well as in what ye have believed. Know that He in Whom ye have believed is able to keep that ye may commit unto Him against any experience that may arise in thy sojourn in the earth, or in any sphere of consciousness.

54. For, life is the manifestation of that force ye call God, in whatever form it may appear; and is ONE!

55. Then, study to show thyself approved unto thy ideal, finding fault only in that which is in opposition to the truth of God, in activity in the earth through His Son.

56. Keep self unspotted from the world; condemning not self, but rather losing self in love - as ye have sought for thy fellow men.

57. The field of activity is in writing, in lecturing, and in service of one to another.

58. Ready for questions.

59. (Q) Will my expression go into new dimensions in regard to publishing and establishing of homes? (A) This CAN be made to be a most worthy and worth while expression. This will be accepted, eventually. Be not impatient. Hold fast to the purpose ye have set.

60. (Q) What of Richard Haliburton’s house and me? (A) This is well.

61. (Q) Any connection with movies? (A) Eventually.

62. (Q) Sale or disposal of apartment house? (A) We do not find this in the immediate. Eventually this may come about. We do not find this as something to worry about, for it has been indicated as to the manner in which the mind is held; that the needs or necessities are supplied if the purposes and activities are in the right directions.

63. (Q) Any difficulty in N.Y. with cancellation of book contract? (A) No difficulty. Some alterations, but no difficulty.

64. (Q) Will expected gift or legacy come through this year? (A) We do not find this in the experience. Not that it may not come, but it is not as a part of the record here - as yet.

65. (Q) Will the new expression come suddenly? (A) It may GROW, as has been indicated. The awareness may be sudden, but it comes by growth. For, ye grow in grace, in knowledge, in understanding, as the natural and the spiritual laws are applied in thy experience.

As ye do to thy fellow man, ye do to thy Maker. He has given, “If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.” His commandments are not grievous, but are rather lacking in that of selfishness.

66. (Q) Will my writing become more secular as time goes on? (A) More universal than secular.

67. (Q) Will Dark Justice ever make the grade? (A) This depends upon just what is thought, or the manner in which it is thought. This is as of individual. For, as ye understand, - an entity, a soul, is a unit; and that awareness becomes a personal thing by the individualizing of same in the entity’s experience - by its application in its association with others.

68. We are through for the present.

R1. The last question [in 2505-1] was regarding a book called Dark Justice, while the answer seems to have regarded it as a dark force of some kind. “Richard Haliburton is an author whose books I don’t like - I’ve never met him - but feel sort of professional jealousy, I suppose you’d call it - and felt that the Reading could explain this. I realize I’ve asked my questions in the wrong manner.

“My idea about the establishing of homes is to establish retreats, where people may go who want to be quiet and do their work.

“My books are published under the name of Hugo […] - it is my grandfather’s name - but I thought perhaps I should change my pen name now to something else, that would have a more popular appeal.” [Only question listed not asked: Will I again associate with Gordon Wallace?]

“Heard about your work thru a woman named Bessie - didn’t know her last name - met her on a yacht - said she had never had a Reading, but thought by all means I should stop here on my way to N.Y. She was a small lady, English appearing.”

R2. 6/12/41 GD’s note: Mrs. [2513] obtained a Life Rdg. via his recommendation. She, a wealthy widow, asked about marriage to a man much younger. We thought she was referring to Mr. [2505].

R3. 8/25/41 Mrs. [1472]‘s letter to HLC:

Dear Hugh Lynn:

The attached letter from [2505] and my reply to it need but little embellishment. Please show both to your father and return to me after you have both read them.

I suggest that you each read the answer to the question I asked about in the reading Edgar gave me just after my return from California. This would be June 1938. [1472-6, Par. 26-A, 27-A] I think you will both find what was said very illuminating.

[2505] is a lecturer on metaphysics and the author of some thirty books along the same lines. He is widely heard and widely read. [5/29/38 See her report on [2505] under 1472-3, Par. R11. Also see 1472-6, Par. 26-A, 27-A warning her of [2505]‘s influence.]

