Born July 13, 1898, in Traverse City, Michigan. Time of Reading 3:40 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name; and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which may be submitted, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from present - ” - ‘39 - yes - beginnings of expansions to that as should lead to a great deal of money coming into the entity’s experience - ‘38, ‘37, ‘36 - lean years - ‘35, ‘34, ‘33 - many changes - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records of that entity now known as or called [1724].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records here, these are being chosen with the desire that the experience may be a helpful influence in the activities of the entity during this particular cycle of sojourn.

5. These influences we find as a combination between the astrological and the material sojourns, but irrespective of what the entity has done about same; these appear as personalities or individualities (or both) of the entity:

6. One that is well versed in many fields of endeavor or activity.

7. One that is rather idealistic in many ways and manners, and yet very material at times.

8. One that seeks rather the unusual, the out of the ordinary affairs or associations.

9. One that is well read, or inclined to be the bookworm; yet CAN be, when the occasion necessitates, very practical.

10. One whose abilities in musical activities are very pronounced, or in things pertaining to the artistic force; and may be applied at some experience or at some time in the experience of the entity in a very concrete, very definite manner.

11. One that would make rather a good application of self and self’s abilities as an analyst; whether as a physicist or psychologist or physician. For the entity will find himself seeking data and information in all of such fields.

12. One who will travel or have change in its environ and activity, or have those inclinations to do so; and in such travels would seek, does seek the unusual. And in or among a group, in any activity where there is the viewing or experiencing of a view of activities of others or of things, the entity would see or notice those UNUSUAL things about such a gathering, or such an activity, when others would not.

13. In the astrological aspects we find that these are not from the angle that they influence the entity because of the birth at such and such a position of the sun, moon, stars or planets, or even the zodiacal experience; but rather they are an influence, or the entity is influenced because of the environmental forces of same through those interims between the sojourns in the earth.

14. The sun is a great influence in the experience of the entity.

15. Hence the more the entity will find himself associated with those influences or forces that direct the activities or the policies of great undertakings, the better will be the environ for the entity, and greater may there be an expression of the abilities of the entity in all of its phases.

16. In Jupiter and Venus we find the benevolent as well as periods of a contrast in the experience of the entity.

17. For great disappointments have come or may come in associations and affiliations, in promises that have been made or may be made by others in whom the entity may have a great deal of confidence, or with whom he may have an influence, but owing to what would appear to be circumstance, disappointments may arise.

18. These, as will be seen from the astrological aspects, produce those influences as we will see derived from the manner in which the entity INNATELY within self meets such situations - from the material sojourns in the earth.

19. From the Uranian sojourn we find the extremes; one that is naturally aristocratic in its tendencies, yet very democratic in its manner of expression.

20. These extremes as we find are in the influence of the entity according to the temperament or the environment in which the activities or motivative forces have brought about or increased the activities or choices of the entity.

21. Hence for the entity, there may be given from these, this:

22. KNOW what is thy ideal! Not only from the material but from the mental and the spiritual. And let all that is chosen as thy ideal, of associations or activities, be spiritual in its concept.

23. These are the weakest influences in the entity’s endeavor or the entity’s activity in the material plane, as will be seen from its material sojourns.

24. As to the appearances in the earth, these we find quite varied, - as might be gathered from the general influence or aspects seen as being innate influences in the experience of the entity, considering both the material AND the astrological aspects.

25. Before this we find the entity was in the land close or nigh unto that of the present nativity, or birth; but during those periods when there were many changes in the activities of the peoples of the land; some given to trade, others to building up of the land, others to exchange between the various groups.

26. There we find the entity was rather in the position of one who would be called the barterer, or one given to trade between the natives of the land and the newcomers; delving into the mysteries.

27. And there is innately, as is experienced in the influence of the entity in the present, a feeling as respecting Indian lore, - that has an influence such that the entity becomes very much attuned to the elemental forces, - as of water, as of earth, as of air. And in attuning self to same the entity may gain much; as in its experiences as Amos Goff, during the periods preceding and after those disturbing factors in the days about old Dearborn.

28. There we find the entity gained those activities with the natives through the abilities to match wits, as it were, with the medicine men; AGAIN through the abilities to trade well with the new settlers, in aiding them.

29. The entity gained, the entity lost; gained in so far as the abilities were used in constructive experiences; lost when they were turned into self-indulgence, self-aggrandizement, and taking advantage of the weaknesses or the ignorance of others.

