HLC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, conditions show a gradual improvement. While there is a great deal to be desired as yet, we find that these may be gradually corrected if there will be kept those precautions as we have indicated, - in keeping the good eliminations; in keeping the body massaged, warm, well fed and balanced in its diet.
-
Gradually, from time to time, we would change to ALL food values - AS the body grows, you see.
-
These we would keep. As a precaution regarding the toxic forces through the intestinal system, use the Glyco-Thymoline as an intestinal antiseptic - as has been indicated.
-
As to the phlegm indicated in throat, that rattles at times when sleeping, - we find that this may best be overcome by the full massage - front and back - with the equal mixture of Mutton Tallow (melted, Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor). Keep this up, alternating it at times with the use of merely the Camphorated Oil. These as we find are NOT conditions that the system may not absorb and eliminate, if the circulation is kept sufficiently in and through the areas for doing so.
-
Occasionally, if there is a little cold, the use of Syrup of Squill is beneficial to produce a better relaxing of the mucous membranes of bronchi and larynx, as this affects the system.
-
Milk - as to that part of the diet - change this, too, occasionally; but keep plenty of Lime Water in the milk at all times.
-
Also we find that a little of the CALCIOS for this body, too, will be beneficial; not given more than once a week, but this is needed for not only the structural portions of the body-growth but will help with the proper teeth formations. Also we find that the massages with the oils, as outlined, will help in the structural development.
-
(Q) Is there any organic disease of the body? (A) As we find, none that may not be assimilated and eliminated.
-
(Q) Why is body unable to assimilate its food? (A) The unbalanced condition, as indicated. A little of a digestant should be given occasionally; as a few drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin (two to three drops) with each meal for two to three days, then leave off for two or three days, then give again, see?
-
(Q) Why does the right chest-bone protrude? (A) Natural physical construction of the body.
-
(Q) Would you advise circumcision at this time? (A) We would.
-
(Q) Is he developing properly? (A) Very well.
-
(Q) Is there any deformity in the internal structure of the body? (A) We do not find such.
-
(Q) Any other suggestions at this time? (A) Do those as we have indicated.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 1/30/41 Mother [1306]‘s letter:
“[2299] has had a terrible cold again since the reading. He started sneezing Monday afternoon and that nite was so restless he could hardly sleep. I rubbed him with Camphorated Oil and Musterole both, as I have been doing every nite since the last reading when he was ill. I hardly see how he catches cold when I rub him so much. It isn’t in his chest tho - seems to be a head cold. I rub his whole forehead and nose good too. He seemed some better Tuesday but that nite was still awfully restless. I was awake all Monday nite and was so sleepy Tuesday nite from lack of rest I fell to sleep sometime after one o’clock. At two o’clock I was suddenly awakened by a terrible thud. [2299] had fallen off the bed. He screamed for several minutes but apparently wasn’t hurt. I was simply scared to death. It’s the first time he’s ever fallen. The next morning there wasn’t even a bruise to show where he hit his head. He never rolls over (except from one side to the other) but both Monday and Tuesday nites, rolled as far as he could. Looks like most all babies fall off beds, high chairs, etc. at some time but I’ve always been so careful with him. I can’t get over going to sleep and giving him the chance to fall. He still has quite a bit of cold. Will rub him tonite according to reading. I’m so happy about the reading. Glad there’s nothing that cannot be overcome. The Dr. had me worried but feel at ease now. Cousin Edgar, I surely do appreciate your help. I don’t know what we’d do without it.
“Am so sorry about Cousin Gertrude and hope she will be, and can be, helped soon. I know you’re worried about her. When anyone dear to you is ill you can’t rest until they’re either improving or well.
“Here I am with more questions - about [2299]‘s reading. It says to use Glyco as an intestinal antiseptic - does that necessarily mean enemas or does it mean mouth and enemas?
“About his food - I’m sure, all food values, means foods other than baby foods. If you have any suggestions as to cooking or any special vegetable he should begin with, I’d appreciate them. Of course, I know this is gradually adding foods and taking some baby foods out of his diet - doesn’t the occasional change of milk mean cow’s? Do you think I should still strain his oats - you know it’s cooked 3 hours (Quick Quaker). Then too, do you think he should have a change of cereal at times - maybe Cream of Wheat or something? Looks like that’ll be sufficient for the present. I’m always full of questions.
“As soon as he’s over his cold and the weather’s suitable, I’ll take him to be circumcised. I hate to see the poor little darling suffer but of course know it’s best for him.
“Will let you hear from me again soon.
“Take good care of yourself and get Cousin Gertrude well soon…”
R2. 2/5/41 EC’s letter to Mother [1306]: “Glad to have yours of the 1st - hope all are still on the improve - yourself included. The weather here is so unfavorable that one doesn’t seem able to feel good - think Gertrude is better - she has been able to come to the table for last day or so - and feel that is a good sign when one can do that - she is still having lots of trouble with her eyes.
“Hope [2299]‘s cold is better and he is feeling something like his self again. I think we all have to have the experience of the baby falling out of the bed - think it usually scares them worse than anything else.
“Have you been getting your vibrator treatments - don’t want to neglect them for they are very necessary.
“As an antiseptic take internally by mouth as well as use when you give him an enema. Think you will find it will keep his stomach sweet - give a few drops each day until you can detect the odor on the stool - then leave off for a week or so, then give the same way again.
“Yes - of course, don’t overfeed him [2299] - but give him all kinds of food as he is able to assimilate them. Be sure to give him plenty of carrots. They are especially good for him and all other foods - do you give him prunes - include them. Mash them up or strain them for him. Yes - try the cow’s milk but not too much at a time unless he digest it easily. Don’t you find the Pepsin good for him? Yes - would still strain the oats - it digests better and hasn’t the roughness it has without straining. Can you get Maltex there? That is good for him. Also Cream of Wheat is good to change to at times.
“Hope he comes along fine - and don’t hesitate to ask questions. If I don’t answer them at first, ask again. Just wish to help - but am forgetful at times. Feeling fair myself - worked hard yesterday - and am awfully tired today trying to carpenter. Love to all and write soon…”
R3. 2/10/41 Mother [1306]‘s letter to EC: “Was so glad to get your letter of the 5th. I have as yet been unable to go to town but will try today for the Maltex. [2299] seems so tired of his diet. He has gotten to the point where he simply refuses to eat the baby foods. Takes a bite or two and won’t eat anymore. He loses most of his Cod Liver tablet too, because I put it in the baby food.
“Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Will try the prunes - cooked without sugar, I suppose. He loves carrots better than any other vegetable. I intended asking you about the Calcios but forgot to. I don’t know how much to give him or how to give it either. Would you advise mixing it in his food or putting it on premium crackers like I eat it. I think it tastes terrible. [2299] is very fond of tomato juice too - is it alright to give him a little crushed pulp too - of course without the seeds in it?
“The weather here is getting beautiful now. We had a snow Saturday but most of it’s gone now… [2299] looks lots better now - is gaining weight - has another tooth almost thru at the top - almost walking by himself…”
