GC: You will give the physical conditions of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [2084]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions have progressed very well with this body. There may be expected at times the repression or congestion in the ovarian areas, especially when there is cold in the body or excess poisons at the Periods. These are the sources of the pains inside.
-
At such times apply Glyco-Thymoline Packs, using hot salt as the source of heat for such, and these will be found to relieve the disturbances.
-
Afterwards have the gentle osteopathic relaxation, especially stimulating the emunctory patches to the glands in those areas just above the pubic center that set up drainages to the ovarian areas. A gentle massage over these areas, then, will stimulate a better flow as well as stimulating these patches for activity of the emunctories in the area at the pit of the stomach. These gentle treatments would be from the front, not from the cerebrospinal system; these are rather to the sympathetic and emunctory and lymph circulation.
-
Do that and we will find, with keeping close to the general suggestions given, we will keep better conditions for this body.
-
Through the periods of the winter or cold weather, keep the vitamins A and D especially for this body, with the occasional use of B-1.
-
For this particular body, we will find that the A and D in the One-A-Day brand, also the B-1 complex would be well; only don’t take the B-1 every day - about twice a week should be sufficient. Take the One-A-Day, A and D every day, from the 15th of December, through the 15th of March. This will be well for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any changes in her diet other than these vitamins? (A) No great changes in diet, except don’t get too much fats for the body. Don’t have too much starches. Vegetables, brown bread, rice bread, rice cakes, and such foods as have been indicated are better for the body. When fowl is taken choose rather the very small bony pieces rather than what might appear to be the more delicate. Take those that are not supposed to be choice pieces - as the wimblebit, the back, the neck, the feet. All of these are much preferable and have much more vital energies for body building. Fish should be taken occasionally, sea foods especially.
-
(Q) Any further suggestions for treatment or attitude? (A) Keep those that have been outlined. These will be well for this body.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 4/7/44 Mr. [2841]‘s cousin’s wife requested a Physical Rdg. for her mother, but EC could not give her an appointment.
R2. 4/16/44 Father’s letter:
…, Conn.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have been intending to write to you for a long time. I have been so rushed in my work that I am ashamed to say that the time has simply slipped by. First we want to thank you for the Christmas card you sent us and which we did appreciate. We sent none this year and in many ways I’m sorry to admit it did not seem like the Christmas season.
This letter, I am writing to earnestly seek your advice concerning little [2084]. I say “little [2084]” [GD’s note: She had same given name as her mother.] although she will be 16 this month, on the last day of the month.
She is without a doubt the most unhappy girl I have ever seen.
Of course we know her physical trouble and are so grateful for the privilege of knowing you and having the help of the information through you. As I have said before, it has been the one thing that has made us feel that she had a chance for health and happiness, and even life. We have tried not to allow anything to interfere with her treatments as we realize how important the factor of timing is.
To begin with she is going through a very difficult period. She is very clever in many ways and is often quite happy when fully occupied on something in which she is interested. She has unfortunately never been one to make many friends. She likes companionship but will not push herself in the least in cases where friendship does not develop spontaneously, which is so often the case. She lacks, and dislikes, the sophistication so prevalent in modern girls and which seems to mean so much to young people these days.
With the aid of their grand parents, the children had the opportunity to visit in the South this past winter. It had been seven years, due to difficult conditions, since either had had a vacation away. [2084] and her brother 10 years old, went South for the Christmas holidays. [2084]‘s diet, watermelon seed tea, artichoke and atomidine were kept up but she had to miss the osteopathic treatments for a few weeks. This worried us, but to offset it she seemed to be bothered much less with constipation while away than when here.
Before she went away she had unfortunately grown to dislike school, I think it is partly the fault of overcrowded conditions in the school and partly an unfortunate loss of interest on her part. This despite the fact that she was doing good work. We had thought the change, of the trip, would give her a different outlook and that she would be more contented when she returned.
