This Psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 1st day of May, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2329], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va.

Time of Reading 3:25 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Daylight Saving Time. N.Y.C.

1. GC: You will have before you the life existence in the earth plane of [2329], born November 2, 1898, in Muncie, Indiana, and the earthly existence of this entity in the Egyptian period as the daughter of Ra-Ta who aided and abetted him in the activities which caused his exile, who went into exile with him and later returned with him to become active in the Temple Beautiful and the Temple of Sacrifice. You will give a biographical life of the entity in that day and plane of earthly existence, from entrance - and how - into the earth’s plane, and the entity’s departure, giving the development or retarding points in such an existence. Then you will answer the questions she submits, as I ask them, concerning the making practical application of her abilities in the present life:

2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, now known as [2329] and the information which has been indicated respecting the entity’s experience or sojourn in the Egyptian activity.

3. In giving a biographical sketch, and that as may be helpful in the experience of the entity, - we find that, as we have indicated, there were many unusual circumstances or experiences as activities of the entity during that particular period or sojourn.

4. The name, as would be interpreted in the present, indicates those relations and activities of the entity in that experience as being the “Favored One.”

5. We find that the entity came into Egypt with the rest of the offspring of the Priest (later known as Ra-Ta) and his companion, from the Cascade - or from the Caspian and the Persian lands.

6. During those periods of preparation the entity was active with the associations and influences in which the father rose to the position as the inspirational leader of the peoples.

7. Thus, when there arose those periods of questionings as to the associations and the companionship of the Priest with the dancing girl, or Isris, there became the necessity for the entity to take sides with one or the other of the opinions.

8. Hence, because of the entity’s associations or activities, the entity was banished with the Priest - while the rest of the family were not, - not all, at least - into the land where there was the remaining for the nine years, or the cycle.

9. Thus we find that the entity went through those periods of change as to the activities, as to the study of the tenets and principles that were a part of Ra-Ta’s activity.

10. Consequently, the entity set much in order as to the needs of the peoples; especially in relationships to the preparations of bodies for the coming of the other generations, as well as the preparing of individuals in the mental state as proper channels for distribution of thought - or for specific activities; whether in the realms of teaching, ministering, healing, or in the trades of whatever nature they might be.

11. These, of course, through the experience, had much to do with the activities in the Temple of Sacrifice, - in which there were the first operative measures performed, as would be called at present. For, most of the operations through that particular experience were performed under the anaesthesia of fire - or the drug from the lotus combined with the reeds of the Nile, to prepare the bodies for the searing or burning or cutting as performed upon them.

12. The entity supervised much of the preparations for these. Much of the information or the guide for these was obtained by the entity in those activities during the banishment, because of the experiences of those individuals in the mountains of that land. With the return of the Priest to the position in authority, the entity - as the “Favored One”, Aris-Hobeth - became one who led in those specific activities.

13. When there was the choosing of those for the varied positions in the Temple Beautiful, when there was the preparing of same - and of those who were to officiate in the active influences as teachers and ministers, - such were the activities of the entity through that particular period.

14. Hence the entity became as a high priestess, though never allowing self to be indicated as such; rather choosing to be known only as one being of aid or help in the activities of the office of the Priest himself.

15. Thus the entity in the present is endowed with those abilities for teaching, admonishing, ministering to those who would prepare themselves - either in the mental or the physical state - for certain particular activities individually. For example, the entity may aid those who are preparing for motherhood, or for the particular office of teaching; because of the combination of the entity’s abilities to enter within, to the psychic or the inner self.

16. These should be the channels, the means of expression, if the entity would gain the more in the present in fulfilling those purposes, those abilities in which the entity may excel - or exceed many of those who partake of certain ritualistic activities, or ritualistic performances.

17. As indicated by the entity’s interest in the present, - certain forms of breathing, certain forms of food, certain periods for the meditation, certain periods for the purifying of self in ALL of its relationships to others, - whether in those of its own sex or whether in relationships to those of the opposite sex, - become as a part of those influences in which the entity may apply self in ways, manners and means, in which it may aid others to find themselves and thus fulfil those purposes for which they chose an expression in this present sojourn.

18. Throughout that particular period we find that the entity sojourned in that city where the Temple of Sacrifice and the Temple Beautiful performed their functions, their offices, as the aid to the people.

