This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of May, 1940, in accordance with request made by Dr. [2246], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 7:35 to 7:45 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you the well being drilled by the Carmerson Corp., in Smith County, Texas, midway between Big Sandy in Upshur Co., and Winona in Smith Co. Also you will have before you the information which has been given thru this channel concerning this well, together with the wire from Dr. [2246] which I hold in my hand. You will tell us how they should proceed, and what the answer to this wire should be.

2. EC: Yes, we have the operations here of Carmerson Corporation; conditions existing in the present operation; together with the information which has been given, and the request here.

3. Then, we would consider all that has been given concerning operations in this particular location.

4. As we find, the coring has been in formations that should indicate the presence of production. There IS production in this location. Do not abandon same if it is possible to continue, until there is the production in paying quantities.

5. The variation as to depths that have been indicated, - we find that these do show there is the presence of production. It should be reached, if there would not become a whole loss.

6. We would continue operations.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) Continue the coring? (A) As has been indicated, - core until there is an entire change in structure. Then drill if necessary.

9. (Q) Please give about the number of days necessary to continue, that they may know. (A) This will depend upon operations. For, as given, this should occur ANY time - the completion of well, see, - that is, to production; for they are IN formations that should produce.

10. We are through for the present.

R1. 5/28/40 Mrs. [2174]‘s letter to EC: “Firstly we are so sorry that it is through us that you felt you must ask again if you had used your power wrongly and we are delighted at your justification - also at the statement that our approach for information through you has not been wrong. It was an amazing document you sent and gave one pause. It is not clear wherein we have … [?] but we are seeking and earnestly. We - that’s [2246] and […] [his adopted son] and I who are the only ones left here, want you to know that nowhere and at no time has there been any doubt of you, that has never come into the picture - only a seeking on our parts to be worthy spiritually and particularly the opportunity given us by you.

When we came to the 5,000 Ft. and the contract ran out, […] flew to N.Y. to gather pennies for us. She was slightly dramatic and definitely superb. I am sorry that she must become involved financially but some how it will work out.

[2091] went back to meet his duties at the other end.

Strangely enough or perhaps not - my way at home has cleared for the time being and I can stay happily to help […] and [2246] bear the responsibility.”

R2. 6/7/40 [1561]‘s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va.

My dear Friend:

When I telegraphed you that we had reached the Georgetown Lime at about 5500 feet and that the electrifying test of Schlumberger, (very accurate and precise), had revealed the presence of salt water back a few feet in the Woodbine sand, although it did not appear in cores we took, it meant that we could drill no further for three reasons, first that there could be no oil sand below sand containing salt water till we had penetrated beneath the Georgetown Lime which is several hundred feet thick and costly to drill, second, that the rig was not stout enough to drill deeper and thirdly, that we had run out of money already.

I planned to write you at length at once, but my nervous reaction was so great and my disappointment so intense that I collapsed physically and could write no one. I am now about normal once more and I shall try to pick up the threads of life once more and fit them to the pattern I have to make.

[…], Mrs. [2174] and I still believe entirely in the messages which have come through you as a channel and feel that we have not known how to interpret them accurately, no matter how contradictory they may appear, as we read them, to the facts as we found them. We took 24 cores over 500 feet and each one was very carefully tested for oil and water but neither was found, although the electric test did find the salt water.

I should love to come to your Congress but it will not be possible for me. […] and I shall probably motor to our home and fetch his wife and two children to spend the summer here. Mrs. […] flew home Monday night and […] and […] left nine days before that. Please have a statement sent to me of the readings we owe for, that I may send on to New York for a cheque to be sent to you. Dear love from […] and me to you two splendid persons.

R3. 6/10/40 EC’s letter to [1561]:

Dear Dr. [1561]:

Thank you for yours of the 7th - can appreciate your disappointment, for you from your own experience; can feel how keenly we felt it here - is certainly very lovely of you and Mrs. [2174] to have faith and confidence in my feeble efforts after that experience, for it has made me doubt my own self a very great deal - and if hadn’t had many positive assurances, almost immediately - well - don’t know just what would have been my conclusion in the matter. As it is can only say - I do not understand, something is wrong some where

• what and how to correct it, just wish I knew. For me to say am sorry for you and […] especially, well doesn’t sound right; but please know if there is ever any thing that it is possible for me to do for either of you, for gracious sake, please let me try won’t you? Don’t wonder that you were really ill. Let’s just hope God in His own good way will show us all that it wasn’t for the best. For still believe in my heart oil is there on that property - yes, in that hole.

Please let me hear from you all from time to time please, for value your friendship more than any thing, and do hope to keep in touch with you.

There is no statement of any thing due us, please. You have been too good already.

R5. 8/26/40 [2091]‘s letter to EC:

…, New York

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I wonder if you have ever hit upon an explanation which seemed satisfactory to you of why we didn’t find oil this Spring. I don’t mean that the readings may not have been technically correct. Probably if we had gone on down deep enough we might have found oil. But the tone of the readings was so optimistic, suggesting that we go on coring instead of drilling as if we might hit the oil at any moment, that I have never been able to make out what happened. Perhaps, after all this time, you have had or know of the reason why we failed.

When I returned from Texas I immediately had to plunge into farm activities, putting oil out of my mind, and have been busy with them ever since. I hope you had a successful conference and that I may have the report of it when it is sent out.

Please give my kindest regards to Mrs. Cayce and Hugh Lynn and to Gladys.

Needless to say, my part of the shares of the Corporation which you were to have, are at your disposal whenever you would wish to have them.

R6. 9/5/40 EC’s letter to [2091]:

Dear Mr. [2091]:

Thank you for yours of the 26th - have wondered and thought much of the happenings in Tex., but have not come to any decision - other than that the suggestions in the readings were miserable failures. WHY am still asking myself, I know such must come at times - but why it should come when there were so many that were so sincere, so desirous of doing good with the proceeds, don’t understand, possibly will - some time - am sorry for it all, but can’t help.

Have had some very nice letters from Mrs. [2174], am glad she does not censure any one, hope the rest are just as gracious, why the information should appear to help in so many ways, and fail so badly there do not know. Possibly like the “bridge of san-moray” (“Bridge of San Louis Ray”?) requires that a certain number of a certain vibration be together.

Haven’t been well since that trip - disappointment - I guess has been hard carrying on at times at all, but guess had best try and understand and not be a quitter - for guess the Lord dislikes a quitter the worst of all.

Last two weeks have been busy - had fine Congress in June - and almost like a Congress for last two weeks some twenty or more here from all over, then too have undertaken the building program - don’t know where help will come from but must from those whom we have helped - if at all.

Hope all is well with you and please remember me to those at the farm that would care to hear.