While away she met an apparently very nice young man at Camp Murphy, in Florida, and seems to have a really serious feeling for him. He is nearly 24 and she just 16 this month. Later the disparity in years would not be as apparent as now. In any event, she resented terribly having to return home to school and alas is more unhappy than ever. We try in every way possible but seem utterly powerless to make her contented. It isn’t mere bad disposition, for at times when interested she is as sweet as can be. And when showing resentment at her lot, no one is more dismally unhappy than she. She sinks into alarming spells of abysmal depression and has sincerely stated that she wished herself dead. Has said that she couldn’t stand it any longer and that she would run away, only to pitifully realize that she could not run away from the real trouble - herself. Said once that if she had poison she would take it. I do not fear any such action, but it is heartbreaking to see a young person sunk to such levels of mental despair. It is not only sad, but unnatural. We unfortunately have not the means to do the things which might divert her sufficiently to make her happy. I do not mean she is denied normal comforts, but I have had a series of financial disasters that prevent the things which might divert her mind from herself.
Mrs. [2678] is so tired out from the amount of work without help and the added worry of all this and I have so little time at home other than Sundays since I have been with the Army Air Forces, but we do as good a job as we can. However it is evidently not good enough and we are at our wit’s end.
I dislike to bore you with all these details but I frankly feel that you are one of the best friends I have, as you are to so many countless people. I would rather talk with you about a think of this sort, but unfortunately am too far away.
[2084] has also been feeling badly physically. Not a little flash but on the contrary it has persisted for months. Pain in her stomach and abdomen. Almost constant headache “in back of forehead” as she describes it. Also her feet and hands get so inordinately cold so much of the time and she is chilly all over much of the time even in a heated room. She sticks as well as possible, quite closely, to her diet, but is at times terribly resentful and rebellious regarding it. At times queer looking small whitish lumps appear, primarily under the skin of the palms of the hand. They persist for days and are terribly irritating with itching and burning. The go away and later reappear for a time. At the times of her last two readings we had questions regarding these but they were unfortunately left out at the reading.
We should like to have another check reading (physical) as soon as you can give it and we will send a list of questions when we know the date. We also would seriously appreciate your advice with regard to a life reading for her, whether you believe that a part or all of the information we received about her past experiences and tendencies might prove helpful in combatting or changing her present lamentable state of mind. The bulletins we received with excepts from certain life readings are not only very interesting but I can see where in many cases they have been so helpful. I sincerely hope that sometime we will be able to have the proper membership that entitles one to all the publications.
I suppose Virginia Beach is showing very definite signs of spring now. How thankful we shall be to see it here!! We have numerous robins now which is a cheering fact.
When do you expect to be in New York or vicinity again? Travelling is no easy matter now but we always enjoy seeing you. I expect within the next few weeks to be in Richmond and, if humanly possible, I shall get over to Virginia Beach to see you. In the meantime I shall look forward to hearing from you. I know you are swamped with other people’s problems and I suppose it is really a satisfaction when engaged in such truly great work.
We sincerely hope that this finds both you and Mrs. Cayce in the best of health and that the same is true of your boys. Mrs. [2678] joins me in sincere best regards.
Cordially yours, [2841]
R3. 4/25/44 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [2841]:
Mr. [2841] …, Conn.
Dear Mr. [2841]:
We are making the appointment for your daughter’s check-physical reading on the morning of May 12, 1944, EWT between 10:30 and 11:30.
About two weeks before the time for her reading, let us know just WHERE SHE WILL BE - exact address - DURING THE HOUR set for her reading. Also, let us have any questions you care to ask concerning her physical condition at that time. Do have her set aside the period for her reading as a quiet time for prayer and meditation.
We have two booklets, one called “Life Readings,” and the other called “Physical Readings.” The booklet on physical readings, were recently compiled and consists mostly of extracts taken from many different readings. Send for these booklets and have [2084] read them over carefully. Since she is old enough to have a mind of her own, concerning her future, and that which she wants to do, it would be best, if the desire for the life reading come from her. However, since she will be under your care for probably several years to come, as a last resort, you might have one on her, so that you may understand her better. Do see if you can get her interested on her own. These booklets sell for fifty cents each.