19. The entity chose not an active force other than as a demonstration in the relationships to others through the sex relations, for the preparations of the body for the new form, the new expression. For, few of those had arisen to that state in which there were the preparations so as to produce the alabaster or all white, or all relationships that brought or made for individuality and better expression for the personality of the entity throughout the sojourn.

20. When there had been the regeneration of the Priest, and when the periods of change came about for this entity, when there was the passing from the active service in the Temple, - with the tenets and laws that had been a part of this entity’s activity throughout its sojourn, - the activities or truths were prepared upon tablets and placed with the entity in the Tomb of Records.

21. It was this entity, this body, that was visioned in this present experience by that entity who was the Priest, as being that channel through which much of the tenets of that particular period might be made known to people in the present. [See 294-189 Reports - 12/2/37.]

22. Thus the close attachments, the close associations that may or may not be established in the present. Yet, as indicated through that vision of the Priest in the present experience, those tenets - through the efforts of this entity, if chosen to be applied - will bring to many the awakening as to how body, mind, AND the adherence to tenets, truths that are of a living nature, may become as a useful application or service in the expression of others at this particular period.

23. Thus, with the present associations, there may be those activities wherein much of good, much of hope, much of better understanding may come to many.

24. Then, in making use of the entity’s abilities as a psychic, as a teacher, as a healer, - this should be the channel, the means, through which greater expression, greater harmony, greater satisfaction may be gained by this entity.

25. Apply self, then, to know much of those records written upon those tablets, that were a part of the entity’s experience.

26. For, these were records made by the entity itself; preserved with the physical being of the entity.

27. Make them practical, though, in the experience of individuals in the occidental thought, and not from the oriental.

28. But there are the needs for the purging of body, of mind; so that through the mind - and the laying on of hands - the entity may bring to others that of health, hope and understanding.

29. Ready for questions.

30. (Q) What basic trends in that Egyptian period were established to be followed through in the present life experience? (A) As indicated. First the preparation, or purging of the body to be a channel for the choice of activity to which an individual may aspire.

Then the preparation of the mind for the application of same in a way as to meet the needs of the individual seekers.

Then, let it never be as a dictatorial or authoritative power, but as a choice from the individual in its search for its relationships to creative influences in this material world.

31. (Q) Would it be wise for me to develop what psychic abilities I seem to have now, so that these would be under control and called upon at will for aid to others? (A) Be decidedly well. For, the body, the mind, is well fitted as a channel; so that, by entering into meditation, there may come those influences from its own abilities as a seeress, as a prophetess, as a high priestess in that experience, to know the needs of the individuals as they seek.

Credit the power to the divine as it manifests through self. For, it is that self-expression that is needed in the preparation and in the ministering of same to the needs of others.

32. (Q) Will this develop normally and naturally, or should there be a deliberate attempt? (A) As it were, expose self to its development; not by force but by entering into meditation, - allowing the influence of the generative force through the glandular system to be raised to the various centers; first for the purifying of self, then for the obtaining of that necessary - through symbol, sign or vision - to be accomplished for individuals seeking.

33. (Q) Is the emotional stability strong enough for such psychic developments? (A) It is strong enough, if these emotions are allowed to be used as an aid, as a help to others.

34. (Q) How may I bring about greater emotional stability? (A) As the body-mind entertains and enters into the raising of the kundalini influence through the body, surround self with the light of the Christ-Consciousness, - by thought, by word of mouth, by impressing it upon self. And in that light there may be never any harm to self or to the emotions of the body, or any fear of the mental and spiritual self being entertained or used by the dark influence.

35. (Q) Are my present activities in line with my real work? (A) These are in line. Entertain more and more the various steps as these are awakened by self.

The closer that the entity in these directions will stay to those that were the guiding forces which the entity so upheld during that Egyptian experience, the greater may be the abilities for service to others in this sojourn.

36. (Q) Where are those records or tablets made of that Egyptian experience, which I might study? (A) In the Tomb of Records, as indicated. For the entity’s tomb then was a part of the Hall of Records, which has not yet been uncovered. It lies between - or along that entrance from the Sphinx to the temple - or the pyramid; in a pyramid, of course, of its own.

