This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of January, 1931, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [255].

1. EC: Yes. (speaking in undertone) Some peculiar circumstances surround the advent of this entity into the experience in the present time.

2. In entering this experience, we find the entity - [255] - coming under the influence of Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mercury, with those helpful influences that may be had coming from Neptune. These build for those inclinations that make for a very unusual experience for the entity in this present period.

3. In the influences, WITHOUT respect the application of will these are given - and many have been the alterations, yet the greater portion in the present, especially in the period of the twenty-eighth to the twenty-ninth year, there has been a constant development through the application of will as respecting these impulses, innate and manifested.

4. In Venus, then - love, beauty; symmetrical forces in the body, the body mind, in the development of those conditions and things about the body; order, and versatility in the order of conditions.

5. In those influences in Uranus, these have been more those of the exceptional side; while there would arise those conditions that make for indecisions in others, the stamina or stability of the entity - and its application of the influences - has made the entity one to whom many have come, do come, for counsel; yet in part the entity depends upon others. This, however, is kept in a manner that would be little suspected, so that even those who were to meet the entity casually, to observe, would say “sufficient in self.”

6. In Jupiter - the nobleness of purpose, the varied experiences of the entity in many fields - and especially in that WITH Uranus, brings those of the spiritual side of life, and especially of the motive forces, and those that would keep a physical body clean for an expression of universality of force that may be manifested through an entity, in little or even menial experiences; for the entity is one - through this relationship - that brings much of that as a lesson from each experience.

7. In Neptune we see something again of the methodical life, in a MYSTIC manner. Be not too mindful of mysticism, unless weighed well WITH those influences in love and nobleness.

8. In these manners do the influences astrologically have their effect upon the entity.

9. This, then, builded as respecting the relationships, as the entity has made these impulses, with the environmental and the influences to which the entity has been heir through its experience, as well as maternal relationships:

10. One that is quick in activity, whether of thought or of circumstance to be met - whether this be of import or a passing fancy or notion.

11. One deft with the work of the hands, and the beauties of motion bring to the entity a satisfying of a something that the hands or the body must be used as a means of expression of the things felt from within. Hence the inclination to be helpful; mindful, careful of others, and the tendency to expend self’s interest in the affairs of others. Not a busybody, though the entity may be called so at times. One that is SINCERE in purpose, aim, and desire TO be of help.

12. Tenderhearted, the entity; oft in prayer, mindful of little details that pertain to individuals or individuals’ experience. Hence the entity is one that may read character, or characterize individuals, where the entity sees or knows something of their daily activities, their daily thought, their daily hands’ work, or the handiwork of the individual bespeaks to THIS entity that which the individual is attempting to express. Hence, in the study of that which is called (SCIENTIFICALLY) psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, or psychopathy, may the entity gain much that will ENABLE the entity to definitely, specifically, GIVE counsel and advice to those about the entity. Not in a manner that would indicate the desire for another to accord to the tenets or intents of the entity itself; rather these as SEEN by the entity are the experiences of another - and these being the conditions to be met, mindful, and knowing of them, each meets his own problems in accordance to the development of THAT body itself. In THAT manner may the entity aid the most.

13. In those conditions that pertain to the secular things of life - one that is not unmindful of the pleasant or pleasurable sides of a material life, yet these are not sought for FIRST within the entity’s experience, other than that which will aid the body to more perfectly manifest the various phases of a mental, a spiritual experience, for the greater development of individuals and self.

14. In the affairs of others, then, the entity may aid most as the counsellor, by the experience seen in the individual to whom the entity would address self; rather than a one-SIDED experience of self’s OWN experiences - though these oft be as the background.

15. In the appearances, and the effect these have upon the entity in the present:

16. In the one before this we find in that land known as The Fatherland, Germany] Germany:Alsace Lorraine?] and near that border of the mountain land. The entity then, in the name Swchegen, was during those periods when turmoils were in the land, and in that region where those peoples were in war against one another. The entity was of a household that was inter-between those peoples, and the entity harkened much to those conditions that passed as to political power, political position, to the power of INFLUENCE of individuals’ lives over their life through their tenure to those things given by others. The entity, then, was somewhat of an economic-culinary entity, with an eye single to conditions that pertained to relationships of people in varied stations of life. Hence the entity is a good dietician, unless becoming lopsided through harkening to experiences of others. That tested first in self is to the entity the sine qua non to the usage of that as given. In this experience the entity gained in the MENTAL being, yet NOT an excess gain in the full development - for the material conditions, circumstances of power, of position, rose most in the entity’s thoughts, through the harkening to those through which the entity gained the mental development. In the present we find that ability to be an excellent conversationalist, and innately acquainted with many subjects - even though the entity has not studied them. A good listener, as well as a good speech maker.

