HLC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with further suggestions for corrective measures; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2582]; this we have had before.
-
As we find, conditions are very much improved in the general physical forces of the body; and there only needs to be kept a normal reaction for the body, in order to continue on the improve - until we will find normal reactions throughout the system.
-
To be sure, there are still those inclinations or tendencies for acid reactions in the body. Hence the necessity for some precautions as to the diet, as to keep the body tending towards the alkalized or an alkaline condition in the body, - to prevent colds or congestion causing some upset through some portion of the body.
-
It would be better for this to be done more in the diet than by the use of other properties; though when there are those tendencies, a saline alkalizer would be very well to keep the normalcy in these directions.
-
This we would do.
-
Occasionally, if there are those tendencies for a tautness in the extremities, we would have a thorough RELAXING of the body osteopathically; this not at any particular series or time, but when or should conditions occur.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) The hair on lips has not decreased. What further treatment do you advise? (A) We would keep those things that have been indicated for this, and these - with the balancing of the glandular forces - remove or eradicate these disturbances.
-
(Q) Should Atomidine and Adiron be continued? (A) Occasionally; that is, the Atomidine should be taken occasionally; possibly five days during a month, see? (five days prior to the menstrual period)
Adiron we would begin about the first of December and take regularly through December, January and February, and to the 8th to 10th of March.
-
(Q) Would plucking or bleaching of the hair on lips be harmful? (A) Unless there are other changes made, this would be harmful.
-
(Q) Are present eyeglasses properly fitted, or should they be changed? (A) We would keep them as they are, for at least three to four months.
-
(Q) What has caused the recent feeling of strain in eyes? (A) The tendencies for the drawing or straining on the system, as tending towards an acidity through the body. Hence, as indicated, we would increase the eliminations - when such occurs - by the use of some saline solution; or the taking of salt of mornings, - about a quarter teaspoonful of table salt (preferably iodized salt) in warm or hot water, before the morning meal. Take it for at least three mornings in succession, leave it off, and then take it again if necessary. This would adjust this condition.
-
(Q) What can be done to eliminate puffiness and lines around eyes? (A) The keeping of better eliminations will prevent these. This is the reaction from the kidneys.
-
(Q) What has caused the recent stomach upsets? (A) Acidity, as has been given.
-
(Q) When a physic is needed, what is recommended? (A) Just what we have been giving!
-
(Q) What can I do to build up resistance against getting chilled from any change in temperature, particularly in winter time? (A) As has been outlined.
-
(Q) Is it good or bad for my face to substitute skin freshener instead of so much water? (A) Would be very well.
-
(Q) What soap is best for my skin? (A) Woodbury.
-
(Q) Would ice skating be a good exercise for me? (A) Be very good, if there are precautions taken that you don’t get overheated or too wet.
-
(Q) What would you advise to prevent my hair from turning gray? (A) Use the juice of potato peelings at least three times a week. Cook the Irish potato peelings in a little water (with a top on the container, of course), and drink the juice from same.
Use on the hair, after the cleansing, a little White Vaseline. This will keep the hair from turning gray.
-
(Q) What causes excess oiliness of the hair? (A) The activity of the thyroid, for which you are taking the Atomidine!
-
(Q) Any further advice? (A) Keep close to those suggestions indicated. Conditions are better, but be mindful that conditions are kept towards normalcy - or that the activities are kept in that direction. And when better eliminations are needed, use those properties as indicated; being mindful of the diet.
-
We are through with this Reading.

R2. 4/9/43 GD’s reply to her [2582] request 4/6/43 in re friend’s wife who has amyothropic lateral sclerosis.
Dear [2582]:
We have had readings on several types of sclerosis but not (recently, so I could put my fingers on it) the particular type you mention. Usually such cases involve a long, tedious treatment which requires a great deal of faith, hard work and persistence to carry out for sufficient period to get results. I do not believe it would be advisable for the husband to seek a reading on this case unless he is first convinced within himself of the validity of the information coming through Mr. Cayce, and believes that help from a divine source might come through this channel for his wife. Also, since the case is so far advanced, it might necessitate
- in addition to his confidence - the cooperation of the physician in charge. Of course, help might be offered and it might not. We never know. He would have to take that chance. As you know, the readings are not a cure-all by any means. I do believe the majority of cases, no matter how serious, could be helped by following the reading suggestions
- if only to make suggestions for a better way of relieving suffering temporarily. However, I certainly don’t think anyone should be urged to get a reading - it should come, the request, because of an inner prompting.
Yes, some of our most satisfactory first readings have been made by mail. In fact, some of our case histories - as presented in the book “There Is a River” - are on people Mr. Cayce has not seen to this day. A reading could also be had without her knowledge, provided the seeking came from her husband or one entirely responsible for her physical, mental and spiritual welfare. However, it might be to her own advantage to know of it, in the event that it might give her renewed hope for recovery.
I’m sorry if I appear pessimistic about this, but I think your best procedure is to get the young man to read the book, tell him your experience - the cases you have known of, etc., and then let him “do the do,” keeping out of it yourself entirely. I have had sad experiences through the years (some with members of my own family) from hurrying people into getting readings. We can only tell them our experience and leave it at that. The rest is up to them.
Just this minute as I write, Hugh Lynn is talking over the phone with Tom in Lexington. Hugh Lynn goes into the Army today and wanted to have a talk with Tom before leaving. He is being inducted this time, after several deferments. He has gotten some wonderful letters of recommendation and is going to try to get into the Special Services Division, doing Personnel work. His reading indicates that if he uses every opportunity, he may end up in the Personnel Office in Washington. We hope so. He is so well fitted for that type of work.
Mary and Tom and Patsy, I understand, are leaving soon for Clearwater to spend three months. The stay in Lexington has not been a very happy one for any of them, and Tom’s condition has been at a standstill. After the three months in Florida, trying to recoup, they plan to go back to New York. I do feel so sorry for Mary. While Tom has had a hard pull, she has borne the brunt of it. I’m just hoping and praying that in a few more months she will begin to reap some of the material rewards for her efforts.
Kindest regards from all, [signed] Gladys
P.S. The publisher assures us that there will be a second and a third edition of the book. Also they are ready for Tom to start a sequel to it. So it looks good from that angle. The only thing that worries us is the great batch of requests coming in, and how Mr. Cayce is possibly going to answer all of them. But perhaps it will work itself out.
R3. 4/20/44 Questions:
What causes tense feeling in forehead over eyes at times?
What caused frequent sore throat during last December - and if this recurs, what remedy suggested?
Did the “sulfa” medicine taken then have any harmful effect - and if so, what will relieve this?
Should ATOMIDINE and ADIRON be continued? Any other vitamine tablets needed?
Will Curley Calpans tablets prevent my hair from turning grey? If not will any other tablets prevent this?
Is my present prescription for eyeglasses correct?
Will my new eyeglasses in the new frames prove harmful?
I am considering for dental work Doctors Magner, Brazinsky or Murphy. Whom do you suggest?
Shall I take Mr. Lowell’s treatments? If not, what course of such treatments do you suggest?
Since diet has not caused hair on lips to diminish, is there anything which will prevent this that can be used externally? Will cutting or bleaching increase growth?
Have you any suggestions for improvement on present method of make-up and cleaning of skin of face? Can you suggest foundation cream to counteract dryness?
Where shall I spend vacation this summer to obtain most benefits?
Is bowling good exercise for me? What type and how much exercise would you suggest for me?
Any further advice?
