This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of June, 1941, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [2517], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [1770].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2517].
-
As we find, there are disturbing conditions. These are latent and yet give very definite reactions in the body.
-
While the basic or first cause has not been overcome, it has become rather a secondary condition - and must be taken into consideration if there will be brought normal forces.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them at present, and the basic causes for same - [2517].
-
THE BLOOD SUPPLY indicates an unbalanced condition in the chemical reactions, and a lack - in the beginning - of the vitamin or vital forces as might be best adapted to the body, - B-1 and F, or B-2.
-
These produced a nervous reaction, or a lack of nerve vitamin forces. Thus, with the disturbances to the sympathetic system, the high nerve tension or nerve exhaustion that followed, there was a still greater reduction in the chemical forces of the body.
-
With this condition still apparent, there were the experiences through which the body passed that used up the energies for the needs of other vital forces, - as the calcium, the iodine - or the activities to thyroids and the system’s functioning through the glandular force.
-
With the continued attempt of the system to draw on these, the basic disturbances in the present come to the blood force and nerve energy as supplied from the glandular system.
-
Hence we find, in making applications to be beneficial, all of these disturbances, as well as the extravagant activity in any of the vital organs themselves, must be considered.
-
The ORGANS have been kept in a very good reaction; through the stimulating of the centers in the nervous system - or systems, that has kept the glands from becoming more and more involved - and the organs near normal, though weakened in their ability to reproduce themselves at the same time as overcoming disturbances in the body.
-
Thus that continued drawing which is experienced in the nerve centers of the locomotories and through parts of the body, especially as related to tendons and their connection with the structural portions of the body.
-
These, then, are the conditions to be met.
-
First, there must be activity supplied to the glandular forces. Hence first we would begin by the administration of those properties to cleanse or purify the glands, and at the same time supply sufficient of the vital forces not to create an unbalanced condition in the activity of the lungs, the liver and the kidneys, as well as that especially of the lymph circulation.
-
Then, begin taking immediately one drop of Atomidine each morning before any meal is taken, for five days. Take this in half a glass of water.
-
On the sixth day take five drops at once, before the morning meal, in half a glass of water.
-
Then that same afternoon have a bath in a saturated solution of Epsom Salts; not so hot as to produce too great a relaxation, but sufficiently warm to open well the pores of the superficial circulation - which has been too little done with this body. This will also relax the body thoroughly. Use at least ten pounds of Epsom Salts to forty gallons of water - these proportions. Remain in such a bath for at least twenty-five to thirty minutes. While in the bath it is well to massage the limbs and the locomotory centers, across the hips, the lumbar and sacral areas, and especially between the shoulders.
-
When coming from the bath, have a thorough massage with Peanut Oil, - all that the body will absorb; followed with an alcohol rub - but use GRAIN alcohol, NOT denatured alcohol; about a twenty percent solution, see?
-
Leave off the Atomidine for a week. Then begin again; one drop each morning before the meal - for five days. On the sixth day take five drops.
-
Then have the second Epsom Salts Bath, followed with the rubs as before - then wait a week and start all over again.
-
Also begin immediately with the thorough relaxations osteopathically, twice each week for a three to four week period, - leave off a week, then begin again. With the properties being administered, let these be relaxing treatments, rather than giving too great a stimulation to any specific portions of the cerebrospinal system.
-
Each day take same amount of CALCIOS. This is a form in which calcium may be better assimilated by the system. We would take the quantity as may be spread on a whole wheat cracker, and eaten once each day.
-
Once each week take a full glass of raw milk with a teaspoonful of ACIGEST stirred in same. Keep this up for at least five to six weeks.
-
And when there has been the third or fourth series of ALL of these treatments, we should find greater and better conditions for the body. But we would then give further instructions.
-
As to the diet throughout the period, - keep close to those foods that will supply the greater quantity of B-1 vitamin.
-
Mornings - either citrus fruits or cereals, but do not take the cereals at the same meal with the oranges or grapefruit. Either take one or the other. They may be alternated daily, or the oranges and grapefruit may be taken for two or three mornings, then the cereals for two or three mornings. Buckwheat cakes with Karo syrup may be taken if desired; also the yolk of an egg, but not the white - this preferably boiled and seasoned. Either or all of these may be taken for morning meal.
-
Noons - let at least a part of this meal consist of raw vegetables, which should include carrots - raw and grated. Also have plenty of cooked carrots, - but cook them in their own juices (as in Patapar Paper) and eat the juices with them.
