This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 2nd day of November, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1724], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended and sponsored by Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [1724].
-
As we find, disturbances which arise have to do with the digestive and the assimilating system; also the effects produced upon the general system by these reactionary conditions - which first arose or were caused by the effects of intestinal flu.
-
These are the conditions then as we find them with this body, [1724].
-
The blood supply indicates the nature or character of disturbance through the manner in which it is affected; at times more than others, owing to the periods when the activities by the assimilating forces supply greater energies or vitality to the body.
-
At other periods there is a great deal of disturbance through the stomach, duodenum and throughout the intestinal system. And this at such times reduces the vitality and strength, as well as causing a great deal of anxiety and inconvenience to the body. It reduces the supply of the blood forces, as well as affects - of course - the nerve energies; and the anxieties through the mental forces also affect the nervous system.
-
Hence we have those reactions at such periods when rather a nervous condition is the result of the general disturbance.
-
In the functioning of the organs themselves, we find, as indicated, the condition may be termed the after effects of the flu, - or a deep, heavy cold wherein the mucous membranes and the lymph and emunctory circulations through the intestinal tract, and as affecting the organs of assimilation and digestion, all became involved.
-
Hence we find at times there is almost a closing of the portion of the duodenum through which there is the emptying into the jejunum.
-
All of these cause a great anxiety.
-
Also reflexes are produced, of course, upon all the activities of the system through the digestive forces. Hence ALL the organs of assimilation become involved at times, - as the activity of the liver, the spleen, the pancreas; as well as the eliminating forces and the excess condition for the activity of the kidneys, of course, in carrying off the disturbing forces.
-
These as we find are the disturbing conditions.
-
There has not been produced as yet a condition of the nature of lacerations or ulcerations in the pyloric end of the stomach itself, but there is more of a catarrhal and a thickening condition in the duodenum and the pylorus.
-
All of these, of course, are then disturbed by the cycle of reaction produced by excesses of acidity and the lack of the proper activity upon the chyle or the digestive forces, and a balance between the lacteals and the acid forces of the digestive force.
-
As we find, for bringing about the bettered conditions for the body:
-
First, precautions should be taken as to the diet, - that there is kept a well-balance in the acidity and the alkalinity of the body.
-
Whenever there is the feeling of fullness in the stomach after a meal, take Alcaroid as an aid to the digestive forces. Not too large a quantity, but a quarter teaspoonful or less, first dissolved in a small quantity of water and then a large quantity added, or the glass filled, and then a second glass of water taken afterward. This will tend to make for keeping of an alkalinity and a better balance through the bodily forces themselves. The fullness may occur often, or - with the use or application of these suggestions - it may get farther and farther apart, and should. But take the Alcaroid whenever there is the feeling of fullness.
-
Use Hydrotherapy as the means of eliminating the disturbance; that is, at least once a month have a good high colonic irrigation, with a THOROUGH workout after same, including the stimulation of all the centers along the spine. And especially at such treatments have an electrotherapy treatment also, that will make for the stimulation for the activities to the system especially across the stomach, the diaphragm and the centers in the cerebrospinal system from which the organs of assimilation and digestion receive their impulse. This had best be given where it is done by applying the hands upon the body, see, - under such as at Reilly’s.
-
Do these things and, being mindful and careful, we should eliminate these disturbances from the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What should the diet be? (A) As just indicated, keep a well-balanced diet. This will depend upon the ability of the body to assimilate, see? And whenever there is a great anxiety or stress, do not eat especially apples raw nor bananas nor fruits of that nature which are acid-producing, but rather use the easily assimilated foods. Not too much white bread, not too much of meats - and never fried foods.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/3/38 Letter from EC to [1724]: “Hope you find your reading interesting - and most of all helpful with the application of the suggestions - of course it speaks for itself - and you will possibly know better than any one whether it is speaking of you - just you and not just any one. But believe if you will have Hugh Lynn go over it with you he may help you interpret some of the phrasing of the information - also will be fine to have Dr. Reilly do the same he has seen enough of them to know what to do with them…”
R2. 11/6/38 Letter from [1724] to EC: “I am glad to report that your Health reading was remarkable, and agreed in every way with the diagnosis of my physician, Dr. Seymour S. Wanderman.
Only one point I can’t place - the flu. I had only one slight attack of flu - and this while I was in the service in 1918, which apparently did not effect my intestinal tract.
I intend to see Dr. Reilly some time this coming week as I need to follow through on the suggested treatments. I have suffered great pain for some weeks, as you reported, due to partial closing of pylorus valve under nervous tension. No doubt high colonics will help this condition and heat and osteopathic treatment.
I have such vital spiritual work ahead for me that I can’t afford to be slowed up physically. That’s why I so deeply appreciate your great service to me at this time.
Hugh Lynn is grand to work with and I am looking forward to a successful termination of our radio program project.
Many thanks again for your fine help. I am awaiting an opportunity to reciprocate for your great kindness…”
R3. 11/10/38 Letter to [1724] from EC: “Thanks for yours of the 6th - just hope you will get the results with the application of the suggestion - that is the proof of the whole matter.
Of course we think Hugh Lynn is pretty fine - thank you for your comment.
Hoping to have been of some small service…”

R5. 12/13/38 Phoned questions by Hugh Lynn Cayce; on [1724]‘s Reading. He hasn’t gotten very much relief:
- What effect does the hay fever condition have on the stomach condition, and what should be done for the hay fever?
- In other words, can anything be done for the sensitivity in the membranes that produces hay fever?
- When did cold causing original condition develop, as referred to in last reading?
- What specific type of treatment should be given at Reilly’s? Please give details.
- How much electrotherapy - what kind?
- Give a detailed diet. (He is having trouble with diet, also with type of treatment he is getting.)
- Any further advice?
