This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton W. Harrison, 56 Highland Circle, Bronxville, N.Y., this 20th day of April, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2174], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va., recommended by Mr. [2091].

1. HLC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over the years from the present - ” - ‘38 - yes - ‘31 - changes - ‘17 - anxieties - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2174].

4. In giving the interpretation of the records as we find them here, these are chosen with the desire and purpose that this should be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better analyze self and the purposes for which the soul entered this experience, also the emotions and urges arising from sojourns in the earth as well as on the planes of consciousness during the interims between the earthly sojourns.

5. Thus the entity may become more and more a channel to fulfil those purposes for which it has been endowed, for the carrying forward of HIS purpose with the children of men.

6. As to the urges arising from the so-called astrological aspects, or from the sojourns during the interims between the earthly sojourns, - we find that these in some respects are conflicting, according to the ordinary interpretations of such influences.

7. For, no influence or environ surpasses the will of an entity, - that birthright with which each soul is endowed by its Maker, that it indeed may dwell in harmony with Creative Forces - as may be manifested spiritually, mentally, materially, in the lives and the experiences and the awarenesses of each entity.

8. In Mercury we find a greater rule, or greater ruling influence, yet varied much from that ordinarily applied to same; owing to the great influence arising from a Jupiterian sojourn, as well as a benevolent influence from the Uranian sojourn.

9. Thus we have the high mental abilities of the entity manifested in a benevolent manner, with the greater numbers or masses considered in each thought, each purpose that becomes a part of the entity’s thinking, or study, or analytical mind, - as it studies groups, individuals, and their effect upon masses.

10. Also from the Uranian sojourn we find the active influences of a psychological nature, as to alter the mental activities, - just as exercise would make for development in a materially developing body or mind.

11. Thus we find one endowed with the study of mankind as a whole; particular individuals rather as examples than the classifying of all in one line or way or manner as to the abilities to gather the variations and to analyze purposes that PROMPT individuals. And the entity judges or classifies groups and individuals by the way and manner in which their impetus is prompted, - whether by physical desire, mental hope, or spiritual impetus.

12. This entity, then, is a student, a teacher, an educator; or these activities become the universal basis for the entity’s activity, - not sectional; only as necessary for the considering of the needs of certain classes, or certain characterizations.

13. These are the manners in which the entity finds itself active, then, in the present sojourn; from the urges arising from astrological sojourns as well as from the material or earthly.

14. Of course, these influences from such sojourns may be altered by the application of the will; but these are the activities by choice, the privilege of choice, - for the privilege of such decisions becomes again a part of the entity’s inner being, because of the very nature of these natural urges from the entity’s application of such.

15. Also we find these same urges from the material sojourns coming through the emotional forces of the entity; though this entity has had such a varied experience in its earthly sojourns that it is not an emotional entity, - rather a reasoning individual or entity.

16. Not that the entity is void of sentiment or love, or that the Venus influences are not prominent, - but all of these come as benevolent influences because of the entity’s material application, and are manifested as hopes; with ideals and with longings that - as indicated from the promises in the words of the sages or prophets of old - are counted to the entity for righteousness.

17. As to the appearances in the earth, - we find that these have been quite varied in their apparent activity, yet from these may be seen much of that in the latent or mental manner of application of the entity in the present.

18. For the entity’s seal would be more of a circle than either the shield or the armor; as this is the manner in which the entity - in its application in the material plane - has thought and does think things, and conditions, and experiences, “through.”

19. These are viewed or considered by the entity, then, from every angle; and decisions once made by the entity are seldom changed. Not that the entity becomes as one closed in its activity, - not that the entity is one satisfied with the accomplishments and resting upon its own individual idea; but hold to those tenets that are expressed in the thought that one GROWS in understanding, GROWS in knowledge, GROWS in purpose.

20. Then as these awarenesses arise, more and more is there the embracing of the new as well as the old, and the analyzing of how the new is builded UPON the old - or a pushing out, as it were, of itself INTO the new conditions produced as environments, as motives, as purposes for others.

21. Hence we find, - before this the entity was in the Canadian land, during the early settlings in and about those portions mostly populated now, or the larger centers.