37. (Q) Through what channels of the Association for Research & Enlightenment may the entity gain the most? (A) As it begins it s further preparation and activity, seek through those channels for guidance - as it is felt that it is needed; or begin with the interpreting of the tablets. For, remember there are thirty-two of these plates!

38. (Q) Is it indicated as to when, approximately, these tablets may be discovered, or uncovered? (A) By fifty-eight (‘58).

39. (Q) How may I now find those records, or should I wait - or must I wait? (A) You will find the records by that channel as indicated, as these may be obtained MENTALLY. As for the physical records, - it will be necessary to wait until the full time has come for the breaking up of much that has been in the nature of selfish motives in the world. For, remember, these records were made from the angle of WORLD movements. So must thy activities be in the present of the universal approach, but as applied to the individual.

Keep the faith. Know that the ability lies within self.

As ye were then the offspring of, and the helpmeet to, that one who bore such an influence upon the movements of mankind through that period, so may thy power, thy might, thy love, thy faith, thy abilities do much for mankind in these dark hours again.

Hold fast to the faith of thy fathers.

Dear Mr. Cayce -

The Egyptian period reading came this morning and I find it most interesting and redundant of meaning for this present period.

I note Miss Gladys did not get the given name as there was so much noise. It is remarkable she got the rest of the reading. I jotted down at the time what the name sounded like - but just made a stab at it as I couldn’t hear well. It sounded something like A-etha. In the former reading it was given as Aris-Hobeth. Some time when you are checking on those tablets you might try again for the name so we can be certain. Whatever name given at this last reading I see meant “The Favored One.”

Did you understand that you could be the instrument thru which the tablets could be read? I have not the ability so far! I see no reason why you could not - with your great ability. Let me know what you think about it.

The full moon of May comes at 12:15 p.m. E. Standard Time - May 11th. It is the Wesak [also spelled Vesak] period when it is said the lord Buddha comes close to the earth & in conjunction with the Christ pours blessings upon humanity. You perhaps know of this. I don’t know why I mention it. The school keeps the time for meditation as near the hour as possible.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

It was sweet of you to call this morning. You are quite sensitive to thot - naturally -

Last nite after midnite I wanted to meditate and as usual I finished up sending my Higher Self’s blessing to any one I wished to aid or to just happily remember - So I sent it to you also - And you responded in this fine manner!

I lead a busy and varied life. For instance today I must get a dress for tomorrow - Plan a party for dinner for six tomorrow in our garden (Let’s hope it doesn’t rain!) - Answer some urgent letters - Send some references to Mrs. Bailey [Alice A. Bailey]. I jotted down for her for some lectures she’s giving in Minneapolis in a few weeks. She’s giving 20 on meditation. Check up on some school work - and so it goes. AND I have to be careful not to overdo - too much stimulation these days & one must be careful of the energies of the body. A joyful heart is the best guard I know of. That means to keep the inner contact strong.

Had a happy time with your son’s visit and a nice trip home - My best to you & yours

Dear Mrs. [2329]:-

All back at the Beach again - and all the experiences in N.Y. appear as but a dream, a very pleasant one in places, but as far off. Was certainly very fine to see and have a few moments chat with you. Appreciate more than can tell you your coming to Scarsdale. Hope did not upset you with the wonderment of your reading - trust however you find something there as answers to a something within yourself. Then if so

• will try and help if can and may, that you may make practical application of the good that may be found in same. Believe you have a wonderful opportunity, as you have such wonderful development here and now. There is evidently much that you may do if you choose to manifest same at this time.

Hope the garden party wasn’t spoiled by rain - and that you had a most wonderful time at the Group dinner at the Penn. Was lovely of you to ask us all - only sorry couldn’t be there. Please if at all practical come for our series of meetings next month - June 19-20-21-22. Do believe you will enjoy the meetings, and meeting the people that come here at that time - am sure all will be better for your being here, and trust you find it helpful - please do come. Dear Mr. Cayce,

It was good to have your nice letter - I want to write to say what I was afraid I did not say clearly, that whatever I may be able to do I want to remain in the background. And for the present I think it best for no one other than … (?) the know circumstances now, had better not know. I haven’t brooded enough over the whole thing as I haven’t had the leisure.

For two weeks I must “wade (?) in” & do some back work for my Psy. course at Columbia.

