[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Florence Edmonds and Louise Eggleston.]
Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, the cause, and suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: An acute condition has developed here, since last we had same - through the intestinal system, especially in the colon.
-
This has produced almost a spasmodic reaction, even in the nervous system.
-
Until there is relief, we would apply every twenty to thirty minutes Turpentine Stupes. Put half a teaspoonful of Spirits of Turpentine in a gallon of warm rain water or distilled water. Wring out cloths in this solution, warm or hot, and apply over the abdomen.
-
Give internally the Glyco-Thymoline as we have indicated, for purifying. Continue this until there is the reaction through the stool.
-
Soon after the third or fourth application of the Stupes, give a soda and salt enema. The proportions would be a level teaspoonful of table salt and a level teaspoonful of baking soda to half a gallon of water, body temperature. Or, half a teaspoonful of each, level, to the quart of water, body temperature.
-
Then when the body improves - and there should be the response within twelve to twenty-four hours - give a tonic for the body, prepared in this way and manner:
-
To 2 ounces of Distilled Water add 1 tablespoonful of Strained Honey. Allow this to come to a boil. Skim off refuse. Then add, in the order named:
Grain Alcohol…1 dram, Fusion of Wild Ginseng…1/2 ounce, Fusion of Wild Ginger…1/2 ounce, Essence of Snake Root…30 drops.
The dosage of this would be half a teaspoonful twice each day.
-
This will keep down, then, the disturbance through the alimentary canal.
-
Be more mindful that there are the evacuations of the bowels once or twice each day.
-
Keep the Pepsin and the Milk of Bismuth at least three times each week, - farther apart than first indicated, but taken together when taken, see?
-
These do, and we will make for bettered conditions with this body, [2299].
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/15/41 Mother [1306]‘s letter to EC: “Received the reading [2299-8] yesterday and immediately sent [1089] to town for the tonic ingredients. However, he stayed downtown until late last nite and I didn’t know until this morning that he couldn’t get it filled - the druggist said he’d have to order a certain quantity and also that he’d have to mix it, himself, making it awfully expensive so [1089] told me to see if you had any suggestions that maybe you knew some druggists who could fill it and send it collect to me. I’m worried to death about not getting it started - I wanted to wire about it but simply haven’t necessary funds. [2299] seems better but is evidently pretty nervous - doesn’t sleep much in daytime - runs all the time.
“I’ll tell you what happened - Thursday morning [2299] didn’t wake up as usual - he hardly ever sleeps later than 7 or 7:30 but the nite before he seemed drowsier than usual so I thought maybe he was just tired. About 9:00 I began to worry, it was so unusual for him, so tried to wake him and couldn’t - sat him in my lap (still asleep) and gave him about 1/4 glass water - he still didn’t wake at all - took his temperature which was normal but he looked flushed and felt hot. I knew something was wrong - he awakens so easily ordinarily and was so limp and lifeless. [1089] went down and wired you about 10 o’clock - then at 5 minutes after eleven I was changing his gown and all of a sudden he woke up
- full of life - raring to go. We simply couldn’t understand it but of course knew he still wasn’t alright. I tried to keep him still the rest of the day - so if you gave the reading it would be better but couldn’t do anything with him
- wanted to be going all the time. His breath seemed shorter than usual tho. He’d almost pant all the time he was playing so hard.
“Received your telegram a little after six and started the treatment but had to quit before the first was on 20 minutes
- [2299] screamed and couldn’t hold him on the bed, so waited until he got sleepy and then started again and stayed up ‘til 1:20 A.M. - each time I changed it he woke up crying - I had to stay up by myself and feeling so badly, too, thought maybe I had kept them on long enough - gave him the enema after 4th application and got good results. Early next morning I tried the applications again but he woke up and I had to quit. Each nite I rub his bowels with the Mutton Tallow mixture - is that alright?
“Cousin Edgar, what do you think causes so much bowel trouble
- I try to be so careful about his food - the last day or so he’s been eating a little better, but before, he got where he refused everything but toast, biscuits or milk - even his oats - I think he’s “burnt out” with them. Each day it’s a problem to find something he’ll consent to eating - naturally it worries me - he doesn’t get the foods he needs to build his body properly. Mother’s so afraid he’ll be sick when I’m in bed [confinement] - I told her not to even think of such a thing.
“While I think of it - how long do I give this tonic - the reading doesn’t specify - a month or so, perhaps? Or until the amount given is used?
“I want to thank you again for coming to my aid - I get panicky when [2299]‘s sick. Will appreciate any information you can give me about the location of the drugs for the tonic.
“Hope you and Cousin Gertrude are feeling fine, too.
“I want to ask so many questions about my next baby - I haven’t bought any clothes - do you clothe them in flannel gowns when they’re born in summer? I thought you’d probably given a reading at some time or other with information about type of clothing, etc., to be used. Have you?
“Do I nurse the baby the first 3 days or put her [[3634] - a boy] on Carnation first thing? Wouldn’t it be best to get a reading on her immediately after birth?
“I know you couldn’t - so don’t try to answer all my questions - I’m so dumb tho and do want to do the right thing.
“Will try to write again soon…”
R2. 6/18/41 EC’s letter to Mother [1306]:
“Just have yours of the 15th - while people are arriving for the Congress, I must take time to write you. Am glad [2299] is better - expect the rest was the best thing in the world to do. Did you see any change in the stool from the applications?
“As for the tonic, it is things that are hard to get - and expect would be best and cheapest to have your local druggist make this up. Give about the entire quantity called for, would be about right, of course in the dosage called for. They can get the crude drugs from Penick and Co., Ashville, N.C. and am sure they will make it for [1089] as cheap as you would get it elsewhere. Believe it will correct the bowel condition - am afraid of colitis if don’t have it corrected. Let him play outside as much as he will - the sunshine will do him more good than a lot of food - and he will probably eat more by playing outside.
“No need to use the application again unless there is a lot of soreness in the bowels. Does he complain of them? Will he allow you to rub them with the Mutton and compound? That is well to keep soreness out without the other. Did the applications start his kidneys anymore?
“You know, [1306], am glad to try and help - am disturbed that can’t always get it as quick as would like - and if you don’t hear, know it is just because can’t get it at that time.
“We are busy - as can be - possibly will have quite a number here for the meeting - [852] and some of her family are coming, expect them Friday.
“As for yourself - do hope you get along nicely - would try and feed [3634] - or nurse the baby for first day or so - then begin the Carnation formula. Your Dr. will give you the correct one, am sure. Yes, some flannel for the baby for first few months anyway - or weeks and then when gets cold, be sure and have some on her.
“Be glad to try the reading soon as possible after birth - so let me know, tho am sure first few days will be OK. But if any trouble, be sure and let me know at once. Think you will come along alright, just take care of yourself - don’t try and stir about too soon because [2299] or baby [3634] is ill. Remember that each need you well and strong and not ailing.
“Here comes some more people so must go. Let me hear from you.
“With love to all,” Cousin Edgar
