This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of March, 1933, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [288], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis.]
Time of Reading 4:00 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Va. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: We have the body here. Now, as we find, the general physical forces of the body are much improved from that as when we last had same here. While, to be sure, there is a great deal of disturbance through the digestive system and nausea, and poor external circulation; showing a tendency for a deep circulation rather than external or superficial circulation, but in the present, if there will be kept the feet warm, keeping out of the damp or night air, and taking those properties as to cleanse the system thoroughly and to stimulate the circulation in all portions of the body, we should find, within one to two days, this condition disappearing. Then be mindful that there is kept a better equal balance, better coordination in all the activities of the body.
-
In the evening, then, we would take those of Alophen, with at least ten grains of Aspirin and a good swallow of Spirits Frumenti to make for a stimulation to the whole capillary circulation.
-
We would also bathe or massage the feet with anything that will make for a stimulation to the circulation to the extremities.
-
Also we would take occasionally that which has been given as the expectorant, [288-32, Par. 10, 11] or for the cold or congestion in lungs, and add to same occasionally one to two grains of Calcidin - which will stimulate the circulation now from the lungs.
-
Then, be well by Wednesday! [See 288-33, Par. R1.]
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What makes the body so hungry all the time? (A) The desire for the resuscitation of the circulation, or the need of blood in the body. It’s about ten million below normal in the red blood supply!
-
(Q) What advice regarding this condition? (A) As given, when there has been the cleansing of the congestion from the properties given, and the circulation stimulated by the acid in the active force of the properties taken with the Spirits Frumenti stimulating the circulation, carrying the circulation not only to the digestive forces of the body but to the whole portions of the body, stimulating the lung circulation with those properties to keep an even balance in the foods, see? Don’t eat a lot one day and nothing the next! Don’t overeat at one period and then eat things known to be harmful to the body at the next, see? but keep a coordinating balance. One that is blood and nerve building. Eat some meats! and some of those of all the properties that require roughage, or the activity of the system to digest them - all such properties!
-
(Q) Should the vibrator be continued? (A) We didn’t say discontinue it, did we? Then it’s to be continued!
-
(Q) How long at a time? (A) One, three, four, five weeks at a time, if so desired.
-
(Q) How long at each treatment? (A) Hour, or hour and a half. Whatever is necessary to bring about proper condition, if it takes one minute or an hour, or two hours, do it! if you’re interested in what you’re trying to do! It’s to relax the body, whether it requires a minute or a week, or an hour! [Par. 11-A was for the member of the family who had been applying the vibrator to [288]. Having applied it daily for almost a week she perhaps was getting tired and thought she could let up a bit.]
-
(Q) What would you suggest to use to massage the feet with? (A) Anything! Hot water is very good. Anything that will bring the circulation. Grease of any kind - but don’t get it all over everything! Use consistency with whatever is necessary. Camphorated oil, turpentine, grease of any nature - ANYTHING that brings the circulation. Salt, soda - anything!
-
That is all the questions regarding this body.
-
See, the one dose of those properties to eliminate should be sufficient. If it isn’t found to be, then take others - but only one of this in this way as given. The Alophen, with ten grains of Aspirin and a good swig of Spirits Frumenti - but go to bed when it’s taken!
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. GD’s note: In re Par. 5: The rdg. 288-33 was on 3/6/33, a Monday. It was reported that she followed the treatment that night and it worked like magic. Indeed [288] was completely well by Wednesday.
Later several other people tried the overnight dose for a severe cold with good results. This is the dose Thomas Sugrue referred to on page 287 of THERE IS A RIVER in re the common cold.
R2. 5/29/33 She obtained 288-34 for nausea and a skin rash.
R3. 9/26/33 See her testimonial letter at Par. R6 below.
R4. 12/17/34 She wrote: “I took a dreadful cold on the bus and didn’t feel well for several days after getting back from my trip, but I got my reading out [288-33] and followed the treatment given for a similar condition. I’m okay now.”
R5. 9/20/37 She obtained Ck. Physical 288-43 for severe cold, saying she had already taken the treatment in 288-33 with good results.
R6. 9/26/33 Testimonial letter from Miss [288] was used as a report on her case in the 10/33 Oct. Bulletin of A.R.E.:
RECENT PHYSICAL READING: Last winter I had a slight attack of the “flu”, which left my system in a weakened state, but I did not think my condition serious enough to have a reading. However, in the early spring I began to suffer from a severe cough which disturbed me so at night that I couldn’t sleep; my chest became sore from coughing. And when I began to cough up blood I became alarmed and asked for a check reading. This reading stated, “The hepatic eliminations have become below normal, so that the circulation is slowed through the lungs, making for a tendency of congestion there of a nature that is not good.” It advised a more blood building diet, gave a prescription of three capsules to act upon the liver, an expectorant or cough syrup (giving each ingredient), and the vibrations from an electrically-driven vibrator over the dorsal and cervical region to stimulate the centers leading to the lungs. IMMEDIATELY, upon using the expectorant, my pain in throat and chest was eased. In three days, with following the whole treatment, I felt like a different person; the cough was gone entirely; and within a week I bad almost forgotten that I had been sick. With following the suggestions for blood and nerve building I have kept well and in perfect health ever since.
I hope others who are contemplating appealing to Mr. Cayce for help will do so before it is too late; for, ‘A stitch in time saves nine.’ We all know that, but I have proved it in regard to my own condition. I could give many instances in between these dates when I have through “reading” suggestions prevented and cured conditions in my body which I have seen in others result in most serious illnesses, sometimes operations; while I have had the wonderful opportunity and privilege of receiving help in time to prevent such. [288-12; 288-23, etc.]
