This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of September, 1931, in accordance with request made by her son, Mr. [257].

Time of Reading 11:15 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: We have the body, Mrs. [325] - this we have had before. Now, we find while the conditions in the physical forces have altered somewhat, most of these have been well. That there are those periods of depression, of weakness, of tendency of nervous reactions as cause disorders in various respects, these may be expected from those conditions as have existed. When, and while there are the normal mental reactions from surroundings, and those conditions that make for worriment, we find the body keeps physically in a buoyant state. When there are some disorders, or depressions of any nature arise, then we find those reactions as come with and from same.

2. We would not alter materially those things as have been outlined for the conditions in the body. We would add occasionally those that make for the better body eliminations. We would occasionally also, as has been suggested, add those in the way of the various stimuli for body-functioning in those of the wines, or those of champagne, or the sweet wines. ALL of these will add to the strength and virility of the system.

3. We would keep occasionally the massage that tends to make for the better eliminations, the better distribution of that as is assimilated, and we will find that with these being changed or altered - that is, the changes in the treatments for the body - these will keep the body in nearer that accord that makes for the better physical conditions in the body. Do that. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Would it be best for the body to come to Virginia Beach for a visit? (A) That would best be determined by the body itself. It is well that the body gets out, or has the change of environs, or vibrations, as oft as is possible. This would be WELL, were the body to CHOOSE that this would be a manner of the better understanding, the better relations, the better conditions for the body. Then it would be well.

5. That is all the questions.

6. In the changes, those properties as are being given in the ash should be kept more in accord with the manner in which they were first applied to the body, or for the body, and we will find these will aid MORE, in the producing of the oxygen for the blood, and the stimuli for the whole of the lymph and emunctory circulation. We are through with this reading.

R1. 10/10/31 Daughter [460]‘s letter: “Mother is much better but still is weak and has a cough, as the weather is very changeable.”

R2. 10/12/31 Son [257] obtained the following regarding his mother’s condition in his own reading, 257-75:

49. (Q) Advise me how to aid my mother to live many years in health and happiness. (A) Keep those suggestions, and aiding in bringing about those things that prevent the worriment of those conditions that cause this unrest or distress to the body. These may be done best by the little courtesies and considerations as may be shown in the various ways and manners.

50. (Q) Does body need Radium treatment for breast condition? (A) We do not find so. Too severe would be in the present. The increase in the ash, with those of the ultra-violet, taken properly, has stayed the conditions

• and is the best elements for staying same.

51. (Q) To what should the dose be increased, or in what manner? (A) Heavier dose just before that of the treatment given.

52. (Q) Has condition of breast progressed to detriment of body? (A) It’s always been a detriment, to be sure, but the progress has been very slow, and only when there were worriments, or the breaking down of tissue by the lack of keeping the proper precautions, has there been detrimental advancement of the condition.

53. (Q) What will stop her cough? (A) That that will remove the pressure. That will remove the pressure by those treatments and those active forces in the system as related to same, as has been outlined for the body.

54. (Q) What tonic is best for body? (A) This has been given.

55. (Q) Can the condition of the breast be permanently stopped? (A) This has been given so often, that these should be open to those considering same. It is progressive in its nature, as it is tumorous in its activity. Unless there can be that which would destroy the tissue itself - See?

56. (Q) Should body travel at all? (A) When it so desires, it may.

57. (Q) Would a visit with [[459], her daughter] be helpful? (A) If it so chooses.

R3. 10/20/31 Mrs. [325]‘s letter: “I am up and out again, and I want to thank you for your help. I had a very bad cold and then by the time each one of my children brought in their little bedtime story I got worn out, but I really have been feeling better and stronger than I have felt for past two years, since [4159]‘s tragedy. The readings always help to straighten out my children as to their duties. I have lovely children, God bless them, but one must learn to know the strangers coming in the family and I have such little strength to cope with all of them. But I am not going to worry about them any more. God willing, I am going to try and keep up my own strength. I think that I am the only one who really understands your readings thoroughly, around here. I wish we could discuss the work more together.”

R4. 10/23/31 EC’s letter to Mother [325]: “Yours of the 20th just to hand. It is such letters as yours, Mother [325], that just makes life worth while. With all the troubles and trials, and disappointments that come, if we really know or feel that we are being of some service to someone, then it’s worth carrying on. Without it, it isn’t worth it - isn’t worth the struggle, I don’t believe.

“Certainly glad to know you are feeling so much better, and I hope you will continue to do so.

“What did you think of [460]‘s reading [460-4]? I wish she had been present. I’ve always felt it would be better if [460] could be present and ask direct questions.

“Yes, I do wish we could talk over the situations and the work in general. I know you have been the mainstay, and I feel a great deal more than I have ever been able to express to you, how much you have meant to me in carrying on for others; for it IS for others, not for myself - but if I can bring one little ray of hope, can assist in some manner in relieving one hour of suffering, then it is indeed worthwhile.

“No, you shouldn’t ever allow things around you to worry you. That’s nice for all of us to say, and so few of us that can help it! but you have a very wonderful family - they are all different - they all have their own problems, yet I feel very sure that the world will be better for them having lived in it. If it isn’t, we haven’t done God’s service. He will hear us when we cry, but He wants to hear us also when we praise.

“I don’t know just when we will be there [N.Y.] possibly some time in the next few days, possibly some weeks yet - but there’s been a discussion about it - no doubt [257] will tell you.

“Let us hear from you whenever you can. We are all fairly well here. Physically, I think I’m enjoying better health than I have EVER in my whole life since I can remember, and I am glad and happy to be alive, so long as God may use me to be of some service in some way to my fellow man.