-
Evenings - especially sea foods, as oft as practical just so they do not become obnoxious to the body. Vary them of all characters. Fish or shell fish, or any or all of these at various times, and prepare in varied manners; though never too much of these fried. Rather have them broiled, boiled, baked, stewed, scalloped or the like. Also fowl should be taken oft, and should be prepared so that the body may CHEW the bony pieces - cooking it thoroughly in its own juices (never fried), so that the ends of the bones may be well masticated and the juice swallowed. Any marrow stews are well for the body; marrow fat or marrow bone prepared or broken and put in the soups or stews. These are well. The bread should be made with the re-conditioned or revitalized flour, so that the phosphorus, iron and vitamins are all in same.
-
Do these and we will bring the bettered conditions; but after the third series we would give further instructions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/21/41 Mrs. [2517]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your wonderful reading yesterday and thank God that you could be given a guiding Light to help my physical condition. I pray that we may be able to follow your advice successfully.
The Dr. was here last evening and has agreed to cooperate under your guidance. His name is Dr. Henry J. Hoyer [Dr. Henry J. Hoyer, D.O.], 112 Connett Place, South Orange, New Jersey. If our present doctors had not been willing to cooperate we would have dismissed his service and called Dr. Taylor of whom you mentioned.
There is something I would like to say to you and perhaps receive an answer from you to either reassure me or make me see more clearly.
From the first of March, through the first week in June I was having severe osteopathic treatment on the spleen, thyroid, intestines and lymphatic section of the body. This I know irritated my physical condition due to glandular disorder etc. I suffered untold agony after such treatments and suggested to the doctor that he go lighter on the treatments. However he, the doctor, felt it was the correct treatment and natural after affects. Who was I to talk back? Consequently I have been getting worse and at present am so weak that at times I have a hard time to guide my limbs properly.
Since about June 8th I have been having less severe osteopathic treatments from our present doctor. These treatments still stir me up a great deal and I personally feel that I am throwing money out the window when it comes to doctors helping me.
There is one thing I know and that is when I am given a nice soothing Witch Hazel or powder rub it will do more to quiet and comfort me than all the osteopathic treatments I have been given.
Is it possible that this could be as much help to me as a treatment. If you think this a silly idea of mine, just say so and I will try and forget about it and continue with said treatments.
Another thing, I wanted to ask about the diet. Should I continue with usual diet except for what you had stated in your reading? I have been taking about three-quarters of a teaspoon of Vegex B1, B2 each day. Also one capsule of Unicap Vitamins A - D - C - B1 - B2 (G) B-6 and Nicotinic Acid Amide. Should I continue with these said vitamins in addition to the ones you mentioned?
I pray that this letter does not cause you too much trouble and time but I feel a little at sea and would like to be put on land in such thoughts.
Thank you,
Sincerely, [2517]
R2. 6/24/41 EC’s letter to Mrs. [2517]:
Dear Mrs. [2517]
Have yours of the 21st - am glad you are pleased with your reading - and feel you are going to have most excellent results - will there be carried out ALL that is suggested, no more and no less.
Do hope the Osteopath will follow the suggestion as is indicated - of course he is not to give the strenuous treatments he has been giving - and if he does the information will check up on it. From the information there is needed chemical changes in your body, and there has been given the things to do this - you see there will be some time even before you have another treatment from the Osteo - and then as said it is to be a relaxing treatment and not a stimulating one.
Think you will find the Epsom Salts bath rubs and the rubs after with Peanut Oil will ease you as you haven’t had. The other things will supply your body needs, then the gentler relaxing treatments of the Osteo will really help.
B-1 is not something that is stored in the body - so believe the quantity suggested here with other things is sufficient - if not you will soon know and can add more.
Would not take any of the vitamins unless you feel too great a letdown by not having them - if you do write me and will check at once and see what would be best - would do now for a while only - ONLY what the information suggests.
Just heard from Mrs. [1770] - she asked about you - and am sure was keeping the period with you.
Let me hear from you. Hoping in His name to have been of help.
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R3. 6/21/41 EC’s letter to Mrs. [1770]: “Yes, we had the reading for Mrs. [2517] and have heard from her since. She seems very pleased with the suggestions and wrote a very lovely, beautiful letter. I just hope all the love and beauty that has been told me and showered on me in the last few weeks doesn’t make me something I should not be. ‘Just keep me humble and gracious, Lord,’ is my prayer, ‘and more and more a channel of help for many, and may I ever tell the love of Jesus to all, and live it myself.’ Do hope she will be really helped a lot. I feel sure she will.”
