This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of [900], …, New York City, this 1st day of October, 1928, in accordance with request made by self - Edgar Cayce.

Time of Reading 5:20 P. M. …, Va.
-
[900]: Now you will have before you the body of EC, present in this room and the enquiring mind of this body and the dream this body, EC, had sometime ago. You will interpret this dream and give the lesson to be gained from this. You will tell us of the experience that EC had in which he heard one that sounded like the name Habakkuk talk to him about [900]. You will tell us what was said, who it was that spoke and explain what was meant and intended.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, EC. This we have had before.
-
Oft has it been given the body that those visions and dreams which come to the body should be applied in the light of, and in the daily affairs of the body and those about him respecting those phenomena being taught, or concerning which the preparations are being made, for the propagation of thought. Yet there is laxness in these considerations.
-
Well, my son, would it be that these be considered as precepts and taken more to the peoples who would learn of me through those channels given thee in thine self to give an understanding of the relations which exist especially respecting continuity of life and its relations and revelation to mankind, and the infinite energy respecting that lesson given by mine servant, Habakkuk. This is that lesson which was seen. Tell [900] to pattern much after that given in the lessons by Habakkuk, not his lamentations respecting filial conditions, nor of a lost peoples, but rather the good tidings that are in store for those who will listen to that which comes form within, and that there may be known that the rod of Israel has not departed from Jesse nor has Shiloh failed in its promise to Judah. In this keep thy hand.
-
(Q) Will you explain just what is meant by a certain laxness on the part of Cayce and how [900] may better cooperate to fulfill this educational and revealing purpose. (A) Laxness in following the lessons given through vision and dream, and not mindful of those lessons given as to the betterment.
As to [900], this may be accomplished in that which would be given as a lesson in the message following the patterns of Habakkuk. Read same and in the study of same will come an experience such as has never appeared to the body as yet. For the glory of Him who gave Himself in ransom will spread about same. Be true.
-
(Q) Will you give us a little history of Habakkuk? (A) A minor prophet. His record is in the St. James version of that termed ‘Holy Scripture,’ which is a portion of the word that must be kept.
-
(Q) In what period did he live on earth? (A) As a minor prophet during the time of the return and known to the body as a builder. Palestine: Rebuilding of walls.]
-
(Q) That is, to the body of Cayce or [900]? (A) To that now called [900].
-
(Q) What is the name of the book in which we may study these writings and what should I eliminate? (A) Habakkuk. Eliminate the mourning against the falseness of women. Crown the glory of the message that makes all free. Study that.
-
(Q) Was this Habakkuk speaking to Cayce? (A) Speaking to Cayce.
-
(Q) What action should Cayce take, or is it just that he is to be more mindful of what is called the educational phase of the work and not feel that it is totally to do with the physical betterment of man? (A) Take the message as a whole. That laxness indicated in not being forewarned by the visions, nor in meting the same to those to whom messages are given. This should have had its understanding when given.
-
(Q) In other words, we should take our cue immediately from the cosmic plane that we are seeking to represent in our work? (A) And apply same. Use and gain the knowledge of same.
-
(Q) Then the experience of Cayce the other night, the night before last, when he heard a noise drop on the floor and felt the presence of a cosmic entity whirling about him? (A) That, again, is the indication that, with the more perfect application of self, more and more, may be the direct communication or understanding of the oneness and continuity of force, or life, or existence of individuals through their various experiences.

We are through.

