This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th day of May, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [2988], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘41 - ‘40 - what a change in the attitudes of the entity! - ‘39 - ” etc., on back to birth date.)

3. Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [2988].

4. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, there is much from which to choose; much that should mean a great deal to the individual entity. And, interpreting the records as we find them, these we choose from same with the desire and purpose that this be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfill those purposes for which it entered this present sojourn.

5. It is not by chance, then, that the entity - or any entity - enters a material manifestation at any given time, or any given place. For, much that is not comprehended through a three-dimensional consciousness or reasoning IS interpreted in the cosmos-consciousness, from which an entity enters physical consciousnesses

6. Thus there are latent urges that arise; not merely because the sun, the moon or the planets are at a certain position at the time or place; but rather the entity finds the channel at the time and place, as combined with the channel produced for the manifestation of a soul-entity.

7. Thus urges astrologically, that have to do with the spiritual consciousness, are not altogether in keeping with the influences commonly accredited to astrology; but because of an entity’s consciousness in that environ through what is called time or space (in its consciousness), during the interims between material entrances or manifestations, the entity finds urges arising of which it is aware in the senses.

8. This entity is one that is indeed a woman. For, little or no consciousness is in the manifestation of the entity as to an entrance into material manifestation in the opposite sex.

9. Hence the entity is unusually attractive to the opposite sex. Yet the entity finds self rather questioning self as to its choice of a mate.

10. But know, the soul is rather the soul-mate of the universal consciousness than of an individual entity.

11. Thus may this entity be much, in a large measure, to many. And the greater hope, the greater influence the entity may make, the greater contribution the entity may give in the experience, is the care of a home; if not by its choice of its OWN home, then in MAKING one for those who have not been so fortunate as to have one.

12. Thus, not as a nursemaid; not wholly as a governess, but rather as a teacher, as a companion, as an instructress, as one that may guide not only the body-spiritual but the body-mental and the body-physical of the young, in the care of same, in the unfoldment of mind, in the directing of the spiritual purposes to the One Cause, the One Way that is found in Him - who IS the way, the truth, the light. HE has so oft stood in that way as to encourage, to direct, to warn, - yea, even to offer self as a sacrifice, entering into the holy of holies indeed; that we through Him might have life, light and immortality. Hence as that sacrifice, as the spirit of truth, as the spirit of light, as the consciousness of God, He may indeed abide with those - daily - who seek to Know His will and His way.

13. Astrologically, then, - we find Venus, Mercury and Jupiter, with the Sun and the other constellations coming as influences.

14. In Venus, - for beauty, for home, for love, for patience.

15. In Mercury, - mind; the ability to use same in reason as well as in becoming aware of the universal consciousness. Thus the entity is given to what may be called psychic or soul unfoldment; not only because of the astrological application of truths attained but because of the material sojourns in the varied lands.

16. In the Sun we find both the weakness and the strength, as in Jupiter that universal consciousness which must make more and more of selflessness in the entity’s awareness - if it would become the greater channel of blessings to others.

17. Not that there is not to be material happiness, material joy; for these will come again into the entity’s experience by the sheer desire, the hope, and the applications of self to the WAY of the Lord of the Way.

18. For the earth is indeed His, and the fullness thereof. He enjoyed bringing pleasure to those who were in sorrow. He wiped away the tears of those that wept in sincerity. And He scoffed at those who wept only that they might be seen of men.

19. Then, to those who seek His way, He brings that promise, “I will never leave thee - I will abide with thee forever.”

20. Thus we will find within the next three years unfoldments for joy - if there is kept the purpose, the desire, the hope in Him, as the way of applying self and its abilities in His service.

21. As to appearances in the earth, - while all may not be given, these are given that the entity may see, feel, experience the WHY this or that has been and is the experience of the self in the present. For, whom the Lord loveth He purgeth, that we may bear more fruit in Him.

22. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, and the present sojourn in those periods when there were new settlings in this land.

23. The entity journeyed from those lands of birth to the new land. Hence in those environs of New York, or New Amsterdam, the entity will find the outlets for its abilities in the present.

