This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of Sept., 1931, in accordance with request made by her parents, Mr. [282] and Mrs. [301] - and by her grandmother, Mrs. [255].

Born August 30, 1931, (Sunday, 6:11 P.M.), at the Osteopathic Hospital, Philadelphia, Penna. Time of Reading 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, and those relations with the universe and universal forces as are - and WILL be - manifest in the present experience of the entity.

2. In the naming, when all associations, relations, are considered, should be [299]. [EC named the baby.]

3. In entering, we find the entity comes under those influences of Venus, Jupiter, Uranus, and in these respects there will be the necessity of the well BALANCED diversion for the entity AS its personality in the present experience develops.

4. This entity in this experience, as we find, will be unusual; not only to the parents, in this experience, but to others. Not strange, not curious, but UNUSUAL in its unfoldment IN its present surroundings; and during those years two and a half to four will be the periods when the greater care must be exerted as respecting its PHYSICAL, MENTAL, developments in the present.

5. In Venus will be seen that of affection on the part of the entity, and with decided likes and dislikes that will apparently of UNSEEMING ways which, unless guided in its proper manner, may make for that of a selfish and haughty air in the DEVELOPING to maidenhood and young womanhood; yet guided in a manner, not as of breaking the will, nor yet of letting the developing mind have its own way, but KNOWING that, that which may be cute or becoming in a developing mind, that grown to seed would be hauteur or selfishness, or that of any development in such a manner well to be curbed in REASON.

6. In Jupiter, as will be seen, beauty of face, figure, and mind. These will naturally, with the incoming influence, make for one that will be inquisitive, and seeking to know the REASON, which - while not unusual ORDINARILY in a child or a DEVELOPING one - will be unusual to a marked degree in THIS entity as for CAUSES, as well as reason; making, then, those precautions that those who give answers to the seeking and developing mind give those that are an answer IN Truth as NEAR as IS possible to be done, under any and all circumstance! This, as will be seen, will make for a development that will make apparent one ever OLD for its year, and years, yet the BEAUTY in the ABILITIES of the entity will repay all that are associated with same in the beauty of the life, in the development of the mental forces, in the ABILITIES of the entity in many - or all - directions. Hence nature, nature’s activities, should be that as will ENABLE the body, physically, mentally, to ask its questions. Developing in a MODERATE manner the athletic body will aid in its better development in the physical and mental body, and unfoldment also.

7. In Uranus will make, as will be seen, those periods in the entity’s development when there will be moods, temper will be expressed and manifest in its activities. Well that those visions, also those tendencies for visions of seeming exaggeration by the entity in such periods, be NOT curbed; rather made note OF, studied WITH the entity as its UNFOLDMENT in MENTAL developments shows in its activities. Colors, to be sure, will affect the body often. Hence those of modes and violet would be well to have more OFTEN ABOUT the body, as WELL as those shades of BLUE that will make for a more EVEN development in the entity’s activities.

8. Being in the Sabbath child, AS given, there will be those of the QUESTIONING often as to the variations in tenets held by those about the entity. Hence in that environ as will be seen, in which the developments for and OF the entity most often came, will bring that BEAUTY IN the experiences of the entity for self and others, that will be most satisfactory. That, then, that has much of rote or ceremony, yet that that is an ENFOLDMENT and UNFOLDMENT of the love and bigness OF the SPIRITUAL life, the better environ for this developing entity.

9. In the appearances and their influence upon the present experience - the entity that that may be termed by the STUDENTS of psychological influences, or of psychopathic enfoldments, an OLD soul. Hence that tenderness WOULD those responsible for, those whose care the soul is with, SHOULD make in their activities WITH the budding of the soul’s awakening in this, a material and CHANGED world.

10. In the one then before this we find in that period when there were those dissensions, and those suppressions of the teachings in that land known as the Roman land. The entity then among the children of those that were persecuted WITH their sires during that period, yet finding favor with those that saw the oppressions the entity, while growing under an environ that meant the suppression of activity, gained AND lost during that experience. First known as Dafna, then changed in its environ and name to that of Sapina. In the present experience will be found, from that influence, that of the tendency of hauteur and moods, and that necessary influence then that must bring those of a very POSITIVE - yet loving - directings of the entity’s thoughts, as WELL as activities.

