GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: As we find with this body here, [1807] there are still those periods when the body is much improved and others when it relapses again to the giving away to the feelings, - as those conditions through the heart’s activity, the general feeling of depletion throughout.
-
But if there will be kept the general applications, - not only the osteopathic corrections but the general attitude of body and mind, we will keep better influences and forces for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Has the condition of heart been affected by illness? If so, what suggestion can you make? (A) As we find, this is rather a reaction or sympathetic condition than any that may cause anxiety to the body.
When the eliminations are kept close to normal it will be found that there is less and less feeling of the disturbance in this area, and through that part of the circulation.
- (Q) Is extraction of teeth necessary? If so, which teeth specifically are diseased or infected? (A) As we find, there are several - especially of the molars - that need some local attention.
Only those need be extracted that would indicate through X-Ray that there is an infection there. As we find, only one of the lower molars on the left side will need this.
But if there will be the use of IPSAB as a massage for the gums, a great deal of this condition will be dissipated, and a much more healthy condition ensue.
-
(Q) Approximately how much longer will treatments be necessary by osteopath? (A) This, to be sure, depends upon the bodily reactions. It is indicated that there may be periods of three to four weeks without the osteopathic adjustments, provided that during such periods there is a great deal of exercise in the open and an occasional rubdown - during that period - by a good masseur.
-
(Q) What is the cause and treatment for chest and shoulder pains which have been constant recently? (A) As we have indicated, there needs to be more closely an adherence to those suggestions for the attitudes, as well as the general treatments for the body osteopathically.
-
(Q) What is the reason for continued or frequent running of temperature? (A) Just as indicated, the sources arise from the disturbances through the lack of the proper eliminations - and arise from conditions associated with the liver in its activity in the GALL duct area.
But with the activities, and with those general applications indicated, this should disappear. But the attitude is as necessary for this body as ANY mechanical or medicinal application.
-
(Q) Would you suggest anything for the gastric-intestinal distress? (A) Do those things as we have indicated. If they are adhered to, they will relieve these disturbances. Don’t leave off the Alcaroid too much.
-
(Q) Any other advice? (A) Follow those suggestions as indicated here, as combined with those that have been given heretofore.
-
We are through with this Reading.

R1. 9/18/39 [1807]‘s letter to EC:
… St., East Orange, N.J.
My dear Mr. Cayce
On June 8th and June 26th you gave me a check reading - I am now asking you when and how soon you can give me another reading.
I have followed your suggestions religiously but am still feeling miserable with my head condition and stomach or intestinal distress. I shall relate what has taken place since my last reading so you may decide if it has had an effect on my condition at the present time. I feel that it would be wise to have another reading to take care additional adjustments and conditions which might have arisen or been aggravated.
In July I had four extractions, at different times, from which I suffered great reactions and was distressed greatly with shock, particularly from the eye-tooth extraction. It was during excessive hot weather and the combination of both weakened me frightfully for several weeks - My heart has given me some great concern because of the rapidity of the pulse and general weakness. Of course, I realize the leaking condition of that organ and am aware that it is susceptible to changes of and shocks to the body but I should like to know if the condition there has been impaired or changed in any way. It is very irregular in spells -
Since July up to the present time I have had a GREAT deal of intestinal, gastric and toxic distress. The Glyco-Thymoline which you suggested was not effective. I was also, a few weeks ago in an automobile accident which shook me up and pained me greatly. All of these things had brought back my head condition and in the past few weeks I am suffering again as I was in the beginning. I have continued my osteopathic treatments with Dr. Dobbins throughout the summer and am still having treatments once a week.
Now that the beastly hot weather is over I look forward to feeling better with your suggestions. I have been rather discouraged with my progress and so perhaps you can given me the answer to it.
My father, Mr. […], has been assuming the financial responsibility, as you know, of membership to the organization and my readings. He has been so very kind in doing so because of Mr. […]‘s and my position in the past year. I do not want to have him assume that further unless it is necessary. For the past year Mr. […] has been unfortunate in business and for many months was unemployed. During that time our obligations and my illness and unexpected expenses due to that went on just the same and it has been very difficult for us to take care of these things even in a small way. Mr. […] is now employed on an out of town assignment and I have been living at home with my parents as a means of economy until we can get on our feet and set up our home where his business is in Connecticut. I should like you to send the bill to me for the reading and allow me to pay some each month after November as I am not in a position to take care of it all right now. Do you think you can do the favor for me? I feel I need your help now again but that is the only way I can reimburse you for your kindness. Will you let me know if it will be possible? I shall be eternally grateful if you can arrange it for me.