22. Hence we find that trades, traffics, activities in which there were the needs to consider a larger growth, a larger development, were the problems of the entity and its companion.

23. For we find that the entity was among those appointed by its fellows, its associates, to act in the capacity as judge, or one to counsel with the various groups as to the problems which arose; not only as to the relationships with other groups, other nations or other lands, but as to the privilege, the education, and the activities of those who would coordinate the experiences of the peoples toward making the homes more secure, towards making more secure a CONTINUOUS development.

24. There the entity was also in the name of Hepburn, - Catherine; among those peoples who aided much, - not only its companion but its neighbors, and the whole peoples of the land, in constructive influences through the experience.

25. Thus the entity gained; by the very love of the activities, by the very nature of its application of its abilities.

26. Hence in the present we find things relating to law, order, education, developments of groups and masses, are a part of the entity’s thought, a part of the entity’s “thinking through.” And the activities in such give an outlet for the entity, in exercising the growth or development made through that particular sojourn.

27. In the present application from same, keep close to those causes, those purposes which prompted thee even through that sojourn; and we will find the continued growth.

28. For indeed it is true that to him that hath shall it be given.

29. Before that the entity was in the Roman land, during those periods of expansion; including - for the entity - a sojourn with the companion in the Promised Land, as well as the Grecian land, as well as the North African land.

30. Hence we find in the present that the study of such things as the history of peoples, the history of the developing of characteristics of people under this or that form of government, this or that form of activity as related to not only the social life but the agricultural life, and as to the foods and the manners of preparing same, and their effect upon the lives of individuals, - becomes latent and manifested in the present experience.

31. Also those variations as were indicated in things pertaining to representation in the artistic development of individuals, through its associations and activities in the Grecian land and the Grecian thought, are a part of the entity; as well as architectural lines in such are a part of the entity’s consciousness.

32. Also the religious development as indicated through the activities of individuals in the Palestine or Promised Land, as was visioned by the entity; as well as the commercial interests as indicated through the activities in the northern African land.

33. All of these are not only the thoughts of the individual entity, but become as a part of the consciousness.

34. Thus it may be said, and is also said by the entity’s companions, that the entity thinks in terms of national as well as international relationships, and as men would; yet the entity is feminine in its approach, as it were, through such experiences.

35. For, the entity was a helpmate, - not merely a companion of its associate through those experiences.

36. Thus in the present we find that many groups of men, many groups of those in affairs, may count themselves as favored to have the counsel of the entity in respect to their problems.

37. Hence we find there was a great material and mental development through that sojourn.

38. The faults through that particular sojourn might be summed in this: While evaluations were balanced in the experience of the entity, there was not sufficient of the CONTINUITY in the spiritual life applied through the experience.

39. Consequently, this becomes a part of the entity’s seeking in the present, not only in the intellectual manner but in the emotional and in the EXPERIENCES as the entity may have through such activities.

40. Before that the entity was in the Persian land, during those periods when the first of the kings was willing that his subjects, or those under his authority, be allowed to scatter to other lands, other provinces, and be kept under a protectorate - as would be called in the present.

41. We find the greater development or activity of the entity was through the influences which enabled groups and individuals to go to the various lands for specific and for peculiar ideas and activities in relation to their OWN development.

42. For instance, the return to the promised land for the reestablishing of a form of religious thought or purpose; also some of the same groups going to possess the lands now known as portions of Mesopotamia and Turkey, for the agricultural developments or products of the soil. The entity aided its own peoples as well as the other groups to carry on such activities; as well as some of those in the Iran or Persian land in the developments of weaving, of pottery and things of the kind.

43. Hence in the present the entity is interested in the ROUNDED life to which many varied peoples have adapted and do adapt themselves, as to the environments and activities for the development in a UNIFIED activity throughout ANY given group or nation.

44. The entity then was known as the queen of the land for an experience, in the name then of Alkacazar, as would be called in the present.

45. In the experience the entity gained, the entity lost; gained with its abilities for the bringing into the experience of the many a great development in many ways; lost when there were the disappointments arising from the social life about the entity in that period.