11. In the one before this we find in that land, that experience known as the Persian or Arabian Land, when there had been those developments in that land from those leading in a rebellion to the northern kingdom, and those had gathered about the leader. The entity then an associate of, a sister TO, its OWN [present] MOTHER - in the NAME Melene. In this experience the entity developed throughout. The entity became one of a MUSICIAN of FAME, even in this plain. In the development the entity applied those tenets that were given in that period to MUSIC, that it brought from the plains to those surroundings, that of the joy in service of one to another; becoming a healer in the latter experience through the laying on of hands, in song and in the chants as were made by the entity and its associates. In the present, with those directing influences, may the entity - in those of stringed instruments - bring AGAIN those of the shepherd song, again those of the mountain song, in rain, in sunshine, in the various activities in nature. Hence those directing influences will bring that awakening that will bring joy, harmony, peace, loving understanding, to self and many.

12. In the one then before this we find in that land now known as the Egyptian land, and following those periods when there were the rebuilding and the activities of those that gave the understanding to many of the tenets in that period. The entity then was among those that came in the household of the priest Ra-Ta?] during that period, being then in the latter days an EMISSARY to the various peoples that that land took, or undertook, to disperse those teachings to. The entity again a musician in reeds, and a worker in fine linens; yet a one of note in SONG during that period. In the name Del-lli. In the present there will be seen that art that pertains to linens, cloths, or those of bas-reliefs, will be of interest to the entity; and - guided aright - may the song of the inner self be awakened, as was in that experience.

13. As to the abilities, and that to which it may attain, and how:

14. As is seen in the unfoldment of a life, a soul, in each experience - that to which it may ATTAIN depends upon that which is builded in its formative years as its personality. It either conforms to the ideals of its individuality, or is changed to become something apart - bringing adversities and contention when made separate. When made one with that which is as continuity of Life and Force as manifests itself in the earth through the influences of the DIVINE, as through the Son, do the blessings come; as was said, “SUFFER little children to come unto me, for of such is the KINGDOM of heaven,” that “He that offends one of these, my LITTLE ones, has offended me indeed.” Keep, then, inviolate, its experiences. Thrust not thine own dominion, yet teach, train the little one to know, in HIM is peace and understanding, in Him is the way for all earth - as in heaven - to know the JOY of BEING alive! Ready for questions.

15. (Q) Describe faults in present life and give guiding advice to parents for correction. (A) As has been given. These may be developed from influences. These depend upon the activities of those in the directions as has been outlined.

16. (Q) Describe talents, and if there is one for music, name instrument. (A) As has been given, STRINGED instruments.

17. (Q) In what church should entity be baptized and taught? (A) As HAS been outlined. In the church of the fathers, the better.

18. (Q) For what field of service in this incarnation should entity be prepared? (A) As has been outlined, there are varied fields - as may be seen by the consideration of the abilities, and that to which the entity has attained. Either in that of the field as of the TRAINER for others, or in that of the AID to others, in ITS ability to bring HEALING to others.

19. (Q) What years will make periods of greatest development of entity in this incarnation? (A) Two and a half to four and a half years. Then again there will occur in the thirteenth to the fourteenth year.

20. (Q) What years should parents be warned as containing hazards to be guarded against? (A) Two and a half to four years.

21. (Q) Has this entity been associated with [282] or [301], its present parents, in other incarnations? (A) As has been given, it has. [9/8/31 Father’s Ck. R1. 9/5/31 EC’s wire to Mrs. [301]: “Congratulations on arrival of little [new name [299]]. Reading being mailed.

R2. 9/5/31 EC’s ltr. to Mr. [282] and Mrs. [301]:

“With the receipt of Mrs. [255]‘s ltr., I felt possibly the greatest responsibility I ever experienced in attempting to give a rdg. After what they told me, I couldn’t help but wire you the name that had been given. I am just wondering how much or how little this will conform to your idea of her name. I am hoping it will be in keeping with EVERYTHING. Having experienced what it means for the first little one to be entrusted to one’s own care and keeping, I know what that life means to you both, and also the importance of its naming. After reading the Life Rdg. throughout it SEEMS to me plausible, reasonable, and right [using a part of the mother [301]‘s and grandmother [255]‘s name]. I am at a loss for words to tell you just how I feel about it all. I’ll be anxious to hear from you about it. You don’t know how much I appreciate the responsibility. While I realize it ISN’T me, yet to be responsible - as the channel through which such information comes - carries its awe-inspiring feeling at such a time. We will be anxious to know how she develops, and we will want you to let us hear from you just as often as you find it possible. We will be just as interested in the days when she finds her hands, when she begins to smile, as it is possible for people to be. Most of all, as to how colors, music, lights and shadows, affect her.

R3. 10/11/31 Mother [301]‘s ltr. to EC:

“We are using the name [299] just as the rdg. suggested, and everyone seems to like it very much.