The rain interfered with the garden party - but we had a good time inside & took our guests to hear the “Boogie Woogie” music at a Cafe. It is amazing music & will tell you about it when I see you. […] said it did me so much good to hear it & dance that he was going to take me every two weeks! Don’t I live a funny life for a serious aspirant! But I have a hunch it keeps me very normal & balanced & close to people.

I saw yours and your son’s archetypes [See 294-204] & they are beautiful. So impressed. Nancy [Nancy Fullwood] brought them in with others to show her work to a Chicago man - a Dr. Davidson who was here for the sch. conference.

Dear Mrs. [2329]:- Thanks for yours of the 14th - to be sure what ever is done or comes about, must be from the wish on your part. Just wish to assure you am willing to help if I may. To be sure am anxious, but know must learn patience and as have waited now some 10 thousand years - may have to wait so long again having tho - once known - I wonder. So it is for you to either express the desire to know more, or try further or what ever it may be.

To be sure the work you are doing at Columbia, should fit you all the better to keep surely balanced, in such studies or experiments into such fields. So that must be finished while you ponder on the subject. Of what shall we say of being awakened. But do keep physically fit - so take care there to be sure.

Too bad the rain had to spoil the Garden party - excellent tho you could turn it into such a pleasant evening. Yes - sure takes all of life to really experience it all. The extremes meet only in one influence, the beginning and the end. For the other side of start - is stop.

Heard the Boogie Woogie music last evening - in a manner - some of the boys from one of the camps here - with a nationally known radio-worker. Good for one now and then am sure. Think Mr. […] is quite right, you should hear it at least once every two weeks.

Funny life - so do we all - who aspire - and dream - dreamers especially - don’t you think, yes - that is what will keep one balanced - too much of good is bad for the principal is - “The Lord Thy God Is One” and that is moderation in all things, BUT ALL THINGS.

The Archetypes [archetypes - see 294-204] came today - they are very unusual - but quite a bit Oriental. What does yours look like? describe it to me please. What did you think of mine - seem to have been squashed some where along the line - or something like that from the central figure.

Will be planning for your visit to the congress - and may I hear again real soon. Just hope don’t bore you too much.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Would you mind very much sending me your birth data? I want my astrologer, whom I have a great deal of confidence in, do it for me - to see how our tendencies fit. Do you mind greatly? I know this is an unusual request for ones horoscope is such a private affair!

But I’ve had such a hectic life I can’t go blindly into something. Mr. Oblo, my astrologer, has been of immense help to me. He is a fine esoteric student and a great student of the Bible.

Do you get the impression from that last reading of mine that the contents of those tablets are to be received thru readings on your part? That is what I got. My part is to interpret them in relationship to the occidental mind - so I gathered.

Dear me, Mr. Cayce, it takes so much courage to stand up to life! Then when you have such a sensitive vehicle as I have, the whole doggone business is so magnified!

Thank you for yours of the 10th - feel very much complemented that you would care to have my Astrological chart - or reading - be glad to send the data, necessary, if may have a copy of same please.

Was born on the 18th of Mar. 1877 - 3.15 P.M. near Hopkinsville, Ky. Will appreciate any information along this line that I may have.

Do hope you are planning to come to the Congress next week - Please do if at all possible.

A student from your school who lives in Pittsburgh will be one of the speakers. Have never met her but am sure you would enjoy knowing her from what have hear of her [Marion Wolfe - Mrs. George M. Wolfe]. But you have a programme - haven’t you? Will be looking for you. Yes - think the tablets are to be read - but you are to prepare the truths - or lessons for use here and at this time, is what have gathered from the information.

Trust every thing has been fine with your work - and all finished up in just the way you wished to do it.

Life is a courageous experience - but you of all I have known

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

You haven’t heard from me simply because I’ve been so scattered in routine living plus a real tying up of the threads of a bad time which have lasted for two years. Poor health conditions, but now I’m sure I’m knitting together and am going in an even keel again. The key is of course, the WILL to see the picture and the WILL to carry it thru. Had guests during your conference of your organization.

I had your horoscope done with your kind permission. Mr. Oblo does not write these out, but I always take notes so here they are. I place great confidence in Mr. Oblo’s work for he has proved himself over and over these past four or five years.

