GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestion for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2998].
-
As we find, conditions here are such that one would call the condition of the nature that the body is not so very ill - oft - but not so very well, most of the time.
-
These are the tendencies and inclinations as we find them with this body, [2998].
-
In times back there were those subluxations which caused, at the time of puberty, a deflection of the activities of the glands in the thyroid, the gonad, the adrenals. These were of such natures as not to hinder development wholly, but retarding the activities caused the incoordinations between the superficial and sympathetic AND the cerebrospinal or central nervous system.
-
These caused, then, as a reflex condition, lack of proper coordination in the eliminating systems of the body.
-
Thus there has been a constant change in the activities in these directions.
-
First, there has been the tendency for all of those disturbances that cause a rash, - as from measles, of the varied kinds; as from the eruptions, as of poison ivy. There is the tendency for the body to be allergic to all of these disorders.
-
Thus those tendencies for the feet to give trouble at times, the areas in the groin, about the pubic center, those areas along the body - under the arm, or just below the area where the mammary gland coordinates with the frontal and back portion - these areas tend to be irritated.
-
The headaches, as of an upset stomach, and yet a dull ache at times and at others rather as an acute condition.
-
A tendency towards sterility, though not sterile at all - but the inclination for the slowing activity of the gonads, as well as the adrenals and the thyroid.
-
These all become a part of the RESULT of the nature of the disturbance.
-
As we find, the subluxation still shows as an inclination - or an area in the 6th to the 8th dorsal - where there is a form of a lesion; as well as in the 2nd lumbar, as a heaviness through the sacral center, or sacral axis; but a lesion at the 2nd lumbar.
-
These, as we find, are the causes and the effects that have been produced in this body of [2998].
-
These have not caused other than an irritating disturbance; never wholly quite well and yet if there are periods when the body is exercised as to expectancy of something very pleasing, the more often the body responds wonderfully - and the body feels better. Yet there are periods when, after the expectancy has caused the body to feel capable of and equal to even some emergencies, the body finds there is a reaction from a headache - as through the temples - and then a dullness through the shoulder blades, - and the body does not feel equal to any condition, for a few days.
-
Then, in making applications for these conditions, - there will necessarily be required periods of treatment, periods of activity, and then the allowing of the body to react to the administration made, then another series of treatments. And we find we should bring near to normal forces for the body.
-
First, we would begin with a combination of hydrotherapy and massage; not merely a treatment by a masseur, but as this:
-
There would be a light cabinet sweat, followed by the hot and cold needle showers, and then a thorough rubdown afterward combined with an adjustment - not chiropractically but osteopathically administered - through the areas especially of the lumbar and sacral, then through the central dorsal area, and through the cervicals. These areas should be made to coordinate one with another.
-
Following the adjusting treatment there should be a thorough heating of the spine, all along the spine, by JUST massage, or a rub.
-
This procedure would be followed at least once each week, until six or ten treatments are taken.
-
At the end of the six to ten treatments, have a thorough colonic irrigation; this merely to set up better conditions through the colon, after there has been the stimulation by the massage and hydrotherapy treatment to set up better coordination in eliminations; and these coordinations between the perspiratory and respiratory system and the alimentary canal, by stimulating the areas or the centers indicated for better coordinated activity.
-
After these treatments have been completed, begin to take (not before) the Wheat Germ Oil; this as an added amount of the vitamins necessary for the activity of the body, in aiding better recuperation.
-
We would also exercise in the open a great deal; as in golfing or riding, or walking, or swimming - these are the best for the body.
-
Do these, and be consistent.
-
Keep up good eliminations, and be careful in the diet not to set up acid-producing forces through the body.
-
When the Wheat Germ Oil has been taken for two weeks, and the body has rested the two weeks from the hydrotherapy and massage, and has been careful as to diet, - we would then leave off the Wheat Germ Oil for some three to four weeks and again take the hydrotherapy and massage.
-
After the second round of this has been completed, begin again with the Wheat Germ Oil.
-
Do these, and we will have better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Will this treatment stop falling hair and dandruff? (A) It will aid. When the massage is given for the body, have also a regular massage for the scalp. Use any good soap, as Tar Soap or Castile soap to cleanse and dress the scalp and hair. Then use the Fitch’s Five-In-One Oil.
-
We are through for the present.

R2. 5/18/43 [2998]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your recent letter and also a copy of the life and physical readings. I was very much interested in these readings. Your report on my physical condition described my feeling in much the same manner as I have described it myself many times. I had supposed that it was the result of lung trouble, which I had in 1932, but which I was surprised to note you did not refer to at all. I was amazed to read that my lethargy was caused from dislocations of various vertebrae. This morning I visited an osteopath, Colin H. Threlkeld, …, Tennessee, and told him that I wanted him to examine my back. I did not give him any information whatsoever concerning your advice, and upon examination, he told me, without hesitation, that I had the lesions in the exact spots mentioned in your reading. He told me further that the subluxations had interfered considerably with the activity of my thyroid gland, and in his own words, set forth your exact diagnosis. I got off the table, handed him a copy of your reading, and while he studied it, I told him about your work and about you personally. He became very indignant when I disputed his statement that you were a highly trained osteopath and mechanic. When I told him that you had never studied osteopathy, he said, “That guy may have you fooled, but he hasn’t got me fooled.” His diagnosis of your condition shows positively that he has a perfect understanding of the principles and practices of osteopathy which could only come from deep study and much practice.” I was not interested in making a believer of him and so did not press the point. He explained your distant diagnosis by saying that I had given you enough information in letters and questions for a brilliant mind as yours to diagnose the case accurately!
