GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions which have been submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: (In going back over years from present - ” - ‘37 - periods through which great stress has been upon this entity - a period of trial - More about this - ‘30 - more anxieties, and yet more stable - ‘27 - periods of indulgence too much - 1900 - expectancy - ” etc., on back to birth date.)
-
Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1793].
-
In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these are chosen from among the many, - that the experience may be one of a hopeful, helpful nature through the remaining period of this sojourn.
-
As may be indicated from the astrological aspects for the entity, the greater disturbance or distresses or the mental anxieties should be passed - with periods after the twenty-first (21st) of June this year.
-
The assurance of the spiritual life, or of helpful forces, should within this year, as well as in those years to come, be the strength from which more real joy and happiness may come than through all of the years of affluence through which the entity has passed, - some good, some bad. Yet, the purposes for which a soul enters the material experience are not for the glory of self, nor for indulgence in those things to gratify either the mental or even the physical appetites of the individual; but that there may be an appreciation shown in the manner of dealing with, in the manner of relationships with the fellow man - that ye may be made as one that shows the love of truth, of justice, of hope, of good in the experience, that ye may be made as one that shows forth in thy activities the purposes for which life is given, even with all of its ramifications, - that ye may apply self in relationships to bring hope to others.
-
In giving the astrological aspects, these as ye find are not judged according to the many who have made a study of such, - but rather from the aspects of the sojourn in the environments that make for urges latent and manifested in the present experience.
-
Yet, know, there is no urge, no influence that will override the will of the entity. Hence the purposes, the DESIRES OF THE heart, the emotions must be prompted by influences that are creative in their nature, - that are eternal in their aspect, - IF peace, harmony and understanding would be thy experience in this material sojourn.
-
Jupiter, as with Saturn, as with Venus, as with Uranus are a part of the experience, - yes; but these depend upon the application of self as RESPECTING the relationships with others. They produce that urge, to be sure; just as the study of any phase of man’s experience or man’s relationship produces a desire within the mental-physical body to be active in that direction.
-
Just as in Jupiter, - we find not only high ennobling influences but the inclinations to deal in, to be related to, to be active in those activities in which great numbers of peoples or masses are involved. And these arise, as has been indicated, in such measures that if there are the activities of such natures in these relationships it should bring - after this period of change - much more harmony, much more security in all of its phases of human experience.
-
As in Saturn, many changes have been brought; yet these become rather of a benevolent or beneficent nature during the latter portion of the present year, as well as the coming periods in the experience of this entity:
-
In Uranus we find the extremes. As we find, the entity becomes extreme in many directions; yet thinks of self and classes self as one very stable, - yet INNATELY is either very, very severe or very active, or very quiet. Hence the entity innately is an extremist.
-
From Venus we find the love of the beautiful of EVERY NATURE.
-
As we will find, the appearances in the earth have been quite varied, but producing very definite urges in the emotional self, in the emotional body. Yet these must be tempered with mercy, judgement, love, patience, kindness, if there would be those things in the experience that would bring any peace or joy or happiness.
-
For these are not attained in that of self-indulgence, or self-aggrandizement, but rather in that “He that would be the greatest is the servant of the most - and as ye do it to the least, so do ye to thy Maker.”
-
The appearances, then - these are merely chosen for their influence through the present experience. There are others, but these affect the entity because of its application thus far in this present experience.
-
Before this we find the entity was in the land of the present nativity or birth, during those periods when there was much of trading and much of activity in those things pertaining to what would be termed the foundation of the industrial forces of a land or a country.
-
Thus we find in the present that those directions in trading in the products of the soil and the industrial activities of the land become those factors in which the entity may become the greater or the more efficient, - much more than in stocks or bonds that are of other influences or natures, or pertaining to banking or the like. Hence in the affluence that has to do with the products of the soil and the industrial influences having to do with the carrying on of same may the greater abilities be shown, the greater judgements be shown, - because of the entity’s activities through that sojourn, in the name Caleb Watson.
-
In that experience the entity gained and the entity lost, just as the entity may in the present experience - in the application of those things wherein there is more of self than of the universal activity in the relationships to others - bring the discouragements that make for the creating of hates and animosities, and the blaming of conditions upon others.
-
Study first to show thyself approved unto thy Maker. Know as to what is thy ideal, and ye will soon find that the faults ye find in others are those that are the shortcomings in thine own self in the reverse.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Roman land, during those periods when there were the greater settlements in the English land.
-
There we find the entity was among those who were put in authority in that portion of the land during those early experiences - and the entity acted in the capacity of one to judge the abilities of a people in a land to supply certain material necessities to the land or people that prompted the activity.
