This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of July, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [1745], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Beatrice and Richmond Seay, Annie Cayce, Sarah and Lu Hesson.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Texas.

GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [1745].
-
As we find, there apparently has come some more serious disturbance since we last had the body here; that is, the pain through the abdominal area; and the pressure upon the circulation between the liver, the heart and the lungs has given more trouble.
-
There has not been sufficient setting up of drainages from those conditions existent in the liver area. This should be done by the osteopathic manipulations; not in the manner as of irritating - but GENTLY empty the gall duct, WITH the general treatments that have been indicated.
-
Keep the Packs as indicated.
-
Do not make those attempts for drainage too often, but give type of treatment at least once each week until the gall duct is entirely drained.
-
This done, as we find, will make for the bettered conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why did not the improvement continue as in the beginning? (A) As just indicated, there is a clogging - and it causes interference. This is why the feeling of irritation through the lungs and the heart area, see? For there are not irritations other than the fullness and the lack of the eliminations carried in the impulse activity of the circulation. That’s why and how all of these should be eliminated.
-
(Q) What causes the severe headaches and cough? (A) The cough is caused by the pressures upon the bronchi, by this backing up of impulse. The headaches arise from the congestion in the liver.
Do these things as we have indicated.
- (Q) Please give specific sample menu for morning, noon and night. (A) The diet as we find should be followed rather closely with the character of the osteopathic manipulations given. But this might be a sample menu, though these should not be the only things taken - merely of these natures:
Mornings - citrus fruit juices and coddled egg, but none of the white, with whole wheat toast and a cereal drink; or corn cakes and honey; or fruit with cereal.
Noons - for this body - especially vegetable juices, as may be combined from celery, lettuce, carrots and the like - these raw most of the time, to be sure; or cooked vegetable juices, but not with fat meats in same; or kraut juice or the like. This should be most of that taken in the noon meal.
Evenings - vegetables cooked in their OWN juices, as in Patapar Paper; occasionally fish, fowl or lamb, but never fried foods.
These would be as a sample. This does not mean that sweets would be taken from the body entirely, but let these be rather the natural sweets, - honey or fruit sweets, or the like.
- We are through with this reading.

R1. 7/29/41 Mrs. [1100]‘s letter: ”…Thank you for the copy of my brother’s reading. Sorry of his back-set and believe from the reading that Dr. McBride has been a bit rough with him. He (my brother) has just lost his job - out of a clear sky. There isn’t a more honest conscientious fellow than he and he wouldn’t harm a soul. He was manager of a market and been there for years, although thoroughly disliking the work. It seems that someone misrepresented the facts and their word was taken against my brother’s and of course he is hurt and stunned. However it may be the break he has always wanted to get into something more desirable…”
R2. 8/14/41 [1745]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have not been reporting very promptly on my case. I did not know what to say or how to say just what I thought. I lost my job since the last reading; a job which I held for nine years - I am still dazed from the shock - don’t know just when I can or will be able to secure another.
I am following the readings as close by as possible, but the tightness and pain in my left side continues - at times, when I can feel gas going thru pyloric valve in large hushes - I soon have some relief - but the pain soon returns; not as severe now as it has been. In discussing the reading of 11-13-1938 yesterday with Dr. McBride, in regards the obstruction in my right nostril, he took me to a nose specialist just a few blocks from his office and had this doctor to examine my nose and determine its status in relation to the pain in my stomach. After shoving some kind of a scope with a light on it, up in my nostrils he claimed that I did not have any adenoids, and this obstruction was caused by the bone separating the nasal passages having a BEND in it - The depression part of the bend was in my left nostril or nasal passage which caused a protrusion in my right nasal passage, causing same to become blocked. This condition was causing a drip back in my throat, which keeps it irritated, and the swallowing of this poison was keeping my stomach in an irritated condition - He wanted to remove this bone in my nose - claiming that my trouble would disappear in a short time.
I am not doing anything but what you tell me to do. So please go over the three readings and advise me if there is anything I should do regarding the first reading that is not outlined in the last reading. I am not asking for a check-up at this time; only advice.
