GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1745], - this we have had before.
-
As we find, there are considerable changes in the general physical forces of the body, as well as in the specific disturbances. While there have been some improvements in some directions, and in others conditions have altered, we do not find that there may be considered to be great improvements.
-
These are the conditions as we find them in the present:
-
Where there has been indicated the ulceration or laceration in the pyloric portion of the stomach, - while this shows some healing, it is now involving more the portion of the duodenum that empties into the jejunum, than the pylorus or pyloric portion itself. Hence it involves more of an activity in portions of the liver, about the gall duct area; thus causing a disturbance that at times becomes very aggravating, - as well as causing pain, inconvenience, and those distresses to other portions of the body.
-
The administrations that were made osteopathically were partially in keeping with those suggestions given. There should have been a closer adherence to the type of manipulation with the body lying prone, on either side of the spinal system, in the areas of the 6th and 7th dorsal.
-
In the present we would make this type of administration:
-
For one hour each evening for three consecutive days each week we would apply the Castor Oil Packs. Use three thicknesses of heavy flannel dipped in the hot oil and wrung out, not just the oil poured on. Place the electric pad over same, - after it is well heated, it may be turned to low heat but keep in on for the full hour - over the whole liver and gall duct area, on the right side of the body, from the rib to the hip, and from the navel to the back.
-
On the third evening, following the last Pack, take internally two tablespoonsful of Olive Oil.
-
The next day after taking the Olive Oil, have a thorough RELAXING, osteopathic adjustment; with special reference to aiding the area indicated; not a draining osteopathically, at first, - not until at least six to eight or ten treatments are given and there is a great deal of relief from the soreness in the pyloric portion of the stomach itself. And then gradually drain the gall duct area, osteopathically, which should then be done twice or three times a week - when attempted. But do not do this until the pains have subsided, and this would be after five to six weeks, see? Then the treatments would be given twice or three times a week. But this drainage should be done very gently, not attempting to do too much at one time.
-
Hence there would only be one treatment a week in the beginning, you see, - the thorough, relaxing treatment, and this on the day following the series of the Packs and the taking of the Olive Oil.
-
And as we find, McBride would be the better to give these.
-
Once each week, the evening of the day that the osteopathic treatment is given, until there is the period for the draining, we would use the low electrical vibrations as may be had from a B-Battery, - taken by hand. Prepare the small B-Battery with two connections, one with the copper pole - and to the positive side; the other with the nickel rod or pole to the negative side. Put the negative end upon a piece of glass and set the foot upon it, and take the copper plate in the opposite hand. Alternate these each time this is used, for three minutes, - only being taken once a week following the series of Packs, the Olive Oil, and the osteopathic treatment. One time the copper pole or plate would be held in the right hand, while the foot would be set upon the nickel pole - the left foot, you see. The next time the copper anode would be held in the left hand, while the right foot would be set upon the nickel pole or anode. Always have the same pole to the feet, and the same to the hands, - that is, the nickel to the feet and the copper to the hands, see? but alternate in the manner indicated.
-
As to the diet, - here we would follow that as has been best indicated, though we would make some minor changes. Take plenty of citrus fruit juices three to four mornings each week. On the other mornings (when the fruit juices are not taken) have either rice cakes or cereals, - whole wheat, buckwheat, or cut oats - these well cooked, taken with whole milk rather than cream alone.
-
Noons - have plenty of vegetables - especially, raw, green vegetables.
-
Evenings - cooked vegetables, especially those of the leafy nature. Of those that grow under the ground, only carrots, parsnips, oyster plant or the like; not so much of the bulbular vegetables, and none of these dried, as beans or peas - though these may be taken if they are fresh.
-
No raw apples, of course. Other fruits, and cooked apples, may be - or should be - a part of the diet.
-
These as we find offer the corrective measures in the present conditions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Does the intense pain in left side near ninth rib indicate gastric ulcer. (A) Indicates rather, as indicated, a swelling in the duodenum; and produces pressure to the left side, though the source is more in the center and the right side.
-
(Q) I am being treated by Dr. Lamar, a chiropractor, for spastic colon. Would you advise discontinuing these treatments? (A) Discontinue these.
When there has been the second series of the Castor Oil Packs and the Olive Oil, it would be well to have a good hydrotherapist give a thorough, but gentle, colon cleansing; this possibly a week or two weeks apart. In the first waters, use salt and soda, in the proportions of a heaping teaspoonful of table salt and a level teaspoonful of baking soda dissolved thoroughly to each half gallon of water. In the last water use Glyco-Thymoline as an intestinal antiseptic to purify the system, in the proportions of a tablespoonful to the quart of water.
-
(Q) Any further instructions for me at this time? (A) Do these at the present time, and we should find real relief for this body.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 5/19/41 EC’s letter to [1745]:
Dear Mr. [1745]:
Sorry you have not been getting along so well, but do hope the present suggestions will help, would gather from the information some conditions are better, but the real trouble hasn’t been removed as yet. Will be anxious to hear from you from time to time, and if you are not really feeling a lot better soon - would like to see what goes on, think can sympathize with you, for have been having something of a similar trouble only mine is more from the gall duct, but am feeling much better, and hope to handle the situation without an operation. So can have a fellow feeling for you. Just hoping to have been of a service.
And with all good wishes - know you all were glad to see Mrs. [1100], should she still be there please remember us to her.
With all good wishes

