This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of June, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - [2988], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.

3. As we find, there are acute conditions respecting the optics. These, as we find, we would for the present keep reduced with applications which would cause relaxation. But if the inflammation continues in the eye, we would operate to remove that which has caused the greater distress.

4. As to the general health of the body:

5. We find that the body is beginning the changing periods. Thus the injection of the male hormones would be well for the body. This is to be done under the direction of a physician.

6. Ready for questions.

7. (Q) What has caused condition in left eye? (A) This is from an injury and inflammation. We would keep down these conditions with ice or such, unless this continues. If inflammation should continue, operate.

8. We are through with this reading.

R1. 6/18/44 Friend’s letter:

My dear Mr. Cayce:

That you may know how matters stand with our good friend [2988], I have taken it upon myself to act as her personal secretary. I shall tell her later, or rather read to her later, what I am writing to you.

[2988] has a real cross to bear. On Thursday and Friday last the Iritis seemed to clear up and the sclera of the eye was just a faint pink - the swelling had gone down. Yesterday the affected eye was again very much inflamed and swollen (giving off a considerable amount of pus); and in addition her left eye was showing inflammation. Today the inflammation in both eyes has increased.

[2988] saw Doctor Winslow the eye specialist this morning, and he confesses that he is still at a loss to understand what causes the infection - order some special eye-drops, absolute rest away from glare. He gave her another Vitamin C injection; and asked her to return tomorrow or the next day.

Doctor Paul Neuda the internist whom [2988] consulted last Saturday, again on Tuesday and yesterday, injected a liver compound on the three occasions. He advises [2988] that her blood-chemistry definitely indicates an endocrine infection; and he will treat her accordingly.

So much for the technical side of the question - as [2988]‘s staunch friend and advisor, I felt you would like to know some of the facts. Also that your special delivery which she received yesterday buoyed up her spirits tremendously. Quietude of mind and spirit are essential factors in aiding [2988] to overcome not only the infection but a depression of spirit that naturally accompanies such a difficulty. The uncertainty of lack of vision (a blurred vision) is not easy to take when one has been accustomed to see and appreciate the beauties of nature around her. Providence has His own designs for permitting each one of us to suffer in one way or another; and who knows but that this physical respite for [2988] may be but the sanctuary to a better and fuller life ahead.

You may or may not know of my following or profession; but suffice to say that as a personnel consultant, my opinion has long been that [2988] has not been using the varied talents entrusted to her by a kind Creator. We none of us know exactly where the seeds of our good behavior or example will fall or fructify, and so we can say that no matter where we are or what we are doing that some good will come out of it. On the other hand, however, common sense dictates that we must seek with all our might for the basically proper place for the channeling of our talents, and it is about this that I write. I have the temerity to suggest that we devote some prayerful thoughts to the end that [2988] following this period of trial, will find a better outlet for her abilities.

[2988] mentioned the other day that you are in the midst of an annual congress. My very best wishes to you for a succession of successful days.

R2. 7/19/44 [2988]‘s letter:

Saranac Lake

My dear Mr. Cayce

So very pleased to hear from you - truly felt I was forgotten by all at V. Beach, but do not like to hear you are not feeling perfect - but I presume its the Congress which has taxed your strength, as we are all not thinking what we are doing to your health when we want to be with you as much as possible - hope you will be able to rest and regain your former state of well being - as this […] herself - my eyes is not yet past “danger” but the Dr. feel I will regain full vision in time - but the heat in New York was unbearable in this condition, so I am here in the Adriandacks - a heavenly spot high in the Mountains at the edge of a lake which is dabbed with unnumbered Islands and Mountains wherever one turns the eyes even my old friend White Face Mountain in Lake Placid is visible from here, I am going to Lake Placid tomorrow for a visit, is from 65 to 70 degrees here - thus perfect - need 3 blankets at night just wonderful - all windows open and the odor of balsam fills the air - this is a veritable paradise far away from people no one near here - here is an adorable caretaker - look as if he might be YOUR very own twin brother - even his voice is like yours and his hearty laugh too.