24. For, then in the name Fredicker Veldkmer, the entity established a home - with many children, that brought many joys and many sorrows to the entity through that experience. For, these brought those changes in adventure, in activity; more and more that desire which is latent and manifested in the present of wanting to be quiet, to be close to nature, to keep close to God in the manifestations in nature. And the love for things of the earth and of nature becomes not exactly as a fetish but rather as a hope to the entity. This is the attempt to supply, then, a void created by the holding to material things in that sojourn.

25. Learn that hard lesson for the material mind to gain, - they that have life must give it; they that would save their own must lose it. Ye may only possess that which ye give to others. Thus, as ye gave thy love, thy joy to others, ye possess in the soul and the heart of thee that peace that is promised truly in Him who is the Prince of Peace; yea, the brother of all that seek to know the face of the Father.

26. In that way, then, may the entity in the present find that haven, that home, both in the material and in the mental and spiritual way of life.

27. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land, when the Master walked in the earth.

28. But more particularly were the activities of the entity as an individual during those early days of persecution, for the entity then was a sister of John Mark. And it was at that house that there were the first consciousnesses of its attractiveness to men, as well as to the spiritual things, - when Peter was released from prison.

29. The name then was Rhoda; not the one that answered the door, but one present in that household at the time.

30. In that experience the entity suffered hardships, from a material angle; yet great were the helps the entity gave to strangers in the early church, and in the early meetings of those groups that worked as helpers to maintain the material things for those who contributed to the welfare of the Apostles in that early period.

31. Yea, the Master knew the entity - and blessed the entity, among those children, though the entity was then in its early teen age when blessed by the Master.

32. In the present, then, - forget not thy God, nor all His benefits. Forget not those blessings that came from Him as an entity.

33. Ye are blessed, then, beyond many. Not that there is to be expressed a boastfulness, but make it rather the cause for thy unselfish devotion to the cause of Him in the way as ye go. Let others by thy smile, by thy speech, by thy kindness, take notice that thou hast walked, and dost daily walk, with Him.

34. Before that the entity was in the Inca land, when the peoples were seeking to establish the activities which had been in the Atlantean land.

35. The entity was in the household then of the Prince of the Incal land, in the name then Tujar. The entity applied self to the edifying of the young, in those activities that today would be termed the building of homes, basket weaving, bookmaking, rug designing; and the patterns of those things for conveniences in the home, the abilities to attend to the weak and disabled, were a part of the entity’s experience through that sojourn.

36. And these become a part of the entity’s consciousness in the present; song making, especially the pastoral songs, as well as the paintings and the beauty of such. But ever to the entity there must be either the mountain or the sea in the viewing of same.

37. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there were those activities in the city where there had been the establishing of the Temple of Sacrifice and the Temple Beautiful.

38. There the entity was among those who were the offspring of the Priest himself, with the companions there, at the period of purifying from the “things” that had been accomplished in those cleansings.

39. Thus we find the entity was set as a teacher; not merely because of the relationships in the experience, but because of the abilities indicated by the activities of the entity in the Temple Beautiful for the preparations of those in directing their paths along the lines of the preparation of homes, the preparation of groups and cities.

40. These are parts of the entity. And thus the city rather than the country, though close to where NATURE may be a part of the entity’s experience - as of assistance in camps or the like - may oft be a part of the entity’s experience.

41. The name then was La-La-Ort.

42. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then:

43. In the abilities of home building, as indicated, are the greater outlets for the entity; whether in that of its own - and that if it chooses, - but EVER a helper, an aid, a contributor to the welfare of the young; whether of its own or those who are without the home - the entity may make one for many.

44. Ready for questions.

45. (Q) What talent have I that I should develop to the greatest extent? (A) That of showing love for the unfolding minds of the young.

46. (Q) Is there any part of the world - some city or section - where I would be most successful with such a life work, or even with any occupation? (A) As indicated, in the environs of New Amsterdam, or New York - for they are the same.

47. (Q) Am I to remain single, or is there companionship and happiness ahead for me in marriage? (A) This may be a matter of choice. As we find, it will be thoroughly determined within the next two and a half to three years.

48. (Q) What kind of man would be the most desirable husband for me? (A) One with the same purposes and ideals as the entity.

49. (Q) Is there any special locality where I would be more likely to attract such a man, other than here in New York City? (A) Or the environs of New York, as indicated. This includes, of course, portions of upper New York and Connecticut, but more in the environs of the villages or towns about New York.

