This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of July, 1938, in accordance with request made by the wife - Mrs. [301], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., and appointment verified by his sister, Mrs. [457].

In the office Time of Reading of …, 11:00 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y., N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [282]; this we have had before.

2. As we find, more than the physical reactions that occur with the body must be taken into consideration - if there will be brought the normal reactions for this body in the present experience.

3. We find that from and through the highly sensitive and nervous conditions, owing to material as well as mental reactions, there are incoordinations between the impulses and the physical activities.

4. These produce MENTAL reactions of an UNUNIFORM or of an exaggerated nature within the mental and physical bodies.

5. If there would be brought anything near to normalcy, there must be not only a change of environment, a change of scenes, but a change of thought as well.

6. If there will be a great change wrought in the physical and in the environmental forces of the body, and under the new environs the low electrical forces Wet Cell Appliance] applied for the creating of the better vibratory forces, with suggestive therapeutics - or mental suggestions for the body applied - these as we find would bring the normal forces and near to normal reactions through this body.

8. (Q) Does entity’s physical condition have any bearing on his present behavior? (A) Rather the mental reactions and the nerve strain produce much of the physical condition, see? Hence as we find, only with a change of environ, a change of scene, a change of outlook - and THEN the applications for a better physical coordination by the low electrical forces with suggestive therapeutics - may there be brought the better influences for the body.

9. (Q) Would a trip to Europe, where he would be with his parents and sisters, be beneficial - and could all suggestions be carried out there? (A) As we find, this would be MOST advantageous if there will be the INSISTENCE that the suggestive therapeutic treatments as well as the low electrical forces be applied.

The low electrical forces may be applied in the MAGNETIC manner - or there may be used the low electrical force; and these as we find may ONLY be OBTAINED in that land!

10. (Q) What part should wife take in the solution of this problem? (A) In the insistence or in the desire to help in making possible the creating of the environs for the better mental and physical forces of the body.

11. (Q) Would placing entity on a farm restore his balance? (A) Not as we find; unless there is an entire change of environs and outlook, as WELL as the application of those suggestive forces and the low electrical forces, to CLOSE as it were the centers through the system to the influences from without - which naturally produces a softening of the reaction between the impulses of the nerve forces themselves.

12. (Q) What line of work is entity fitted for, or will be, when he is normal again? (A) Any that would have to do with the sale or distribution of those influences or forces that would have to do with building up or beautifying a home.

13. (Q) In the magnetic treatment, just where on the body should this be applied? (A) Solar plexus. It may be worn or applied when the body rests, or worn there when the body is awake, see?

14. (Q) Just what is this appliance? (A) Magnetic appliance!

15. (Q) Any other suggestions? (A) These as we find would be those to bring about the nearer normalcy for this body.

Of course, it is necessary that all that atmosphere of fear be eliminated. This may be done the better by not only the prayers of others, but the acting towards the entity and the working in the same manner that they pray!

Ye desire consistency, normalcy in the reactions of the body! Then there must be THAT acted, and THAT lived by those seeking same for the body!

R1. 7/7/38 EC’s letter to [282]‘s sister, Mrs. [457]: ”…I just wonder if this is not what was referred to in the first Reading we had for [282], when the Appliance with Gold was recommended [282-1]. We do not understand all these things until sometimes it is too late it looks like…”

R2. 7/17/38 [282]‘s mother, [255]‘s letter to HLC from Germany: ”…We received copy of the splendid Reading for [282]. I hope now to hear soon of his coming to us. I know that among these beautiful surroundings he would soon build up. And then I believe Dr. Zeileiss of Galspach will be the right man for electrical treatments. He has a big treatment laboratory, no sanitarium. He diagnoses in his own way. Have an idea it is somewhat like Dr. Abrams. I know his treatment is through vibration. His son is a graduate medical doctor. Dr. Zeileiss himself is rather a mystery man. Wonderful cures have taken place.

“[282]‘s condition is due to inharmony and worry. As you know, I saw it coming. [301] could not realize that he [282] was not well. Now that it has come to a crisis, I know, that problem too will dissolve. Just as it says in one of Emmet Fox’s booklets, as we enter the path of Truth we have all kinds of experiences, but as each problem is dissolved it is finished for good. So I regard this experience with [282].

“[452] went through quite some experiences too, now he has found himself. And so it will be with [282]. I know that certain centers had opened and they need to be closed. And if there is any overshadowing control, the first electrical treatment will shatter it. Then the healing can take place. Dr. Wickland [Carl A. Wickland, M.D.] used this method. He gave his patients a shock and then commanded the possessive entity to use the body of his wife. Thereupon he taught the entity and explained the situation. In this way both the entity and patient were released. Thank God, [282] has not had just this experience.