It is beautiful here, now. The flowers and birds are very much in evidence and I’m sure there are lots of fish in the lake, even though I haven’t had an opportunity to try my line out.
If you do get down this way, do stop by to see us. We are much too busy, to even keep up a correspondence with members of the family and close friends.
I’m sure you will understand this and be patient with the brief answers to your letters.
Let us hear from you when you have the time.
Best regards, Edgar Cayce [EC:mv]
R4. 5/2/44 Mr. [2841]‘s ltr. to EC:
…, Conn.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Thank you for your letter, and we were very glad to hear from you. We know how busy you must be and we sincerely hope that you take due precaution and watch your own health.
The date and time for [2084]‘s reading will be satisfactory. She will be in her room at the same address, …, Conn. The same place she has been ever since we have lived at this address.
Unfortunately we are unable to get the questions to you two weeks prior to the Reading. When we were notified of the date of the Reading it was then less than two weeks until the time. We hope this does not inconvenience you.
The questions are enclosed with this letter.
We were interested in your comments regarding a Life Reading for [2084]. We mentioned a Life Reading to her but, at her age, she seemed disinterested. We did not press the subject because we do not want her to realize our concern over her low morale as it would aggravate rather than help the situation. Since our last letter to you she has had another spell of utter mental depression that was positively alarming. The only course we see is to have a Reading on her, and to do so without her knowledge would seem to require that it be done right after her physical Reading. Is this possible? We sincerely hope it can be managed for we are at a loss to know what to do to correct this most disturbing situation. Will you please advise us?
In the event that this can be arranged we would be most desirous of knowing the following:
a. What activities should she be guided into to make and hold an interest for her?
b. What should be done to help her cultivate friends? (She does not like the sophisticated type she has been thrown with in school and is desperately lonely. Rebelliously she will not admit it.)
c. What channels of education should she be steered into? (At present she dislikes her school and is disinterested in normal academic subjects.)
d. Where should she live to have the most favorable life.
e. We should like to know of any former experiences that have an effect on her present life.
f. Why, at times, is she so unreasonably resentful of her younger brother. (He is mentally an absolute opposite to her - cheerful, carefree, and able to attract friends on first meeting. Were they ever acquainted in some former experience).
g. We would be interested to know why any advice from us, given in the most careful and tactful manner is heartily resented. Even if appreciated she would not admit it. This is horribly discouraging. Yet withal she is affectionate and considerate in many ways. She is a child of breath taking opposites in disposition, temperamental as an April wind and an outrageous rebel.
I am being very frank about my own child but I feel that I am being so to a very good and sincere friend, and we do so want to get to the source of the trouble.
The Physical Reading will go on in any event and we should be most happy to hear from you regarding the possibility of a Life Reading.
Sincerely yours, [2841]
[Note to GD: When sending Ck. Rdg. on May 12th, tell him date of [2084]‘s Life Rdg.]
QUESTIONS
I. What are the small bumps that occasionally appear under the skin on her hands and feet (sometimes only one hand or even one finger) and are irritating while there? What should be done for them?
II. Frequently after eating she suffers nausea. This also appears at other intervals for no apparent reason. What causes this and what should be done to correct it?
III. She has recently had sharp pain in her right side in the area of the appendix. What should be done for this? Is it her appendix?
IV. What causes frequent spells of bloating of the abdomen? How may this be corrected?
V. She has recently been troubled with a breaking out on her face, especially her forehead. What can we do to rid her of this trouble?
VI. At intervals her hands and feet become terribly cold. Peculiarly this occurs when she is actively doing something. Is it due to poor circulation and what should be done for it?
VII. Should there be any change in her diet, dosage, or osteopathic treatment from that which she has been receiving?
VIII. Has her general condition bettered? Would it benefit her to live in a milder climate? If so, where would be the best location?
IX. She comes home from school very hungry. What might she have that is nourishing but not fattening? She takes on weight so easily.
R5. 5/12/44 See 2084-16.
R6. 2/17/45 10:30 EWT [2084]‘s appointment for a Life Rdg. was cancelled due to EC’s death.