30. Yet we find the ability in the present to associate with the laymen as well as those in authority, or the aristocrat and the laboring man.

31. Before that we find the experience was in quite a varied activity; during those periods in the Roman land when there was the distribution of the activities, or when there was the gathering of many lines of activities through the early Caesars, - and especially in those periods covering the Palestine sojourn of the Master and the early portion of the same activities in the Alexandrian experience.

32. The entity was rather in the capacity of what would be termed now the recorder for those in the high authority; keeping the tab or the tabulation on the amounts, - not in the capacity of what would be called today a bookkeeper, but rather the supervisor of those who kept the amounts in weight of the various commodities that were sent into the lands, - as to the various taxes gathered from the lands, - as to the various sources and means of exchange.

33. There we find the entity was closely associated with those in authority UNDER the ruler of the day; where pomp and show were a part of the entity’s experience.

34. And through same the entity lost, yet there were the abilities to meet the influences through those things which befell the entity during the experience. For the entity was raised to authority by those who were in the capacity of the gatherers of data for the king or the emperor IN other lands.

35. The entity then became much acquainted with the influence in the Alexandrian land, and there we find the activities or interests were in the unusual, the mysteries, those things which delved into the abilities of individuals to use the unseen forces; or to work in what would be called by some MAGIC, by others those influences in which the elementals were used for activities upon the higher tension of the mental forces of individuals.

36. Again we find the entity slipped into those things in which self-indulgence and self-aggrandizement brought disappointing forces to the entity. And the entity was raised only by its associations with those in authority to the better activities during the experience.

37. The abilities then as a writer, the abilities as a musician, the abilities as a delver into the mysterious forces, arise in the present experience INNATELY and manifestedly according to the harkening within from those experiences through the Roman, the Palestine and the Alexandrian lands; in the name then of Zebuden.

38. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as or called the Egyptian, when there were those turmoils and strifes which arose with the banishment of the Priest.

39. In those experiences we find the entity acted in the capacities as the informant for the King, as well as the attempted informant to those in the banishment group. Thus we find the entity not playing the traitor to either, but rather as one who made for those developments for each IN the latter part of that sojourn, or when there was the return of the Priest for the greater activities in the mental and spiritual as well as the material things of the land.

40. The name then was Ip-kta. In the experience the entity gained, and throughout the sojourns we find the greater forces from that experience.

41. And as the contacts of the entity in the present bring those experiences in which the greater spiritual ideals are developed in the present, there may be brought to the entity through those periods opening for self in the present, in this cycle of activity, between the years of thirty-nine and forty-two (‘39 and ‘42), the greater abilities for expansions. For AFTER that there will be the waiting for other periods of development.

42. As to the abilities of the entity then, these, as we have indicated, are varied.

43. But crystalize those in the forms of giving of data, of expression to those in all walks of life; that there may be a union of purpose, a development of ideals and not merely ideas; and that the ideals must be founded in that which IS everlasting, which is only the spirit of truth!

44. Be true then to thyself and thou wilt not be false to any.

45. Ready for questions.

46. (Q) Through what medium should the entity work the most during the next few years?

(A) As just indicated, in the gathering and giving of data to those to create a union between those in high places and those in low; whether it is in books, in periodicals, in script, in scroll, or what - the UNION of purpose under an IDEAL!

Dear Mr. [1724] -

Hope you find your reading interesting - and are able to get as much out of it as so many others say they do from theirs - think Hugh Lynn will be able to help you a lot with and understanding of the terms and phraseology used, in same and hope after you have had him go over it with you, that you will let me know what you think of it all.

R2. 2/11/39 Mr. [1724]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I deeply appreciate this life reading you have given me - under what must have been more difficult circumstances than usual since I had to wire you that I was returning from Philadelphia and would arrive home about in the middle of the appointment. I had told Mr. [1151] of my reading date with you and he assured me I would be able to get back in time but I was compelled, by business, to miss the 1 o’clock train back and this made me late. You make no mention of this as a possible disturbing factor and it was fine of you to go ahead, regardless.

I am discovering that life readings require considerable study and introspection before they can be fairly evaluated. It will take me a little time to digest and correlate this one. But you have earmarked some most unusual experiences that I can see could have had a bearing on my present aspirations and conditions. Your impressions relating to my current life expression are most apt.

