This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of December, 1932, in accordance with request made by the wife - Mrs. [778], Active member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces.

2. It would be well for all concerned to consider the dates of this information, as compared with the date of the birth of this entity, for their ratio of relations in the astrological positions to the time or period of birth. Notice, this is at 11:29 A.M. to 7:15 P.M., and the period when the prosperity (as may be termed) is on the “up and up” for the entity.

3. In entering we find astrologically the influences that bear upon the activities of the entity in the present experience are rather of the exceptional nature, and in many respects - as to relations with both groups and individuals, in the mental application of self and in the economic and social relations - the entity’s experience in the present has been just as exceptional. Not inferring that the abilities of the entity are exceptional, save in that with the once finding self in the present experience there may be expected those exceptional developments in all of these phases of the entity’s experience.

4. Coming under those influences that are close to the turn in the position of the earth, in its relation to the astrological aspects (or the ides and the cusps, both), in the present we find the same conditions existent in the other extreme.

5. In the influences are those, as we find, that make for the indecisions, that have so often arisen in the experience of the entity; yet some very sudden, definite, and very opposite from that which may have been assumed or held as true by the entity mentally and materially.

6. As for sojourns of the entity in the astrological aspects, and the activities through the appearances in the earth, as we find, these have influenced and will influence the entity in the present to a great degree; unless there is some very definite activity on the part of the WILL of the entity, but - as given - if the entity finds self, its general relationships to the universal influences and their activity in the affairs of individual experience, and applies same to self, there will be rather the FOLLOWING of the influence than experiencing an activity in opposition to same. As we shall see, these have been rather the periods of developments in various associations and connections, and the present is rather the test period as to what the self as a whole will do about it all. Hence the great question that has so often arisen in the experience of the entity in the present. While decided changes were made the outlook seemed or appeared as definite. With the possession, or in the position as the outlook appeared, as the approach has come, FARTHER - apparently - has been the goal to which the entity desired to attain; yet save when self has allowed self to become despondent has hope ever failed, or has there come the period of utter despair.

7. Then, do not entertain other than, “All is well with my soul, so long as I listen patiently with the divine that is ever present within my experience; and there is need and the necessity for every development, every experience FOR the development of my individuality, my personality, in the present.”

8. From the Venus and the Jupiter influence, combined with the Uranian and Neptune, we find the entity one that is well pleasing of manner; reserved at times; affable in approach; good company to all that are of the mind or intent that deals with questions of import, or that go to the extremes of those that are of little usage save in being pleasant or bringing pleasure of the moment. Hence there are those experiences that, with contacts in certain fields or directions, there is often the feeling that the proper connections have not been made - and the necessity for having what is commonly called “pull.”

9. Often the entity is misjudged as to be the one of shallow abilities, with those influences that would make for the inability to carry on to great extent into affairs dealing with larger propositions, or greater associations in the economic or social conditions; yet, as given, with the FINDING of self - and the relationships of the influences that bear upon the activities of self in the present experience - there should come rather the experience of greater manifestations of abilities, greater insight into that necessary activity in self for the material, the mental, and the spiritual relations in the various activities of the entity.

10. As to the appearances and their influence in the present experience:

11. In the one before this we find in that period when there were many changes taking place in the land of the present nativity, and during those periods when there were settlements being made in many portions of the land. The entity was then among those who came with those people who settled in the land now known as the Georgian, or during those periods when Oglethorpe was given those grants.

12. Hence there comes often to the entity those visions of great amount of hidden knowledge within self as to that which dealt with the basic influences of those peoples who founded this particular portion of the new land.

13. The entity was then was in the name Charmain, and was of the family of Oglethorpe’s wife that was so questioned as to their activities and relations often in the new land. The entity developed and retarded through this experience. While there were the periods of social and material advancement the entity did and would hold true to purpose. With the persecutions, and the questions that arose, there were doubts and fears and the attempt to hedge by acting in the capacity of the “crosser,” as would be termed in the present, bringing to self detrimental influences.

14. The natural tendency in the present is to too often be influenced, or to QUESTION until the time for decisions that SHOULD have been made has passed. How often the entity has found this true in the present experience!

15. Know then, from the influences in Venus with Jupiter, that the love of a cause, a purpose, will make for the strength, the ability, mentally, spiritually, physically, to carry on to a SUCCESSFUL end; provided there is held that which is true, that which is whole, that which is wise, that which is not only efficacious but of the nature that is basically constructive to the better well-BEING of individuals; and the end will be contentment, peace, satisfaction in the experience of the entity, in the labors of the body and of the mind - and THESE are lessons to learn.

16. In the one before this we find in that period known as the French developing period, when there were the greater expansions of the land. The entity was then among those that founded a great household, or a great purpose in the land, in the name Conti. Through the experience the entity gained. While the activities were turned into those of the commercial nature, the purpose and policy being to supply justice to all; there being just a recompense for the service rendered, whether pertaining to that founded for the chemical nature in the essences of flowers or of vegetation, that acted as an assistant to the individuals using such for making pleasant relations and understandings with others. The entity gained throughout, in the name Jacques Conti.