46. For then little hates, or little jealousies which arose brought disturbing forces; and these are latent in the experience for the entity in the present. Keep these far from thy consciousness; not as that to be smothered, but meet all such with gentleness, kindness, patience.

47. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean and the Egyptian land, during those periods when there was the exodus of the peoples from Atlantis.

48. The entity was among those who came into Egypt, and with the return of the Priest to an activity in which there was the coordinating of the principles or tenets and teachings in that particular experience, we find that the entity aided - AND MADE IT POSSIBLE, through its influence upon those of her own peoples, for there to be a united effort in that particular period of activity.

49. For, the rebellions of Ajax, Ahaz, and many of the leaders, would not have been brought to a conclusion in a manner in which there could be a union of purpose, save through the efforts then of the entity, in the name Amazeela.

50. In the experience the entity gained, for it held to the principles of the Law of One.

51. So may the entity in the present oft bring to various groups, various individuals, that of harmony out of chaos.

52. Hence we find from that experience, things and individuals having to do with water, with activities and occupations of individuals, are a part of the entity’s study; for instance, that as would take peoples from lower sections of cities or lands and give them greater opportunities for the knowledge of activities in other lands, or the making of one portion of the world acquainted with the manner of living of another portion.

53. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, - throughout its sojourns, as indicated, as well as from the manner in which the entity thinks or plans latently within self, - the entity may give of itself ever in the educational construction for a united effort on the part of ALL peoples of a household, of a city, of a county, of a state, of a nation.

54. Hence UNITY in the activities is and should be to the entity the keynote for the giving of itself; not in loud proclaiming, but - as through its application in the earthly sojourns - little by little, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little.

55. For it is necessary that the growth of individuals, of masses, be directed to the WITHIN; not to the reliance upon those forces without, save AS manifested within. This has been indicated in the admonition by the lawgiver; that it is not who will descend from heaven that we may have a message, or who will come from over the seas, for - Lo - it is within our own hearts, our own conscience.

56. And, as thy body is the temple of the living God, THERE He has promised to meet thee - in the secret chambers of thine own heart; through the purposes, through the desires that ye nourish, that ye cherish in thy daily relationships with others.

57. Ready for questions.

58. (Q) Considering my present relationships, - what have been the former associations with [co-worker, Miss […]]; what are the urges in the present, and what may I do now for the mutual development of us both? (A) As we find, there has been more than one association with the entity [L…]. Consequently, we may say that those problems which arise are a reflection of those conditions which existed in each of the former experiences.

In the sojourn just previous to the present, we find that ye gave to the entity [L…] the OPPORTUNITIES for service, and they were turned into self’s own interest; which caused THEN a break.

On the other hand, we find that in the Egyptian land thy activities were turned into the direction of making overtures to the entity [L…] for the assisting in that necessary for the unifying of activities for the greater service under the directions of the Priest.

Hence we find that in the present there may be persuasive ways used to bring more harmony, and for the greater development, by pointing out the needs for the setting of the ideals in the one purpose, - for the creative influences in the lives of all.

59. (Q) Am I justified in taking the initiative in re-organizing the school? (A) CORRECT!

60. (Q) Is carrying on as I am in the school the best contribution I can make with my personal possibilities? (A) It is ONE of the manners and the places in which the best possibilities, best opportunities are used for the furthering of that which has been and is the purpose of the entity. CARRY ON!

61. (Q) Should I insist on Miss [L…] changing her connection with the school, or keep her in the position where she can do her best work? (A) If there will be the centralizing of this entity, […], into the same ideals as the self, keep her. If there are STILL the rebellious tendencies to have her own way, do not.

62. (Q) Are we going to have money to carry on the school? (A) In less than a year, more than abundance to carry on!

63. (Q) What have been the past associations with my husband; what are the urges in the present, and what may I do for our mutual development? (A) The associations in the sojourn just previous to the present were as brother and sister. Hence ofttimes in the present that same attitude creeps into the activities, so that dissensions arise in minor things; yet these are brought to fruition or activity in a most amiable way and manner.

In the Persian sojourn, we find that the present husband was the king, who - according to the entity WRONGED the entity in that experience. Hence things arise at times in the present, in activities that are very discouraging, disconcerting.