“Perfect chart for Psychism and Mysticism. Bad for intuition but perfect mentally, sharp and penetrating.

“Fine personality and good organizer. Appreciates art and always has a hidden means (some method or way for support).

“Has trouble with feet, arch swelling. Take care of it.

“For six months beginning in October 1941. Proposed Mars in Aquarius in 6th House on crisp of 7th making opposition to radical Uranus in head in 12th House. This set up can bring two things:

A. A very unconventional love affair that will go on the rocks, or B. Or a psychic attraction which can bring in the glamour and illusion for the astral fields.

“This is a real test and must be overcome. If you do, you will win out in the end and go places, - if not, you will go back considerably.

“This is a big test. The Dweller on the Threshold, must summon all philosophy. There will be extreme tension which will call for all possible control.

“There will be a breaking up of conditions which will make or break you. Exercise great patience and control. Very dangerous time - even for accidents. DON’T BREAK PRESENT RHYTHM OF LIFE.

“From Sept. 31st. to Oct. 31st. you will have great deal of deception from being gullible and going into partnership. DO NOT DO THIS. LEARN TO WORK ALONE.

“Mars opposition to Uranus can make one overthrow everything worthwhile in life.

“Yours and mine relationship is poorest, weakest, most negative possible between two horoscopes! I can’t help. The belief I can aid you is unconscious camouflage and a beginning of this deception glamour. My working with you would all make it “go to pot.”

“In fall of 1943 - progressed Mars in Aquarius a cusp of 7th House will square Pluto in midheaven in Taurus causing destruction of all your work done up to this time UNLESS you overcome this condition coming this Fall.

“If there is trouble with you wife, use calmness and if necessary to separate, do so amiablely, however, this is not necessary.

“Between May and June of 1942 you will have an alienation of some form of partnership, friendship or business, or a company or an organization in which you may be interested.

“The entire lesson of this life time is that you must learn to work ALONE. This is the sum and substance of the horoscope and by this you will get better results.

“Partnership with women or men will cause disturbance and distortion of your own work. WORK ALONE.

“The emotional side of your life may upset the TRUENESS of your readings, even your finances. Therefore, look out, as cannot serve two masters at once. For you, any generous desire, even for money is wrong in order to keep you psychic abilities TRUE.

“You will have test on the above for about 7 or 8 years and you must come thru. 1941 and 1942 are the worst. If you stand firm you can be of great service to human race. Use GREAT COURAGE and not keep it upset emotional or negative side of life.”

Mr. Oblo said otherwise you have a beautiful horoscope and he does not in any way discredit your ability as a psychic. He added, - those tested most are most worthy.

Now, I hope this horoscope reading will be a great service to you in that you will be fore-warned and therefore, more than armed to cut thru that “Dweller on the Threshold.” It is my understanding that those who really meet the “Dweller” are those courageous souls who have advanced to the last barrier to liberation. So you have earned the test! That is something to see as accomplishment in the lives previous and in this too.

The dream which you have had over and over again [294-62, Par. 7-A] of which you told me, where the woman meets you in a field and offers her hand and places a cloth of gold over your clasped hands is not to be interpreted as any mortal woman. Hence, your foolish mistakes in this life which you said your searching has led you into.

The symbology is this - The woman is the soul (yours) she meets you in the field of life’s experience. When you learn to recognize her she clasps your hand (union) and this union is clothed or externalized by the Divine gift of real Intuition from the buddhic planes (in occult terminology) symbolized by the cloth of gold, the color of that plane. Together you cross a stream, the symbol of that hiatus in consciousness between the higher and lower mind. That mind is one (only separation in finite consciousness) but we cross it by means of evoking the soul’s strength of wisdom, which in turn evokes new powers in the lower mind to comprehend.