Neither Threlkeld nor any other osteopath in … is equipped to give me the cabinet and shower bath treatments that you recommend. Threlkeld says that he can manually manipulate my back so as to bring about the same results that you suggest, although the results, of course, will not be as quickly seen. I am most anxious to follow your instructions to the exact letter, and I am wondering if harmful results would be caused by my taking the cabinet, shower and rubdown at my athletic club and walking three blocks for the osteopathic manipulations.
I accepted a treatment from Threlkeld this morning for the reason that his charge for an examination includes a treatment, and I did not feel that the treatment would prove injurious. He has suggested that I take another treatment Friday, but I would prefer to withhold treatments until you can make further suggestions to me about overcoming the difficulties I have mentioned.
The group before whom I reviewed THERE IS A RIVER has requested me to give them a supplemental report next Sunday night, which I expect to do. I am pleased to tell you that I will recommend your work in no uncertain terms, and I feel it is possible that some members of the group will want to join your society. My wife [3107] would like to make application for membership and would like to have a physical reading as soon as possible. If you will book her for the physical reading upon receipt of this letter, I assure you that your application form will be returned to you with dues at once.
R3. 5/24/43 [2998]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have received your letter of May 21. I decided not to continue further with Threlkeld and have made arrangements with another osteopath, Dr. Walter Baker [Walter L. Baker, D.O.], …, Tennessee, who is co-operating with me in giving every detail of the treatment suggested by you. I let him read your letter, and he and his father [C. L. Baker, D.O.], with whom he is associated, were very much interested in your story and proved to be neither skeptics nor unbelievers. I feel quite certain that as my treatments produce results, they will be able to use this case to their benefit in their practice.
I did not write the book review but gave it orally from notes. I am sorry that I have nothing in writing that I can send you.
Please book my wife [3107] for the open period, September 27, 1943, 3:30 to 4:30 E.W.T. If you will send me application blanks, I will immediately return them to you.
Please advise me further what you mean by not eating acid producing foods. Will you send me a list of the foods I should not eat and advise over what period of time they should not be eaten. I like a bottle of beer and a highball occasionally. Does this mean I should not take any alcohol? Most sincerely, [2998]
R4. 5/31/43 [2998]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Enclosed herewith is my wife’s application, together with a check for $20.00. Apparently, you overlooked sending the list of foods, and I will appreciate your sending them to me.
I note that you have given my wife [3107] one reading date of September 27th. She is in very bad physical condition, and doctors do not seem to be able to do her much good. I know that you are extremely busy, but if you should have any cancellations between now and September 27th or any open dates for any other reason, I would appreciate it very much if you would give her an earlier appointment.
As regards myself, my physical condition has improved considerably. I no longer have the weary feeling in my back and shoulders which I always experienced when tired. All my life I have required at least eight hours or more sleep each night, but since the treatments, I have been waking up refreshed after five or six hours sleep. This to me is a marvellous realization of a wish I have long expressed, as I have always felt that I have wasted too much time in sleeping.
It is very kind of you to write me as promptly as you do, and I want you to know I appreciate it. I also want you to know that I am at your service for any purpose in this vicinity, if you should ever have occasion to call upon me.
Sincerely, [2998]

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Under date of June 7, 1943 you gave me an appointment for October 25th for a life reading of my two adopted sons. One of these children was adopted at the age of three months and the other one at the age of six days. Necessarily, their present names are not their original names. Both of them were born in Memphis. Please advise me if it will be necessary for me to send you their birth names.
I do not believe I have sent you a check for these readings and will appreciate your advising me how much I should send you.
A friend of mine, Hugh Russell Fraser, a writer of Washington, D.C., recently telephoned you long distance, and you referred him to your son, Hugh Lynn Cayce. Mr. Fraser was in town last week, and we discussed your work at length, and he is very much interested. It is possible that he will come over to Virginia Beach to see you soon. If so, it is my intention to meet him there, if possible, so that I can have the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with you.
I want to thank you for the reading and the help which you gave my wife [3107]. I am afraid that she is not receiving any benefit from this, however, as she is not following instructions. I am very sorry that she has not yet seen the necessity of co-operating fully.
I have followed your instructions pretty thoroughly and am delighted to report that you have given me a new lease on life. I feel perfectly wonderful all of the time. There have only been one or two minor headaches which indicate that the trouble might not be entirely corrected. I wonder if you can give me a check reading any time soon. This would be very much appreciated of you can.
With all good wishes and sincere personal regards, I am
Most sincerely, [2998]