-
Again we find those experiences that would tend to lead the entity to be the better judge of commodities that are of the nature of products of the soil, - as in grains or those things of the nature in which there are the products of the soil for consumption by man in his relationships and dealings one with another.
-
The entity was a soldier, yet an economist in that experience, - and yet a judge between the abilities of individuals. The entity gained, the entity lost through the experience, - as one Timotu.
-
In the present from same, - judge not too harshly thyself nor others - remembering, it is with the measure ye mete to others that it is measured to thee again.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during that period of the turmoils and strifes.
-
The entity was among those who sided with the Priest who was sent into exile, and was active in the land of exile in making it more possible for those of that land to become better acquainted with the purposes and ideals of the group so banished.
-
There we find the entity gained a very great deal, in the name Testumi (one word). The entity was active in distributing the purposes, aims, desires, - which it may do in the present, in such a way that they may be made material factors in the lives of individuals as they deal with or are associated with one another.
-
In the present from that sojourn, as has been indicated, there should begin to be a period of joy, of satisfaction, with more social and economic security; but these must be founded upon principles of the Creative Forces, - creative activity as of love, patience, hope, longsuffering, brotherly love, kindness - APPLIED consistently, persistently in the dealings and in the relationships one with and one to another.
-
Keep, then, to that same hope and faith, that ye expect others to have in thee, in thy fellow man; looking to Him who is the author and the finisher of faith. For, know that Jesus - as the Christ - is the power of God unto salvation to ALL that believe and trust in Him.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What work on earth may I best perform? (A) As has been indicated, in the judging of those commodities or products of the soil, or the industrials that deal with same, IN the buying or selling for individuals or for self or for others.
-
(Q) Would I be best advised to remain with my work in Wall Street as a stock broker? (A) In the present, yes.
-
(Q) How does the transit of the planet Jupiter into my Sun sign, Aries, affect me personally? (A) As indicated, - and as to the time and the effect. But the application must be in Creative Forces and not for self-indulgences or self-glorification.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 5/29/39 [1793]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce;-
Your hope that the information in my life reading prove interesting is more than fulfilled. How helpful it will be will depend on myself. I am amused and concerned about some of the things you said of me - amused at my own conceit and concerned that I am not the “fine fellow” I had deluded myself into thinking. In particular, I had not thought I was an extremist, yet now that it is so convincingly “shoved down my throat” I can see very clearly that it is so - worse luck. Well that is something to get to work on. It is far from an admirable quality.
Things with me are yes and no. There can be no doubt that already my anxieties have lifted. I was anxious about my son and his material outlook. This appears to have been taken care of and he has now an exceptionally good opportunity in a given line of work. As you know I have been for many months in a terribly upset state of mind about [631]‘s condition…
Well anyway that SEEMS to clear up two of my anxieties. My own affairs have not shown improvement from a material point of view. I have had to make some readjustments and completely change my habit of living. Meaning in English, give up my apartment and generally readjust myself to reduced circumstances. This effort to balance the budget reminds me of the grey-hounds that chase the rabbit - they never catch up with him. But by selling this and that I am at least stalling off the wolf. My friends have been helpful, even if not in a material way and that is a great encouragement. Unfortunately most of us are not growing richer these days and have little to offer but spiritual help, but that, in the long run. I have just been hearing of a place built up by Mrs. Emerson the Bromo Seltzer heiress who put a million dollars in it and recently sold it for $5,000. This is typical of “the more abundant life”. I see I forgot to finish a sentence above - I had intended saying … but that, in the long run is the more satisfying.
I did not receive any bill but will enclose $10.
Sincerely, [1793]
R2. 5/31/39 EC’s letter to [1793]:
Dear Mr. [1793]:
Thank you for yours of the 29th - and feel that you like most of us will find the information, more and more interesting - it has a way of having hidden secrets, as each time you read it after a few days lapse you will find something new. Or that is the experience of practically everyone who has had such a reading.
Am happy to know some things are clearing up for you. Just hope they all will. As for Mrs. [631] while the remedy is new and untried feel in my gizzard that she is permanently helped and will return to her place in the affairs of life. Be sure to give her my sincere regards when you see her - and tell her that I remember her in my prayers each day, and for her not to forget me when she prays.
Just know Mr. [1793], all strength is in a higher source than our own weak selves - and that that consciousness call it what anyone may is mindful of each of us - and the fear and anxiety will dissipate like fog becore [before?] the wind and sun.
Thank you again - and know am always glad to her from you and with every good wish.