You go up a small embankment and travel down a little way on a road. But you both wish to go up the high steep hill (on top of the mount). You find a sword or dagger on the road, the two edged sword of truth and only by this can the Dweller on the Threshold be approached. You have to cut steps in the Hill of Truth in order to mount. Up to date, you have not reached the top. You will, once the Dweller is fought and proved to be only the meeting of the residue of the glamour of the past lives. It is really then NOTHING but the thought forms built up over past lives of YOURSELF. We stand ALONE in this test. Alone with our soul’s aid and that divine light that it gives and that strength for the next step. It is maintained by FAITH in your Divinity and part of the Great ONE LIFE. You will be tested in all means of self-glamour. You will play hunches mistaking them for intuition! So use the two edged Sword here to back away at yourself and your emotional and mental reactions in order to arrive at True Intuition. It has one hall mark that is infallible. So far as I know. If there is a question of right or wrong, it can be solved by always choosing that which brings the greatest good for the whole - regardless of personal sacrifice and suffering. For the Light of Intuition is Love - Wisdom and always operates for the Whole.

When the battle gets thick always think on the Master. You know your Master - a great privilege. Talk to Him as tho’ He were by your side. We can always be reached via your soul for that is what He is at one with. Therefore, strain for Union with the Soul. Do you know these moments of fusion? Has your meditation training taken you to this? At any rate your desire and aspiration for it will take you far. The mystic knows union in his feeling nature, but that must be translated into terms of consciousness, - wisdom, plus the life of the mystic.

Dear Mrs. [2329]:-

Have yours of the 12th, and am most grateful for your taking the time to write me as you have. Certainly very sweet of you to take the notes on the Astrological report, and appreciate it more than can tell you. Will do my best to justify your confidence in me as well as the reader, and apply in a way as to be of the most help to the most people. If I have been the means of being of help through the years, then certainly would not wish to undo it all here at this date. Though I realize my weaknesses and know pretty well wherein they lie, and being forewarned as you say will try and be forearmed.

Don’t quite get it - your and my relationship the poorest - but that may be very true - who knows. To be sure we all have to choose, even when we know just what is the best application to be made to meet an condition. If done in the spirit of truth am sure much strength can and may come out of a weakness. If the weakness is magnified, more weakness would necessarily be the result. So suppose time alone may tell what the choice has been, I give thanks tho that have had the privilege of knowing you, and am sure am better for having done so, and trust you are none the worse, possibly helped somewhere.

May I measure up to the test as is before me - and am asking that you remember me in your prayers.

As for the dream [294-62, Par. 7-A] - yours is the best interpretation that have had through the years. True it may be all myself, and suppose it is, and the feeling that have had all along that it referred to a personality other than myself may be all wrong - possibly why it has come so often, and just at times when had met or was to meet some lovely person - has been a test for me - and haven’t been able to recognize it. It is all so vivid, all save the veiled lady, and you possibly are exactly right it is my other self. Will then try and see, feel, experience it all in this light and thank you for setting me on the right path. Therefore feel am more than indebted to you for you kindness and good wishes. Am sure tho we never meet a personality by chance. There is a definite reason there can be mutual help, there can be something worthwhile coming from same will each, not become possessive, nor have the idea of what can I get out of same but more of what can I give attitude.

So again I say thank you - am sorry indeed that you could not attend our last meeting. Believe there was more spirituality evinced than have ever seen at any similar meeting, and that am sure is what is needed most in the world today one of the Students [Marion Wolfe] of your School spoke for us. While had never met her before found her very lovely, a wonderful speaker (a teacher in Pittsburgh) and one well qualified to give a real helpful message.

Dear Mr. Cayce -

This letter may come as a surprise to you - But I have thot of you a number of times since I last saw you, a year ago this past summer when my husband & I had a few days vacation at Virginia Beach. Mr. Sugrue’s book about your life & work had not been out so very long and I found it had brought a flood of requests to you for help. You told me you had increased your daily “going out” to about double. I was concerned - your wife & those about you were troubled as they felt it would endanger your health and naturally this would react on your future usefulness.

You told me of the experience you had where you were told you would be protected & given strength, [12/12/42 Dream under 294-196, Par. R21] and your determination to continue the increased output. Nevertheless, I was concerned & tonite after I had retired about 1 A.M., for no reason at all in associating ideas that I can see, you popped into my mind & I HAD to get up & write this to you! I should say here, that when this happens I always obey and write to the one about the thots that came & the results more than compensated for the effort.

So I am writing to you - a letter of warning - from one disciple to another, my friend.

