This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of December, 1929, in accordance with request made by Dr. W. M. Brown, Morton Blumenthal and Edgar Cayce.

1. GC: You will have before you the Ass’n of Nat’l Investigators, Inc., and their Educational Work, especially that phase of it regarding the establishing of the university in connection with the work at this time. You will answer questions which I will ask you regarding same, and regarding the association of Dr. William Moseley Brown of Lexington, Va., with the work.

2. EC: Yes, we have those relations with the Association of National Investigators, and the various contemplated fields of endeavor as respecting education or the educational phase of its work. As has been given, this is one - or the greatest scope of the work of the Association, for the ensample as may be given and as may be lived in the lives of individuals who may contact same is the greatest scope, the greatest field of endeavor. There must, however, be those first principles as set forth by the Association. [GD’s note: See previous advice under [254] series in re A.U. In the 1960’s indexing program the A.U. rdgs. from 12/13/29 forward were moved out of the [254] series to become 2087-1 through 2087-7. For previous info. study index under [254] series in re A.U.] This shall be kept first and foremost in the heart and minds of each and every individual. Not as a tenet to blind the eyes of any. Not merely as a catch-phrase that may influence the lives of individuals seeking to find a way of expressing their individual selves concerning the things that are awakened in the heart and soul of an individual; but rather as a living motto in the hearts, in the lives, in the daily manifestations of each and every individual, whether this be the truckman, the gardener, the instructor, the pupil, or he that would head such an endeavor - but let it ever be “That We May Make Manifest OUR Love, MY Love, ALL Love, for God and Man” [This quote was an expansion of the original motto or creed for “the work” given in 254-42 on 7/15/28: THAT WE MAY MAKE MANIFEST THE LOVE OF GOD AND MAN. In 254-42, Par. 10 and Par. 17-A, MHB had expanded it as above to “Our Love” in his Introductory Booklet on A.N.I.

Then 2087-1 on 12/13/29 phrased it back to him adding to his “Our Love”, the additional words “My Love, All Love, for God”]. That we may know our relations with our fellowman, to do good, that we may make manifest God’s love for man. THIS shall ever be the criterion, the basic force, for any such endeavor - and with this there needs be little fear of the success as may be attained, or little fear of the character of the position such an institution, such an assemblage, may hold in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. Taking that as may be found in every clime, every cism [schism], every ism, that IS truth, and so prepare same that it may find the answer in the hearts and minds of those that seek to know what THEY, THEMSELVES, may do to make this experience, this present manifestation of life in the individual entity, and making it more worthwhile by DOING SOMETHING for the other fellow. In such an undertaking there needs be little fear but what there will be some influences that will tend to hamper, to interfere, to bring doubt, to cause consternation in many places; yet will each individual that associates him or herself with such an [will] undertaking, so ground themselves first in that same tenet, so sanctify their lives, their endeavors, their hearts, their abilities, their lives to such, it, their life, will be made worthwhile - for there is the promise given, “He that abides in me shall NOT want,” and there has never been seen the seed of him that trusteth in God BEGGING for bread. The Truth is the bread of life, even as is found in Him that made life MANIFEST in the material world, and in that SPIRIT, in HIS spirit, as He made manifest the love of God toward man, so may those who would teach - whether the teaching be that of shoveling dirt, raising cabbage, extracting square root, or making drinks, be done with that purpose “That I MAY MAKE MANIFEST My Love, MY Concept, of the God that I trust with my soul” [See original motto wording 254-42]. THEN, the Association will blossom as the rose, and the good WILL not be evil spoken of. Ill will comes from selfishness, and IS OF Him that would hinder - the devil.

3. In the ways that is [are] set, these may bring that as is sought, in an educational way and manner. Not a tenet, as a tenet - but that tenet given that, LIVED IN the life, will bring the better knowledge of man’s passing through THIS material plane. Behold the harvest is ready, the laborers have ever been few - yet he that takes this yoke upon himself and looketh back, or is tempted of the flesh, or of the eye, or of position and fame, and FALLETH - is worse than if he had NOT taken hold; for, even as it was said, “Better had he never been born, or that the millstone was hanged about his neck and he was cast in the depths of the sea” - for “He that maketh one of my little ones to err, becomes a stumbling block to many”. But, lift up thine eyes unto the holy mount, and gain from that as may be experienced in the heart of self, that association OF self with the Spirit that is shed abroad in that lowly sentence “That We May Make MANIFEST OUR Love for God and Man” [paraphrasing of original motto given in 254-42, Par. 17-A, 7/15/28]. The time is ready. Who will harken? Who will make ready, that the light may shine unto the dark places? The time is at hand. MAKE ready. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Should Dr. Wm. Moseley Brown assume the responsibility of directing it in collaboration with the other members of our Educational Committee and the members of the Association? (A) Will Dr. Wm. Moseley Brown make himself the channel for such as has just been given, then DEDICATE his life, his heart, his ABILITIES, those of the talents as have been GIVEN him, to the service of man in understanding THAT relationship. The abilities are there. The talents are there. Will he make them one with that necessary for the proper understanding and relationship, then DO so.