“Remember me to all, and with love from all, I am ever the same,” [Edgar Cayce]

R5. 11/23/31 EC’s letter: “We are home again, and after a few days of the reaction [from the arrest in New York] that I suppose generally comes from being under such a strain, we are feeling fairly well except colds. My father has a very bad cold, but is feeling some better this morning.

“Mother [325], we just want to thank you for your kind words and your moral support, and prayers - that were so helpful and encouraging to us through the recent unpleasantness. We recognize that persecutions came to the prophets of old. Each and everyone had their sorrows or crosses to bear. We hope that we may be able to show forth in our lives at all times that it is God’s love we are trying to manifest before our fellow man. No exaltation of our own selves, but rather His grace, His mercy, that endureth forever. May those who have been misguided, misled, or who have wantonly tried to turn public opinion against us in any way, have HIS mercies. May the vengeance be in God’s hands, not ours!

“I certainly am hoping that you are feeling real good. I know that you rejoice with us that the case was dismissed on the merits; though the press attempts to say it was on a technicality, I hope we will be able to clarify this in some way very soon.

“Let us hear from you. Know how we all appreciate you. With love to you and yours, I am Always the same,” [Edgar Cayce]

P.S. by GD “The elephant arrived safely and is now sitting on Judge’s desk. It certainly adds a bright touch of color to our office. Please give my love to [460] and [563].

“Yesterday we had a reading on the work [254-60], and it told us how we should proceed - that the trouble up there should draw all of us closer together in oneness of purpose for the common good of all. I’ll send you a copy in a few days. Much love, and thanks over and over again for all you did for us while we were there - and for what you continually do through your faith and confidence in us.”

R6. 12/9/31 Letter: “My dear Judge, I hope that you will get your charter written so that each part of your work will be protected, for instance your enemies did not accomplish their purpose this time; next time they might get an M.D. to state that you were giving prescriptions without a doctor or license. You would not get out of it so easily, so be careful. [GD’s note: See 254-89 given 1/13/36 in re EC’s arrest in Detroit in November 1935 for practicing medicine without a license. This was after Mother [325] had died on 10/17/35.]

“I am very well as long as I take care of my health and some day, which I hope to be soon, and I am all well, I will tell just what the work of Edgar Cayce did for me, but when I tell it, it will be truth, every word, so pray for my continued good health, as we must have proof for all that we accomplish on this earth. When I do the saying, all will take notice and the doctors will be surprised and even you will, so I hope and pray the time will be soon for your work and for my health, but my health is not quite ready to talk about it yet, but soon it will be. As I said to you here in New York, if the work is with you and true, you won’t have any difficulty in proving it, and so it was, and so it is with me. I hope to tell what the work did for me…

“I think the sixth question [in 254-60] was answered in reading just as it is. Also Gladys’ dream [Par. 14-A] was only too true, as an explosion did happen and how. It blew us all up in the air. Thanks to God no one was hurt.”

R7. 12/15/31 EC’s letter: “We were indeed very glad to hear from you. Yes, we were all glad to be home, and are gradually getting over our sordid experience. Time alone will wholly clarify such conditions for many. Just how or why information concerning us should be so worthwhile to newspapers, is a thing I haven’t been able to quite figure out. I know we are not noted people, but we are actually hearing that little newspapers over the country are still carrying articles that we are in jail - when for weeks we have been home and trying to go on with our work. Somehow, some way or another, it will all work out for the best.

“May the day soon come when you WILL be real well and strong. Not that you may tell the world for us, but for your own self, that ‘whereas I was given a few days by one of the best specialists, THROUGH the sources I was able to be made well and strong, and know it is by His might’; for did He not say, ‘Who heals all thine afflictions?’ and again, ‘I will lift up mine eyes to the hills from whence cometh my salvation.’

“For a few days I have been quite ill myself. For a time it appeared it would be rather serious, but I am glad to say that I am up and feeling fairly well today. Praises to His name!

“Yes, we must protect every phase of the Association’s work, and this we hope to be able to do just as fast as possible.”

R8. 1/12/32 EC’s letter: “Mother [325], have you ever heard the Goldberg’s on the radio? It’s an advertising feature of Pepsodent, I believe. It is a mother having some trials with her two young ones that she has brought up. Though she is having a time getting her English straight, her philosophy reminds me so often of you that I really enjoy it every evening. I hope that if you do listen to it you will strike one of the evenings when you will see just what I mean.”

R9. 1/28/32 “I have been over to see [Daughter [459]] and she is having quite a time getting herself established. I am feeling as well as can be expected under the strain of helping her. [Son [257]] has been so terribly strained himself and I feel so sorry for him, as he must begin all over again. Well, as I pray every day for your success and that someone will come in again and help you to solve your problems, I was sitting and thinking of you and your work, and saying I must write to the Judge and tell him to keep himself in good humor so that the good forces will be with him. That was on Friday. The telephone rang and I answered it. [Son [257]] was on the phone telling me that he was taking a man down to the Beach that would mean something to the work [Mr. [437]], so I prayed again and am happy to hear that he made you happy, so keep well and of good cheer.”

R10. 1/28/32 Son [257]‘s letter: “Judge, I am terribly worried for mother. She touches her side every now and then and it frightens me to death. Please see what can be suggested so she’ll not be forced to allow this condition to develop. She has meant so much to you and we must keep her here to enjoy with us the things she is making and has helped us make. She never forgets you and I feel she is so necessary as background to the work and to you. She seems to be able to convince anyone of your honesty, sincerity and ability, so I know as always you will do what you can.”