17. In the one before this we find in that period in the land now known as Greece, or in the isles thereabout. The entity was among those in the days of the sages of that land, that took note - though the portion of the entity’s sex was not taken to account, as in many periods - yet did the entity gain in the thought as gathered from many with whom the entity was associated in varied capacities. The body beautiful, sculpture, art, literature - these are the entity’s developing forces; for either in art or in expressions of forces in the body manifestations of beauty may one find an answer to MANY of those conditions that bespeak of the forces that manifest from an All Wise Intelligence to the Sons of Men. In this experience, in the name Perculisa, the entity gained and lost; gained most in the development of the spiritual portions of the entity; for in the thought and study of the period the entity lent MUCH to others in service, counsel, advice - both by precept and by ensample.

18. In the one before this we find in that land now known as the Egyptian, during that period when there were the reconstructive forces as to the rebuilding or the replenishing of man’s correlation of thought, and the studying of the relationships to individuals and the relationships to the universal or the divine from within. The entity was then among those who waited upon the priest in the temple, and ESPECIALLY as to those HANGINGS of the temple. The entity was among those who first wove the COLORED patterns or papyrus in the various tapestries, or in linen brocade. The entity still has an eye single to the PATTERNS of PECULIAR design, ESPECIALLY turning to those of the lotus and scarab, which were the forces that were considered in that experience. In the name Iszeiu, the entity gained throughout this experience, not only in the mental AND the cosmic or soul development but in the manifested way in which individuals were aided by the entity in the services rendered. Not merely as one of the temple attendants, but as a home maker - and many were the peoples gathered in those places, as the entity sought for the caring of the young that were without the care of the maternal or the mother love. In this experience many gathered from the entity’s labors the taking of State to care for individuals that made access into the experience; yet the entity fought hard in mental, in meeting in many places, to prevent this being accomplished by others. In the present, the love of family, the love of large friendships, the love of those experiences with the young, the babe, the debutante. All are as an experience to the entity, seeing something innately felt fulfilled in each individual.

19. In the abilities of the entity, and that to which it may attain, and how:

20. As seen, mental, spiritual and soul development have been as separate in the entity’s experiences. These correlated in that ideal of one force, from one source, in one service to God and man, will bring an understanding that may excel any of the entity’s developments thus far in the earth’s experience. In making for this, keep the eye single to service; for he that saveth a soul covereth a multitude of shortcomings. Ready for questions.

21. (Q) Is entity giving her best to her husband? [Mr. [378]] (A) Giving her best to her husband and household. Keep all sources of aid in that of an eye-single to the SOUL’s development.

22. (Q) How can entity come in closer thought relationship with oldest son, [452]? (A) In first ANALYZING the life of the son, in considering the needs of the body-mind and soul, and in guiding in the manner and way which has been given, other than that of “Because I say so, do it!”.

23. (Q) Could entity, her husband [378], son [488], daughters [275] and [276], develop better spiritually in California? (A) In the present surroundings, or near those who have the forces or sources, or contacts to the universal forces that the entity believes in; for he or she that receives a prophet in the NAME of a prophet RECEIVES a prophet’s reward. He or she that receives a sage in the name of the sage RECEIVES the sage’s reward. As to place, time, or when - these meet as they arise. We would not change MATERIALLY in surroundings; ESPECIALLY not to the west.

24. (Q) Itemize faults and potentialities of entity. (A) These have been outlined, in their various and varied experiences; for aided in one, abetted by another, these made one in purpose in the present may make the entity a daughter of the Most High. We are through.

R2. 2/3/31 She wrote: “I would appreciate it very much if I could have a combination rdg. I am also very much interested to know what advice from others is misleading to me, what regards diet. My Life Rdg. called me ‘lopsided’, which expression I thoroughly enjoy - but naturally would like to have explained. That answer will be most interesting.

“We are certainly enjoying your talks in the Virginia Beach news, cutting them out for future reference.

“Also we have a card on which are jotted down the questions the family is interested in, waiting for the promised visit from you. Each Life Rdg. seems to make life more interesting. No wonder we all felt so happy at the Cayce Hospital, since we seemed to have worked together for the common good in Egypt, in service to the divine. The intense feeling of having found something precious is entirely explained to me now.

