This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of March, 1941, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1306], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 12:25 to 12:35 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
Conditions, as we find, continue to be serious.
-
We would continue to apply, again and again, the onion poultice over throat and chest. Also we would apply an antiphlogistine plaster across the shoulders over the back.
-
Give small doses of Syrup of Squill; about six to eight drops every hour.
-
Unless the body is a great deal better by five or six o’clock this afternoon, it would be best to have injections for pneumonia - of the sulfanilamide compounds.
-
Be mindful of the diet; not overcrowding the system, but keeping the colon clear from the phlegm that will be the natural effect from this congestion - which may be done by the Glyco-Thymoline taken internally as a purifier - in the manner we have indicated - and, of course, also by enemas.
-
Do that.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/6/41 Letter from Mother: “Dear Cousin Edgar, I received your letter last Thurs. and started my letter to tell you about [2299] that afternoon but couldn’t finish it. He is sleeping now so will try to write now.
“His [2299] cold seemed to be only in his head and was also loose until Wed. night a week ago. That night he became awfully fretful and had a high fever - could sleep only in my arms. I’d lay him down and he’d wake up crying, pulling his ears and back of neck. Mother and I stayed up all night holding him so he could sleep a little. He vomited several times also. Towards morning his temp. went down and he seemed a little easier. Thurs. morning he was in bed but that afternoon wanted his clothes on so I thought it was alright to dress him. At times he’d stop playing and fret a good deal - this went on til Sun. Each night I rubbed him from the top of his back to his hips and in front from his ears and neck covering his bowels. Gave him Glyco and Castoria too off and on from Wed. til Sun. His bowels seemed to stay open but he had little to eat other than his milk. Didn’t have any appetite. He became so wheezy Sun. I called Dr. J. E. Stone - (Dr. Harvey was in New Orleans) [Harvey Stone, M.D.] - He said he might be taking whooping cough - gave some brown pills to make cough syrup (I was giving him Syrup of Squill too.) - that’s all he did - Monday he was no better - I wanted to wire you then but have been getting so many readings was ashamed to ask for another and thought maybe a Dr. could help - as usual he couldn’t. He came again Monday and all he did was leave more pills - said he couldn’t be sure but that it was bronchitis - I was almost crazy with worry because nothing was being done. He was so choked up he sounded like he would choke to death when he coughed. Wheezing for his breath all time. So Tues. morn. I asked [1089] if he’d wire for me. I was so afraid to wait any longer. Now I’m so grateful I didn’t wait.
“I had bought a croup cup and was burning that day and night with benzoin before I got the reading and of course have used it ever since with the Eucalyptus oil also. But didn’t know how much ipecac to use - druggists said 2 to 3 drops - naturally we didn’t get results from that and too we didn’t change the poultices often enough - received copy of rdg. this morning and immediately started changing them every hour and have gotten results from Ipecac four times only giving it three times - he vomited a great deal - lots of phlegm in it each time, he also lost all juices taken. Hasn’t wanted much cereal. I offer it to him but he pushes it away - have tried tomato, pineapple, and orange juice.
“He seems to be resting much easier now - is still wheezy a little and coughs awfully hard (til he’s too weak to move, just relaxes completely) but not as often as before.
“Of course mother is helping me a great deal - makes the poultices and holds the baby, while I prepare his feeding and while I eat something - I’m so tired from lack of sleep but don’t mind just so he gets well. He’s sick so often (it seems) nearly always something acute. I live in fear all time now - so afraid. I try so hard to keep him well - rub every night - full rub front and back. Give him the glyco, lactated pepsin, etc. With all the rubbing I do, I hardly see how he can contract cold at all. Looks like it would keep it away.
“I know God doesn’t put anymore on us than we can bear but I’ve been with [2299] so close - I very seldom leave the house and when I do I usually take him with me, never see a show or anything - I’d rather be with him and if anything ever happens to him I don’t feel like I could stand it, I love him so awfully much. Looks like every Sunday it’s either the weather’s too bad or [2299]‘s got a cold and I don’t get to church. I feel like sometimes if I’d take him anyway and go myself I wouldn’t have so much trouble - yet I don’t stay home cause I want to - I do want to go. You know (the reason I mentioned my not going to church) father’s so religious [Catholic] he says that’s my trouble. Of course, I know my prayers at home mean a lot too but you know how we Catholics feel about Mass. I’ve gone all my life, never missed unless awfully ill and it does hurt me to think I don’t get there now.
“I know this letter’s a general mixture and maybe you can’t get heads or tail from it but I sorta feel ‘dopey’ or something so just excuse it. I tried to give you details of his illness so you’d know just what’s happened. Maybe have left out something but spose you can get some idea how he got sick.
“Cousin Edgar, I don’t know whether or not I’ve thanked you but you know I appreciate everything you’ve done. You have never refused. Looks like without the readings he simply wouldn’t be here.
“Will let you hear from me each chance I get. He’s slept so little and I’ve been so upset - believe he will be lots better tomorrow.
“Hope all of you are well. Glad Cousin Gertrude is well enough to be up and able to conduct readings.”