Do you recall my having your horoscope cast by a fine astrologer in N.Y. & I wrote you his warning? This was 3 or 4 years ago. He said in essence, that in about 2 years time you would be tested by a time of glamour on a very high level. It would come about thru a group of people who were very WELL MEANING - it would be a peculiar form of exploitation of your gifts, not so much as for money, but in their belief in you & your work. He said your chart indicated a remarkably high type of psychism that was true, BUT if you acquiesced to this exploitation you would become enmeshed in glamour & your work would not have its precious high level & trueness. Your health would so suffer that your reason could be endangered, and that all you had done would fail - That this period of trial would last about 7 years & if you passed thru it with wise discrimination you would come out with greater spiritual powers and usefulness.

Do you not see, my friend, that this book, brought out by loving & earnest friends, has been the means of exploiting your great gifts? Your loving & naturally giving of yourself nature has lead you to try to give of yourself MORE in order to alleviate the individual sufferings of humanity. - The requests for help poured in & I suspect still do. You were in a dilemma as to WHAT to do! How to sort out the most urgent cases, all seemed urgent.

Do you recall that Christ did not always heal? also that He took periods of rest - away from all people at times?

The world is full of suffering humanity & always has been - & it seems heightened at these great days of battle between the forces of evil & the forces of light. Anyone who is worth a tinker’s damn is passing thru the fires of purification at this great & momentous period of humanity’s trial. Your door is not the last hope for these urgent requests - for the EARNEST seeker will receive aid & comfort, & this is given thru many channels. Your work is ONE channel & you are ONE man & can humanly do just so much. - Those turned away will receive help as you bless each name & KNOWING that the Divine Healing Ray will enfold them. This will ATTRACT the help they need.

Those on the other side who said they would help you & stand by, may be doing this - but, my friend, you are still human & you work thru a human mechanism & your wise discrimination is needed here. May I ask you a personal question to be put to yourself? Did your MASTER SANCTION this increased sacrifice of yourself? If the Master came to you & said you could do this with SAFETY & you KNOW it to BE the MASTER, then I have nothing further to say. If He did not - then I say you have NO RIGHT to do this.

I think & believe this period is the SUPREME test of your life, a test of discriminating between glamour & reality. Glamour, as you may well know, is subtle DELUSION on the ASTRAL plane & glamour can happen in the highest levels of the astral as ILLUSION can happen on mental planes.

I must be honest with you - as you told me of your experience [See 294-205 Reports] in that great company of people where you were told you would be protected & when you made your choice - I felt it was high grade glamour - very likely a true happening on the astral plane - but nonetheless, glamour. I must be brutally frank here - tho’ I do it out of concern for you & your work. Did it ever occur to you that YOUR ACQUIESCING to the demands, these impossible demands on your strength, is an EXTREMELY SUBTLE form of EGOTISM? Does this shock you my friend? I am making no accusations - I merely put the question to you to ask YOURSELF. I have no personal interest in the answers & indeed prefer not to know.

Well meaning & loving sacrifice is often the result of hidden springs of egotism. The motive must be sought for very deeply & I KNOW you searched. But sometimes these hidden factors escape us unless their possibilities are pointed out to us. This I do in all humility & regard for your really great & unselfish act in carrying on your work throughout the years!

If you are still carrying on your increased output, I beg of you to stop it. I feel, that instead of giving to INDIVIDUALS you should give your periods of work, to the carrying out of the teaching - This, in the end, will help many many people to help themselves spiritually (which is the urgent need) & this will heal many people in itself. The teaching is ALWAYS healing as it works out from the consciousness to the physical plane in each individual’s life.

Dear Mrs. [2329]:-

Your letter addressed to Mr. Cayce was opened and read by me, along with a hundred others in the same mail. I am simply amazed at the revelations you have received without being in direct contact with Mr. Cayce for over a year. The pity of it is that your warnings did not come a year ago, though I doubt if they would have been heeded. Mr. Cayce has been quite ill and unable to give readings for the last three months. It now seems that it will be several months more before he will be able, if then, to continue his work. The last reading he gave, which was for himself on Sept. 17th, stated that he was suffering from complete nerve exhaustion. He is now at home and following the treatment suggested for him through that reading, which is very similar to that given in other ailments of like nature, and we can see definite improvement from day to day. However, it is going to require patience and persistence on his part as well as on the part of all those around him, to renew the life force sufficiently to allow him to continue his work for others. I personally feel the truth of your statements. He also is beginning to realize that his regeneration must come from within, and that he cannot break natural laws without suffering the consequences. We can certainly say with the psalmist, “It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

I did not read your letter to him in detail but gave him the highlights as to personal warnings, etc., which he has already been forced to heed, but he did not stop driving himself until it was too late to prevent the nerve collapse. Gradually he is getting a bit stronger - he has dictated a letter to his son overseas, and one or two notes besides. Other than that he has not taken an interest in anything pertaining to the office for some time. Of course, he has always been the extremist - he either wants to handle the thousand little details pertaining to the office or he doesn’t want to do any of it.