17. We will find that while the commercial world and the commercial influences do have their bearing upon the experience of the entity in the present, if these abilities will be turned rather into that channel dealing with the adornment of the body - not so much that pertaining to that which is of the sham nature, but that which adds to the ABILITIES of individuals to serve in better or greater capacities, then these will make for those developments in such fields that would make for the greater relations and greater abilities.

18. Hence, as we would find, for the entity to become the representative of some organization, or some manufacturer of that which would supply to people a product of THIS nature (and rather should it be of the international), would offer the channel that would bring the entity the relationships that would be of the better in the commercial world, in the financial world, in the relationships that would bring for the entity the material gains and the experiences necessary would be found to be almost an awakening of the innate abilities within self to carry on. In this influence we will find the greater bearing in the present time.

19. In the one before this we find in that period when there were those returnings of a people to the Holy City, and among or with those under Nehemiah did the entity journey from Chaldea to the Holy City, being among those that directed the movements of the peoples - both as the representative of the king and of the peoples that would replenish, re-supply, resuscitate - as it were - the MORAL and material relations of a people to carry on. Hence, innately has it ever been that the ASSOCIATES of the entity in the present have often turned to the entity for counsel and advice, even when the entity is easily influenced by other people. Hence, more or less of a secondary leader has the entity been in the present.

20. The entity gained through this experience, and lost and gained; for with the setting out the entity rose to power; with the humdrum that came with the lack of those elements to supply the same surroundings the entity entertained and enjoyed in the king’s favor, dissipation came, discontent arose, and the entity lacked stamin [stamina?].

21. With the finding of those relationships in others that brought for a better understanding, though hardships ensued in many ways the entity found self and aided in giving to the peoples much strength to withstand those foes without as well as from within.

22. The entity was then in the name Cerrabil.

23. In the one before this we find in that land now known as the Egyptian, during those periods when there were turmoils and strifes through those activities that caused the banishment of the priest. The entity joined with those that made for the rebellion against the king, and found favor with the leaders in this rebellion. When peace and order was restored again, the entity then found self reduced to that state in which little or no confidence seemed to be put in the activities in any direction; yet with the return of the priest and the beginning to build up those activities that made for first establishing self, then the beginning of the dissemination of the truths, the entity was chosen among those that were to establish the commercial relationships with some of those in the particular portion of the country now known as India. During this activity the entity suffered much in body and mind, being torn often between principle, purpose, and the activities of the people to whom the entity went as the emissary; yet remaining true to those vows taken the entity gained in the latter portion and rose to power, both in Egypt and in India. In the name Apt-ha.

24. We will find in the present that in the finding of self (in the present sojourn) the entity will rise to a position where peoples of more than one land will depend upon the entity for the influences, and for the activities that will deal with THEIR well-being in many phases of their experience.

25. As to the abilities of the entity and that to which it may attain, and how:

26. As given, first find self through the comparisons that are drawn for the EARTHLY, MATERIAL conditions; for these we know by comparisons.

27. Then find self as to what is the purpose, the aim, the desire, the goal that the entity would attain in the material, and in the social and economic conditions.

28. Then make those connections with ESPECIALLY a people in France that deal with the distribution of necessities for some phase of human experience, and there will be found that these will work together for the developing of material, the mental, the spiritual relationships of the entity.

29. With the natural influences in the astrological, near waters and near those centers that have to do with the first activity of the entity in the present sojourn will be well. Though hardships may set about, with the purpose well in mind work towards those conditions that are set as the goal.

30. Ready for questions.

31. (Q) In what city would he find his best opportunity? (A) In the present is well. Make connections or associations with those that deal with the foreign relationships from the own city, in the incoming administration; for these will come from this city.

In getting, get understanding. In purpose, do not aim for the material alone; for with the material things only false hopes may come. In the spiritual truths let thy purposes and thy understandings be; for Mind is the builder, but the SOURCE must be in spirituality - that makes for peace, harmony and contentment, knowing that “He doeth all things well.”

My dear Mr. Cayce,

Indeed the Reading arrived in ample time for Xmas, and [1932] said it was the best holiday gift he had ever received! I realize you must have given the work your immediate attention, and thank you very much for such kindness. We found the suggestions very encouraging, and [1932] has already begun to study French as a preparatory step.

It would appear from the Readings that our little family - [1932], the baby [398], and myself, - were all associated with you in Egypt. Thus does history repeat itself, ever-new yet ever-old.

Please tell Hugh to write me. Not hearing from him, I was afraid I might have offended.

About my serving here as Regional Representative - no, I could not undertake it at present. I deeply appreciate your having asked me, and the honor of your confidence in me, but I cannot see my way clear at present. I am always behind in my work and just cannot seem to get caught up. The baby and the house take up most of the day, and in the evenings I generally have some professional astrological work to do. I am doing some now for a Frenchman in New York who saw my “ad” in East-West. So I have to do my studying and correspondence and magazine articles in spare moments. Further, we live away out on the edge of Atlanta, have no car, and do not know anyone in Atlanta.

However. I shall not forget your having asked me, and it may be that later on, or in some other city, I may be of service in the way you suggest. I hope so. Have Hugh send me the data for Representatives anyway. I would like to look it over.