“Son [282] ought to have an interesting Life Rdg. He will write to you personally. After his, daughter [457]‘s and daughter-in-law [301]‘s. We have lots of fun out of it all, too. Son [488] seems to be developing… Am looking forward to daughter’s rdg. 275-16. She seems to be getting better all the time. Daughter [276] asked for her Life Rdg. as a birthday gift.”

R6. 3/10/32 She wrote: “Believe it or not, I study until 1-2 in the morning and do not even notice it, in fact enjoy it! Nobody knows how much I appreciate the Forces for the good that it has been our privilege to experience the last few years.”

R7. 3/11/32 She requested SFG lessons [from the [262] series], saying: “My feelings are heart and soul with anything that pertains to Mr. Cayce’s work.”

R8. 12/9/32 She wrote: “The group rdgs. [262 series] are very wonderful, and I enjoy the monthly Bulletin, too. It is all so interesting and makes life so very much worth while.”

R9. 3/16/33 She wrote: “I have been going to hear a Hindu lecturer, a Dr. Bhagat Singh Thind. What he related about reincarnation was most interesting. They do quite some research work on this subject in India, it seems.”

R14. 7/20/33 Her daughter rec’d in meditation this interpretation of the Life Seal for Mrs. [255], which she also rec’d in meditation.

The moon represents motherhood, the star her six children, (six points), which is being cradled by the moon. The scarabs come from the Egyptian life, where they had a great fascination for her, and still do; and also represent her spiritual gifts which I can not mention, as they are latent, and may stop the development by telling what they are. The rays, and earth, represented by the … [symbol drawn here], show the forces that earth has absorbed from the heavens, and is now sending out, or throwing out, the power, back into life or space. The ball represents the almighty power that is in the earth which we do not (Meaning we people here on earth) have the knowledge of. As time progresses, more and more will be found out in regard to what mother earth harbors within her. The seven rays are mother’s husband and six children, that will all send out power and forces through mother, represented by mother earth, into space, or the life that is ahead of each one. The gravy dishes mean the, or rather represent the, art that your mother has made out of cooking and eating correctly.

I put myself to the service of God and let things COME. I do my best unto the day. Of course Mrs. Drouet (author of STATIONS ASTRAL) says, too, everybody must work. I will find the place God wishes me to fill.”

R32. 8/20/34 She wrote: “I am doing what my Egyptian rdg. said, Mr. Cayce. [See 255-12.] I have suffered, have developed, and am now trying day by day to apply what I have learned.”

R33. 3/16/35 She wrote: “Last night I heard Krishnamurti. He is a charming, small, modest individual. His lecture - well, the principles were right and all true and he lives it, I am sure, but he is on the intellectual plane and is thereby bound in teaching others. Also the Christ message is miss- ing. Naturally he cannot, therefore, be the teacher that he would have the possibilities for. His English is fluent, musical, - magnificent oratory. He has a perfect control of words and is a big soul. He is living at [442]‘s. Mrs. [443] is with her daughter in Hawaii.”

“Life is so glorious if we can only get ourselves out of the way and ‘let God do it.’ Mr. [378] joins me and the family to send you our thoughts, affirming love, strength, success and prosperity for you and yours.”

R41. 8/10/37 Mr. [257]‘s ltr. to EC: “I spent some time with Mrs. Lydia B. Koch who has invented a machine to build paper bottles for milk. Mrs. [255]‘s son [282] introduced me, but I told him I would not interest myself unless they got a rdg. from you. They tried to put the burden of the rdg. on us, but I told him I would not consider it unless I heard from you. There is no question that there will be millions of bottles used and we might get ourselves into it and get part of the returns. They have spent $800,000 so far. You will note the enclosed letter from [282]. [See 282-2, Par. R12.] Let me know what you think about it.”

R42. 8/17/37 EC’s reply: “I note the letter from [282]. It must be quite a proposition Mrs. Koch has. I wouldn’t want to undertake a rdg. unless they were not only agreeable but a part of the request. I think that is where we often get only a very biased view of a proposition. Saul surely did not look very imposing to the elders of Israel looking for his father’s asses, yet he came home anointed king. It took him three years, though, to make himself felt in that role, and he evidently ruined his disposition doing it - judging from the final outcome. So, with many propositions we see just a phase of it and think we have a perspective of the whole when we don’t, from a one-sided approach.”