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R3. 6/1/39 Mr. [815]‘s letter to EC: ”…I read Mr. [1793]‘s Life Reading and found it exhilarating (for him too)! Mr. [1793] is deeply touched, and embraced the directions your tireless efforts gave him. While, as for your suggestion in the questions, and indeed earlier in the reading, as to what work he would be best in doing: “Agriculture or it produce, etc.” well, I have had for a few weeks exactly the “alley” in which he could direct his talents - “Humus”. This is a great and well-nigh cosmic solution to the problem of modern farming and its vitiating by chemical fertilizers…”

… & Co., Members New York Stock Exchange New York
Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Virginia
My dear Mr. Cayce:
It’s a long time since I wrote and since your reply. Since then things have not been so good with me. I’ve been in Wall Street ever since I left college forty two years ago and this is no training ground for a useful occupation. It seems to have been the intention of the New Dealers from the beginning, to drive money out of Wall Street and they have done a good job of it until now there is little left and there seems no reason for thinking they will not continue what they started and ultimately destroy this type of business. There may be an occasional firm that has made some money over expenses this year but it seems doubtful.
Because of this general disintegration and my own personal disintegration I have decided that it is time for a look into the future in so far as this may be done and therefore I am calling on you once more for one of those readings which I believe are called “Life Readings”. You may or may not recall that in my last reading in answer to the question should I change my kind of business the answer was “Not now” or “Not yet”. Had I been able to do so I would have long since bought a farm and lived on it which is what I have longed to do for a very long time but when I could have done so I did not and when I cannot do so, as now, the urge is the stronger.
Therefore will you not give me another such reading as a guide? Any time that is convenient to you and the sooner the better.
Mrs. [631] has been with me since last January. She is entirely normal and has been but finds it difficult to forget her experience. Her doctor thought it especially important for her to gain weight and she certainly has done so. I have done what I could for her which has been very little. But now I do not know just what I shall be able to do - if anything. Her family has practically disintegrated financially and the sister who took care of her seems not far from the financial rocks and has moved to Texas. If my business completely disintegrates, and at the present rate this will not take long, I do not see how I can be of any further assistance to her nor even to myself for that matter. These little tragedies are going on throughout the world. What a horrible mess humanity has gotten itself into, and its all so needless. If humanity would use half as much ingenuity in constructive enterprise as in destructive what a pleasant world this would be. With willing cooperation there is nothing that could not be accomplished. This is patently obvious to any thinking person but instead the puny egos of willful men are bringing about chaos.
According to my last reading I am miscast and should be in a different kind of business or environment. That I can well subscribe to. Something to do with the soil I believe was suggested I am in accord with that. But how and when to get into it seems now my problem. Money I do not desire other than sufficient for shelter and food and the simplest kind of living. I’m far beyond the period of my life when I was acquisitive. The slower tempo of farm life makes the strongest kind of appeal to me. I have no especial questions to ask for answers. So just let me know please when you can attend to the reading. If it’s during the day I shall be here at my desk at … as usual excepting for about a half hour for luncheon around twelve o’clock. There is an element of some degree of haste about it because at this time the outlook suggests it. I know of no good reason for anticipating any notable change for the better in the prospects for my business and I am not far removed from the end of my ability to continue.
Cordially, [1793]
P.S. So absorbed have I been in my own affairs that I almost overlooked my wish for a Happy Holiday for you and a prosperous New Year.
R5. 12/24/40 EC’s letter to [1793]:
Dear Mr. [1793]:
Have yours of the 21st - glad to hear from you but sorry to hear things are so uncertain for you, as well as Mrs. [631]. Just hope we may be of some help. The first open period is the morning of the 3rd of Jan. 10.30 to 11.30 E.S.T. Will that time be satisfactory for you - please let me know. And are there any special questions that you have thought of or may before that time. Be sure and let me have them, and verify the period please - hoping we may be the means of being of help.
Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year asking to be remembered very kindly to Mrs. [631].
Sincerely, [signed] Edgar Cayce
R6. 12/26/40 [1793]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
The hour 10.30 to 11.30 in the morning of January third will be entirely satisfactory to me and I thank you for your prompt reply.
The questions that present themselves to my mind are:-
- Would it be well to continue longer at my present occupation?
- If this occupation fails what other occupation is indicated?
- How can the [631] situation be best taken care of - since she is helpless?
I thank you for your good wishes for the New Year. A “prosperous” year seems, at this time, a pretty large order but there’s this to be said for it - the expected seems seldom to happen and so, conversely, it would seem that the unexpected has an excellent chance of turning up. When cogitating about the war I always try to think up the most unexpected happening - and it generally happens. This has been true in a general way with my own life and I suppose there is nothing unique about it.
Wishing you all happiness for the new Year.
Sincerely, [1793]