You see, the great deluge of requests which tore him to pieces came from an article in the Coronet Magazine in September 1943, and another short article in September 1944 Coronet is still bringing in hundreds of letters from people who have no conception of what they are asking. The people who read Thomas Sugrue’s book THERE IS A RIVER usually approach this work with an attitude of humbleness, feeling that it will indeed be a privilege of a lifetime to receive a personal reading. The ones who read the Coronet article write to him just like they would to fortune teller, wanting him to do everything under the sun, anywhere from finding lost articles to straightening out their love life. I feel it was the impact of such thoughts directed toward him that really undermined his ability to keep contact with his source of supply.

I sincerely believe he will be rejuvenated and able, in time, to do a much greater spiritual work. What is happening to him now, I think, is somewhat comparable to the Egyptian experience of regeneration in which you played such an important part. Also I believe the whole picture of his regeneration has been portrayed for us in his dream had several years ago regarding the Egyptian mummy coming to life, and the reading of the plates. Remember? [294-189 Reports] He wants you to come to see him as soon as it is possible - he feels that you can help him now as you did in the old days. I’m sorry I lost track of your address so it was not possible to keep in touch with you during the last few months, but perhaps it has all been for the best and we should start NOW instead of looking back. My dear Gladys -

Your kind letter came to me in December and I had determined to go see Mr. Cayce about the turn of the year. I felt uneasy about him, but not enough to drop everything on receipt of your letter for it was so full of hope - and probably you had every reason to hope for Mr. Cayce’s recovery. I had to make a trip to N.Y. and while there some one told me he had passed on. I was simply stunned. It must have come very unexpectedly to you and his family.

When I saw Mr. Cayce at Virginia Beach I warned him then, but he was adamant. I also told Mrs. Cayce she must do something to put a stop to his over-work & she said it was just impossible to get him to stop. I think Mr. Cayce was not inclined to give me his full attention because Mr. Kahn was there with some gentleman - the noon meal was about to be served & I felt Mr. Cayce was not interested in my visit particularly. Tho’ he did take time to tell me the conditions of this vision which he felt he had protection & strength promised to him.

Just as Mr. Oblo, the astrologer, told me - Mr. Cayce was liable to be unwittingly exploited by a group of well-meaning people & he must use discrimination. As you know, I referred to this information in my last letter, when I gave him the whole reading of Mr. Oblo a few years back. Dear me - it seems as tho’ fate took a hand - I suppose people who are extremists, such as really devoted people as Mr. Cayce is, have to learn wise discrimination the hard way. However, Mr. Cayce never MISUSED his great gift & that is his great protection in the future. What he conceived to be his duty was only where he misjudged.

I have not contacted Mr. Cayce. I am not very susceptible to astral contact - tho’ upon occasions of real import I have. However, I understand when people go on to the other side in a state of extreme exhaustion, they rest for some time. I have visited in these REST places & they are wonderful.

I am wondering if the Ass. is planning to continue etc. - No doubt plans had been made in the event of Mr. Cayce’s work being terminated. Your own devotion to Mr. Cayce & his work has been outstanding and I hope you will find your proper place in order to use your abilities and loving heart.

Thank you for writing me and I would appreciate a letter from you when time permits so that I may have the circumstances. I do hope Mrs. Cayce is alright for it is hard to have your partner of many years leave you - I will write to her when I hear from you. The thot just came to me - how dreadful if the report is not true of Mr. Cayce & I should write a letter of condolences! -

Life is very full in Washington but I am trying to do my own work anyway - I give a lecture in “Psychology & the Centers” at the … Theosophical Society … Esoteric Psychology & psychological healing is my main line of endeavor -