R2. 5/24/41 Mrs. [1100]‘s letter: ”…My brother received his reading and I believe it is going to ‘do the trick’ as he had been suffering quite a bit. He appreciated greatly your taking it on Sunday, realizing it was your day of rest. I helped him to get started with the castor Oil Packs and believe he will follow it in detail. After his other reading in 1938, the doctor talked him into continuing his treatment for an indefinite period and with no one to encourage him into getting a check reading, he did so thinking of course, he was doing the right thing. He took me to the train Wed. night and said ‘You know I hope it isn’t wishful thinking but I believe I feel better after taking just one of the Castor Oil packs…’ I also advised him to get a check reading after all suggestions had been carried out.”
R3. 5/25/41 [1745]‘s letter to EC:
…, Texas
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Received your letter of the 19th and sure do appreciate your personal interest in me and my condition. You can imagine my interest in you when I have a sister (Mrs. [1100]) who is so devoted to you and your work. She spent ten days with us, leaving for B’ham last Wednesday night. My sister was here when the reading came and helped me to get started on the treatment. I am well pleased with the results of the first course, having had some relief from the very first application of hot castor oil.
I want to take this means of thanking you, Mrs. Cayce, and Miss Davis for giving up your rest or recreation period to make this reading on Sunday. I want you to FEEL that I appreciate it ‘tho I haven’t the words sufficient to express my appreciation.
Dr. McBride was very much touched and felt very deeply the personal mention of his name in the reading and was amazed at the correctness of the information given in the reading, but was unable to understand just how this information was received on me at so great a distance.
He is in a terribly nervous condition due to a very bad automobile accident two years ago which resulted in the death of his wife and a very long confinement to the hospital of himself.
He is so deeply impressed by your reading that I think a or some literature on the association and your power and how it functions would be well placed if sent to him - it would possibly be an aid to me in making contacts with people who were greatly in need of your services. So I am enclosing $5.00 to help pay for mailing, etc. of same. I feel that I will not be presumptuous in doing this, and that you will fully understand my motive.
With all good wishes for peace for you and yours, I am
Very truly yours, [1745]

Dr. Julius McBride Osteopath Taylor 1850 1710 Yale Street Houston, Texas
Mr. Edgar Cayce Crescent Circle Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce
Mr. [1745] and I thought it would be proper for me to write and tell you of the rather great objective improvement which I am able to discern in him since he has begun to follow the regime which you outlined for him. The spasticity which used to have over his splanchic area in his back and the tissue over his right hypochondrium is so much improved that I can hardly understand the improvement.
Sincerely [signed] Julius McBride
R5. 6/24/41 EC’s letter to Dr. McBride:

R6. 7/13/41 [1745]‘s letter to EC:
Sunday …, Texas
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I really don’t know just what to say in regards my condition. In the beginning I had some relief from the pain in my left side DUE TO PRESSURE. Now this pain comes back just as bad, and when I do get some relief in this area, my sacroiliac region and in the lower or scrotum area the pain or distressing feeling is very intense.
Dr. McBride is very well pleased with what he calls OBJECTIVE results as far as his relaxing manipulations are concerned but the subjective doesn’t seem to back up this feeling on his part.
So please take a “check reading” on me and find out why the improvement in the beginning did not continue - and what further treatment is necessary.
As to the diet, please try to have a specific menu for morning noon and night come through.
I will be off Wednesday P.M. 7/16/41 and will be home all afternoon, and will make arrangements to have reading between 3 and 4 o’clock time if this will suit you just proceed with reading at this time without any further notice to me of the time, if not we will have to make it Sunday 7/20/41.
With best wishes for you and yours, I am
Very truly yours [1745]