These are the questions I should like Answered -
(1) What is the condition of the body at present, and what changes have taken place since last reading?
(2) What corrective measures can you suggest in treatments or manner of living, habits, etc.?
(3) Has condition of heart been affected and should there be any suggestion for treatment of same?
(4) What condition do you find in intestinal tract, stomach and surrounding areas which is giving distress? Treatments and suggestion for correcting that.
(5) What is the best treatment, diet or whatever is necessary for an extreme toxic condition and what is the cause for repeated attacks of this condition?
(6) Has the infection from teeth been thrown off from the body and is the condition of the mouth negative at present?
(7) What has caused the return of bad headaches and can they be eradicated soon. Approximately how soon may they be relieved if suggestions are followed?
(8) What type of exercise is best for the body?
(9) How much longer do you suggest osteopathic treatments necessary?
I should appreciate an early reply, Mr. Cayce and thanking you for your past courtesies and kindnesses, I am
Very Sincerely, Mrs. [1807]
P.S. Would you like me to have Dr. Dobbins submit questions to you regarding his work?
R2. 7/6/39 [1807]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce
After writing you in regard to the delay of my reading I received it the next day. Thank you so much. The letter had been addressed to my former address and had to be forwarded here. Hence the delay.
I am making every effort to follow your suggestions very closely and I do feel that I shall have results soon. I am now beginning to get back to a very favorable point as I was before I was taken ill with influenza. I shall attend to the teeth as soon as possible and keep in touch with you as to my progress.
I thank you for your past courtesies. My best regards and hope you are in the very best of health.
Sincerely, Mrs. [1807]
P.S. To save further trouble my old address at … St. can be discontinued from your files. This is the only present address. I shall let you know any changes.
R3. 9/20/39 EC’s letter to [1807]:
Dear Mrs. [1807]
Thank you for yours of the 18th. Yes, indeed we will be glad to make an appointment for you and you take care of it just as suits your convenience. The first open period we have is the afternoon of the 27th. Hope that will be convenient for you, and if you have the opportunity to have Dr. Dobbins include a few questions that will be fine. Am sure you are quite right with the happenings to have a check up at this time. Sorry that these things had to come about, but do hope there has not been such damage done but can be straightened out soon and you feeling a great deal better. Am sure you will feel much better about trying to take care of the reading yourself. Mighty nice and all to have some one to rely on, but after all there are things we like best to do for ourselves. Can appreciate the conditions and certainly hope it will be so that you and Mr. […] can have your own home and carry on as you wish, that you will be able to look after everything as you would like, and be feeling fine all the while.
Sincerely hope we may be of a real service, in bringing to you the very best of health at this time. Be sure and let me know if the afternoon of the 27th is satisfactory. The hour is 3.30 to 4.30 E.S.T. We are still on standard time and the address you will be at that hour.
Thanking you and hoping to be of a real service.
Sincerely [signed] Edgar Cayce
R4. 9/22/39 [1807]‘s letter to EC:
…, St. E. Orange, N.J.
Dear Mr. Cayce-
The time you have arranged for me on Sept 27, 3.30 to 4.30 P.M. is quite convenient and I shall be at this address.
Thank you greatly for your kindness in giving me the reading as soon as possible as I am in need, great need of help and the sooner the better. Also, many thanks for helping me out in my financial arrangement. It means a great deal.
I failed to state in my last letter that prior to my last reading I asked you about my temperature that had been running off and on for several weeks. In that reading you were inclined to think it was infection from my teeth. Since those extractions I had a recurrence of that condition and in the past few weeks it has been almost daily in afternoon and evening. I am quite concerned about it and would like the following questions answered along with the rest of last weeks. My intestinal distress is quite acute and I am feeling very miserable generally.
Also these are Dr. Dobbins questions enclosed on separate paper -
1). What is the cause for frequent recurring of temperature and how can it be permanently eliminated.
2). What is the reason for stiffness in body and joints, particularly on awakening and at back of knees and shoulders?
3). If osteopathic treatments are to be continued how frequently should I have them. Should I go back to twice weekly instead of once weekly as in past 2 months?
4). I have been suffering considerable stomach and intestinal distress the past 60 days. This is similar to a distress from which I suffered badly for the period of a year. About a year ago the condition cleared up and I have not been bothered with until recently. I am very worried about this. Can you suggest treatments for correction of this or would you suggest I immediately see my own physician who has cared for me for the past 4 years?
Thank you again, Mr. Cayce for your courtesy and I am Gratefully yours - Mrs. [1807]
[Enclosed:] MEMO FROM DR. DOBBINS
Is there any change, indicated at this time, in the osteopathic treatment? If so, what?
Should body still continue with violet-ray?