Study to show thyself approved unto thy ideal, knowing thy ideal, - spiritually, mentally, materially.

Dedicate thyself, - in body, in mind, in spirit, - to some definite work in the Lord’s way.

Keep the faith as ye showed in those periods when ye dedicated thyself before. And His peace, - not as the world knoweth peace, but even as He giveth, - will be thine indeed.

My dear Mr. Cayce

To say I do give thanks for all your wonderful letters is indeed poor, how I feel I cannot describe but your letters touches an innermost cord and makes me so happy that I cry -

No wonder I feel at home here in New York, the Sunday afternoon Jan. 18th 1931 when I landed here I felt I belonged here - I have been in several other parts of the world but no place did I care to stay or settle down, but here in America, I felt I belonged here. I am soon to become a citizen as I had decided here is where I want to spend this life. So that is a perfect picture with me in dear old New Amsterdam, no wonder I have Dutch friends here - Yes the picture you drew for me is perfect even to the Physical one. My Doctor 10 years ago - after a year of studying my case - said I can do no more for you - your case is an Emotional one throwing your Glands out of balance each time you go through these upsets (caused by my unhappy love for someone) and that was my entry into metaphysics as a result. They all gave me the cause but never the cure - I shall naturally do exactly as the readings prescribe this Thursday when I go to New York. I will at once go to Dr. Reilly for a consultation and treatment.

I should love to go over my Life Reading with you Mr. Cayce when I am at the Beach. I feel you might guide me along the right path - there seems to be some place along the road where I have taken a wrong turn as I have suffered all my life from Loneliness and misunderstanding and this Companionship I have had for these 11 years has given me nor the other part peace, and yet we have not been able to pull apart so it seems - only now when I go to Virginia Beach I feel the final break is there - but as he [3126] says and I agree that if all these years have been in preparation for being privileged to have the Book, There Is A River, come into our experience - then it has been worth it all.

I am counting the days to my departure for Virginia - it is a great event for me, I am thankful daily by the mere thought -

I thought when I had met you all I could go home and work in peace having calmed my anxiety regarding seeing you but it is worse than ever. I just can’t let go of you a second day or night - it is as if it was another Planet I had returned from

• my visit has left a strange influence over me - has no urge to get married, anymore - just think of it me who wanted that all my life - But you Mr. Cayce is to me like one sent down from a higher Spheres - you are so beyond anyone on this Earth - that I feel strongly to take a plane and fly down just to kiss you.

I am living just in the present of the moment when I again can embrace you two lovable Beings, down South.

My dear Mr. & Mrs. Cayce,

Yesterday - Monday - I was shopping at Allman’s when my former Employer and her little girl (5) […] came speeding in - seems to be in a great hurry - “Oh, […] so nice to see you, why did you not write us - nor let us know you had returned from Virginia etc. - do come and see us. We must RUN - […] has to go - go.” And off they went - as I was about to leave Allman’s in comes the Mother of the young wife

• “Oh, come over here let us talk - now that [3126] has left
• there is no reason in the world why you can’t go back to my Daughter - she has not been able to find anyone in your place - please come back with us - right now - they are here at Allman’s.” “Yes, I know, I just spoke to them.” And while we were speaking […] and her Mother returned and pleaded with me to return, made a tempting financial offer for bait - “[2988], your lovely room is there as you left it we’ve just can’t bear to think any one else to occupy it.” Strange I have an appointment with an ambassador’s wife, companion & travelling included in the position. I am to start this very afternoon at 3 - but this seems to be destined as I cannot explain why I dropped into Allman’s and had left once - but went back to look for the handle to my pocketbook - which I had lost - they are Christian Scientists and feel their Prayers had been answered in meeting me - and the little […] - well her and I always had a lovely time together - recall I told you how she and I loved to listen to King Solomon - and so I MELTED and returned with them to the lovely Country Estate - the young husband is a Captain in the army - stationed in Tennessee at present. So thus I am back in my old place - which I left 4 weeks ago to day - returned a new person with a joyful outlook on things and my work. They all comment about my changed looks - “the worried gloomy expression gone” they tell me - “what happened?” “I went to Virginia I lived with the most marvelous couple I have yet encountered on this Earth - well the result is - read the Book - There Is A River - and you will understand my attitude. I have lived with them - and marvelled over their way of living - that I am ready to start all over again on a different tone - my work is easy” - the heat is fierce today - it does not bother me at all - I think of you and off I go on a sweet tune with the words - There Is A River - and the river is you - so if God has no other plans for me - I shall stay here until I find that Ideal of mine - when find me well and good enough to choose to marry me. If not - well then I will learn office work and come, home, to give a hand and see if I should be able to be a real value to you both - until then it is work - but I don’t mind anymore I have my Books my pictures of you and my memories and those most precious letters which I read so very often to be sure I can retain the MOOD I acquired in your presence - so now you know where your wandering Daughter is out in the Country, which she loves - my long quiet Evenings with my Books and thoughts of you two down there - picturing in my mind now they do this now that - and thus the days will pass quickly when I again can go home to sit with you both again -