I suppose you know now that the Mysteries of the Mind program is being discontinued after the next two broadcasts. I am doing my best to make the last two programs outstanding and have introduced some features, in Hugh’s absence, under this emergency development, that I think he will approve of - since they are features we have long discussed but have not had the opportunity to put over. Seebach, in a frank talk, agreed to let us try such features at this late date - and I feel no basic sense of disappointment, knowing that a foundation has been laid which can be built upon for future commercial usage. We have been prevented, for want of proper financing by WOR, to bring guest stars into the program and to do telepathic tests of the nature desired. So, any criticism they might have of the absence of certain features in the program, must rest, to quite a degree, at their own door. I think, however, that we have gained much in breaking down resistance and setting the stage for better developments.

Thank you again for your own great services to me. I will do everything I can to further the radio interests here, even after this present sustaining program has gone off. While Hugh may feel disappointed on some angles, I think he should be reassured that this experience has been invaluable to him as it has to us all.

Dear Mr. [1724]:

Thanks for yours of the 11th - glad you found the Life Reading interesting. No there is a difference in getting the Life and the physical reading - had yours been a physical could not have gotten it under the circumstances - but the Life, we ask people to keep same, because it usually means much more for them to put out a bit of thought for same, keeps them in attune with what is being given even tho they may be moving about at the time.

Yes you will have to have Hugh Lynn read your reading with you as suggested - the wording of those readings is a bit peculiar, but after one get the hang of it, they get what is being tried to be said. That is why one finds something new most every time they read their reading. Am sure Mr. [1151] will be interested also in reading same.

Yes - your wire to Hugh Lynn about Programme was sent to me. He left last night, guess you have seen him before this. Think he has with your help done some good work - work that will help the cause generally, and hope it has aroused enough interest to call for further research over the Radio some where - whether H. L. has the programme or not. But hope some will buy the programme, so as to give all of you more leeway.

Am glad to try and serve Mr. [1724] - know of myself can do nothing, but if there is sincerity in the seeker, then lots of help may come, it is to me a matter of how sincere - all parties to the experience are as to how much good may come. HIS promises are always to the faithful - and faith - primarily is sincerity.

Dear Hugh:

I appreciated your nice note of April 3rd and looked forward to seeing you since you since you said you would advise me later of your exact dates of stay in New York…but I was not informed.

Were your plans changed? I have not heard from Mr. Harrison in several months and presume you must have been here but perhaps too busy to call.

I am leaving today for Hollywood where I am to do the screen play on the life of […].

Isn’t it too bad we did not sell the MYSTERIES OF THE MIND program when Hereward Carrington has gone over with his cheap imitation of it in “Who Knows?” I don’t think WOR treated you fairly in this matter for this program idea was a definite LIFT of your own - following to quite a degree the pattern we established.

I am delighted to learn that you are off to Hollywood again to work on the screen play dealing with the life of […]. I will certainly look forward to see the picture.

I have become pretty much involved in our Local Defense Program, concerning the recreation for the two near by camps. I was in New York only for the day of the meeting, left the next morning. I had hoped to see you for a minute or two at the lecture.

Let’s keep in touch with one another, for I believe that there may be some day an opportunity for the development of the connection which was thwarted by the WOR tie up.

R7. 1/24/50 HLC’s letter to Mr. [1724]:

Mr. [1724] New York City

Dear [1724]

Thank you for your Christmas note. [See Par. R6 above.]

The opening of your second paragraph intrigues me, “We may not see eye to eye, philosophically, in some particulars.” I can’t imagine that we have any serious differences of opinion. It is simply a matter of parallel paths which cross now and then. We do not have the time to tell each other about all the things we have done and for some while the paths have been separated. As you know, I do have a very high regard for you as an individual and a thorough going respect for your abilities in many directions. Let me join the realm of sooth sayers to predict that we have not seen the last of each other. Any number of prospects, such as a national magazine devoted to a comprehensive treatment of the related fields of psychical research, occultism, spiritualism, metaphysics and christian mysticism, or a motion picture on the life of Edgar Cayce, or the development of a metaphysical school at Virginia Beach, or, etc., etc., etc. Maybe just a plain simple meeting somewhere in the South-West when I come west for our Annual Western Conference in Los Angeles, March 30, 31 and April 1, 2, would at least bring us up-to-date.