When he was here in the late Summer and Fall two years ago he was furious with me because I went to Virginia Beach over the Labor Day week-end instead of staying here and hearing him lecture. He wrote me a letter asking: “What has Edgar Cayce to give you that I have not?” And when he returned to California he wrote me a very resentful letter because I had not given him more of my time. The reason I went to none of his lectures and saw no more of him than necessary is found in the answer the “reading” mentioned above gave to my question about him.

Please let me know if there is any truth in [2505]‘s statement that the Association has tried to get George Wehner [George Wehner, Spiritualist] to work with your father. It is important that I know this at once, for, if [2505] is still in New York, he will spread this report, and nothing could be more disastrous to Edgar’s work in MY estimation than to have him associated in the thought of people with George Wehner. I, therefore, want to be in a position to deny such a claim as [2505] makes if it is not true, as I feel sure it is not.

Do let me hear from you, and give my love to all the family.

R4. [1472]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:-

I wrote a note to Hugh Lynn to-day to inclose a letter I received this morning from [2505] and my reply to same. I asked him to show both to you before returning them, and suggested that both you and Hugh Lynn read the answer given me in a reading I had in June of 1938 [1472-6 Par. 26-A, 27-A] regarding [2505]. I think it will explain much to you.

The only thing that disturbed me about the [2505] letter was his statement about George Wehner had told him he (Wehner) had been sought by the Directors of our Association to work with you. I do not believe a word of this, and asked Hugh Lynn to let me know if it is true in any sense. I couldn’t imagine your working with a person like George Wehner, who is, in my opinion, controlled by earth-bound spirits.

R5. 8/26/41 EC’s reply to Mrs. [1472]:

Dear [1472]:

Have yours of the 25th - also saw the letter to H. L. and the letter from and to Mr. [2505]. So will reply at once. You of course are quite right in assuming there could possibly be no connection between Geo Wehner and me. Have met him, of course, but how any one could even imagine there could be any associations, well, don’t quite know. Remember Mr. [2505] very well and the circumstances of his visit here. What he evidently told you and what he said to me when here, doesn’t sound as if they came from the same purpose in life, maybe they do from same source as we ordinarily know it, but not from the same spiritual source. Sounds much more like the suggestion to you in your reading. That should be enough said.

Have had letters from several to whom he sent literature while here and The Master was right - “By their fruits Ye Shall Know Them.”

R6. 8/27/41 HLC’s letter to [1472]:

Dear Mrs. [1472]:

Thank you very much for your recent letter regarding [2505]. The information in the Reading certainly seems to check up on him. He seems to be a nice person and very much interested in himself, and a Life Reading brought this out. People don’t like to face themselves even when it’s put in a nice manner. I am returning the copies of the letters to you.

Regarding the contact with George Wehner, I can assure you that the Association has not made any proposals to Wehner, naturally you would have known about such steps if they had been taken. I think Dave Kahn knows George and years ago under the old Association when Mr. Blumenthal was active, a number of sittings were held with him. I was present for some of these myself. Wehner’s statements undoubtedly refer to his contact with Kahn and Blumenthal, and in no way related to our present organization or program. As you know, we have at one time or another run into practically everyone in this field.

We are looking forward to seeing the Dillmans this weekend and hope they are planning to buy a home somewhere in this vicinity. It would indeed, be a good idea if you would consider the same plane. The time is not so far away when we all may need a little ground to grow what we need for sustenance. I can see possibilities in some specialized farming with the Association estates operating under a general head with each one furnishing and exchanging certain particular items. Shall I put your field down for wheat, or wheat for the chickens to eat? There have been many Platonic dreams of such programs down through the ages.

I am particularly interested in this whole idea, in view of the fact that I have decided to get married October 10th. The girl whom I am going to make supremely happy is Sally Taylor. Yah! I think you met her here at the Congress sometime ago.

We are still hoping to see you sometime before log. It would be nice if you could come down for a week-end at least.