Dearest Gladys,

3:10 pm exactly a month ago

I came running up the steps to greet you all, and was then greeted my [by] the world’s most lovable being - I am just now while writing this looking at the steps leading to the Library, and mentally walking in - As I know a reading is about to take place -

But Gladys why I write you again is because I am terrible restless and anxious concerning the health and well being of Mr. Cayce - as you recall I already asked you when down there - that he seems to be overdoing and overtaking himself and when I look at the pictures you took of us - my heart just aches - he seems so extremely tired, that I fear the Body will not be able to hold him much longer if something is not done for him - can’t you tell him he must check himself - to see that all is well - I cannot release him a minute all day or night - now that I have my Ideal in a Father I cannot bear to think of losing him yet - I have such plans and dreams for the future which would be empty if he was not here - you who are around him daily my [may] fail to see him going - because that sweet lovable man would never complain but just keep on - so please do all you can to ease it for him and see that he does not fail to take a reading on himself - and that it be followed out - I can- not bear the thought of ever losing him - I must have that bond sealed securely that I can be certain of a close association with him in the future Life. If he chooses to come to Earth again - which I feel he will - but until such time you must be the Guardian Angel - will you Gladys - I like not this constant anxiety regarding him - because I should hold a rather joyful attitude regarding him but I watched him often down there - and my heart cried out - wanting to help - yet I felt I was not able to - as I beg of you to watch and care when you can - remember he will never tell - but do watch him well - don’t let him slip from us yet

• other things are so unimportant - just try for a second to see what it would be like for you if he had gone home, I don’t think I could stand it less you who have shared part of his Life - so do all you can and NEVER fail to call on me if there be anything I can do - anything no matter what - envy is not the word, but I do wish I had been able to work with him like you - so now that I have found my Father the perfect one I always carried in my heart - I must not lose him yet - so - is there anything Gladys that I can get for him - if so let me know - but do not let him know please - just try to read HIS SILENCE - because in that is more said than otherwise - and let me know at all times where I can step in and help - trusting to you.

“In July issue of The Searchlight, Julia Chandler tells of an experience and relates how while she was lying on the ground, etc., etc., that she found herself in a Grecian garden - quite similar pattern etc., etc., ‘was doubtless responsible for the quickening of my memory,’ she writes. Sure. I had just read of Rise Stevens the soprano - that during a performance in Greece she herself during her singing found herself in the time of the early amphitheater performance, etc. - which brings me to November 7, 1943. I was sitting in the Hotel McAlpin in New York in the lobby waiting for Mr. Edgar Cayce. I dozed off - found myself in Egypt - saw Mr. Cayce dressed in a native garment walking towards me between some MARBLE COLUMNS - see! Then at once I came to - and there, between two marble columns in the McAlpin came Mr. Cayce towards me. Later I was told that when Mr. Cayce was a priest in an Egyptian incarnation I was his daughter. So you see the pattern, Gladys. As with Julia Chandler, so with me. The marble columns quickened my memory, so to speak.”

R12. 7/61 She and her husband visited Va. Beach with the idea of settling down here, after they had travelled to Calif. and Europe (following the sale of their two acre “villa” in upper N.Y.) She was completely frustrated and realized that she must return to N.Y. in order to be happy, just as 2988-2 had indicated.