“As for ‘suggestive therapeutics’, I would appreciate an explanation. Is this done while he is asleep, - and by whom? The Reading does not speak of hypnosis. [282] KNOWS the law of Truth, he does not APPLY them. I am very happy that my cousin, the lawyer, had the idea of [282] coming here. Mrs. [509] approved very much and the Reading brought it out! [301] and all the rest feel the same way and we, too. When so many are in agreement, one knows positively it is just as it should be.

“We are all in fine health. [275] and [276] enjoy the bicycling immensely. [282] can ride with his father [378] in the mornings while the girls practice [their music]. And the Reading said that ONLY in Germany would [282] have this treatment. Now I know, too, why I am here! Very interesting! Life is very wonderful, if one could always remain impersonal. But I am learning my lesson! And someday hope to graduate from the school of Life. In the meantime, I had my answer this morning when I opened my Bible to ‘Eye hath not seen, [etc.,] the good God has in store for us.’ My love to you all…”

R3. 8/3/38 HLC’s letter to [282]‘s mother, Mrs. [255], in Germany: ”…I saw a good deal of [282] before leaving New York in the spring. He was a deep concern and I am so glad that he is with you and will be able to secure the electrical treatments which he needs. As you point out it is a glandular condition related to the various psychic centers of the body. Our hopes and prayers will be with you.

“The work here continues to be a series of daily miracles.

“It is still my plan to attend Duke this fall to do some work under McDougal and Rhine, and bring the work to their attention. [GD’s note: In the fall of 1938 HLC was busy with his radio program on Station WOR, New York City, called MYSTERIES OF THE MIND.]

“The current Research Report on Tuberculosis of the blood will be of considerable interest to you. It is being mailed with the August Bulletin.

“Give my regards to all the family and tell [275] and [276] that I am looking forward to that letter on the entire foreign situation.

“All are well and send their love…”

R5. 1/3/39 [282]‘s mother, [255] wrote that he had been taking magnetopath treatments all along and was very much better:

”…I met a Dr. Gerda Walther the other day at a Psychological meeting, a Club that combines Truth with Research. Through her we heard of a doctor, a student of Dr. Jung’s, a psychiatrist. They make a specialty of the study of dreams, - of which [282] has quite a number. In fact he had quite a nightmare some time ago. So this will probably be our next step. This week he is having his teeth attended to. One tooth may have to come out, it has been very infected.

“[301] writes lovely letters, which has done its share towards the healing. God grant that experience, too, will dissolve soon in perfection.

“Dr. Walther is a foreign correspondent for magazines on Spiritual subjects. She is going to spend an afternoon with me soon, then I am going to tell her all about your work…”

R6. 2/24/39 See [282]‘s sister’s Reading, 457-5, Par. 13-A, 17-A, in re [282]‘s physical condition and possibility of it being inherited from insanity strain in their father [378]‘s side of the family. The Reading stated that the warning had been given in 282-1 and 282-2, but had not been heeded. [The Wet Cell Appliance had not been used!]

R7. 3/1/39 See [282]‘s sister [457]‘s letter under 457-5 Reports, in regard to [282].

R8. 3/1/39 [282]‘s mother, [255]‘s letter from Germany to EC: ”…[282] of his own accord suggested a Reading, which I was very happy about. Of course, I have not shown him the one from last June [282-8].

“He had treatments all August through December from a woman magnetopath, and he is entirely different from when he arrived. I am glad he entered upon the suggestion to leave the type of reading to Hugh Lynn, Gladys and you. [282] at first wanted a Check-Life reading, but I feel it should be more on Mental and Spiritual, but I, too, leave it to you…

“He paid a visit to Dr. Gustav Heyer, a friend of Dr. Jung’s, and the Doctor told me when I went back that [282] was very intelligent, time was a factor. There is a sexual repression, but he is no urgent case of any description; that he needs to get away from me and work for his living. Dr. Heyer used to use hypnotism but has used very little of that method recently and wants to awaken [282] consciously. At my second visit I spoke about the Reading and your work, and he was very much interested. I then sent him [282]‘s Reading [282-8], my Life reading, [255-5], and [53-1]. To date I have not heard from him. [282] is to go back there after an interval of 4 or 6 weeks. We have no copy of [282]‘s Life reading [282-2], I am sorry to say. So I only could tell him of the warning contained in it of ‘ideas’ and to stick to ideals. I sent Dr. Heyer a copy of your life booklet too. He promised to send all back to me.

“Dr. Gerda Walther, who writes for different magazines and prepared Schrenck-Notzing’s books for publication, told me Dr. Heyer was the biggest authority I could consult for [282]. The Dr. asked [282] to read one of his books and it is a wonderful treatise on the handling of different conditions. I told him, too, about the case Dr. Dobbins had treated [1513?]. So, [282]‘s Reading now is going to be valuable in many directions. I am looking forward to it. I know much has been accomplished, even if there is still more to be done.

“I have nothing to add to [282]‘s questions, unless you ask about whether his parents, or mother, can help him in his divine expression. I leave that to you, too…”