With kindest regards to you, Mrs. Cayce, and Miss Davis, I am
Very truly yours [1745]
R3. 8/18/41 EC’s letter to [1745]:
Dear Mr. [1745]
Thanks for yours of the 14th - am sorry indeed to hear you are having mental worries also as well as the physical. For am sure that does not help the physical condition - in talking with Mrs. [1100] some days ago on phone she told me you had been let out, lets just hope Mr. [1100] this will give you the opportunity to get into the work for which you are really fitted - would suggest you read over your life reading and see if you do not find some helpful suggestions there. Now as to the physical conditions would suggest that every few days that you take those oil packs. Follow same with the oil - then afterward the next day take a teaspoon full of Milk of Bismuth with ten drops essence of lactated pepsin in same. Of course this in full glass of water.
For the trouble in nasal passages - have this fixed for you
- add the ingredients in order named. [Inhalant as in his first Physical, 1745-2?] Sending this in slip - possibly your Dr. can get the Alcohol for you. And you can get other ingredients and add them yourself - is better if you can have this put in a bottle with two vents in the cork - like glass tubes - neither touching the solution - but keep corked when not in use. Shake solution together - and inhale in the nostrils the fumes from this not the solution itself - have say a 6 or 8 oz bottle with wide mouth fixed. Am sure can get this there.
Try this out and if you are not feeling better soon please let me know and will check up and see what is wrong.
Thanks again - and with all good wishes [signed] Edgar Cayce
R4. 8/20/41 Mrs. [1100]‘s letter to EC: ”…Sorry that my brother isn’t doing so well and am sure that the mental strain and worry at present are doing considerable damage, although I haven’t heard from him in a little while…”
R5. 8/21/41 [1745]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:
Your letter of instructions came yesterday and as I had just finished a course of the hot castor oil packs Tuesday night, took the olive oil, then yesterday had the osteopathic treatment during the day, I took a dose of the Milk of Bismuth with the ten drops of Lactated Pepsin - I have the inhalant going fine - Now I seek a little more instructions in regards the procedure.
My procedure heretofore has been: Hot oil packs Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights for one hour, followed by two tablespoons of Olive oil Tuesday night. Sometime during the day on Wednesday I had the osteopathic treatment - Then there was nothing to do (except diet) until Sunday night which started the procedure over again -
Now your letter of the 18th states: “Every FEW DAYS take those hot oil packs, follow same with olive oil, then next day take a dose of Bismuth and Lactated pepsin”; now, you did not mention osteopathic treatment. Do I leave that off for the time being or continue with same - and:
“Every few days take hot oil packs and etc”; does this mean that I continue with a course of three oil packs more than once a week? or can I take oil packs Mon, Tues, Wed, then skip - say 2 days and start over again. I am trying to get more than ONE dose of Milk of Bismuth and Pepsin in me in one week.
Please excuse my lack of understanding. I am so anxious to get well, that I wish to do things just right.
Now as to going over my life reading 1745-1. The conditions under which I worked restricted my acquaintances to people in the retail meat business - I am a member of the Meat Cutters Local Union here which can place me in extra and soon into full time work - Due to my condition I am afraid that I cannot do SATISFACTORY work as required by market owners so I have asked our representative to hold off until my pain has subsided to such an extent that I can put in a full days work without noticeable (to others) discomfort - I have searched the reading but would not know how or to whom to apply for a change in employment or endeavor that would bring in immediate returns. Perhaps you might make some suggestion? Would appreciate any possible help along this line.
Sure do appreciate having a sister and brother-in-law like [1100] and [470] - They are a wonderful couple. Their interest touches me very deeply. With kindest regards to you and the members of your office force, I am
Gratefully yours [1745]
R6. 8/25/41 EC’s letter to [1745]:
Dear Mr. [1745]
Thanks for yours of the 21st - am expecting [1100] and [470] up this weekend, will go over all your readings with [1100] and try and write you again soon after. But do hope you are feeling a whole lot better. Think can appreciate your trouble better than most people from a personal stand point for since an operation for appendicitis in 1914 have had a good bit of trouble with the Gall duct, and suffer now and then just the way you describe your pains and the way the information sounds might be for myself.
Now lets see if can help in suggestions. If you keep the 3 days each week for the packs that should alright, and the Osteopath on the 4th day that is all OK also, does the Dr. give you much treatment with you lying on your face near the middle of your back, think he should.