5. (Q) Can Dr. Brown render better service to humanity by following some other line of work, at the same time maintaining his advisory relationship to the Association, or should he devote his full time to the Association’s educational work? (A) THAT must be determined in the heart and soul of Dr. Brown. A house divided against itself CANNOT stand. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Ye are either for or AGAINST me, saith the Lord - for “This day, as of old, there is set before thee good and evil. Choose THOU whom ye will serve”.

6. (Q) Is the present an auspicious time for the establishment of the university? (A) The time is at hand. The harvest is ready. Begin. Commence. Understanding that, to succeed, it must be builded upon that as given. We are through.

R1. 1/13/30 Mr. Thomas B. Brown’s letter to EC:

”…Concerning the University, there is need for such an institution as we had in mind and while it would have been best to have started with but a few teachers who knew of our purpose and a very few students, and to have builded from that start and as a foundation for a larger institution. The present institution to my way of thinking isn’t as we anticipated, through no fault of any particular person. However, looking at in philosophically, the experience will be beneficial to all and from this experience a greater institution will spring forth in not too distant a future…”

R3. 2/23/30 He wrote: ”…I called on Professor Frank D. Slutz yesterday. He was leaving for Chicago and couldn’t give me much time. I told him that we wanted to leave to posterity a system whereby the minds of children could be trained to be turned within and acquire wisdom or knowledge through this development of their intuitive faculties. I said the method of this could best be laid out by those in charge and I would recommend that after talking to Franklin Bradley and others interested in this, he could take a trip down to Va. Beach and see the plans. I told him very little other than that we wanted to be of service in a better educational system…leaving to Dr. Wm. Moseley Brown the presentation of plan and other details in re Dr. Slutz joining A.U. faculty…”

THE IDEAL OF ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY [Quote from 2087-1]

This shall be kept first and foremost in the heart and mind of each and every individual.

Not as a tenet to blind the eyes of any. Not merely as a catch-phrase that may influence the lives of individuals seeking to find a way of expressing their individual selves concerning the things that are awakened in the heart and soul of an individual; but rather as a living motto in the hearts, in the lives, in the daily manifestations of each and every individual, whether this be the truckman, the gardener, the instructor, the pupil, or he that would head such an endeavour -

GROUP VI - (7) EDUCATION ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY

Action Proposals:

1. Consciousness-Raising.

That the members of this Congress and all of the A.R.E. membership convenant together, to concentrate on, meditate on, dream about, think about, and pray for the Atlantic University Seal and Affirmation, to focus the energies of the Creative Forces available to each of us, in order to manifest Atlantic University, so that it may truly represent that which it is capable of becoming, as an instrument of service. Before next Congress, this process should be communicated through the A.R.E. Journal, the A.R.E. News, the Association of Learning Newsletter, (Friends of Atlantic University), so the whole A.R.E. membership can focus on energizing and supporting Atlantic University. 2) Implementation. That an Atlantic University Steering Committee be formed, composed of A.R.E. members from all walks of life, ”…The truckman, the gardener, the instructor, the pupil, or he that would head such an endeavor…”, (2087-1), whose primary A.R.E. committment would be to Atlantic University throughout their membership on this committee. The purpose of this committee would be to lovingly and carefully guide, with decency and order, the unfoldment of Atlantic University, incorporating and being responsive to the contributions resulting from proposal number one. The members of this committee will be selected from a pool of volunteers, by the President and Executive Director of Atlantic University.

Suggestions:

1. That an ongoing space in the A.R.E. Journal be devoted to dissemination of information about Atlantic University, in a similar way to that for the A.R.E. Clinic.

2. That a newsletter for the same purpose be initiated for those specifically interested in Atlantic University, the Association of Learning, (Friends of Atlantic University).

3. That the Steering Committee summarize and coordinate contributions of all kinds, spiritual, mental, and physical: dreams, visions, meditations, ideals, ideas, books, funding, donated time, equipment, etc., resulting from the above actions, and communicate with A.R.E. members through the Atlantic University channels.

4. That an annual report on Atlantic University progress be made at each Congress.

5. That a permanent Atlantic University exhibit be maintained in the A.R.E. library.

6. That the Steering Committee produce a list of potential adjunct faculty available to Atlantic University.

7. That an acting secretary coordinate the material until such time as a Steering Committee is formed.

8. That Atlantic University continue to expand the existing program of introducing courses, some for credit, through experimental college programs to be presented between summer, spring, and winter sessions.

9. That necessary activities to obtain accreditation for Atlantic University be continued.

10. That development be continued of a separate brochure that would describe the ideals, purposes, plans, and personnel for Atlantic University based on excerpts from the work readings concerning Atlantic University.
