This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of May, 1938, in accordance with request made by the mother - […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., but this Reading given without charge - to check up on the condition for the benefit of all concerned.

Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Michigan. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [1527].

2. Now as we find, while conditions show a great deal of improvement in some directions, there are conditions-physical to be considered that grow to become a part of the general physical structural body as developments arise, and as changes are brought about.

3. Owing to the lack of coordination in the connection between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic nervous systems, especially through the sacral and lumbar areas, the connections or ends are being impoverished by or through the lack of circulation in the areas over which there have been the applications for the lesions - or adhesions, rather - in the caecum and lacteal duct area.

4. Then now, as the adhesions are being broken up, rather than creating coordinant forces between those nerve ends in the sacral and lumbar where they connect with the brush end of the cerebrospinal system, they become rather inclined to be bulbous.

5. Thus a more perfect coordination is prevented in the impulses from the cerebrospinal to the centers responding to same in portions of brain that become a part of the natural reaction or refraction from nerve impulses as received for activity in same.

6. As we would find then in the present, we would - with this information - take the body to Dr. Thompson, as indicated; have the examination, you see, for just these conditions that have been indicated.

7. But before the applications or treatments are begun (unless there will be the cooperation with the suggestions made) let the doctor then examine and ask the questions - and then we will undertake to give the direction as to what is to be done.

8. Do not let up on the applications of the Packs as yet, nor the tablets that have been taken from time to time.

9. But that these spasmodic reactions have been allayed, there must be - for the better mental coordination through the submerged forces and distribution of energies - the mechanical or mechanotherapy treatments gently given, as well as that which is for the general mental and spiritual influences in the body, see?

10. Each soul, each entity - as was given from the beginning - should gain this, as in relation to the activity of spirit through bodily forces:

11. Is there more of God or Life in a brainy individual adult than in the babe without ANY direction whatsoever? IS there?

12. It is then a growing condition.

13. The body with a broken structural condition will heal, but unless it is mechanically set in proper accord it will NOT set of itself!

14. The manifestation of spirit in materiality is to use WHAT IT HAS and to do the best it can with same!

15. But the PHYSICAL is to use cooperative natures; cooperating with nature, cooperating with spirit, cooperating with mind, to make for that which will be the WHOLE!

16. For what is the first law? “The Lord thy God is ONE!”

R1. 5/4/38 Letter to EC from [1527]‘s mother:

“The Reading is now over once again.

“[1527] and I felt a wonderful vibration this time. We prayed with you and at the end we sent you a blessing in the Father.

“We kept silence. After, [1527] said that he seemed to go to the halls of his dream and see JESUS at the far end, and that the Lord said, ‘there is no need to come right thru [1527], you are free, and just always remember this - Walk on the Path of Light.’ [1527] said he seemed to try to go back, and in - twice more - and that the third time, it seemed like someone came to him and lifted a heavy black cloak from his shoulder saying he was quite free now.

“After [1527] told me this, he voluntarily said that he had forgiven everyone he ever knew of all hard thoughts to him as he would be forgiven, and now wanted to start life all over - anew. That he had no hard thoughts to anyone at all. He was friends to all.

“I myself, felt that this was his confession to the Father within. And asked a blessing.

“Myself, I never in my life felt such glorious upliftment as during the Reading. It was like Sun shining through every cell of my consciousness.

“I feel sure this must have been FELT by you. Marvellous. So, I shall be longing to hear from you.

R2. 5/9/38 Letter to [1527]‘s mother from EC:

“Thank you for yours of 4th. Was very lovely of you to write as you did - am happy indeed that you both had such a lovely experience, felt very sure there was a much better contact than had had another time. His presence is what is so desired by each of us - is just the assurance that is needed. Now the suggestion is to work with Dr. […] - please know these are not to make expense for you. Appreciate your contribution, but please know we are not trying to make a bill for you. Well that is all OK.

“Will be anxious to know when you have had Dr. Thompson look him over and ask him please to write me if he will.

“Pardon me - have a busy day - today so many coming in am interfered with and want to sit down and write you as the spirit directs - can’t with interruptions like this.

“All praise and Glory to HIM alone who can set us free - even of our own selves.

“With love from all here to you and yours.”

R3. 5/16/38 Letter to EC from [1527]‘s mother:

“At last I find the right moment to write to you.

“First of all, I must tell you that I took the duplicate Reading to Dr. Thompson and so that is at last, all in order. He gave [1527] an examination, and said that the places referred to, were all correct as per Reading. Then, said that there really was one BAD spot in the spinal column that actually WOULD cause the reaction in just the organs as Reading, too.

“So because I surely intend to do JUST all we are told, I said for him to go ahead with treatments. Which he started last Thursday. Today [1527] had his second with Dr. T.

“I must tell you that [1527] is just simply CRAZY about the doctor. He is absolutely taken with him. Just loves him for some reason or other. He says that he has a touch like no other doctor ever seemed to have and in general the ‘SYMPATHETIC’ system must have made a good contact. What do you think?

“So, I am surely glad. He was just as happy too, today.