R43. 10/5/37 Mrs. [255]‘s letter to EC: “Two yrs. ago I met Lydia B. Koch. She has invented a wonderful milk bottle of paper. Son [282] took Mr. [257] there, but materialistic people cannot see it. It has been built up entirely by prayer and vibrates too high. The return is going to be phenomenal; it is open only a short time yet. The pint machine is working, the quart machine being built. The pint size is being shipped to D.C., Newark and upstate. The smallest investment is 300, which will bring at least 1000 a yr. income. The mayonnaise, chocolate drink people, even Standard Oil, are all just waiting for the bottom part. She is a wonderful woman, has been in Truth 30 yrs; has demonstrated $15,000 the last few months entirely on prayer. We have spent many happy hours together. She has no relatives, so her share will go to seven color temples in different parts of the world…

“If you or anybody could go into it, it would be wonderful. Have a rdg. on it, as it is a product of the Spirit. Most of the ideas were her own inspiration coming through and now guarded by 100 patents. I have done the ‘work’ now with quite a number of people and the sum has always demonstrated in remarkable ways. So place it in God’s hands. I told no one in the beginning 2 yrs. ago, but in the meantime the pint bottles are selling, so now all should know whom I can tell.”

R48. 4/16/38 Mrs. [255] told Hugh Lynn that she had some money in Germany, inherited, which she could only get by going over there to live on it, so she and her husband [378] and two younger children, daughters [275] and [276] were going to Germany for an indefinite stay. [Later her son [282] joined them.]

R54. 10/8/41 Daughter [457]‘s letter: “Haven’t heard from my family for a long time. Guess it is more difficult to get letters through now.”

R55. 5/6/43 EC dreamed of the family in Germany, each one, saying “Mrs. [255] had a breaking out all over her body…they were in an awful state.”

R56. 1/25/44 Mrs. [255]‘s son-in-law [412] wrote from N.Y: “From the other side, we have not heard for quite some time. We did receive a Red Cross letter telling us that they are well and we did not need to worry.”

R57. 8/7/44 He wrote: “I sincerely hope that by the time we will meet again, the European end of the war will have dissolved itself and that we may have some good news from our dear ones on the other side.”

R58. 5/22/45 Mrs. [255] wrote from Germany [Rec’d 7/5/45]: “One of our first letters is to you. It all seems like a long disagreeable dream and it is difficult to realize that we will soon be free to return home.”

R59. 8/29/46 Her son-in-law [412]‘s letter to GD: “The purpose of this letter is to let you know that the family is expected to arrive here this week-end. We have been doing a lot of work in getting our home ready for them where they will stay until such time as they find other living quarters.”

R60. 9/23/46 She reported on members of the family, saying: “We long for the country, for a garden, flowers, bees, chickens and peace around us. We, especially, feel the vibrations of city life very much.”

R61. 10/26/46 She wrote Hugh Lynn: “We all took a liking to …

County, Pa. We have about an acre of ground and frontage on a main highway, which means that a bus stops right at our door and we can get along without a car… The town has no industry, is entirely residential, and we have a feeling that the atmosphere is very clean in the whole countryside. We all will be able to express ourselves in some way.

“I miss your dear parents, and Mr. Cayce’s rdgs. very much.”

R62. 2/19/47 She reported on rdgs. 378-50, 275-11 and 276-2, and subsequently on all the children and grandchildren, etc.

R63. 9/29/49 Hugh Lynn Cayce wrote her: “A Mr. Werner Zimmermann has written a booklet on Edgar Cayce to be published in Switzerland, in German [entitled LICHTBOTE]. I would like very much to have you look at it and make any suggestions regarding it that may seem helpful.”

R64. 10/20/49 She replied with helpful comments, adding: “Very fascinating, enjoyable reading.”

R65. 5/10/60 She wrote: “My dear husband passed on 5/7th from a stroke. The agony lasted less than 10 minutes. I had the God given privilege to be with him and to speak the word of release.” [See 378-50, Par. R30.]

R66. 10/8/62 She requested a Circulating File on high blood pressure, saying: “I want to do all I can to feel well. I want to be ACTIVE and save my two good girls any trouble… I love to help by keeping things neat in the sewing line, altho I am not able to do fine work. But life is so interesting.”

R67. 12/21/64 She wrote: “I always enjoy Albert E. Turner’s articles on reincarnation so much A.R.E. Searchlights]. Especially where he mentioned the rdg. about the Jews in Esther and the explanation of why they had to find their death under Hitler. That always troubled me. It was such a terrible thing. I never could understand that it could be deserved as karma.”