EC: Mother!
Mother is here - and you haven’t written Sister yet, and told her - Sister wouldn’t like it, Brother - and she’ll feel hurt! Write to Sister, tell her, and Sarah and Ola and Mary - they will all want to have a part, and they’ll feel just as you do - and after while when everything is straightened out it will be so nice for you all, to think that Mother will be right with you! Be a good boy. Write, Brother! Talk to Mother. Be good to Papa. He will be home before long. But write to Sister - and tell the children Mother loves them all.
R5. 10/29/28 GD’s note: On awakening EC remembered the above as a dream, but also his voice was heard saying these words; hence they are recorded as a psychic rdg.
The message refers to a fountain contemplated at entrance to Cayce Hospital, which EC had planned as a memorial to his mother. She was telling him that he should let the other children have a part in the memorial by contributing to the cost of it, etc. [See [254] series.] [EC’s mother: Carrie Elizabeth Major Cayce] [EC’s mother & sisters called him “Brother.”]
R6. 10/30/28 EC’s ltrs. to his sisters Ola & Mary:
Dear Ola [Crume]: I had been thinking of how we could in some way have something at the institution [the Cayce Hospital] in memory of Mother. I had planned that I would have a fountain in front, so I’d gone ahead to have the basin prepared for this. That same night (after they had begun work on it in the afternoon) Mother came to me [in a dream] and we went over the place together. Possibly it was a little bit of a selfish idea. I ought to have known that you would all want to have some part in it, for Mother was so anxious that I would be able to do something with it and to one day have the place. I was anxious for her to see the place and know it. Yesterday afternoon, unexpectedly, when we went to get a reading for someone else, this - the enclosed - came through. I wasn’t conscious of it, of course, and didn’t know until I was told; but if there had ever been any doubt about a presence being made known, I think this would clear it all away. Let me know what you think about it.
Certainly hope you and the baby both are feeling good. Pa hasn’t come back yet - guess he will be back next week. Kiss the baby for me, and love to Jerry and yourself and all, from all.
Brother
EC’s ltr. to his sister Mary [McPherson]:
Dear Mary:
Sister [Annie] no doubt will tell you about my experience, but I want you to know it too. You know how anxious I was to have a place where “the work” might be studied, not just in a haphazard way but seriously, and you know too how anxious Mother was that we should have it. I had often felt that I didn’t know whether I cared to succeed unless Mother knew it, but I know she knows! I had tried to plan something that would be in memory of Mother - the fountain, which is as the fountain of living water, which seemed to me the most appropriate thing for such a place, and I had thought I would put that. When I had gone about to have the basin prepared for this, for the first time [since she passed on] Mother came to me and talked, while I was asleep of course, and we went through the building. Possibly it was a little bit of a selfish motive, and I know Mother wouldn’t like that
- yet I didn’t want to burden any of you - but after the experiences yesterday - a copy of what was said I’m sending you, for I am sure you will know it was our Mother talking. I wasn’t conscious of it until after it was all over and the others told me about it. I want to go ahead and have this done. If you all want to send any little thing towards it, it’s alright - whether it’s little or much, or what - because I had planned, of course, to take care of it all myself, but I know now that you all want to be known in it anyway. Let me hear from you about it. Sister [Annie] will no doubt talk with you about what we would put on the little plate. Any suggestion you have to offer will be mighty nice.
Give my love to Will and the children. I know you are all glad to have Pa with you. Wish you all could come back with him.
With best love from all,
Brother.

R8. 10/18/30 See EC’s dream had during Physical rdg. 209-1, recorded below in re meeting Death.
R9. 10/18/30 During a Physical Rdg. 209-1 EC had an unusual dream experience. Upon awakening, he described this experience as follows:
I was preparing to give a reading. As I went out, I realized that I had contacted Death, as a personality, as an individual, or as a being. Realizing this, I remarked to Death: “You are not as ordinarily pictured - with a black mask or hood, or as a skeleton, or like Father Time with a sickle. Instead, you are fair, rose-cheeked, robust - and you have a pair of shears or scissors.” In fact, I had to look twice at the feet or limbs, or even at the body, to see it take shape.
He replied: “Yes, Death is not what many seem to think. It is not the horrible thing which is often pictured. Just a change - just a visit. The shears or scissors are indeed the implements most representative of life and death to man. These indeed, unite by dividing - and divide by uniting. The cord does not, as usually thought, extend from the center
- but is broken, from the head, the forehead - that soft portion we see pulsate in the infant. Hence we see old people, unbeknowing to themselves, gain strength from youth by kissing there; and youth gains wisdom by such kisses.
Indeed the vibrations may be raised to such an extent as to rekindle or re-connect the cord, even as the Master did with the son of the widow of Nain. For He did not take him by the hand (which was bound to the body as was the custom of the day), but rather stroked him on the head - and the body took life of Life itself! So, you see, the silver cord may be broken - but vibration…” Here the dream ended.
R10. 9/15/31 EC obtained his next dream interpretation rdg., 294-127.
R11. 8/46 Dream in Par. R9 above was used in A.R.E. Bulletin article by HLC entitled THE DOOR THAT SWINGS OUTWARD.
R12. 10/3/50 GD’s note: EC wrote them later about the above experience and his plan; they all helped build the memorial:
Sister - Annie Cayce; Sarah - Sarah Cayce Hesson; Ola - Ola Cayce Crume; Mary - Mary Cayce McPherson; Papa - Leslie B. Cayce - who died 4/11/37, although he no doubt would have died, in April of 1930, of bronchial pneumonia, had it not been for helpful advice followed from his readings.
R13. 12/58 Dream in Par. R9 above was used in HLC’s booklet GOD’S OTHER DOOR.

B2. 6/29/28 (Night of) or (morning of) 6/30/28 EC dreamed: “I heard someone reading. I asked someone (didn’t know who it was) what they were reading, and they told me it was a reading that Cayce had given for [900]. I said, ‘Why, that’s beautiful! I’ve never heard anything like it! Who do you suppose could be giving such as that?’ Someone told me that it was Habakkuk.”