“[299] is six weeks old today and is weighing 10 lbs. and 4 ozs., a gain of 2 lbs. 11 ozs., so you see she is getting along fine. She has very large blue eyes and, oh so much red or golden hair which we hope will be curley. She has grown two inches in length making her 21 inches long, and the doctor and nurses think she will be a very tall girl.

“Enclosed is a picture of Tante [275] and [299] taken last Fri. p.m. Perhaps you can set a small idea of what she looks like. She is so fat, she hardly has any neck as it is all double chin.

“She has been able to hear and see for about two weeks. She has smiled but not laughted, and so far she has not found her hands, although she grabs and holds things.

“[282] and I want to thank you for the lovely telegram, and you have no idea the strange feeling that came over me when I read it. It sounded odd that you should be congratulating us on the arrival of [[299] by name] when we didn’t even know it ourselves. Guess that doesn’t happen very often.

“We were very happy that you could give her rdg. so soon, as we had to decide on her name 10 days after birth because of Pa. laws.

“Thanking you again for all the interest you have shown in [299], [282] and myself,” Love (Your one time daughter) [301]

R4. 10/19/31 Grandmother [255]‘s ltr.: “[299] DOES look more intelligent than other children of the same age, - and that is NOT an opinion of a doting grandmother - although I can almost FEEL your smile! You know the reading SAID so.”

R5. 1/3/33 Mother [301]‘s ltr.: “[299] enjoyed Christmas very much this year, not her toys but the manger at the foot of the Christmas tree.”

“She tries very hard to talk and says ‘daug - oof-oof’ and ‘lo, bye, Da-Da,’ and once in a while ‘Mom-mom.’ I think from the way she says dog she is going to talk Southern. Ha! ha!.”

R6. 1/10/33 EC’s letter to “Dear [301], [282] and [299]:”

Many thanks for yours of the 3rd. It seems we all have been so busy since Christmas, or so disturbed one way or another, that we have hardly had time to do any of the things we would like to do. I certainly do regret that my correspondence suffers when I am not feeling so physically fit.

As you no doubt know, we had to make a hurried trip to New York during the holidays; some special appointments or people to meet. Of course, to be different, I had to get sick. So, when Gertrude and Miss Gladys came up it was only to bring me home that evening; so they were there only a few hours, you might say; consequently, we didn’t have the opportunity to get any of you on the phone, though we tried at least once - but we were very busy. Possibly I had no business undertaking any readings, for I was so full of cold and have certainly been suffering ever since. We are hoping, though, for better things.

I’m sure [299] enjoyed her Christmas. She certainly is a wonderful and beautiful artist’s model. We recognized the picture on the magazine. The card you sent is beautiful, and we appreciate it very much. She will soon be talking, for she will gradually begin to put the words together.

The other day I had a rather an unusual experience that I am sure will be of interest to you, especially if you remember how [299] looked at me when I was there last and was quite willing for me to hold her. While sitting in the barber shop here at the Beach, the barber’s little two year old boy [Robert H. Tarrah [“Bobby”]] was playing around the floor eating some wafers. The child could talk quite plainly. While I was getting my hair cut, he looked up at me and said, “I know you.” He handed me a cake, asking me if I wasn’t hungry; I told him no. The father said, “Why you don’t know Mr. Cayce, you’ve never seen him before.” He said, “Oh yes,I have! We were together on a big river, in a boat, and we were both hungry then!” The father didn’t know what to think, or say. It certainly does make us wonder; for it fits so well with the information in my life reading as to the period before this when I was on a big river and certainly must have been quite hungry for some time. [See 294-8.] The child may have been so close that he could see back. I would certainly love to get a life reading on him, but I don’t know how even to approach the parents.

I was sure this experience would be interesting to you, as well as to Mrs. [255] and some of the others.

I am glad that your mother is better, [301], but sorry she was not able to make the trip for the holidays; hope she will be able to be with you sometime in the near future.

R7. 4/19/69 GD’s note: I saw Bobby Tarrh at [Clyde Gayle’s Texaco] today and he said he remembered being told of the experience. He was about two and half yrs. at the time, being born in June 1930. He remembers Mr. Cayce at other times very well, during his boyhood, as he was in HLC’s Boy Scouts Troop and spent much time around the Cayce home, EC’s fishing pier, etc. He gave me permission to use his name in recording above experience. It is interesting to me that Bobby’s parents moved to VB from Akron, Ohio several yrs. before Bobby’s birth. Above mentioned scene took place on the Ohio River.

R8. 3/15/33 Parents obtained Ck. Physical 299-3 for her, and 299-4 on 4/14/34. [Baby-sister [314] was born 4/18/33.]