Music fills the woods, a creative pianist lives here not a performing one - he is a composer - and here in this heavenly spot is inspired, deep in the woods he has his studio from whence comes this glorious music. The 3 main buildings are in Norwegian style dark brown with staircases leading to second floors running outside the buildings and flowers and vines adorn same as under all windows - at present its drawing up to a thunderstorm - but even that is a lovely sight, I love the elements at play - its 3:30 pm as I pen this - the birds singing and trying to outdo the pianist - it would do you wonders if you could behold this sight of beauty and peace - my eyes are getting better and better, this is of course home to me as I have spent several seasons in Lake Placid - thus I know it was balsam for a sick and lonely soul to be granted a few months up here close to God. I would love to remain to after Christmas I long to spend same in these surroundings when all is covered with snow, but they say it is inaccessible by that time. I had a lovely letter from precious June today also, all my mail came for the first time today as I only arrived here a week ago today - and I see she is in Minnesota now. The Dr. himself has suffered greatly from an iritis too and is total blind on left eye after several operations and she deemed me lucky for having my eye whole and unimpaired. Hers is all “run out” so to speak, but when I woke up one morning with my sick left eye I had never heard of iritis then had no fear at all in my consciousness which I feel is a great asset and the Dr. never told me it was possible to lose the sight, ah - here is the rain at last - to me its music too up here in the woods

• when you think of it will you let me have a copy of the Congress Bulletin - the weekly readings are as ever treasured and I find them double rich when read up here - no need to change the address of the Bulletin my friends see that all mail reach me - but if you should find time and desire to pen me a word I give you my address to here - thus I leave you now with hope that all and everyone is well - how is my Tommy Can he talk yet?

Dear [2988]

Thanks very much for yours of the 19th. I am sorry indeed to know that you have been having such a time, but you are most fortunate if you are improving. You know, that is the condition that Mrs. Cayce had. Hers, of course, came from a fall, but just what yours came from was apparently not indicated in the information. I don’t know what your doctor said about it. What was his decision as to the cause? From a cold, or did you have a real shock of some kind that might have something to do with it?

It is most fortunate that you were able to go to Saranac for the summer and get out of the heat in New York. The Congress, and the work that has followed, has been almost too much for me. I am leaving the latter part of this week, about Wednesday or Thursday, and will be gone possibly a couple of weeks. I am going to the Gulf to go fishing, and from there to the doctor, myself.

I think I will go to a doctor in either Philadelphia, Washington, or New York. Haven’t decided yet, as I will take a few treatments while I am in the South.

We had a wonderful meeting for the Congress, but it certainly wore out everybody here that had to give much time to it.

R4. 10/11/44 GD’s letter:

Miss [2988] New York City

Dearest [2988]

When your letters came addressed to Mary Wirsing they were forwarded to her, as she has had to return home, and that is why there has been such a delay. Then, too, we have been sorely taxed here for some time. When your letter and check came, I thought Mary or Mr. Cayce had acknowledged receipt of same.

You see, Mr. and Mrs. Cayce for several weeks now have been in Mary’s home town, Roanoke, Va., where he is following the treatments outlined for him in his own reading. It is quiet there and he has nothing else to do. It was necessary for him to get flat on his back before he would give up and follow the treatments in detail. We are glad to say that he is steadily improving, but it is very slow. Please write to them there - I know they will be glad to hear. They are in the Patrick Henry Hotel, Roanoke, Va.

Due to the tremendous expense we have had to cut the office force to a nub. Mae and I are practically carrying the whole burden, just as we did in the beginning, and with no prospects for any salary to amount to anything for some time to come. You see, we had a tremendous office force working on everything under the sun except the research work for which the organization was formed, and all the salaries practically coming from income from readings. This was a bad financial set-up. We have to start all over again. I’m telling you all this because I know you are deeply concerned and will understand. We don’t know when Mr. Cayce will be able to give readings - it may be several months. His nerves are completely shot to pieces.

You will be glad to know that Thomas Sugrue has agreed to take over all publications. Soon the Weekly Letter and Bulletin will come now, and you’ll get several in a bunch to make up for those missed.

I do hope you are feeling well again, and that you will bear with us under these trying times. It is such cooperation as yours that gives us the incentive to “carry on.”

P.S. I have moved back into the Cayce home. Someone has to look after things, day and night, and when he returns they will still need me here nights - they are neither very strong.

With the arrival of your recent letter to Gladys giving us an address, I am given the opportunity of expressing my appreciation for the sunshine you brought into the life of my family.