R4. 7/1/41 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter: “The poor child - now that she has had the one reading I hope that she will continue and that enlightenment will come to the young couple, that God’s miracles are being performed in this generation.”
R5. 7/22/41 Mrs. [2517]‘s card: “I am moving to Mass. to live after Aug. 15th. Would you kindly refer to your doctors’ records and see if you have a cooperative doctor in … and …, Mass. If not, I will confer with my doctor in regards to getting a new doctor.
“My health is better and this coming week is my week to rest from treatments.”
R6. 7/24/41 GD’s reply:
The only osteopath in Massachusetts who has had any experience with the Readings (according to our records) is a Dr. Murry A. Catron who treated a case in … We have a report from Dr. Catron on that case, which is a very favorable one.
In looking through the osteopathic directory I find a Dr. Lee H. Catron, 1626 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, Mass. I’m wondering if he is relative of Dr. Murry A. Catron. If so, he might be sympathetic to following the Reading suggestions for treatment - after consulting with Dr. Murry Catron.
Please let us know the name and address of the osteopath you choose, so we may put him on our mailing list. There are many osteopaths throughout the country who have had experience with the Readings and who would be glad to write your osteopath telling him their findings in regard to information coming through this source.
We are very glad to know that your health is improved, and trust that it will continue to improve rapidly until you are entirely well.
With kindest regards and hoping you will keep us advised as to your progress, I am
Sincerely, EDGAR CAYCE by GD
P.S. In the osteopathic directory I find the following osteopaths in Haverhill: Dr. Elmar W. Carter, 344 Main St. Dr. Mary B. Horn, 132 Main St. Dr. Chas. F. Reed, 204 Main St. Dr. Amelia Sperl, 95 Main St.
In Melrose Highlands: Dr. Chas. K. Barkhouse, 601 Franklin St.
We have had no personal contact with these osteopaths, however.
R7. 7/28/41 Mrs. [2517]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have finished my third series of treatments and will begin this Wednesday July 30 on my fourth series of Atomidine which will continue until Monday when I have the Epsom Salts bath, Aug. 4th.
This information is to enable you to send me further instructions in accordance with my first reading.
Sincerely yours, [2517]
P.S. Thank you for your cooperation in suggesting osteopathic physicians in my new locality.
R8. 8/4/41 Mrs. [2517]’ letter to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your letter Saturday and will be in prayer Wed. Aug. 6th 11:30 - 12:30 D.S.T.

Background
Background
B1. 6/9/41 Mrs. [2517]‘s letter:
My physical trouble is termed as flumatic rheumatism of the joints. The doctors feel that this condition is due to a nervous emotional shock caused from learning of my mother’s mental condition (degeneration of brain cells) which was caused from a shock in Feb. 1938.
As near as I can remember my first severe attack of this rheumatism was in June 1938 while visiting my folks. Since then I have had it off and on. During my pregnancy I had it constantly. After the baby was born I have had it off and on, but since first of March it has been bothering me constantly and steadily getting worse.
The doctor cleared up an overactive thyroid condition and some intestinal trouble since first of March. However, he cannot seem to cure my rheumatism. The doctor’s treatment is complete bed rest with two osteopathic treatments a week. I have been in bed two and a half weeks to date.
Is the treatment the right thing to do? When the leg joints are affected I have no choice.
Is there any possible treatment that can help me or cure me?
I love my family and want to be on my feet and taking care of them myself instead of having paid, strange help, which we will have to have after my ever faithful mother-in-law leaves us on Saturday.
We have been under a heavy expense and do not care to prolong this expense. I am in hopes you can help me and will expect to hear definite date from your society. The sooner the reading the more grateful we will be to you.
B2. 6/16/41 Mrs. [1770]‘s letter: “My dear friend Mrs. […] has written that her daughter-in-law, Mrs. [2517], of …, N.J. is to finally have a reading. I’m overjoyed for I suggested one two years ago and during these two years the poor girl has grown steadily worse. Why do people have so little faith? Two years ago $20 seemed so much to pay for a reading, but during those years they have spent hundreds to different doctors and the medical men now agree they cannot diagnose her case. It’s the same old story, isn’t it? When all else fails, they try God. Mrs. […] writes ‘the reading takes place at 3:30 to 4:30 EST and we would love to know you added your prayers to ours during the period of the reading.’ But she failed to give me the date of the reading. Never mind - I’ll be with you.”