I am enclosing a list of names to whom I would like you to send your literature, explaining the purpose of your Ass’n and the nature of your work, particularly the life readings. I do not know that all of these people will be interested, but some will be. I have included my own name, so I can see just what literature these people will have received.

R2. 10/25/34 Wife’s letter to EC:

Box 187, Atlanta, Ga.

My dear friend Mr. Cayce,

My husband is all upset at present thru not knowing whether he ought to take the Bar Examination (Law) this December or next June? I promised him I would refer the weighty question to you. I meant to ask you some questions about his legal future when I was with you in July but postponed it as you were not feeling up to par.

I have my own ideas of course as to the astrological answers of most of the questions I have asked, but I feel that your powers are so much greater than mine which are merely of the “mortal mind” variety, that I do not put them in the same class in any way. It is not that I doubt the power of astrology to answer any and all questions, for I consider it a true, perfect and hence divine science, but it is deep, profound and obscure and never to be wholly known by any mortal mind. You tap sources of knowledge that are quite closed to my human gaze.

Astrology as it is known to our best minds today is reliable as an index of character and ability rather than as a guide to future developments or events, for many of the keys to forecasting have been lost in the dark ages and not yet rediscovered. The Hindus still have many of them but their science is not known or used in the western world. I know a little of it.

Things have not been going so well and my financial outlook and condition rather alarming. We live as simply as anyone could, no help, automobile, radio or new clothes, but even so, expenses are higher than income with the law books and tuition to be met. However, I am hoping you will have something cheerful to tell us.

My questions, which have been piling up in my mind since 1927 when I had my first and last reading [778-1] can wait till anytime you have the time and inclination to answer them. The questions for my husband should come first, I mean. He has a job in the day, with law school at night. He really loves law and has a good lawyer’s chart.

“What shall we do with this man”? the last Bulletin asked. I often think of that, about you, too. With such a rare power, it would seem your range of public usefulness could be enormous. Yet who knows? perhaps you are best where and how you are. Who knows what threads in some cosmic pattern you are weaving?

Mr. [274] wrote me your Physical Reading for his wife [598-1] was remarkably descriptive and the treatment very helpful. One of my recent clients wants to learn to operate that electrical diagnosis machine. Please send her your literature (if I haven’t already sent you her name?) Miss Kathryn Barnes, Newman, Ga. Your NY doctor hasn’t got in touch with me yet. Many, many thanks for giving me this information requested. I feel it an awe-inspiring privilege to know you and to be fortunate enough to have this great power at my disposal. I only wish I could send some money. Someday…

R3. 10/26/34 Questions for Check Life Reading for [1932]. Living in …, Georgia, born March 22 1903 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

1. In the original Life Reading [1932-1] given Mr. [1932] by Mr. Cayce on Dec 21 1932, the suggestion was given that Mr. [1932] should try to get some commercial connection with something “dealing with the adornment of the body” or “especially with a people in France that deal with the distribution of necessities for some phase of human experience”. No such opportunity has come his way; what efforts he HAS made in this connection have had no result with the exception of one proposition, that he be Georgia agent for a French doctor’s medicinal discovery and formula for stomach troubles and stomach cancers. But this proposition and offer has no immediate bearing, for it would take some time, perhaps years, to get this formula patented in the U.S. and on the market, and the second but insuperable objection is that Mr. [1932] would be required to invest or in some way put up a large sum of money that is quite unobtainable to him. Was this, then, the proposition that the Reading spoke of, or is there something else; if so, how should be [he?] go about contacting the proper parties and what is the nature of the product produced in France that Mr. [1932] could profitably be agent for?

2. Since Sept 1933, Mr. [1932] has been studying law and will graduate next June. He is wholly convinced that in law he has found his proper vocation and has shown more interest and determination to succeed in this subject of law than in anything in his life so far. He wishes to give his whole time to law and is therefore not willing to take on any such commercial enterprise or agency such as suggested by the Reading unless there is some extraordinary reason why he SHOULD do so.

Is law his proper life work?

3. Should he take the Bar Examination for Georgia on Dec. 13, 1934 or wait until the next examination on June 28, 1935? Which is the most favorable time for him to pass this examination?

3a. Will he pass the examination? 4. Is Georgia the proper place for him to get ahead in a legal business? If not, what state and city is the best place for him?

5. Could you give the names of any legal firms or lawyers with whom Mr. [1932] should try to get associated after he has been admitted to the Bar?

6. Should he specialize in Divorce Law and Domestic Relations? Is there a definite legal future for him in such work?

R4. 10/29/34 EC attempted the above reading [10/26/34] for Mr. [1932] but was unable for some reason to get it.

R5. 10/31/34 EC again attempted the reading, 4:35 to 4:40 P.M. He had just come in from fishing and could not get to sleep. After GD came down [from upstairs office to reading room or EC’s study], GC asked what the reading was on. GD didn’t know; she then had to look it up, after EC told her, to get the questions, etc. EC tried for a minute or two to go into trance but gave up, saying he couldn’t “raise the latch.” GC seemed relieved, saying it was late anyway; said he stayed out fishing too long.