No the 3 days each week should be enough - but if necessary to take the Bismuth each day until beginning the packs again on Sunday why do so - think you will find the Bismuth will get rid of the gas and pain - take a good colon douche now and then say twice each month anyway - tho I oft have to take them every day for a week or more to keep down gas, use colon tube on a fountain syringe and you can take it yourself if careful - use in the lukewarm water - or body temperature water teaspoonful of table salt well dissolved and half teaspoonful of soda, to each quart of water used.
Do hope you will be feeling equal to get located as you would like to be, think you are quite right not rushing into something before you feel up to the job, just don’t get panicky about yourself from any angle. The inhalant should help that gas a bit also - am sure a lot of the mucus that helps cause the gas - that causes the pain come from the membranes of the nasal passage and throat and the inhalant will help.
Yes - will write again after see [1100] and [470] - we think as much of them as were they our own brother and sister - they don’t make them better.
I am purposely not making any suggestions regards the life reading and suggestions, until after talk with [1100], think that will be best, for two heads are better than one any old time.
Do hope you are feeling better - know we are interested and wish to have you well and happy. Please let us hear from you.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R7. 2/2/41 EC’s letter to [1745]:
Dear Mr. [1745]
As suggested to you in my last - that would talk over your reading with Mrs. [1100] when she was here, we had the honor to have them with us over the weekend, yesterday - no today [1100] and I went over your life reading to see if we might offer some suggestion that would be of help just now. In paragraph 9 page two of your Life Reading [1745-1, Par. 18] believe you would find the answer right now. Evidently you could as an organizer of your union - or what ever it may be called in your own and surrounding town make good in a way that would be worthwhile, not as an actor - but as an interpreter of lines - positions - conditions and make good at such, think it over and see if you haven’t something there worth thinking of seriously - and something you could do NOW.
Mr. [470] Mrs. [1100] are fine - they left here this afternoon for Bg’hm. Both are looking fine.
With all good wishes
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R8. 9/17/41 [1745]‘s letter to EC:
…, Texas
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your letter of the 2nd inst. for which I am very grateful - I have given your suggestions very serious thought
- I am now 48 1/2 years of age and it will not be long until the insurance companies will frown on my application for work as a retail meat cutter. My brother is traveling auditor and organizer for the A.F. of L., so I am posting a letter to Mr. Dennis Lane, Sec’y & Treas. of American Federation of Labor - (A.M.C. & B.W. of North American A.F.L.) applying for a similar job - Oh yes 160 N Lasalle St. Chicago - Ill.
Any concentration of thought or prayer regarding the acceptance of my services will be greatly appreciated.
[1100] tells me that she and [470] have bought a house and a small farm near Virginia Beach - They say that this is an investment, but I am wondering - wondering if this gesture is not a desire for a home - After living in hotels & apartments as long as they have, it would be mighty nice to settle down in a home there at the Beach. Of course I would like them nearer me, but we cannot have all the good things in life.
As to my condition - I have fair days and bad days, when it (my left side) is not hurting there is still a heavy feeling there - as if caused by a lump or a sever pulling - But I do get SOME relief at times. Dr. McBride has DISCOVERED a condition in my back that he says requires a deeper treatment than a relaxing treatment, and has given this has attention for the past two treatments.
Hoping that I may get well and get my job also soon, and wishing you and yours all the happiness possible, I am
Very truly yours [1745]
R9. 9/22/41 EC’s letter to [1745]:
Dear Mr. [1745]
Thanks for yours of the 17th - am glad you have given the suggestions some thought - as told you would talk it over with Mrs. [1100] and no doubt she told you we did, and believe she was in accord with me in the suggestions, and just hope all works out to the very best for you and yours. Your connections should be valuable to you in doing this and in making the proper contact. Keep right at it and don’t take no for an answer.
Yes - naturally we are very happy that [1100] and [470] have bought here, think they have a most excellent investment here, and then the very idea that they may call here home is fine even tho they may live else where for a time. Have you ever been in this country, wish you might make us a visit think you would like it also.
Suspect they have gotten tired of Hotels and Apartments, and this is not a bad section of the country can tell you - we have found some very lovely people and friends here.
Do hope you keep on the improve - your condition is such that you will have good and bad days and will have to keep doing something about it but believe you have the right track and only need to keep going.
Let us hear again and with all good wishes.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