R8. 2/27/52 Mr. [1724]‘s letter to HLC:

As you know, Hugh, I have a high regard for you personally and your sincerity. My studies of the subject of reincarnation do not enable me to reach the same conclusions arrived at in “Many Mansions”, however, and I frankly think you are in danger of deifying or sanctifying your father and his work too much unless you are careful, to the detriment of his psychic contribution. Some of the tributes are even embarrassing reading to the outside observer. I hope you will accept these comments in the kindly spirit they are made. If you wish fair analysis of your father’s work, it must stand critical evaluation and every statement attributed to him cannot be accepted as correct just because it came through in the manner described. Any deep student of the Subconscious realizes its many diverse manifestations.

You will recall that your father’s health reading for me, prescribed an electrical treatment by Dr. Reilly which brought about a hemorrhage, from which I almost died. I did not blame your father at the time; I blamed myself for having blindly followed the reading, without double-checking. But you will remember, I am sure, my telling you what happened, at the time, and your asking that a follow-up reading be given - which reading, as I recall, advised that no further electrical treatments were necessary.

It could be dangerous for people to attempt to apply treatments prescribed for others, now classified as pertaining to different illnesses such as Epilepsy. The general public naturally learns only of the cases that worked out successfully.

I hope, as your research continues, it will evaluate the debit side as well as the credit side. You are so close to this development, it must be difficult for you to maintain an impersonal, impartial point of view.

I trust you will think none the less of me for writing as I have. I take it that we each are striving to gain as much dependable knowledge about the higher powers of mind as is possible, to the end that this knowledge may be of increasing service to ourselves and those with whom we may be associated. Dear [1724]

Thank you so much for writing me as you did in your letter of February 27th. Your frank comments are greatly appreciated.

In carefully going over your readings and correspondence, I find a great deal of material of considerable interest. Both the second and third readings [1724-2 and 1724-3] warned that the electrical treatment should not be given at such great strength. In my opinion, the difficulty here lay not in the type of treatment suggested but in the way in which it was administered. Of course this is a natural point of view for me to take and it is possible that I may be wrong about it.

You may rest assured that it is not in my heart or mind to attempt a deification or a building of any cult attitude around the memory of Edgar Cayce. We are concerned with a testing of the information which he gave and a presentation of that which has been found helpful. Warnings from a friend like you help me, I am sure, to keep a better focus on this whole matter.

I do hope that our paths cross so that there will be an opportunity for a good, long conversation about these and other matters of mutual interest now.

R10. 3/17/52 Mr. [1724]‘s letter to HLC:

For the records - referring to my own health readings and your kindness in arranging them with your father - it would be difficult to consider them evidential because you knew of my condition, working with me as you were at the time. That is why you volunteered to extend the readings in the expressed hope they would be helpful…and I acquiesced, feeling that this would give me opportunity for a personal experience as a test. I faithfully followed the first reading [1724-1], having been told it must be followed or results could not be assured. Reilly had received a copy of the reading and gave the electrical treatment which brought on the hemorrhages I suffered. When I reported this to you - you suggested additional readings to determine what should be done - and naturally these readings, as you state, recommended that the electrical treatments not be given in such strength. But the damage had already been done. You give as your opinion that the difficulty lay not in the type of treatment but in the way it was administered. However - had not such a treatment been suggested by the reading, it wouldn’t have been given at all and I would have been spared this unfortunate happening. I held my own self most responsible, at the time, for having gotten into this difficulty, in all good faith - so I offered no censure.

I am not contending against you, Hugh, but these are facts you well know:

1. The high suggestibility of a human who is reaching out for physical and mental help.

2. The tremendous power of FAITH to activate the healing power in body and mind.

Most men and women, taking your father’s health readings were so conditioned. They felt emotionally a great need…a deep yearning to be healed…they had faith that his readings could heal them.

My uncle, Dr. […] was one of the pioneer physicians of Indiana. I have sat in his office and seen him work miracles with vari-colored sugar-coated pills which contained no medicinal qualities. But, before giving them to his patients, he would describe exactly what these pills were designed to do in bringing about a cure. The patients wanted to get well - they had absolute faith in Dr. […] and in most cases, they were cured. Dr. […] was years ahead of his time - in his realization of the healing powers of Nature

• of God.

Insofar as I have been able to study your father’s work - through the books and literature written about him and such little personal contact and personal experience as I have had

• in most cases I truly believe it mattered little what he prescribed, so long as the patient BELIEVED his treatments would work. In this respect your father was then an unique FAITH healer. IF benefits are being derived from assembled prescriptions, treatments, etc. then the same FAITH principle is operating, in my opinion. I think if you will study these aspects impersonally, you may fix a different evaluation upon the work.