“The doctor says he may take quite some time. However, he said the reaction was better than he thought today, so he said. I’m giving [1527] a GOOD workout this time. Well, it seems fine. He said there might be a stir up between the first treatment up to today and not to worry, if there was. But there was NOT.

“I tell you all this to make you happy too. You know how I mean. The FATHER uses us to say HIS words, for our comfort each to the other.

“I told the Doctor that he must be a good transmitter, for the UNIVERSAL Power if he couldn’t see it from the Way of the Fatherhood idea, and we managed to have quite an enjoyable time. He surely is a fine young man in any case. Likes you a great lot too.

“So, we are going right ahead. And I will let you hear right along and then we will see how to proceed, won’t we? I do appreciate everything and YOU! I feel that you were an answer to many prayers. That, the Father knows.”

R4. 5/22/38 Letter to EC from [1527]:

“Thank you for your very interesting reading and letter, really the reason I have not written before is because I have not been feeling up to my true healthy being. The second reading you sent me, was not perfect - because - some force seemed to come in between you and me. With the net result was not perfect - as you already know, there just was no contact between you and me. I have already thought of you as a friend, more as a friend than as a source of information! Something I have not said, is I have had no truer friends than you Mr. Cayce and my father & mother, you have all stood by me when I most needed friends. Since your readings I have had the most wonderful visions several of which were to do with Dr. Thompson & were of great help to me. The art of relaxation being one. For some unknown reason I have some feeling between you & me, what I do not know, but it seems to be of extreme sincereness & faith. I shall be writing again

R5. 5/23/38 Mother’s letter to EC:

“[480] has been on a trip to Atlantic City for a rest and I understand from Dr. T. that she will be back in … for Decoration Day. She did call me the week ago last Saturday again. I urged her to keep ‘faith’ for I said I KNEW her mother [601] would want her to. She said, ‘yes, deep down inside of me, I am’. But she said this past year she has had so much to go through. The Friday evening before her telephone call [1527] and I sat here, talking about her (he never met her nor her mother) and he said he ‘SAW’ Mrs. [601]. He described her to me, exactly. Said he saw her also lying on a couch in ‘purple robes and gold’ somewhere! He described her disposition and manner perfectly. Then he said, ‘you know, mother, I’m something like Mr. Cayce. I can’t say HOW, but I am!’

“He decided to write you. Please remember he has been on the ‘borderline’ and during the last year made a great comeback, won’t you? I am going to enclose his odd letter just as it is. He talks far older, and seems so, than he writes. I think it pretty terrible, for letter. But he would be horribly hurt if I’d not send it to you. So, will you write him a few words.

“Today we were at Dr. Thompson’s, and he was astonished at the speedy adjustment that seems to be taking place in the bad spot of [1527]‘s spinal column. He said he was so busy he had not got around to sending a letter to you, but for me to say he sure would. He really talked like he was astonished at the way [1527] was taking all the adjustments so finely.

“But not us! eh? WE know the POWER, don’t we?

“I’ve been thinking quite a bit about Mrs. Cayce lately - maybe through seeing her name on each Reading. Pretty soon I’ll be making a little pleasure for her too. It needs a firm belief - oh, I know, and great faith to keep on keeping on, BUT it’s true - all we believe - oh yes it is. My heart tells me, so.

“The ONE God expresses Himself, here and NOW - through LOVE. And, you must LOVE all men to want to help them, in this way. So HE must be a Great Big Lot of LOVE right within YOU. Grand? Of course! Just wonderful!

R6. 5/26/38 EC’s letter to [1527]:

“Certainly was swell of you to write me. Appreciate it very much. Hope now that you are beginning to feel better you will write me real often. Am sure that you are finding Dr. Thompson one fine guy - a real person - and hope you and he will come along just fine and dandy.

“You are quite right, it is not always possible to make the contact that assures the closeness of the Christ Consciousness we all desire. We are still very human and have a good example in Peter who could in one breath declare Jesus The Son of the Living God and in the next tell him what was and what was necessary for him to do. Any way just hope you are seeing the light that takes away all darkness and fear and are coming into your own realization of your sonship with the Maker.

“Some time when you feel like it, [1527] write down some of those visions. Am sure you can and will have many worthwhile experiences. Of course you know it isn’t the happening, but what we do about it that makes it a real experience.

“There must be some association between us somewhere along the line. Possibly we can find that someday when we have your Life reading and see just what branch of Service for the Christ you will work best in.

“Take care of Mother - please remember me to Dr. Thompson, and write me again real soon.”

R7. 6/9/38 Letter to EC from [1527]‘s mother:

“At last here comes the outstanding balance. And with it my thanks and a blessing for your kindness and patience.

“Now, about [1527].

“Well, he took, I think eight or nine adjustments from Dr. Thompson now.

“This week he has not been able to take them. For on Tuesday evening, there was quite a mishap.