Both Mother and Dad wrote about you, and upon my return, I found many cards, letters, books and pictures, expressions of your thoughtfulness and love. Frequently, when I pick up a book to read to my son (you would enjoy seeing him now, he is precious) I see your name.

Thank you.

I look forward to meeting you personally. Perhaps, I will be in New York in April and if so I will certainly get in touch with you if you are in the city.

“Villa …” … Road …, N.Y.

Dear Gladys.

Thanks for your prompt answer - it warmed my heart to see you had been “searching” for me - but I have never left N.Y. state - how could I? The Cayce Reading said - I would find my “Husband” - in and around New York - and according to the Reading it ought to have been around 1946 - and not 1948 when we did meet - But as usual the Reading WAS right - it was us; in time - when we got talking about the Cayce Reading we found out - that we had BOTH turned down a position which would have brought us together in 1946 - see - well - so here I am - Mrs. […]. Hallo Mrs. Turner - how are you! Well we build our own lovely Villa here in … - have 2 acres of a fabulous Garden and an Organic Vegetable Garden - we have cultivated the soil here from Virgin Forest for 4 years - but only moved in a year ago. I have completely overworked myself on these 2 acres doing nearly everything myself - then a terrible winter - sitting in a lovely big livingroom by a Fire for over 3 months with Bursitis could not use the right arm just sitting - thus time to think - and I said to The Master (my Husband) Mr. Cayce is right - when you get OLD the Winter w. snow hold no charm anymore - and I go - mad - sitting thus for the rest of my life - I MUST have some work

• of some kind which feeds my soul and mind - this life and T.V. is not for me. Well what? We do not like Florida. One gets only lazy there - well [3034] went to California after the Life Reading for Mr. Cayce - and he has reached great heights and then got 2 Cayce babies, as we call them - let us go out to … to them - and that is where we aim to go - when this Villa is sold - and my Life Reading said “I should study and prepare myself for some DEFINITE (but what work in the Lords Way” so of course I have NEVER stopped studying - but I cannot FIND the Way - to apply it - so I feel that [3034] who is a Dr. and uses God’s Law in his work could be a Way - through which I could serve in some measure. [3034]‘s Life Reading. Saturday 28th May 1943 - mine May 6th 1943 [See 2988-2] it is truly marvelous how [3034]‘s reading has come true to the very letter. I am grieved that I did not get a Physical Reading followed up, as the trouble indicated in the first [See 2988-1] has come to pass - much of it could maybe have been prevented if I have had “Vision” to see ahead - and sought advice. BUT - I was NOT sick then - now I have violent Migraines every 10 days with vomiting for 12 hours
• bursitis still in arm, neck and just finished the 4th bad Eyeritis [iritis] - and this 4th time the verdict is that the left eye will NEVER be completely OK. I think it was what caused Mrs. Cayce’s bad eyes? Now - Gladys - please mail me something for the Reading which bears on Migraines - Bursitis and Eyeritis (spelled wrong to be sure). Oh, Gladys, do you have June & Harmon Bro’s address. I was in Camden Maine in 1947 in August and read while there that a Preacher OUT WEST? had taken to splitting rails as his TALK could not feed him - name - Harmon Bro.

I doubt there will be time to go via Virginia this time as we are flying to Calif. But who knows how long it will take to sell this House - in the meanwhile - The [3034]‘s and us have planned a trip after we have found a house in Riverside - and Virginia is calling us. You see if we do not sell all the furniture w/ the house it will arrive in 11 days in Calif. - and we would like to have a house to put it in - that is ONE reason we fly out. How is Mae Verhoven? and all the Cayces? Are there any “Cayce Babies” in the Turner Family?

My husband and I are as you see, off this address in Denmark and plan to return to U.S.A. in the later part of July and we wish to spend a time at A.R.E. Thus, will you kindly send me answer to the following Questions: #1. Have you rooms available at that time? #2. Is it necessary to make reservations for a large room with 2 single beds - bath if possible? I presume we can get all the meals there also? I would like to hear from you, Gladys as soon as possible as we like to plan our whole itinerary accordingly, WE left California via New York for Denmark and planned for Denmark to New York airport - by plane direct to Virginia. I presume we have to go to NORFOLK? ARE there any car transportation at the airport to be had to A.R.E.?? I try to make it as comfortable as I can for my dear Englishman by planning the trips ahead - please let us hear from you at your earliest convenience.