Ye are working it out beautifully! Keep it in the same way and manner, - to give and forgive, counsel and re-counsel, one with the other.

64. (Q) Information given me through a psychic channel indicated death of my husband. Do you find any indication of this in the records, and how can I throw off the effect of this information? (A) By the trust in HIS way and manner, - the creative influences or God, - to work out in thee and in thy husband HIS WAY! Leave it to Him. For life is in His hands.

We do not find that these associations will be soon cut short. [12/9/56 Daughter-in-law [2425]‘s letter: “The four boys are wonderful and Grandpa […] [[2174]‘s husband] always helps us.”]

Let those things that have been indicated as the purposes and aims be kept first and foremost. Let the meditation and prayer oft be:

“OTHERS, Lord - in Thy way! In Thy mercy, in Thy judgments, keep me in the paths of righteousness; renewing oft the righteous spirit within me.”

All the problems I have not wanted to face have been brought to a climax and strangely enough I have found myself not defenseless and this morning after a trustee meeting, where I certainly took the initiative as the reading told me I must, I feel a sense of complete rightness and security - which is the most direct contact I ever made with ‘that which is sure’. Mme. [2629] (whom you met) said this morning that she expected to see me looking exhausted and found me looking as if I had just come back from Florida. And so this morning I feel that my feet are on the road.

“Ever since my Life Reading I have been clearing, or trying to, to the best of my ability, the blocks and debris within myself to clear the channel. Some of the landmarks on the way have been [2425]‘s coming and your offering me the boy [[1208], for her school]. They are very precious…

“There are two questions I have about the reading that I have never asked and now with [2425]‘s I would like to ask. What is the significance of the circle, the shield and the armor? My symbol is the circle, [2425]‘s the shield. Where do they come from. [2425]‘s shield is too beautiful. I have a feeling that we complement each other. The other question is the Law of One. I gained in my Egyptian incarnation because I held to the ‘law of one.’

“As you know I have a very strong feeling against asking from your channel questions that I feel should be solved from within, but I do feel that I would like a Mental-Spiritual Reading. R10. 1/23/41 Letter: “I have been working on the questions for the reading. It seems to be an essay. Perhaps it is not what you want me to send. Therefore I am sending it quickly, so that you can reply…

“Going over my Life Reading - it is all very constructive and positive and it gave a tremendous lift to my self confidence which is evidently what I needed, but it failed to explain why it took me forty-eight years to struggle out of an iron clad environment and breathe the fresh air of being more or less myself - not pictures of other people and rules of environment…

“Ask and ye shall receive. And what I ask is that from the circle which is my life’s seal may radiate those thoughts, feelings and actions which serve His purpose with the children of men in these difficult times. To do this I am seeking through analysis to free myself as a channel. In the meantime imminent and ever present is the school problem where many people are looking to me for their security and future. Here I meet block after block. The block to achievement spiritual and mental, and to a sound financial basis, lies in my relationship to Miss […] [my co-worker], or does it? I no longer see how it is possible for the school to grow with her here as principal and yet what is left for her elsewhere? I have been told through you that if she did not conform to the unselfish picture to dismiss her. I fundamentally feel that the solution should come without cutting the Gordian knot. What can I do? That is my mind seeking to ‘think through.’ Is it not too busy to let through what my heart should understand? Is it not colored by my desire to have my son […] finish in his present school picture? There is a difference in laying all on Him and through inaction shirking one’s task, and seeking through action to find His way. Is this lack of faith - not in Him surely, only lack of confidence in myself, enhanced by the palpable insecurity of the group?

“I ask for help in saving those things which are good in the group that now forms the … School.

“I ask for help in freeing the channel, of myself, to a clearer perception of His purposes…

“This reading may help me tremendously. I wonder what I will get.

“At present everything seems static and hopeless but I suspect it is not as static as it seems.

“Love, as we use the word, can be duty, passion, sentimentality, possessiveness. I have used service as its symbol but somewhere have missed - where?

“I find it difficult to know when the will to a course of action is justifiable or when I am forcing my own personal will - this may lead to inaction which is equally unjustifiable.”