R68. 3/26/67 She wrote: “I have just received Jess Stearn’s book [EDGAR CAYCE - The Sleeping Prophet] and in the first few pages he mentions daughter [275] and myself [See details under 275-28 Par. R6.]…

“As for the dire prophecies, who knows but what the many prayer contacts with God from the sorrowing hearts of the women of the U.S. may not be the protection for Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York? In 1936 there was much talk beforehand, too, and nothing happened. Worrying about it is of do help, as I told my A.R.E. Study Group. The effect on some of the men was pitiful. It is a test of faith for all of us. Whatever happens is always for the best, whether we can see the positive in the negative or not. We go right on living, so nothing matters really; we are SOMEWHERES.

“Infra-red lamp and peanut oil give me a good night’s rest and are doing good work for walking.

“Loving thoughts go out to you, Hugh Lynn, which include your wife.” [She enclosed a contribution to the A.R.E. Children’s Camp.]

R69. 8/6/67 Daughter [275]‘s letter to GD: “This is an unusually busy time for you but we did want to contact you personally to ask you to please put Mother on your prayer list. It seems what we first thought was only a muscular condition has also turned out to be nerves, bothering her mainly in the back of her right shoulder, and painful. The specialist, that is treating her for a breast condition (which only we three sisters [[275], [276] & [457]] know about), said that her shoulder has nothing to do with it. We have searched through the ‘black book’ [I.R.F.] for hints to help mother, and in the June 1960 Supplement saw Eno Salts and Castoria mentioned, which we are now starting to use because her eliminations are a problem, as she needs to stay in bed. On page 203 [of the I.R.F. for Varicose Veins] it was suggested to take Mullein Tea, to bring down swellings in legs. Her left leg is swollen since about a week, so we started that today. [276] saw some mullein plants growing along a field on the way to a fruit stand today, and so we could make some fresh tea.

“We requested your Circulating File on nerves, or inflammation of the nerves, or something similar, but we haven’t rec’d it yet.

“But above all we know ‘God is the healer, and the Mind the builder’, and so we come to the A.R.E. Prayer Group for guidance and help.”

R70. 8/23/67 Mrs. [255] sent GD a copy of Lou Austin’s “You Are Greater Than You Know,” saying: “It has meant so much to me and the girls [[275] & [276]] while reading it and absorbing its philosophy, that I feel I must do all I can to spread the knowledge of it…Of course to someone who has done so much planning for her family in her lifetime, it is quite an experience to release everything but the moment in question, but I have found, and the girls with me, that ‘the Partner’ is always ready, with right action, and a seeming miracle.”

R71. 10/30/67 Her children announced:

“Our beloved mother, [255], passed on peacefully Saturday Afternoon, the 28th of October, 1967.

“There will be no funeral, since she has dedicated her body to the Anatomical Board of the State of Pennsylvania for scientific studies in one of the medical schools.

“Kindly do not send flowers. Anyone desiring to give a gift in her memory may send it to the Children’s Summer Camp of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451.”

R72. 10/31/67 Daughter [275] wrote HLC & GD:

“Mother’s transition was without pain. It was last Sat. [10/28/67] (and how thankful we are that she chose a day when we both could be easily at home) that she alternately dozed and spoke to us. Her mind was clear to the end. During the morning she said, ‘I am having such beautiful and encouraging dreams; I’ll tell you about it sometime.’ In the early afternoon she said, ‘Jesus is telling me so many wonderful things, that I want to pass on.’ And about two hours before she left her body she said, ‘I am taking astral flights to the planet Venus, all the time.’

“During the transition we asked her whether she was suffering and she shook her head, ‘No.’

“We want to thank you for your loving concern and prayers, which we know strengthened her in the leaving of this earth.

“We know how close she felt to Mr. Cayce, and how her heart lay in soul development and the A.R.E. work, so we felt that a fitting memorial would be something with the developing of your camp (and the future generation) in the mountains which she loved…

“How consoling it is to know that she is now free to be active again. Before her transition she was already off to other planets and places.”

R73. 11/3/67 Letter from the Sec’ty of the … A.R.E. Study Group:

“Our group is sending to A.R.E. a donation in memory of Mrs. [255] of …, Pa. It was her wish that contributions go toward the meditation program of the children’s camp.

“Mrs. [255] will be missed by our entire group. She was the backbone of our group when we started, and she taught us many things, including how to pray, and the importance of being thankful for our blessings. When she became too ill to attend our meetings, we taped our discussions and sent them to her. Sometimes she sent back a tape in reply, and this we played at our next meeting.

“She certainly was, and is, a very special person. We may miss her physical presence, but I am sure she is nearby to help us from the other side.”