“We spend each Tuesday somewhere in the country quietly, as Mr. […] has a ‘day off’. We had been fishing in the St. Clair Lake - a lovely quiet time. Came home around 7 P.M. had a simple dinner. Then [1527] slipped out and played ‘catch’ with two boys back of the apartment here. Not rough play, for I went to look for him. A few minutes later we were called. He had said goodnight to his boys, and turned to come in, and I guess had a QUICK sharp attack. They say he fell like a log. Fell backwards and really was right out. Has now the appearance of a soldier in battle. Called a doctor, very near, and it needed a stitch on the back of head.

“Really has come along fine. However, I called Dr. Thompson about 9:30 P.M. after the fray and talked it over with him and he knew we would have to omit our visits - both this week.

“Now, don’t worry. For before they brought [1527] in, I took time to take it all to the Father, and HE gave me calmness, and the understanding that HE IS THE LIFE THAT HEALS ALL THINGS, and it seemed that I have not been a bit worried since, for I know that HE is taking care of it all.

“The doctor predicted all kind of dire results. But I just listened to God. And [1527] did not have a thing the doctor predicted at all. He is inconvenienced with a bandage round the head but otherwise, no temperature, no terrible results at all. My folks are puzzled. But WE know, don’t we? All things are alright if we just leave them to the Father. Just as I have no doubt of the final answer either.

“Even Doctor T. is a trifle surprised at the way this very deep indentation in the spine, at first has straightened. He said it would take many months and now he doesn’t quite know how long. Well, I BELIEVE THE READING, so I feel that it will be soon that he will say, ‘well, it IS straight.’ Yes sir, I have faith.

“So, this morning I gave [1527] his oil pack and will give him another two this week. Then, we will go on with the adjustments, Monday.

“The second Reading, giving the number of adjustments stated 10 to 15 in all. And while it did say two each week for about two weeks, then one a week for the balance, the doctor T. said he hated to let me go to one a week too quickly. And, while this made me very uneasy, I felt that you yourself would want me to trust him, being he really IS the channel the Reading chose, for the work to be done THROUGH.

“I feel sure that he will be very true in telling me when he feels there is completion. For he is sincere in every way. And reasonable. I have paid him each time to be sure that there was the right thing done.

“That is why I have been a little longer this time with yourself.

“But I am sure you will forgive me, this.

“If you can, and you feel it right, I have two channels I would like to give - a little white booklet about your work to - in fact, three. If right, would you like to let me have them. These people have astrology classes based on Truth and both cases have asked about the Readings, hearing the good that has come. They might be channels for much good, for both you, and those also helped THROUGH you.

“I also felt I’d like to send one to Mr. J. Benner, Editor of the INNER LIFE magazine, Sun Publishing Co., AKRON, Ohio. He is the most grand SOUL teaching humanity to find the Father, within, through the Impersonal Life teachings. He is our Brother in Christ, indeed, and I love him as such.

“Oh, what grand souls we find when we learn to know them as they are in the Father of ALL. It alters, everything, doesn’t it?

“Your part in HIS work, is so precious to me, though, that I would never think of discussing it unless I KNEW the SOUL was seeking Truth through it. You know what I mean. To me it is a marvellous part of GOD in ACTION, through this one known as ‘you’ here, on earth for HIM. Isn’t it wonderful? How blessed.

“And so, it is we work for HIM. Just hand, in hand.

R8. 6/21/38 Mother’s letter to EC:

“His cut from the fall came out fine. But last week he had a terrible reaction after so long too. But it’s no wonder - such a bang to need a stitch was enough to shake up a strong person, let alone - his type.

“He had an attack in the night twice and two others - daytime. So, he looks like a cyclone had torn around this week. Believe me he is shaky. However this is Tuesday and since last Thursday night - he has been O.K. - which is gaining again. However, I have given him several extra castor-oil packs this past two weeks to help the nerves in the stomach region, for I realize the tension there, owing to the Solar-plexus center being in that region - and being it is the ‘brain’ (I think) of the sympathetic nervous system. Thus, I have an idea that a tension would ‘clamp’ up the duct mentioned in his Readings - ‘duodenum’ etc., as a result of his fall possibly. So, it seemed right to revert to a few extra packs - which I am doing.

“He was not able to take his adjustments last week with the head taped up etc. But we went downtown yesterday to Dr. T. And I was pleased to find that the ‘back’ had NOT slipped out of place. Dr. T. said that [1527] had ‘fooled him’ completely with the speed with which his adjustment had been made. He had planned it would take months. Here we are with about 12 treatments and the work about PERFECT already. However, you, Mr. Cayce, may KNOW as I feel SURE also, that what comes through to us from a Higher Source NEVER FAILS.”

R9. 7/7/38 Mrs. [480]‘s letter: “I saw Dr. Thompson yesterday - he says the [1527] boy is coming along nicely.”

R10. 9/14/44 GD’s note: The mother took the boy to the osteopath for 15 treatments, and then because the attacks still continued she stopped following the suggestions given in the readings. She was trying to heal him through Christian Science and never could understand why it was necessary to use material applications.

R11. 7/60 Dr. W. N. Pahnke in his breakdown of 96 cases of epilepsy from the Edgar Cayce readings classified Case [1527] in group 1, saying: “Some improvement was noted but there have been no follow-up reports since 1938.”
