This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th St., Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of February, 1926, in accordance with request made by his father - Mr. [779].

Time of Reading 10:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for the improvement and relief of same.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before, you see.

3. Now, we find those physical weakened conditions in the body have become accentuated, and of that nature wherein, the intestine being overloaded and over-extended, or dilated, has produced a parting of the wall of the encasement of same, producing the hernia, or the broken tissue. This, then, produces in the extravagant circulation as produced, the inflammation and temperature.

4. To bring about the better condition, then, would be through that manipulation of the portions of body in that way of the neuropath or osteopath, and by massaging into this portion of the system those of equal parts of olive oil and arnica, and keep this bandaged until the condition has the chance to heal and strengthen; of course, removing bandage when these manipulations and emplacements are made, which should be done at least every other day, see? and at each time this is done, massage in the system, gently, those properties as given, for the strengthening of the walls.

5. Then, modifying the diet, as that will meet with the needs of the system, to produce the normal action of the intestine, else we will produce so much inflammation as to give appendicitis to the body, and necessitate operation, see?

6. (Q) Should the food be modified in quality or quantity? (A) Quantity. Quality of food is correct, as has been given. Use more of the food itself, see - Mellin’s.

7. (Q) Instead of so much milk? (A) Instead of so much milk.

8. (Q) And reduce the quantity given? (A) And reduce the quantity given.

9. (Q) Should it be given as often? (A) Given on regular time, see? Do this, and we will bring the better conditions for this body.

”…FOR HERNIA AND INFLAMMATION TO CORRECT THE CONDITION SHOULD BE DONE THROUGH MANIPULATION BY NEUROPATH OR OSTEOPATH RUBBING INTO THIS PORTION OF THE SYSTEM EQUAL PARTS OLIVE OIL AND ARNICA. KEEP BANDAGED EXCEPT WHEN GIVING TREATMENT FOR EMPLACEMENT WHICH SHOULD BE DONE AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY. MODIFY DIET TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SYSTEM AND TO PRODUCE NORMAL ACTION OF THE INTESTINE. R2. 2/17/26 Letter from [779] to EC:

”…I want to thank you for the reading for [318], also the wire advising treatment. I must say this is what I would call quick and efficiency I do not think it can be improved upon as far as time is concerned. Again please accept our many thanks to you and to those that helped. We are much pleased with the reading. I am pleased to advise that the treatment is being done. Dr. Elise Stone, N.D. of Montgomery read the reading and this is what she said: ‘I treat my patients every day but do as this says as I believe it is dangerous to do any other way than what Mr. Cayce says.’ The boy seems to be doing very nicely still growing and gaining weight each week and looking so well. Dr. Stone says he is the finest she ever saw to be 2 1/2 months old. We also changed his eats and this too seems to be working as fine as can be. I am so glad we got this reading as it corrected us on his food and too we did not know he was having any temperature and inflammation that would likely cause appendicitis, since the food has been corrected I feel sure he will now be OK. The hernia seems to be better. After a few weeks we will check the conditions and see just how it is, and as to the length of time the manipulations should be given. Yes, he is sure going to be a bad one, because the Madam won’t let him cry when he [318] wants to, for fear it may make the hernia worse by him straining in crying…”

R3. 2/25/26 Letter from [779] to EC:

”…We all are doing very nicely, the boy [318] seems to be fine. At times the hernia is down, then at other times looks OK. Anyway, we will soon see if treatment is being done as should be and if same is giving results as should…”

R4. 3/7/26 Letter from [779] to EC:

”…Dr. Stone advised that Mrs. Wood Gray [Mamie Butler Gray] of this place could give treatments for hernia as well as she could as Mrs. Gray had studied and practiced with her for near a year [at the Southern Neuropathic College], and too knowing the trip every other day was very trying on the Madam [780] and baby [318] as well being quiet expensive, of which being very unable to bear very much of that just at present.

So Mrs. Gray has treated [318] for about two weeks and it looked that the hernia condition did not improve any. I believe more on account of not having the proper kind of bandage to keep hernia in place, thereby causing the place not to heal on account of the hernia kept dropping and kept the healing breaking, so I asked Mrs. Gray to discontinue treatments until I could get the bandage or truss that I had made to fit the condition, so I received this yesterday and we are putting that on today. Don’t know how it will work, on account of the location of hernia we know it is going to be extremely hard to get something to keep in place. In reading it said keep bandage on except when treatment being given, at that time we were using a bunch of soft cotton cords with a knot tied in center and the knot being over hernia, this of course at times did not keep in place when he would keep his legs and feet drawn up, the bandage would be slack and put no pressure on hernia, only when he kept himself straightened out would this bandage fit, so you see we are at a loss to know just what. I am sure condition has not improved any as far as the hernia is concerned, but his general condition has been wonderful. The modifying of his food has brought about the good movement of bowels daily, and the little man certainly did grow, but he has been pretty sick this past week with the ‘Flu’ or bad cold, had the croup too, but he is about straight again today with the exception of a very bad cough which makes the hernia drop very bad…

“By the way I forgot to tell you, where I got the idea of that rope bandage, Dr. Kenan said that was the best he knew for children, so did Dr. Stone, Dr. Kenan [Walter Kenan, M.D.] saw him the first day we noticed it, and that is the last time he saw it, said nothing could be done, had to let nature care for it, and if it did not get well after he [318] was 7 or 8 years of age, then it might be operation, but no operation on babies unless the strangulation condition came up, which would call for operation at once. Now what do you think about it? Would you think a good idea to get another reading and see what are the conditions? If so, the questions as listed are what I would like to know if possible…”

R8. 2/24/49 Mrs. [2390] reported that her baby son had been operated on for an inguinal hernia - he was born with it - just a replacement operation by a young coming surgeon in Norfolk, Va. - Dr. M. Kerwin King. The baby is getting on fine, has not had a bit of trouble. Testicles were dropped and had turned blue. GD asked her for this report, since [318] at 23 yrs. of age is still having serious trouble because a similar condition was not corrected by surgery.
